BraveOthello: (to be clear I didn't actually expect that to be a command)
QuixoticScrivener: @LoadingReadyRun I think twitch just needed a reload, it updated the stream title as well.

LadyAiluros: you need a USB microscope
Juliamon: globb it up

Anubis169: LadyAiluros: I got a soldering microscope for christmas, 20x magnification at 9 inches. I've been doing so much microsoldering <3

Anubis169: nice wide base, can't knock it over
QuixoticScrivener: @haberley How confident are you of that? [Slams a Voight-Kampff test on the table.]
haberley: @QuixoticScrivener oh, decreasingly by the day
LordZarano: @Anubis169 Honestly I wonder if that's why they chose them for set dressing Trek

CaptinOfBeez: does it look like the pads got ripped up?
BraveOthello: The rarely used *what*?

RandomTrivia: The bigger of the two small ones :D
CaptinOfBeez: does usb mini have OTG?
CrossXhunteR: i don't know the last time ive seen a usb-b mini connector
DoodlestheGreat: Why, we have three PS 3s...
Anubis169: I like Mini over Micro, simple because it doesn't break as often
Juliamon: There didn't seem to be any reason why a product would use one over the other
RatherLargeToad: sadly, the USB Mega never took off
kekuha: how difficult is it to replace the usb cable on an old gaming keyboard? i have an old razer nostromo that needs love
Anubis169: by the way, whomever decided to use MicroUSB in a 6-axis motion controller deserves a slap
LoadingReadyRun: six slaps, one for each axis
LordZarano: @RatherLargeToad USB Type-B 3.0?
Anubis169: hehehe
kekuha: @anubis169 because the cable falls out?
Juliamon: motherboards startle easily
Anubis169: kekuha: because MicroUSB bends back and forth so easy, the cable and the port header breaks
Anubis169: it does the thing where you bend a wire hanger back and forth until it snaps
kekuha: hence why they fall out
CrossXhunteR: the cool q-tips?
kekuha: agreed it was a bad choice @anubis169
LordZarano: Good ol' metal fatigue
Anubis169: funnily enough they don't fall out, mainly due to the two teeth. They just stay in broken.
kekuha: yikes
RandomTrivia: "something squishy to rub against", one of the three fundamental human desires - alongside "chicken tendies" and "satellite cable"
CrossXhunteR: i had a zune when i was much younger, and definitely broke the charging port in that thing one time by not properly unlocking the teeth of the connector when i went to disconnect the charge cable
kekuha: and reciprocated high fives @randomtrivia
Anubis169: 400c?

wedge_x: having spent the last 29 years around digital artists and wacoms, I can confirm that they're generally here for a good time, not a long time
CaptinOfBeez: hold the tip on the pad to heat it and feed solder into the joint so it can flow better
Anubis169: flux please
LordZarano: 500C would be literally red hot, 's about when things start glowing
CaptinOfBeez: most of my tips dont recommend going over 400C
Juliamon: more like a Costco soup container
RandomTrivia: Paul, that was a very long-winded way of saying "Skill issue" :D
kekuha: any secret tech for soldering indoors in an apartment?
Juliamon: those things DO NOT peel open
CaptinOfBeez: there are desktop air scrubbers you can use
Challis2070: it doesn't go moldy, but it sounds like it might dry out?
TheAwkes: If it's anything like sour cream, it gets opened, you use half of it, then you don't look at it again until it's months past it's BB in the back of the fridge.
kekuha: air scrubbers?
CaptinOfBeez: yea it sucks in the fumes from the soldering and captures particles in a filter
CaptinOfBeez: if you cant get a fume hood over your station
Anubis169: good angle
Juliamon: TheAwkes glad to know this is a universal truth
Anubis169: uh oh
CaptinOfBeez: good flow though lol

TheAwkes: I've got a Pinecil on the desk in front of me right now.
LordZarano: Test if a plug still fits with the ooze?
CaptinOfBeez: 400 will be more than enough for those small pins
confracto: I'm late, what's happening with this tablet?
Juliamon: MiniUSB port fell out
TheAwkes: The front (USB socket) fell off.
confracto: thanks, I was about to also make a front fell of joke.
LordZarano: "What standard are these things built to?"
confracto: apparently not a good one, as I'm realizing my intuos3 doesn't even have a disconnectable connection here
confracto: "well, cardboard's out"
TheAwkes: I've got a base station iron that can pull 85W, and my pinecil with the right power supply does plenty more than that.
Juliamon: it's a design flaw in the Intuos 4 specifically
QuixoticScrivener: @LordZarano "We put UL on the label, but aren't in the US."
Juliamon: and well-documented
confracto: oh, good to know. I've been using my 3 daily since 2007, and I'm terrified of the day it goes
Anubis169: see: the x86 instructionset
LoadingReadyRun: @confracto all three? that's a big drawing surface! :p
confracto: no, just an intuos 3, but it's an ultrawide one (originally used for a pair of 4:3 monitors), and I have a same generation cintiq as well now, and they use the same pen
MWGNZ: now everything is a 5v rail!
Cptasparagus: is that like when the smoke came from inside the drill?
betweenmyself: The call is coming from inside the soldering iron! riffGasp
LordZarano: If just the data pins are shorted that'll make it charge only
CaptinOfBeez: do you have solder braid to remove the extra?

Juliamon: they got the mugs a few Desert Buses ago for a Night Watch bit
Juliamon: and it turns out they're good mugs bront
CrossXhunteR: my friend recently got the tiny Trek tea cups, and it tickled me seeing both the raktajino mug and those tea cups in last week's Friday Nights
moist_but_crunchy: Those blues ones must be hard to tip over
Ian Weaver: Can I get off work early this time... Who knows?
Juliamon: they're literally designed for that
CaptinOfBeez: depending on the connected device, usb can have pull up resistors to 5V
sparkywondersnail: They used to make car cups in the blue mug shape, did not work so good in car, works great as a non-spill mug almost anywhere else

spawnofhastur: I'd like to try soldering because I'd love to build a tube amp. I'm just worried about it, you know, killing me.
Juliamon: It's less likely to kill you and more likely to just give you mild burns
Juliamon: but mild burns do suck
Cptasparagus: as long as you dont inhale the solder smoke :P
Juliamon: That's not that difficult
betweenmyself: Just Ian asserting dominance over his gloves.
Juliamon: I feel like you would need to deliberately inhale the amount of solder smoke that would cause harm
Juliamon: *immediate harm
Juliamon: (let's be real, everything we inhale is killing us)
MWGNZ: especially oxygen
Juliamon: we're all rusting
Bobtheninjagoldfish: The soudn of Solder is a "Sound of silence " cover waiting to happen
betweenmyself: gotta make sure them lungs build up a lovely patina
DrakoniteDev: oh hai
DrakoniteDev was doing a working and missed everything
DrakoniteDev: smoke from lead-free solder is quite toxic, due to the harsh chemicals in the flux needed for lead-free. smoke from leaded solder is generally just mildly bad, as long as you limit exposure and don't lick your fingers
DrakoniteDev is very late to the discussion
Awaiko: Good afternoon chat, I hope y'all are well today.
DrakoniteDev: ooo, are those fancy probemasters new?
DrakoniteDev: (they look like probemasters, at least)
DrakoniteDev: lead solder is much better
SquareDotCube: it's the leading brand!
wedge_x: I was born in the early 70's, I can hold *so much lead*
DrakoniteDev: the only real issue with leaded solder is environmental contamination from e-waste, but there are claims the harsh chemicals needed for leadfree might cause just as much environmental harm
DrakoniteDev: @wedge_x is that when everyone was provided copious free lead from the automotive industry?
MWGNZ: enhance!
7gorobei: where is the endoscope? i demand worm eye view
DrakoniteDev: what is it we're fixing?

MWGNZ: if this fails do we try upgrading it to micro usb?
wedge_x: @DrakoniteDev around the peak, yeah
DrakoniteDev: do we know if the cable is power only?
LoadingReadyRun: the cable also sends the tablet data to the computer
DrakoniteDev: ah
DrakoniteDev: is this 5 pin mini usb?
DrakoniteDev: the outside most are +V and GND
DrakoniteDev: some devices use D+/D- to negotiate power draw, but that wacon tablet probably doesn't need to

Bobtheninjagoldfish: as someone who helps organize a speedrunning marathon, I can confirm Speedrunners are not worried about it. There is however a speed run That Places a NES on a hotplate and heat it to 50 degrees to run Dragon Warrior III to increase the chance of a glitch so that the hour or more speed run can be done in close to 22 minutes.
MalFnord: That seems like a great way to covert working NESes into ewaste, ngl
