rubikdarkwill: Because I remember you working out your layout, then trying to flip it over and spilling all the buttons out

Master_Gunner: oh, you can definitely get round keycaps that fit mx stems
Master_Gunner: cherry keycaps are sometimes used as buttons in all kinds of odd places

rubikdarkwill: You were working on the button box after replacing the wheel on February 18
DandyGeek: There might be some fun options in Suzo Happ's collection of pushbuttons, too
Arclight_Dynamo: @rubikdarkwill Any idea why he soldered the buttons?
TemporallyAwry: Excessive amounts of brass, for some reason.
SnackPak_: I still need to do the bolt mod on my model M
Master_Gunner: unicomp did inherit the original IBM molds, but... those are *very* old molds now.
rubikdarkwill: @Arclight_Dynamo The soldering must have been done after that stream. It is all spade terminals in the stream
TemporallyAwry: Ah, the original Thock
Arclight_Dynamo: @rubikdarkwill Rats. That does support Ian's theory that it was a later attempt to correct jitter, though.
Master_Gunner: the solinoid was to make them sound more like typewriters

serramarkov: As long as everyone was ok...
Arclight_Dynamo: In undergrad, I had a twice-weekly lecture, in a basement lecture hall, while they were blasting bedrock a block away. Not only did that mean the sound was transmitted by rock directly into our class, it also meant we didn't hear the warning horns. So, out of nowhere, huge explosion and shaking, at least three times a week. Wasn't great.
AllTheWeasels: This reminds me of a similar story from a mine near my home. SOMEONE spaced two scheduled blasts too close to one another, and they cascaded
JadedCynic: ah! That's just the construction crew getting rid of the leftover ordinance - if they have leftover explosives, they have to keep watch over it, and the budget people expects it to be kept at the construction company's offices, and lots of explosive compositions are 'perishable' and won't 'keep' like a year for the next 'building season' and become even more hazardous...
JadedCynic: usually that's done in 'safe' controlled loctions like a quarry
Arclight_Dynamo: The most "famous" explosion in my city is when the sewer system exploded in 1929. No one knows why... but it may be related to the fact that people apparently used to use gasoline (!) to clean clothes. I suspect that also has something to do with "spontaneous human combustion." Which you don't really hear about any more.
LadyLockwood92: This button did not survive the carbon freezing process.
Arclight_Dynamo: Friction-fit in the button, I suppose.
fiinnnaaaaannnnnnnn: hello everyone
jubale1: what’s a thrustmaster?
fiinnnaaaaannnnnnnn: driving sim wheel manufacturer
Arclight_Dynamo: @jubale1 A brandname for periferals, like joysticks and wheels.
Arclight_Dynamo: Lesson: Buy better buttons for future projects.
jubale1: where is the wheel
Arclight_Dynamo: On the floor at the moment.
JadedCynic: I'm reminded of when our school boards were still parochial (run by the various sects of churches), and when things got amalgamated into one consolidated school board run (and not just funded) by the government, they closed down 'extra' schools...and the local police were called to clear out chemistry can see where this is going...
jubale1: breaking bad?
mumonscomment: has anyone tried the model building in last call bbs?
fiinnnaaaaannnnnnnn: breaking things correctly or in the right order is a skill onto itself
Arclight_Dynamo: On the subject of TTSF mottos, may I suggest "Ever Forward, Learning Through Spite" rather than "Out of Spite"? The syllables scan better when compared with "Never Learning."
JadedCynic: no one hurt, but the police budget had a line entry for 'emergency dry cleaning'
JadedCynic: @Arclight_Dynamo I like the suggestion; it does flow better
jubale1: like my chem teacher’s story of somebody who stole sodium metal and went north to throw it in a lake. apparently killed a ton of fish
gualdhar: beep beep
ANeMzero: Zachtronics: The Creator of Minecraft
LurkerSpine: last call bbs, the one with the gunpla
Arclight_Dynamo: The best BBS-related game I ever played was "Digital: A Love Story."
JadedCynic: @ANeMzero I...what?
Fruan: Last Call just came out of early access too. Zactronic's version of early access was "We're not confident we found all the bugs, so we're not going to lie to you", anyway.
patbaer: The "story" behind it is the programmer couldn't import the kits so they created a simulator
LordZarano: And you can paint them
ANeMzero: @JadedCynic Zachary Barth made Infiniminer which is what Mojang cribbed the primary mechanics of minecraft from
Arclight_Dynamo: @JadedCynic They made Infiniminer, which He Who Must Not Be Named stole the Minecraft concept from.
JadedCynic: The "premise" if you will
patbaer: Last Call BBS is on PC gamepass (and other places as well)
Chesul: Opus Magnum was my favorite.
LordZarano: I'd say that one is more picross like than minesweeper like
Fruan: Forbidden Pass gave me Tetris dreams made of meat, which was something.
ANeMzero: Also less fun fact is Zach Barth was a coffee guy at Microsoft and in the room as they were talking about paying billions for Minecraft :|
Fruan: Forbbiden Path, I mean.
jubale1: Gurran Laggan
SnackPak_: @ANeMzero woof
GhostValv: moving on is better than being unable to continue
patbaer: Zach went into teaching but... maybe will be getting back into games

nyquister_: The innovation the Beef / Diary industry need to combat climate change and alternative meats LUL
jubale1: raw steak makes a reasonable resistor, depending on thickness
Mollylele: @fiinnnaaaaannnnnnnn it's concern of non-food particulate from previous laser jobs getting into food
fiinnnaaaaannnnnnnn: @Mollylele yeah that tracks, interesting all the same.
ANeMzero: I imagine it's a bit like how you wouldn't want to make a milkshake in the Will it Blend blender
rubikdarkwill: The button layout of the box, with green already removed:
SnackPak_: lrrWOW
jubale1: hm, is this a new job for TTSF?
laundreydhull: why Bow-huh?
ANeMzero: The gamecube did have the X button on the X axis
DapperKoala2: I assume Nintendo wanted to create a layout that prevents you from being able to switch to another console so that you're stuck with their controllers and, thusly, their consoles.
fiinnnaaaaannnnnnnn: was that a big concern in the snes days?
LurkerSpine: Nah, nintendo has done right to left its entire existence
Fruan: The great thing about the yes/no thing is that if you don't know about it it's invisible and painless.
nyquister_: *3, 4, or 5 playstations

djsombrero: does games workshop make video games?
Texan_Reverend: Ian, I really like the button mounting plate you printed up for the wheel. It's looking sharp.
MTGRanger: @djsombrero no, but they do give out the license
jubale1: does this show ever do printing? i haven’t seen that happen
Juliamon: 3D printing doesn't really lend itself to a 3-hour show format
fiinnnaaaaannnnnnnn: isnt there a kb switch that is a 4 axis faux-dpad ?
rubikdarkwill: It is up
fiinnnaaaaannnnnnnn: ive seen it on those split kb
djsombrero: I would like to see you play I am Bread with that. Haha
Texan_Reverend: Speaking of 3d printing, Ian do you have any interest in resin printing?
ANeMzero: It is very Nintendo to have like a big addon thing that just kind of fizzles out
Arclight_Dynamo: You mean Nintendo build a weird gimmick, then dropped it without any further development? *Nintendo*? I don't believe it!
Arclight_Dynamo: *built
TheMerricat: Labo is proof that someone from Valve snuck into Nintendo's development team. A super cool idea, only one release, never supported after that.
nyquister_: Same thing happened with the original Wii-motes and making interactive whiteboards etc. My Dad mucked around with it for his classes
ANeMzero: Also like.. what actually uses the IR camera on the joycon outside of labo?
nyquister_: Same --> Similar
djsombrero: Anyone here have Donkey Konga with the drums?
Mollylele: UM isn't there a game where you have to eat a sandwich and stick the IR in your mouth? or did I make that up?
ANeMzero: Having a wiimote style camera on the bottom of the controller was maybe not the best choice.

Arclight_Dynamo: Superman sweats like water cutter jets.
ANeMzero: Superman has the ability to freeze stuff with his breath so I assume he is just generally capable of regulating his body temperature in a way that keeps him from sweating.
TheMerricat: "Superman's costume was made by Martha Kent from ordinary Terran fabric. Superman's body is charged with a bio-electric "aura" that acts as an invisible "force field" radiating within a few millimeters from his skin. Of this way, very tight clothes becomes almost invulnerable in contact with Superman's aura."
