LRRbot: Next scheduled stream: Talking Sim (Cameron and Cori take a deeper look at the world of video games. Game: Squeakross: Home Squeak Home) at Thu 01:00 PM PDT (4m from now).
Seagulyus: oooh the Rat picross game
Juliamon:

TXC2: Hello Everybody
Seagulyus: this one did look interesting, glad to get to hear Cameron and Cori play it first
TXC2: CONTACT
GreatWahooney: hello chat! hope everyone's having a nice day
GreatWahooney: literally solving nonograms on paper while waiting for the stream
LeeshaJoy: I've played the demo for this, it's adorable
Territan: Eating french fries dipped in 50% ketchup, 50% lao gan ma chili crisp. No ragerts.
hyalopterous:
howdy chat

TXC2: hello GreatWahooney and hyalopterous welcome
alchemistsavant: Afternoon, friends!
TXC2: hello alchemistsavant welcome
spethycakes: hey y'all!
TXC2: hello spethycakes welcome
TehAmelie: shalom
TXC2: Here we GO!
TXC2: Hello Cori and Cameron
TheAinMAP:
Hello

spethycakes: I'm betting "swirl it"
TehAmelie: i wanna try it, with whatever chili flakes are available
Territan: Nope, the ketchup and chili crisp are together in one bowl. They are blended.
e_bloc: separate, one sauce on each end
KaleidoscopeMind: beat them together like an egg?
spethycakes: chili crisp is unbeatable
ThorSokar: no, you mix, nice swirl like a vanilla/chocolate swirl soft-serve ice cream cone
Territan: It's not mine to give. But if I could, *I'D* take that sponsorship!
KaleidoscopeMind: but current cameron will enjoy every moment
spethycakes: hear me out: scallion pancake quesadillas with chili crisp (you use a scallion pancake instead of the tortilla)
TXC2: a problem for Cameron's colon to deal with
alchemistsavant: That sounds incredibly satisfying to watch.
TehAmelie: mouth making problems for the butt to deal with, that's just the way of the world
DoodlestheGreat: ET foam home.
Juliamon: chanting O-VER-FLOW! O-VER-FLOW!
e_bloc: implies you are still alive
TehAmelie: i remember a video compilation of deep fried turkeys made by the fire department
DoodlestheGreat: And do it inside their garage or on a wooden patio.
TXC2: I'd argue war is a fail yes
Territan: Also, and this was a wonderful discovery: A 24-ounce jar of Lao Gan Ma isn't the burden anyone might think it is. Good stuff!
GhostValv:

e_bloc: yeah im that old
spethycakes: I make the scallion panquesadillas often at home and it's always good
ArdCollider: I have learned that we have a taco joint in Koreatown called K Pasa and it has short rib vampiros.
ArdCollider: (vampiros are sort of like the TB Mexican pizza but smaller and better)
SquareDotCube: if you make the scallion big enough does it become a wrapscallion?
chaos5896: Sounds like a tinker time with Ian idea
TXC2: !patreon
spethycakes: bonus points if you add kimchi
WiJohn: Flavor town if you will
TXC2: seamless segue Cori
ArdCollider: ooo
Azralorne: Sell out hard for the little red jar is such a good line though 🤣💜
Gekyouryuu: Cori, dumb thought I need to get out of my head: I wish tokusatsu were more popular with celebrities. That way more people would request having sundays free to watch kids shows from Japan in their contracts as a common rider.
KaleidoscopeMind: it's just there
KaleidoscopeMind: propagating
ArdCollider: Ian helped me pick up a *bunch* of KD to send to my Canadian expat bestie.
e_bloc: Talking Simulator, brought to you by Lao Gan Ma
BraveOthello: Saw the Twitch notification text and went "Oh it must be Talking Sim time"

Invitare: in a tomato sauce
ArdCollider: baked beans, hot dogs, bit of brown sugar and mustard == new england kid food
Invitare: it's a British delicacy. Don't tell anyone that I don't like it though
BraveOthello: You know what Wheeler would have to say about all this bean talk ...
Invitare: I'll have my British license revoked
e_bloc: i love beans so much
Juliamon: ArdCollider Swap maple syrup for the brown sugar if your family can afford it
BrynnStarr: You're Canadian. You folks are always pretending to be British or French.
spethycakes: beans on toast: it's a gas
DoodlestheGreat: I have instant ramen for that.
e_bloc: yeah I choose contactless delivery even when I'm in my office, 5 feet from my door
TXC2: spethycakes it's what powers students
Azralorne: Cacio de Pepe is hard to make properly
wordnerdify: Good afternoon Cam and Cori, greetings chat

BraveOthello: Fair
Omnipotrevor: Just, like, at least 1 vegetable
e_bloc: its a meal and an accomplishment
Azralorne: Mmmmmmmm now I want pasta lol
TehAmelie: i can't deal with all these flavors when i'm already up to my neck in delicious tacos with some expertly prepared and seasoned ground meat
BraveOthello: Oh I was just gonna eat it frozen
TheAwkes: I'
DoodlestheGreat: Thank goodness I'm making lunch as we discuss this, lest I start gnawing on my keyboard like a hamster on amphetimines.
Azralorne: While it's still frozen?
LeeshaJoy: I never don't want pasta
KaleidoscopeMind: i have purchased broccoli and frozen it to save it myself
hyalopterous: frozen peas are for injuries
RedtheLily subscribed with Prime. They've subscribed for 50 months!

e_bloc: frozen fruit is good in a smoothie
BraveOthello: Frozen peas and grapes are incredible snacks
Azralorne: Frozen grapes are amazing
TheAwkes: I'm due to make a half-assed bacon carbonara for breakfast again soon.
RedtheLily: Big Fiddy!
TehAmelie: cool your wine with grapes!
Azralorne: Especially when I can get my hands on the cotton candy grapes 😂
BraveOthello: Frozen green beans are high on my list too
e_bloc: do not want inner beej
Greendrag13: Howldy! I heard there might be simple puzzles with fuzzy little guys here!
raulghoulia: millions of peaches?
SquareDotCube: "you ever beat a mean unconscious with a bag of misshapen apples"
e_bloc: the season to can them
TXC2: hello Greendrag13 welcome
Azralorne: A pizza place in Seattle has a seasonal pizza with peaches on it, it's so good
ArdCollider: the fruit riot grapes are amazing but also probably unhealthy
Bugberry: I'm trying to have fruit more often, but I keep forgetting about it and it gets mold.
ArdCollider: they have sour candy on them
RedtheLily: my dad swears up and down peach on pizza
LeeshaJoy: gdi, I had lunch like an hour ago and you're making me hungry again
richard_ermen: Playing videogames for a living must be weird with some games. Like, imagine if you're playing the "Waiting for Godot" of Videogames. That would be a strange thing to have fun with, wouldn't it?
KaleidoscopeMind: web and phone apps too, mostly for killing time at airports
e_bloc: somewhere, Heather broke out in a cold sweat
Azralorne: I have played some really bad nonogram games and this one is *so good*
TehAmelie: Picross originated as a way to sell SNES's mouse peripheral didn't it
Gekyouryuu: Cori, I saw a picross once in the shape of Alien Baltan from Ultraman
TXC2: yeah I assume it's pee-cross
LRRbot:
If you see something funny or particularly noteworthy, make a Clip of it! Your clip could appear in a fortnightly video or be seen at https://www.twitch.tv/loadingreadyrun/clips (Please give your clips descriptive names if you want them to be seen!)
TehAmelie: maybe i'm thinking of something else
Gekyouryuu: Yes!
Territan: There's another game to look for in the Nintendo nonogram space: "Murder by Numbers."
RockPusher: Those with the KDE games have Picmi to scratch their picross itch
LeeshaJoy: they still make Picross games for the Switch
richard_ermen: Does thsi mean Ultraman gets the GoT trweatment soon?
Gekyouryuu: Also, I'm assuming Pic-cross because it's a picture made via crossword-esque grid

GreatWahooney: nonogram video games are great and all but I'm personally a huge fan of pencil and paper
richard_ermen: "Zenlike games." If the next screen is heavy death metal I'm gonna burst out laugfhing
TXC2: most things are less fun if there is a timer
TXC2:
legally I am a home owner for the next 5 days
alchemistsavant: RODENT EDITOR might be the best menu title i've seen in a video game.
LeeshaJoy: Puzzles with timers should be banned, I s2g
richard_ermen: Is standardized housing bad? I thought that's a normal thing??
Sarah_Serinde: Wish the liberals would try harder
e_bloc: there are like the models in my old neighborhood
e_bloc: *three
Juliamon: Imagine, having "options"
RockPusher: You know, back when the state made houses for people
richard_ermen: This sounds like a fake controversy?
TehAmelie: i wish Sears kept doing mail order houses
TheManaLeek: I live in a town house, all of my neighbours are in the same house as me!
TehAmelie: not that i could afford even one of them
richard_ermen: I want a medieval tower
ZestyFungus: Omg same here about the spiral staircase.
RedtheLily: i dream of a loft
TXC2: "standardised housing? that's communism!" "yeah, the good part of communism!"
Juliamon: I don't care much about spiral staircases, but lofts are where it's AT
e_bloc: I'm sold
TehAmelie: imagine, bringing DOWN the cost of livings. what will the scary liberals that live in the tories' minds think of next
e_bloc: french for st. croix
TXC2:
TehAmelie doing things to help the homeless or disabled?
richard_ermen: "You can try to throw your brother off of it"....is a mezzanine secretly a kinslayer-equipment?
Territan: A ferret??
Juliamon: omg we boggle

SquareDotCube: looking a little long in the tooth
LeeshaJoy: our mouse, in the middle of our street
DoodlestheGreat: That mouse should see a dentist.
Gekyouryuu: Oh, apologies, Cori, I was wrong. It wasn't Alien Baltan I saw, it was Zetton
Bugberry: the biggest peets.
TehAmelie: the blue eyes make it look like a movie monster
richard_ermen: Scratch?
Redbassist: Scrat
GreatWahooney: none rat left feet?
TehAmelie: power stance mouse!
TXC2: Scrat, that was it
drrek0: Sid the Sloth
raulghoulia: john leguizamo
e_bloc: getting a little scrotal at the bottom there
richard_ermen: Thid the Thloth?
mrjujubeans: sid
Bugberry: on the level of Bugs Bunny
richard_ermen: I've been told future generations always revalue old stuff. they're doing it with the star wars prequels rightn ow
TXC2: in 100 years, Sheak will be the beloved cartoon
Seagulyus: this rodent is an absolute unit
BrindleBoar: kangaroo-looking rat
richard_ermen: Clearly, the future will look at us as the Jersey Shore era.
raulghoulia: Violator from Spawn has had a long and varied career
TehAmelie: wait, Coissant?
TXC2:
richard_ermen yeah, turns out 10 year olds like the movie made for 10 year olds
e_bloc: I dig this already
LeeshaJoy: @TXC2 And people will insist that it contains no pop culture references, unlike inferior "modern" kid's movies
TheAwkes: TIL I've done a bunch of nonograms before and I"m pretty okay at them, but had no idea that they were nonograms.
richard_ermen: @TXC2 See? The brainrot has already begun! 20 years from now we'll have 7-hour-video-essays about how the Minecraft movie was secretly a post-post-modernist masterpiece.
TheAinMAP:

RandomTrivia:
Hi friends!
TXC2: hello RandomTrivia welcome
e_bloc: I think this is the first time I've seen a non-Heather person play one of these games
TXC2: LeeshaJoy exactly
Seagulyus: @TheAwkes yeah Picross is actually the trademark of nintendo IIRC. Nonograms is the official name for them
TXC2:
richard_ermen I think we get those now
Seagulyus: yeah so 2 2 would mean "there is a 2, a space, then a 2
KaleidoscopeMind: 1 (at least 1 blank) 1 more
richard_ermen: I think its because we're in the wrong pants leg of history somehow.
Seagulyus: 3 1 means 3 filled, 1 space, 1 filled
TheAwkes: @Seagulyus I ain't never done a Picross, though. Just have had them presented as an unnamed puzzle.
raulghoulia: i have a game like this on my phone. they're going to ask you in a bit for 5 dollars so that you won't get any ads
Bruceski: I guess I can follow that... dangit.
Seagulyus: @TheAwkes *nod nod*
richard_ermen: Cori, natural cheese master?
KaleidoscopeMind: we transmuting this cheese into a chair!
TehAmelie: hey it's like sculpting Minecraft recipes with cheese
TehAmelie: we have a chair, but no bed. . .
RandomTrivia: This game also has a home building element?! SOLD
richard_ermen: As someone who recently had to help moving with a friend....yeah, easy furniture movement is a cool thing xD
e_bloc: hoping for normal fence
TXC2:
TehAmelie I'm now thinking of someone breaking a stone block with a triangle of cheese
alchemistsavant: I love their silly little walk.
Gekyouryuu: Nah, that chair goes dead center of the empty room
richard_ermen: All we need is a mattress, a tv and a ps4 and its like home.
ArdCollider: r/micelivingspaces
TehAmelie: @TXC2 Monty Python riff ensues
Greendrag13: Gotta avoid the copyright ding for Bullet With Butterfly Wings
Bruceski: A game like this definitely has Simple and Clean as background music
LordZarano: One of BDG's first videos for Polygon was about a Picross game
richard_ermen: loooool
SnackPak_:

spethycakes: she's perfect
SkylerRingtail: Taillllll!
richard_ermen: I'm so happy to see that even "wearing nothing" means we get a happy mice ^^
SkylerRingtail: *Ahem* No I'm not biased.
RockPusher: #TeamSqueet
TehAmelie: i'm a sunflower Swede (i wish)
ShaneLeeAtk: Delicious sunflower turnip
SquareDotCube: Home Squeet Home
TXC2: Squeet's back, in pog form
TehAmelie: is it a decorative seed?
RockPusher: If you believed hard enough, squeet never left us
GhostValv:

SnackPak_: salmon hats still in
RealGamerCow: wut
richard_ermen: Are....are people okay?
TXC2: fashion is a mistake
noSmokeFire: orca salmon hats are like wide jeans
RealGamerCow: ohhhhh
RealGamerCow: right
RandomTrivia: Oh the orca... right
richard_ermen: Fascinating
Gekyouryuu: The DS is as old now, when switch 2 comes out, as the NES was when the DS came out
LeeshaJoy: Gen Z orcas wearing salmon hats while they capsize yachts
RealGamerCow: I just thought it was another weird PNW *thing*
ArdCollider: ooh, salmon hat controversy
Redbassist:

Bright5park: First notification: "You made a guess?! You know what happens now..." Second notification: "Motion detected at front door"
TXC2: "oh it's the orca's who are wearing salmon hats, that's fine and normal now" what is this timeline?
richard_ermen: It might feel cheaty, but it still is nice to see that you get some easy once at the start
richard_ermen: Are we moth nowß
TXC2: !box
LRRbot: In the box is: that Squall comic Graham wanted
TehAmelie: now we have a bed!
richard_ermen: Sticker...fur?
KaleidoscopeMind: oh hey lrrbot found it!
Azralorne: Main menu
Azralorne: You can play with stickers there
richard_ermen: Man, boxnard would love this.
Bright5park: That box is a decoy, in case a cat breaks in.
RockPusher: Don't let James near the herringbone
ShaneLeeAtk: Wainscoting
Garfy400: Somewhere Serge just shuddered
RealGamerCow: beadboard wainscotting
alchemistsavant: It's gotta be uhhhh, at least 1 puzzle USD. Maybe 1.5 puzzles Canadian?
Azralorne: Main menu
Azralorne: Cori
Azralorne: Hit esc
Azralorne: There you go! 💜
Azralorne: Yeeeeee isn't it cute?!
alchemistsavant: You stick them *on the UI*? That's so genius for collectables.
alchemistsavant: Someone show Graham that, he'd probably get a kick out of that.
TehAmelie: ooh, it comes with prop books
spethycakes: a pineapple??
JKBalch: Have they got a cheesecake?
RockPusher: nihihi
Azralorne: Some of those puzzles get really big too lol I think some are 25x25?
Seagulyus: @Azralorne largest I have played is 40x40
RealGamerCow: x-2(x-y)
Azralorne: @Seagulyus Oh nice haha
Azralorne: I have played a lot of this game but there's also a lot of it
spethycakes: this really is a great explanation
Azralorne: @Seagulyus Logging that for later >> haha
LeeshaJoy: I'm just happy to see more puzzle games that aren't stuck in microtransaction mobile app hell
Seagulyus: @Azralorne the text is all in English, but the narrator is a Japanese vtuber so no dub just to warn you.
Azralorne: That's fine by me
TehAmelie: and row 2 can have one of the blocks in the middle but not both. . .we may need different marks
Seagulyus: @Azralorne oh right, it is also a Jupiter game (they made all the picross games for Nintendo)
Azralorne: @Seagulyus Ahhhh good to know
TXC2: !time
LRRbot: Current moonbase time: 1:47 PM
Seagulyus: the other thing to do is add up the numbers plus the number of spaces between them. if that adds up to the space, it is an insta fill. 1+8 (+1 space) = 10
Seagulyus: oh also click the center mouse button on a space to mark it
Mr_Horrible: I need to check if this is on eShop
EvilBadman: it is
Mr_Horrible: pog, as the kids say
Mr_Horrible: the cascade of deductions in picross is always such a nice feeling
TehAmelie: this makes me feel smarter just by watching
Sarah_Serinde: I love picross
RatekStormcrow:
I have a few of those games on my phone, they are quite relaxing
TXC2: I can see how this is addictive the way sudoku is
Sarah_Serinde:
This is probably gonna get me to pick one of the Switch ones back up
Mr_Horrible: yeah, the good picross games will have a *ton* of puzzles
Azralorne: @RatekStormcrow Have you tried meow tower?
Azralorne: If not I highly recommend it
Seagulyus: *goes to check meow tower*
Azralorne: Yessss
Seagulyus: wait a new story of seasons came out?!
Sarah_Serinde: my friends like that one but it's not really for me, at least partly because I wasn't that into the easier difficulty level
Sarah_Serinde: it's very cute though
niccus: i suppose there's Logic Bombs for that
Sarah_Serinde: It's always interesting to try and figure out where you messed up
Sarah_Serinde:
Satisfying if you work it out, and if not, you can always restart
KaleidoscopeMind: and now how many deductions followed from the incorrect 8
LoadingReadyRun:
"Nonograms Katana" on iOS is my goto for picross. Thousands of puzzles and lots of QoL features
Sarah_Serinde: great recovery Cameron
KaleidoscopeMind:
!
TXC2: !break
LRRbot: Remember chat, break time for the streamer means break time for YOU, so unclench, get up, stretch, walk about a bit, and maybe refresh your drink, take your meds, or go to the toilet if you need to. Don't forget to wash your hands!
Seagulyus: oh my goodness that is a lot of puzzles
Juliamon: I can't play any picross games other than Katana, they all feel too restrictive and the puzzles don't go large enough
Sarah_Serinde: @LoadingReadyRun Not just on iOS, gonna check out this one then
Sarah_Serinde:
Also hi Paul
JKBalch: Extremely Pleasing Grids would be a good band name
LostThePirate: I looove picross games, what platform(s) is this on?
EvilBadman: Steam and Switch, at least
TXC2: right chat I'm off
TXC2: Goodnight everybody, and thanks for streaming Cori and Cameron
Gekyouryuu: @LostThePirate I at least know it's like $15 on steam iirc
LordZarano: Picross Luna has ruined me for Picross. Each puzzle is a small section of a larger picture, and then those large pictures tell a story
Gekyouryuu: Rad
Seagulyus: @LordZarano oh yeah a couple games do that now. Jupiter does it on their couple games - Grimoire and Pixel Museum both have it
KaleidoscopeMind: ^yeah that one is good. i only stopped because fat fingers on small phone
Sarah_Serinde: @LordZarano Oh this looks pretty
Sarah_Serinde:
I enjoy that I'm learning about a bunch of other Picross games from this stream
BraveOthello: w i d e
SnackPak_:

GreatWahooney: doink doink!
KaleidoscopeMind: horizontal time!
KaleidoscopeMind: CUTE!
silenceaux: Cute!
Azralorne: One of my favorites haha
ThePixelSavage: and we were very cool and steady whilst doing it
ThePixelSavage: thats a pineapple .. you cannot fool me
ThePixelSavage: and that is Cristo Redentor
ThePixelSavage: *taps temple
YFiddler: is that a boggling rat?
KaleidoscopeMind: Cristo Rodentor*
KaleidoscopeMind: oddish!
Invitare: Oddish
Laserbeaks_Fury: Oddish
UraharaSci: oddish!
UraharaSci: or ditto
KaleidoscopeMind: sunkern is on our face
jae_dorian subscribed at Tier 1. They've subscribed for 32 months!
LRRbot:
Thanks for subscribing, jae_dorian! (Today's storm count: 6)
Laserbeaks_Fury: it's 12x10 now
Sarah_Serinde: I can see how this grid size would completely throw off your mental math though
Sarah_Serinde: I'm used to dealing with multiples of 5
mercano82: The vertical thick line is no longer between columns 5 and 6, it's between 6 and 7.
mercano82: That'd really throw me off
KaleidoscopeMind: yeah i'm used to 5x5 dark lines to help count, even if not divisible by 5 (last column/row is smaller)
Seagulyus: you can check by holding C. it shows a count of all the blocks you go over
mercano82: @KaleidoscopeMind Same
Sarah_Serinde: yeah because the initial placement of blocks for that 9 makes perfect sense if the grid is 10 wide
GreatWahooney: I've introduced a whole bunch of people to nonograms over the years and it was always lots of fun to watch them develop their own mental shortcuts
silenceaux: Quite satisfying to watch the blue lights turn off.
Sarah_Serinde: I love it when games give you very customizable hint options too. I like using the coloured numbers but usually I don't want any other hints
Laserbeaks_Fury: I think you did the bottom row wrong
Sarah_Serinde:
though usually I also don't have the game tell me when I placed something wrong, I want to discover that myself
Sarah_Serinde:
yeah that'll happen
SnackPak_: classic nonogrids
Sarah_Serinde: you're learning live on stream, which makes everything harder. You're doing great
GreatWahooney: the subdivisions not being every 5 rows/columns is dirty
Sarah_Serinde: I like not making my mistakes in front of an audience
mercano82: I really hope there's a setting for changing the grid divisions back to divisable-by-5.
GreatWahooney: we can have more than one night stand?
CaptainSpam: I'm not quite sure I like the idea of a picross puzzle of a specific, nonsensical angle of a 3D object.
mercano82: Rebuilding the Sims Moonbase basement
padrerasta: It's.... the angle of a bed you never see!
ArcOfTheConclave: As someone who plays an embarrassing amount of picross it is taking all of my strength to not boackseat.
GreatWahooney: ahh back to the familiar 5x5
LRRbot:
If you see something funny or particularly noteworthy, make a Clip of it! Your clip could appear in a fortnightly video or be seen at https://www.twitch.tv/loadingreadyrun/clips (Please give your clips descriptive names if you want them to be seen!)
CaptainSpam: Funny thing is, I don't believe there's any legitimate in-game reason to microwave the hamster in Maniac Mansion. It's just there because Lucasarts made it an option.
SquareDotCube: happle
RandomTrivia: D'awwww
Gekyouryuu: Rats good, mice bad is my understanding
Dread_Pirate_Westley: Humans don't work right? Why have I not heard that before?
Wrexadecimal: Right where it belongs
silenceaux: I probably would not respond well to seeing a mouse or rat in my home
Sarah_Serinde: I appreciate the spiders in my basement apartment quite a lot. They're also pretty harmless so that helps
mistborn_wit: Well is spiders fault for having too many legs
Invitare: Look, in a war the spiders will side with the insects. You can't trust them
raulghoulia: The Huntsman? Starring Chris Hemsworth?
CaptainSpam: "Into action!" is his cry.
KeytarCat: Basic Long was my nickname in college
EvilBadman: Ah, zero, the little late addition to the numerical symbol chart...
GreatWahooney:
@EvilBadman
Voidhawk42: I just noticed the shading background is cheese
Aarek:

ThePixelSavage: that head must be so sticky with an apple as a hat
Azralorne: if you hold down c the game will count what you highlight
Geisterkarle: think so
mercano82: No, it's one short
Azralorne: yee
Azralorne: do it
Laserbeaks_Fury: adds up to me
Dread_Pirate_Westley: Yes.
Voidhawk42: yup
ThePixelSavage: never be brave and bold in squeakcross
GreatWahooney: ah but consider the 5 2 1
RandomTrivia: No one saw that
KaleidoscopeMind: it does give info tho
MrVirite: This is the kind of game I'm good at in theory, bad at in practice.
GreatWahooney: aww just noticed the "all squeaks reserved"
CrazymattCaptain: I play too many piccross/nonogram games on my phone. Seeing the logic worked out hurts a little, but it also shows me that this game respects the logic of the puzzle and should be praised for that.
Wrexadecimal:
I've been picrossing since I was a small child, and a terrible family vacation is both what made me appreciate and get stupid good at picross. I pleases me seeing the love of this kind of puzzle spreading to others.
ThePixelSavage: "Heresy rips" *cocks boltpistol* ... say that again?
Voidhawk42: "Heresy Rips." - Erebus, about to break everything
Cptasparagus: @Wrexadecimal I was *addicted* to it on the nintendo DS (mostly becuase that why my first touchscreen device). I'm now onto infinite minesweeper though.
LostThePirate: As someone who has completed WAY too many of this type of puzzle, I'm finally in the position to know what it feels like as a skilled gamer to be watching new players learning the mechanics, heh.
ThePixelSavage: oh Cam I have seen a great artwork of Magnus at the Council of Nikea ... can I link it here for you?
Wrexadecimal: @Cptasparagus Mario's Picross on the GB is what did it for me. Te game bored me at first, but I bame my small child brain for that, at least until a few years later.
Micalovits: Wait, was the name literal?
ThePixelSavage: I would love to see a series that is focused on all the behind the scenes reality of the events aroudn the Horus Heresy ... liek the Council
ThePixelSavage: @Micalovits yes he was very red
Micalovits: Huh, TIL
KaleidoscopeMind: high res!
Laserbeaks_Fury: oh interesting
Laserbeaks_Fury: 12 has to be all the way left
Cptasparagus: 2 unknown on either side
LordZarano: And now you can "build the city" as I call it
Trahas: oh man I love Picross games
Laserbeaks_Fury: the 224 has to take up all 10 spaces
GreatWahooney: absolutely nailing it
Laserbeaks_Fury: You know what? THERE IS NO EASTER BUNNY
GreatWahooney: free information? my favourite kind!
Marvoleath: @Laserbeaks_Fury but then who's keeping Santa Claus in check? D:
Territan: You can fill in row 14.
mercano82: 1+blank+13=15
KaleidoscopeMind: how rude of them to make us do math
Summerlithi:
Good morning, finally a game I've played
Territan: Middle 5, in fact.
Driskus: you finished the bottom row.
silenceaux: I'm going to guess Lassie with a cantaloupe
LordZarano: !crossover
LRRbot: If there hasn't been an Assassin's Creed game set here, there will be soon enough.
Territan: You do have enough information to complete the 1-2-3-1-1 row.
KaleidoscopeMind: it's always interesting seeing other people do logic puzzles. seeing what they catch vs what i am catching
Territan: It's really hard to tell how big a hint is too big here.
alchemistsavant: I thought I heard the wii shop channel music for a second there.
alchemistsavant: "Everyone loves stickers!" Don't let the magic players hear that sentence.
LordZarano: Is one of those stickers a poly pride flag?
JadedCynic:
Rev. Spooner-approved break!
TehAmelie: i'm now hooked on nonograms, thanks C&C
GreatWahooney: back in a shoot? is it filming day?
GreatWahooney: @TehAmelie One! Of! Us! One! Of! Us!
Summerlithi: Are we just Squeakross today, or other things too?
KaleidoscopeMind: i thought it was a shoe fort minutes, like taking a few moments in a pillow fort to relax
Sarah_Serinde: I haven't heard anything about other games planned for today
Sarah_Serinde: And they both seem to be enjoying this one
Summerlithi: ngl I wouldn't mind doing that sometimes
Summerlithi: I tried the demo a while back, it was a bit laggy them with the home decorating so I decided not to get it
KaleidoscopeMind: if we play more, we get more stickers tho
Summerlithi: I don't remember stickers from the demo
Summerlithi: I am digging the music tho
mercano82: !next
LRRbot: Next scheduled stream: Tinker Tailor Solder Fry (Ian's Tinkering, Tailoring, Soldering or Frying. Either way, something's catching on fire. Game: Oyster Shucking and Sides) at Thu 05:00 PM PDT (1:55 from now).
KaleidoscopeMind: oyster day
TimeToFry subscribed at Tier 1. They've subscribed for 81 months!
TimeToFry: To squeak or not to squeak
LRRbot:
Thanks for subscribing, TimeToFry! (Today's storm count: 7)
Summerlithi: A nice chianti?
RandomTrivia: oh no they're so adorable
SkipIives: Pinot Gris
RandomTrivia: Mood
mercano82: Frakin' toasters
GreatWahooney: them news do be breaking
Summerlithi: Clamato?
gualdhar: yeah probably a chardonay or something
gualdhar: depends on how its prepared
Summerlithi: How /would/ a horse wear his toast?
Territan: You can complete columns 8 and 9.
SkipIives: ooh I like nonograms
KaleidoscopeMind: is there a 3d equivalent of a nonogram? i imagine this would scale nicely
ContingentCat: often an interesting question in life, where do the holes go?
Territan: You can complete row 8 right now.
Sarah_Serinde: Territan They're enjoying playing it on their own, you don't need to backseat
KaleidoscopeMind: or at least top/side/front side projections
Territan: It's a challenge to hint just enough. Obviously I'm still overdoing it.
Sarah_Serinde: They're not looking for hints at all
kusinohki: meows
kusinohki: I was not expecting nonograms (aka picross)
Summerlithi: Noticed quite a few of the contributor contact links on your website are dead, I guess Twitter's no longer the place to be for you guys.
CaptainSpam:
I get the feeling the LRR website has a lot of updating to do.
Cptasparagus: you don't xeet anymore?
MAPBoardgames: Twitter isn't even the place for Twitter anymore
DrLigmaPhD: Twitter is no longer a place of honor (never was)
alchemistsavant: At least not for a very long time.
LordZarano: eX-Twitter
trainpants:
I quite like my moka pot
NornsFelidar: moka pot is the best
alchemistsavant: It was pretty innocent at first, as all baby social medias are. But then the Internet(tm) happened to it.
alchemistsavant: And with bad moderation and bad ownership, it only gets worse from there lol.
mercano82:
The About page on loadingreadyrun.com still has a bunch of Twitter links that probably needs to be cleaned up, but a Twitch chat is probably not the place to file that ticket.
InconsiderateHat subscribed at Tier 1. They've subscribed for 60 months!
LRRbot:
Thanks for subscribing, InconsiderateHat! (Today's storm count: 8)
Sarah_Serinde: They are aware that info on their site is outdated, it's just not terribly high on their priority list
Summerlithi: Featherweight's website link is also a dead end (to a japanese job hire site for some reason lol)
Cptasparagus: I think for a support ticket you have to hand deliver it to Gibb
LRRbot:
If you see something funny or particularly noteworthy, make a Clip of it! Your clip could appear in a fortnightly video or be seen at https://www.twitch.tv/loadingreadyrun/clips (Please give your clips descriptive names if you want them to be seen!)
Summerlithi: I figured, I mean who uses websites anymore, what is this the 90s?
Cptasparagus: websites are just how you find the discord
Summerlithi: Really they should change change the landing page to a big sign that says DISCORD THIS WAY and a big arrow pointing to a link
jessicaengle: Squeakety squeak, squeak squeaken?
CaptainSpam: As it turns out, decades of internet have taught me that people just really really don't like domain names.
notthepenguins: i try not to
SnackPak_:

Juliamon: I try REALLY HARD NOT TO
gualdhar: please don't remind me
ContingentCat: thanks for the reminder
neisan2112:

jessicaengle: Cameron, we're never not thinking about it down here
Summerlithi: I try not to think about the American government in general
trainpants: thanks for that Cam
IanAllenBird: I'm here specifically not to think about the us government
RedAlexxis: Um ... yeah, thanks for that
PipeSmokingOwl: <message deleted>at the direction of a 79 child toucher senile fascist. great times to be alive
SnackPak_: Cameron out here throwing haymakers
notthepenguins: yes
Sarah_Serinde: you did a bit, yeah
RandomTrivia:

jessicaengle: We're not angry, just disappointed
RustZenith: I don't want to think about this Dollar General President
Dog_of_Myth:

ContingentCat: reminding us of the current state of the US will do that
PipeSmokingOwl: understandable lol
ANeMzero: As someone who has played a couple hundred hours of nonogram games I figured that like the hardest part of this stream would be figuring out lines before you but then you dropped THAT.
gualdhar: we were all vibing then Cam drops a tactical nuke
Juliamon: We can't stop you from being political, Cam. We don't have that power. You must use it responsibly.
Summerlithi: More mouse numbers please!
RandomTrivia: [0] days since Cameron broke Chat
RedAlexxis: yes! Cheese puzzles plz
alchemistsavant: It's okay. Gut punching a calm moment with reality can be a genre of joke all its own.
jessicaengle:

ContingentCat: force it down and let it out as a fart
Summerlithi: This game has a really nice aethetic to be fair
mercano82: What's the difference between blue and black numbers?
mercano82: Hints that you can work on that row?
Sarah_Serinde: blue means you can figure out at least one block there yes
Juliamon: mercano82 Blue indicates there are logical moves you can make on that row
SkipIives: the blue has solvable boxes
xantos69: Cam, how do you know there aren't multiple solutions to these puzzles?
Cptasparagus: OH MAN this but with the Severance screens and the numbers just moving around and you have to go off vibes
Summerlithi: I'm learning that I play thing game quite differently from other people
Summerlithi: *this
Sarah_Serinde: I mean Cameron only learned how to play 2 hours ago
Juliamon: still, it is true that everyone solves these differently
SkipIives: I’ve played a lot of these, so I play differently, it’s a matter of leaning the patterns.
alchemistsavant: @Summerlithi That tracks. I know the brain can process numbers in all sorts of ways, and that might lead you in different starting directions.
Juliamon: I've learned to identify the number patterns that tell you if a line or column is completely solvable
RealGamerCow: speaking of logic, has "Is this seat taken" been played here yet?
Sarah_Serinde: not yet, it's very new
Sarah_Serinde: it's on my own list to play though
GreatWahooney: I played it recently, it's quite nice
Sarah_Serinde: I played the demo a while back
RealGamerCow: It is a *very* good logic game, I played it straight through in 3 days when it came out.
Azralorne: Is this seat taken is adorable and I love it
Azralorne: I want more of it so badly
Sarah_Serinde: yeah, yeah I was noticing that on the counter a while back
terrence_too: Orthographic
RedAlexxis: oh
KeytarCat: Classic "seats around the table" puzzle
RealGamerCow: Proabably 2-3 streams worth? Maybe I'm just dumb?
RockPusher: Tiltycounter
RandomTrivia: Oh that is disorienting
RedAlexxis: yes, unsettling
wedge_x: it's a hypercounter
neisan2112: I looks like its changing as it rotates but uuhhh yeha
niccus: we're embedded in a 3-spherical manifold
GreatWahooney: well skews me
DrakoniteDev: it looked to be orthographic projection
LordZarano: Orthographic projection looked like
GreatWahooney: alright folks, this is a blast but it is also bed time. see you on the vod!
LordZarano: @DrakoniteDev *hi five*
SkipIives: goodnight @greatwahooney
DrakoniteDev: @LordZarano *misses due to skewed projection matrix*
Juliamon: Incidentally, do any of these snazzy polished nonogram games have color puzzles other than Katana? I find them to be a fun twist.
Sarah_Serinde: I know some of the Picross S games on Switch do
Mr_Horrible: @Juliamon iirc the picross S-Series on the eshop has them
Mr_Horrible: latest 3 or 4 entries
alchemistsavant: hell yeah pride flag sticker
KaleidoscopeMind: so many stickers!
Juliamon: sweet
SkipIives: I’m colorblind so color puzzles aren’t usually for me.
KaleidoscopeMind: as long as the grid isn't split 9-9. oh no it is
Sarah_Serinde: I think I've only gotten to Picross S3 and that one already has some colour puzzles
Azralorne: @KaleidoscopeMind You can make it so it forces splits of 5 but they don't have that setting on
Sarah_Serinde: I should play those more
Juliamon: I'm looking at the Picross S wiki page and yea, looks like color puzzles start in S3
spethycakes: I really need to get this, don't I
Azralorne: @spethycakes Yes hahaha
Sarah_Serinde:
I do think the Picross S series is really well done, but also I haven't spent a lot of time on other Picross games so I'm biased
Juliamon: I'm mostly spoiled by Katana having access to effectively infinite puzzles because of user submissions
niccus: that's the wheelhouse of Simon Tatham's Puzzle Collection
mercano82: I've played a nonogram version of minesweeper. It doesn't make pictures, but it can create random puzzles
KeytarCat: @niccus I fuckin love Simon Tatham's Puzzle Collection
Juliamon: my brain: "MouseWashing"
raulghoulia: puzzles are fun
RustZenith: There is a SNES picross game on Nintendo Switch online if you want more picross in your life.
KeytarCat: Very much similar to MouseShaker
Juliamon: the crew of the ship are all mice, gnawing at the emergency insulation foam
Mr_Horrible: in-unit washer/dryer combo? This mouse is living large
SnackPak_: those feel good
Juliamon: oh, that was the first time I actually saw the mouse eating their cheerio-bagel from the start of the animation
DrakoniteDev: you can finish top row
KeytarCat: My building has 6 units and one washer/dryer combo. It's coin-operated. When I asked my landlord about alternate payment methods he got upset with me
Juliamon: you can, yes
DrakoniteDev: 2nd to last col can't be twp
Summerlithi: All the little details in this game, like the soft clicky sound as you're mousing around and the shadow on the side of the play area, really nice
Boopity: Never trust video games. They are LIARS
mercano82: The game is wrong, but also don't let chat backseat you
niccus: people who own the game, can you turn off blue clues?
DrakoniteDev:
yeah, don't need to listen to me
mercano82: Mistakes were made.
alchemistsavant: Just noticed the copyright on the bottom right of the puzzle card too lol
AFamiliarCalledEl: @niccus Yeah, you can turn off all the logic and emulate a paper puzzle
Boopity: Time to oops stumble our way into the correct solution
Juliamon: I can never 'fix' mistakes, I always have to just start over from scratch
mercano82: If the mistake was made back when I think it was, there's a lot of snowballing mistakes
niccus: without an undo button you pretty much have to, yeah
Boopity:
Sometimes when you make one mistake towards the end, you can kind of bullshit your way towards fixing it, which is honestly a pretty amazing feeling
Juliamon: yeah, they snowball REAL badly
Sarah_Serinde: I have mixed success with that, I'll try for a while and if I can't figure it out, I'll restart
Mr_Horrible: I've gotten a bit better at fixing mistakes, but yeah sometimes I just fuddle for 5 minutes and say "It's intractable" and start over :V
mercano82: I think the last column was done incorrectly the last time
DrakoniteDev: I went to wishlist this, and apprently it was already on my wishlist
Sarah_Serinde: feels worse if you restart a big puzzle and then realize you've made the same mistake as you did last time
Boopity: @Sarah_Serinde Ooof, real
Sarah_Serinde: not that I would know anything about that personally of course >_>
RandomTrivia: And worse still if you restart a big puzzle and realise it *wasn't* a mistake
Boopity: "This time I will be so careful"
Mr_Horrible: honestly I prefer these kinds to the game modes where a mistake is marked and then corrected. I always feel like whenever I get those due to a bad assumption or a misinput I want to restart because I want a "clean" record
Sarah_Serinde: @Mr_Horrible Oh yeah, I don't like the game immediately pointing out and correcting my mistake like that. Especially because sometimes I just accidentally hit the wrong block and immediately go back to correct it
thecwis26: I feel no shame in hitting the "show my mistakes" button if I don't want to restart
Mr_Horrible:
@Sarah_Serinde "I do not know what the error was, only that one was made" The Error: "Okay so I'll see you again in, let's say 5 minutes? Cool."
Sarah_Serinde: I think that was one of the things I didn't like about Meow Tower, though it's been long enough that I don't remember very well
mercano82: @Mr_Horrible I've been doing the occational big puzzle on my tablet. (45x45, I think, for a Katana Nonograms quest) Input mistakes are ineveitable at that size, the cells are so small.
thecwis26: I like that it's *your* choice to hit that button or not though
Boopity: Yeah, I can see a use case for both, which is why it's nice when it's a toggleable option
Sarah_Serinde:
@Mr_Horrible
ChargingFurret: that’s a very excitable mouse there
Juliamon: mercano82 You have to learn to get comfortable with zooming.
Mr_Horrible: @Sarah_Serinde iirc the actual carts of Picross DS had a mode that marked errors and then a mode that didn't, and I always preferred the non-marked because it just let me noodle it out myself
Mr_Horrible: @mercano82 Picross 3D and 3D 2 were *so* bad about this for me, I'd flub a tap and then have to restart the puzzle
Sarah_Serinde: @Mr_Horrible You can customize it on the Switch ones that I've been playing. I don't mind the numbers showing me I've got something wrong somewhere, but I don't want the game immediately flagging the input I just did as wrong
TheAwkes: Back from dinner and I can report that ketchup + chili crisp is, indeed, a good fry sauce.
Mr_Horrible: @Sarah_Serinde yeah, the eshop ones iirc are fully customizable for marking hints/info/mistakes, so I always just turn it off whenever I start a new edition
Mr_Horrible: I'm just remember the old DS ones that had physical copies
mercano82: I often do a string of cells just to messure out how much slack space there is, then erase what isn't certain. Automatic mistake flagging doesn't work with that playstyle.
thecwis26: I like that you dont have to "toggle" it on this game though. I can play and try to figure my mistakes out on my own without it alerting me, but I can *just this once* hit a button and let it show me the wrong squares
thecwis26: when I get overwhelmed
Boopity:
@mercano82 Exactly same
Mr_Horrible: those iirc were based off the Mario Picross formula, where you had the Mario mode which marked mistakes, and then the "harder" Wario mode that didn't
SnackPak_:

Boopity:

DrakoniteDev: gg
ChargingFurret:

Cptasparagus: are these objects made of cheese?
thecwis26:

kdefinition: IQ is bullshit
Boopity: @Cptasparagus There are cheese objects
KaleidoscopeMind: just like building it in real life. you mess up the directions and have to tear it up and rebuild
raulghoulia: you did great. be easier on yourself
mercano82: In Mario Picross, you're carving your answer in stone, as far as game lore goes, so I can see why it's less mistake tollerant.
Mr_Horrible: @thecwis26 yeah, having a quick toggle or overlay to point stuff is a very nice QoL feature
niccus: what's your nonogram slugging percentage
SquareDotCube: oh man now you got me thinking Poker Night
alchemistsavant: you have 2000 iq in my heart, cam
Boopity: Gotta reach that Diamond league in picrossing
Sarah_Serinde: I didn't actually get into Picross until the Pokemon one for I think 3DS? Which I really enjoyed
Mr_Horrible: Cameron posting the "leaderboards" for a single player game on local telephone poles
Sarah_Serinde: And was completely fine with their chosen implementation of free to play
KaleidoscopeMind: and Stickers
Boopity: Very satisfying UI sounds
Mr_Horrible: @Sarah_Serinde Oh I and my sister played a TON of the SNES Mario Picross games on emulation back in the day [if Nintendo is reading this we *totally* had Japanese copies we couldn't play] and that got us hooked on the genre
Boopity: 3 stock no items final destination picross only
alchemistsavant: Thanks for streaming!
SkipIives: time to buy another game
DrakoniteDev:

KeytarCat: No place like Squome
SkipIives: thanks for the stream
Boopity: Again???
Mr_Horrible: yeah, very cute iteration of a puzzle genre I enjoy, A+
ContingentCat: forever
Juliamon: like shellfish, rather
Mr_Horrible: hopefully the oysters themselves are staying down
raulghoulia: which monster was responsible last time
KaleidoscopeMind: commander go BRrrr
RandomTrivia: I hope someone is playing Rakdos Rakdos, the Rakdos-iest deck to ever Rakdos
Mr_Horrible: it's gonna be peam
RandomTrivia: Because it's there
Boopity: Number go up
KeytarCat: I played a borrowed Valgovoth group slug deck and loved it
niccus: that's also what james claimsed
KaleidoscopeMind: more squeaks
Mr_Horrible:
imagine the opposite of today's game
ArdCollider: oh my god ratshaker I'm so excited
ContingentCat: ooo more rat time
Sarah_Serinde: !schedule
RandomTrivia:

Juliamon: Cameron
ContingentCat: Guess not.
Sarah_Serinde:

CaptainSpam: Cameron. Cameron pls.
RandomTrivia: Oh good, such a hard swerve I got actual whiplash
Boopity:

ContingentCat:

ContingentCat: !advice
LRRbot: Everyone gets a brick.
DoodlestheGreat: 10 q 4 strem
ContingentCat: oh nooooooo
RandomTrivia: Oh boy, I love my brick!
Mr_Horrible: "This is what my great grandpa fought and died for. In retrospect, I don't know why he jumped on that grenade, the whole thing was supposed to be very low-stakes."
Mr_Horrible: you know, for a light afternoon
ContingentCat: I'll watch that when I'm feeling up to it
RandomTrivia:
Thanks for the stream, Cameron and Cori!

Mr_Horrible: so many options for rosy content
ArdCollider: o7
DrakoniteDev: bai

Summerlithi: Started watching but had to stop because unfortunately she sites her sources so I had to keep listening to clips of these asshole talking about shit and I couldn't stand it anymore
Mr_Horrible: I say as I have a BtB episode paused in another tab lol
RandomTrivia: I'm gonna go watch a cosy video about trains, just to spite you - so there
Mr_Horrible: excellent play, tbh
raulghoulia: ooo Cam is on the path to owning a machete. Everyone who listens to BtB eventually owns a machete
Sarah_Serinde: I'm gonna go catch up on some older seasons of GBBO
RandomTrivia: I think I have an Only Connect to catch up with as well
RandomTrivia: Can't be depressed if brain turns to mush!
RandomTrivia: (this is untrue)
Sarah_Serinde: unfortunate
Juliamon: that's an interesting thought experiment. Can you have a mental illness when there is no brain function?
Juliamon: or at that point is it just misplaced hormones and microplastics?
RandomTrivia: Hmmmmm
Juliamon: Can death really free us from the horrors of life?
RandomTrivia: If you die of a disease, do you suddenly stop having the disease even though it is still inside your body?
Juliamon: Alright, I'll move on from being so existensial
RandomTrivia: Anyway this got way more morbid than I intended
Juliamon: we were both thinking it
RandomTrivia:
My tea has run out, I should fix that
Juliamon: might as well die caffeinated
