@Raincoast_Bear thx
RatherLargeToad: parsecs
kusinohki: can I feel sorry for cori being in a y-wing? my tie fighter experience means she's most likely first to die...

pleonasticTautology: you press z or r twice
RatherLargeToad: consult the Peppy!
TheWanderingNomad: @johnnylongtorso Hey don't you besmirch my Space MiG
Fruan: It's remarkably simple when you get the hang of it, while remaining almost impossible to stay off the rocks.
letsbelgo: Thats actually an aelieron roll, not a barrel roll. *pushes glasses through forehead*
kusinohki: z-95.... yeah. also little respect, but just didn't see enough of them I guess. by the end of the game I had 200-250 y-wing kills...
hiFunko: looks like 12
Lord_Hosk:
Its 3 Imperial units
johnnylongtorso: in space, no one can hear you measure
Akaiatana: Rebels will do anything to not use Imperial
gnyrinn: But you're not dealing with real life units, you're talking about inches.
notpsion: heh
Manitu_25: @gnyrinn lmao
iBowl125: WHOA now way y'all're playing X-Wing!
Akaiatana: X-wings win TIEs
Lord_Hosk:
Listen, Star Wars fandom is full of Inaccuracies they think are correct

"I've got a good feeling about this" Cameron breaking Star Wars canon
QuixoticScrivener: decimeter mentioned!
kusinohki: ^^
Lord_Hosk: I have that problem too Cori, I can only focus... sometimes
artdecosunburn: Roll casual.
haiiro87: DO A BARREL ROLL!
kusinohki: is the left side of screen the flow char ian is following??
johnnylongtorso: *beep beep* he cut me off!
DigitalSeahorse:

ghyllnox: I didn't realize they're "Aurora" and "Banana," that's both awesome and in keeping with the military naming things alphabetically
letsbelgo: lockon lockon
Despoiler98: line em up shoot em down
artdecosunburn: Are there canonical bananas in the Star Wars universe? I bet they're blue.
TehAmelie: maybe the legend of the banana has spread to a galaxy far far away. and long ago
artdecosunburn: The Jedi Chi Q'Ita.
kusinohki: that enemy got split by the banana!
artdecosunburn: @kusinohki Double scoop of blasters with a cherry.
DigitalSeahorse:

Gadora: Does the defense roll happen before or after Cam spends his focus?
LoadingReadyRun: Famous Star Wars pop group S Foil 7
Lord_Hosk: Lock Cameron foils in attack possition
kusinohki: foiled again!
Despoiler98: Cams wingperson is in a Y-wing nobody was there to tell him to lock his s-foils before the battle
Akaiatana: Ribs grow back!
artdecosunburn: LRR should get some actual plotting rods to move ships/units, like in the animated intro.
Despoiler98: GONK
wedge_x: hell yeah gonk
Dog_of_Myth: Good old Gonk
kusinohki: gonk, the true hero we need
artdecosunburn: Does this system use proprietary dice of the sort FFG was so fond?
Despoiler98: LOL Tie Fighters with shields
Despoiler98: @artdecosunburn yes very much so
artdecosunburn: Figured so.
kusinohki: some tie fighters have shields. they tend to be prototypes though...
Lord_Hosk: Are the T.I.E. Fighters taking Bobby Hull damage or Brett Hull damage? because one is way stronger
artdecosunburn: @Lord_Hosk Worse, Hull, England. Very grim.
kusinohki: monty hall damage. you can choose the other door to get hit instead
gnyrinn: @artdecosunburn So the damage is dealt by unemployed fishermen, then?
public_key_reveal_party: I also can't take actions when stressed
Despoiler98: @public_key_reveal_party mood
kusinohki: I only take action when stressed. mostly lots of flailing...
artdecosunburn: @gnyrinn Precisely. And the torpedoes are Yorkshire soccer hooligans.
TheMerricat: For Chat's sake, yes the sticks they use in war gaming to move units are in fact called plotting rods, but it doesn't look like anyone sells them under that name. On the other hand, there are plenty of rake style croupier sticks out there on the market that as far as I can tell, are plotting rods with a different name.
LoadingReadyRun: My impression is that tie fighters are basically the smallest/cheapest ship that they can make. Just enough ship to fit a gun and hold pilot
Vector_Zero subscribed with Prime. They've subscribed for 79 months!
Vector_Zero: a long game ago, in a studio far far away
LRRbot:
Thanks for subscribing, Vector_Zero! (Today's storm count: 30)
TehAmelie: of course, they spend such extravagant resources on star destroyers and death stars, gotta make up the budget somewhere
TheAinMAP:

Despoiler98: @LoadingReadyRun yes they are designed to be short ranged and mass produced so a star destroyer can jump in and deploy swarms of them
artdecosunburn: @TheMerricat I've actually looked into this. Some specialty WWII wargame companies that do block games sell wooden rods. A rake traditionally bends from the side, while a rod runs straight down the middle from the center.
Raincoast_Bear: @LoadingReadyRun The Imperial Budgeting Office in notoriously strict with fighter purchasing.
artdecosunburn: @LoadingReadyRun They're like PT boats in Vietnam, right?
LoadingReadyRun: and if your base ship is destroyed, you are basically screwed
public_key_reveal_party: so did cameron just drift a spaceship?
artdecosunburn: @Raincoast_Bear Especially since Darth Vought came in.
Despoiler98: @LoadingReadyRun if your out of range of a base or inhabited planet yes
wedge_x: @artdecosunburn closer to Soviet doctrine
Despoiler98: they have no hyperdrive
johnnylongtorso: from lazy two to dropping a bomb
Raincoast_Bear: @LoadingReadyRun INdeed - basic TIEs do not have hyperdrives IIRC.
TheMerricat: @LoadingReadyRun So this is one of those things that gets argued about on reddit. The common perception is that tie fighters are just mass produced cannon fodder, but if you actually pay attention to the movies (at least the old ones, I haven't seen the last three) and notice they actually don't get shot down any more than the rebels do, which given the alliance ships HAVE shields, should say something.
Lord_Hosk: Fireball comes out of Cori's butt as she flys away
TheMerricat: For the most part, tie fighters are 'weak' because of the video games.
Lord_Hosk: And the movies
Kentosaurus: I think a good analogy for tie fighters is the sherman tank from wwii. cheap and simple to manufacture and repair, and you make so many you can outnumber the enemy
Despoiler98: @TheMerricat I mean you say that but lookit what the millenium falcon did to them
TehAmelie: i tried looking into if the city Hull got its name from the ship feature or the other way around, but boy that place is ancient and complicated
TheMerricat:
@Despoiler98 With a force user manning the guns.
artdecosunburn: @public_key_reveal_party Tattooine Drift?
Despoiler98: @TheMerricat Han?
public_key_reveal_party: they add an oxidizer to the ships for just the purpose of cool looking explosions
Raincoast_Bear: Don't get cocky, Merricat.
TheMerricat: @Despoiler98 Luke
xantos69: @TheMerricat It is really a question of what is the "best ship". It is kind of like asking what is the best tank. Standard Tie Fighters are a great ship in some areas and not others. They are extremely fast and maneuverable, they attain that by giving up armor and shields. Because everything in engineering is a trade off.
kusinohki: for the most part we only see tie fighters interacting with the main cast who typically have plot armor so we seldom see them in a winning situation....
Lord_Hosk:
Han Solo, notably, not a force user
Despoiler98: I know, han was on the guns too
Despoiler98: @Lord_Hosk thanks
wedge_x: the early MiGs, the -15, -17, -19, and -21, were all built on the idea of fairly cheap to produce, fast as hell, couple of strong guns, and not much else
TehAmelie: guess they didn't worry too much about the cost of training pilots back then either
RealGamerCow: This is fun!
artdecosunburn: Round 4, that is Round 1.
Despoiler98: @TehAmelie in the video games basically if you survived being a TIE Fighter pilot that was how you got promoted to the more advanced fighters
artdecosunburn: @TehAmelie The whole region is fascinating in its complexity.
DigitalSeahorse:

gnyrinn: That's one of Bradley's tracks, right? In any case it's really good.
TheMerricat:
Ah yeah, that would still work but it's not the iconic image.
DigitalSeahorse:
interesting album
artdecosunburn: Exactly. Why I'm always on the lookout for a classic, center handle, wooden plotting stick.
wedge_x: in reality, fighter complexity went up as missiles became more complex and viable. and while there's a lot of guided weaponry in the games, on screen most star wars dogfights are purely gunfights
wedge_x:
because that's visually more interesting
DigitalSeahorse:

artdecosunburn: @wedge_x As opposed to Star Trek fights, which are submarine warfare.
wedge_x: ^
wedge_x: and surface fleet yeah
gnyrinn: @wedge_x Also, it's what audiences who grew up on WW2 films can get into.
TheMerricat: I would love a space fighter of ANY franchise, or even a new one of it's own that actually had missiles that were even half as competent as what is fielded TODAY.
artdecosunburn: Space drones?
lamina5432: I want a gundam mobile suit one
gnyrinn: @artdecosunburn featuring lots and lots of orbital mechanics
TheMerricat: Or even just ones that relied on good ol fashion image recognition and tracking. You know how many times I've seen a sci-fi fight where a fighter 'jukes' a missle or tricks it because it's using 'heat signatures'.
Darth_Litigious: A space fighter set in the Expanse universe could be neat.
wedge_x: the little bit of Gundam I've watched does a really good job of mixing both kinds of air combat and making it interesting
tdapenguin: @gnyrinn sounds like PvP Kerbal?
TehAmelie: Eve Online has a pretty fun system, if totally divorced from reality. the bigger the missile the slower it explodes, so faster ships take less damage. . .
artdecosunburn: Ugh. I had an extensive discussion about Kepler's Laws and orbital launch trajectories for a museum exhibit the other day. Intricate stuff.
lamina5432: I'm so freakin jealous of anywhere that has access to the gundam cockpit arcade machine
wedge_x: woooow
artdecosunburn: @TehAmelie Is that the one with the elaborate, spreadsheet-based economy?
DigitalSeahorse:

TehAmelie: yeop
SquareDotCube: line
TheMerricat: @artdecosunburn EVE Online, the spreadsheet game with a space sim attached.
artdecosunburn: Ha!
johnnylongtorso: TIE lolno
Raincoast_Bear: @artdecosunburn Aren't all economies spread-sheet based?
DigitalSeahorse: Linear Ninja
kusinohki: would LN be leutinant? rank of pilot??
artdecosunburn: Like my favorite 90s trading card game. Sim City. It was essentially playing a spreadsheet.
wedge_x: leftenant in SWU LOL
artdecosunburn: @Raincoast_Bear The Soviet economy was false spreadsheet based.
margieargie: TIE Light Novel, clearly
Raincoast_Bear: TIE/ln Likey Nonfunctional.
lamina5432: If EVE wasn't well known pay to win I think I'd be giving it a try
Despoiler98: @kusinohki no its short for Line, as in the basic or standard line model

artdecosunburn: @DigitalSeahorse Rare space metals?
DigitalSeahorse: Latitude North
TheMerricat:
Yes, yes that's how it works Cori.
DigitalSeahorse: yes, future metals
artdecosunburn: Ohhh. (Whispers) "The future." (Theramin plays)
JKBalch: Skippy!
UnknownFriday: According to my Haynes TIE Fighter manual, the Empire's official name for the craft is the Twin Ion Engine line edition space superiority starfighter, which Sienar abbreviated as TIE/in.
DigitalSeahorse:

lamina5432: @Despoiler98 I think that might be the eventual outcome a lot of MMO's lead people to
artdecosunburn: They do have a space Boeing, and their aelerons fall off.
kusinohki: etheric rudder
Despoiler98: yes
LoadingReadyRun: Devastator To Be Determined
si_valael: I learned about a new WWII bomber today, thanks Cam!
Despoiler98: Nah Cam the Y Wing is the Dauntless
I_Am_Clockwork: not to be confused with The Devastator, which is a named Star Destroyer XD
kusinohki: how come no one ever does an emmelman turn? it's always barrel rolls...
artdecosunburn: @LoadingReadyRun Devastator. Reminds me it would be fun to see LRR play the old tabletop "Crimson Skies."
I_Am_Clockwork: A touch, a touch, I do confess
johnnylongtorso: nice shootin', Tex
artdecosunburn: A maneuver of this complexity needs a name.
Despoiler98: @artdecosunburn I wonder what it could be?
artdecosunburn: The Victoria Two-Step?
johnnylongtorso: the banana split
SquareDotCube: @artdecosunburn Let's call it the "Fancy Flying"
artdecosunburn: @johnnylongtorso Bingo!
gnyrinn: Complete the Pacific war analogy, do a Thatch weave.
artdecosunburn: @SquareDotCube I do think that's appropriate.
I_Am_Clockwork: "Keep your distance, chewie, but don't LOOK like you're trying to keep your distance... I don't know, fly casual"
si_valael: In honor of the newest crapshot, I recommend it be called the hotdog slip
HadesLeprechaun: The 'fly straight' maneuver! Nobody has ever tried that
Lord_Hosk: You just call your mothership mom
artdecosunburn: @Lord_Hosk Until the divorce, then you get a step-mothership.
I_Am_Clockwork: The Indipendence is the name of your mother ship in the X-Wing video game
I_Am_Clockwork: Independence even
Despoiler98: isnt the asteroid blocking?
Lord_Hosk: There is sound is Star Wars Space, because there is "etheria" which transmits sound and allows for maneuvering with fins and wings.
vinewood_og: Thicc Space
Kentosaurus: sound emulation
RatherLargeToad: Minonsky particles
artdecosunburn: Nice of the physical principles of the universe to match the needs of Hollywood in a galaxy far, far away.
I_Am_Clockwork: that means that you could program Tiefighters to make fart sounds
I_Am_Clockwork: instead of their clasic scream
artdecosunburn: Lucas also was obsessed with the Tuskeegee Airmen.
I_Am_Clockwork: which would be hilarious
Despoiler98: ka BOOM
public_key_reveal_party: so cori fired a bomb into a meteor that in turn got fired into a ship?
I_Am_Clockwork: looks out to me
Despoiler98: no I think she laid a mine on the asteroid that blewd up cause the TIE was close enough
Kentosaurus: uh oh
TheAinMAP: No shields? But that's one of the Y-wing's greatest strengths.
hiFunko: I'm gonna be taking a hard two once I finish this morning coffee
public_key_reveal_party: I forgot the tracks on the top right were not obstacles
artdecosunburn: X-wing, Y-wing, B-Wing -- What would be the worst letter to inspire a Star Wars fighter?
Despoiler98: Cam if you have to ask the question?
artdecosunburn: I'm thinking the G-wing would be awful.
kusinohki: o-wing?
si_valael: p-wing
KeytarCat: W
public_key_reveal_party: @artdecosunburn Q- wing
letsbelgo: Show me your O0wing
letsbelgo: O-wing
gnyrinn: @artdecosunburn W, or possibly ð.
kusinohki: s-wing is awkward to say....
letsbelgo: Thorne-wing? If we want to get fancy
Dog_of_Myth: Z wing would be weird
iarethel0ser: Lowercase-i wing.
letsbelgo: Z wing sounds too cool. Thats like the super good pilots
letsbelgo: that do secret missions
kusinohki: zero wing if we include numbers...
letsbelgo: and shoot lightsabers or someshit
saintguard: Any letter with umlaut-wing
Dog_of_Myth: Gamma wing you don't want to make angry.
johnnylongtorso: @kusinohki what you say?!
gnyrinn: Didn't Mel Brooks threaten to make a movie featuring an Aleph-wing?
A_Dub888:
@iarethel0ser now you're just imagining things
Dog_of_Myth: Æ-wing is the real one.
I_Am_Clockwork: The Double U wing, not to be confused with the W wing
artdecosunburn: @Dog_of_Myth Sounds like a SpaceX/Tesla project.
public_key_reveal_party: if we expand past letters and move to punctuation we could get the interrobang wing which I think would be fun
artdecosunburn: Ha!
Dog_of_Myth:

letsbelgo: @gnyrinn Jews in space. A fake movie at the end of history of the world part 1
gnyrinn: @letsbelgo That was the reference, yes.
letsbelgo: Well you asked a question
Despoiler98: thats a danger cookie
kusinohki: thought the rebels have shot down 2 ties already
johnnylongtorso: carry the 7...
artdecosunburn: The real burden for Cori and Cameron will be the Alliance paperwork when they get back to base.
public_key_reveal_party: everyone on this stream and everyone watching the stream will be making hard 2 jokes for as long as this game is being played
Despoiler98: @public_key_reveal_party as is correct
public_key_reveal_party: you have to be very careful to not mix them and the healing torpedos up
kusinohki: "fire the lasers of understanding!"
johnnylongtorso: the homing torpedoes gave up and went home
artdecosunburn: @kusinohki Sounds like something a heavily-armed UNESCO would do.
vinewood_og: Luke, maybe you should switch ON your targeting computer
A_Dub888: did gibb weigh these dice after some slight?
johnnylongtorso: that Wookiee must not have much leg room
kusinohki: these pilots came from the stormtrooper ranks...
artdecosunburn: The Astromech may be drunk on the job.
johnnylongtorso: it's just a jump to the left, and a hard 2 to the riiiiight
letsbelgo: Like a bird
artdecosunburn: Given that these are TIEs, I hope they have an interweaving maneuver called "the Shoelace."
letsbelgo: lazy three all day
e_bloc: stealing Heather's bit from Rhythm Cafe/House of lies
Raincoast_Bear: He did not do an Immelmann after all.
ghyllnox: Personally I don't mind Cam's fidgets even if they sometimes bong
johnnylongtorso: scratched the paint on that one
DigitalSeahorse:

hiFunko: yes
hiFunko: in xmen 3
kusinohki: I think you have to become a tie fighter ace before you can fly an interceptor...
artdecosunburn: @johnnylongtorso Gonna be docked for dinging the company car.
public_key_reveal_party: you have demonstrated the ability to not crash into a rock, for this we award you a distinguished metal
hyralt: Vinnie Jones the ex-footballer
e_bloc: xmen 3 was great because they managed to incorporate one of the great memes of the time with Juggernaut--"don't you know who I am...I AM THE JUGGERNAUT BITCH."
2 raiders from Foxmar320 have joined!
public_key_reveal_party: "engagment occurs. remember to like and subscribe"
Raincoast_Bear: JUGGERNAUT BITCH is the name of my Bikini Kill cover band.
Dog_of_Myth: Heya Raiders
johnnylongtorso: here be space dragons
artdecosunburn: Avoid the edge of the map -- are the Imperials afraid they're going to fall off?
kusinohki: I hate when I fall off the edge of space...
artdecosunburn: @johnnylongtorso That's what space maps these days are missing. Elaborate cartouches and sea monsters in the margins.
artdecosunburn: NASA should get on that.
CookieMom: Those bonuses seem ill-conceived. If players fail to complete objectives, they're less able to deal with future objectives.
e_bloc: so is it a star chart vs star map, since the call exploration vehicles ships?
LoadingReadyRun: #deploycurvy
hyralt: my hard 2 came out curvy once. it was unpleasant
artdecosunburn: Probably. I wonder if fictional ships use star trackers like real world deep space probes.
Raincoast_Bear: The die roll table AI for the ships is surprising sometimes. We found it often makes better choices than our own maneuvers....
e_bloc: pain meds after surgery cause the worst kind of hard 2
LoadingReadyRun: A curvy 2 is how you poop a Q
artdecosunburn: @Raincoast_Bear You're saying the algorithms are learning? (Looks around, paranoid)
hyralt: @LoadingReadyRun oh wow I saw that video a long time ago
QuixoticScrivener: What are the rebel symbols tracking for the players?
e_bloc: I do not want to know the specifics of a hard 3
LoadingReadyRun: @QuixoticScrivener XP
Raincoast_Bear: The "K" turn is the Immelmann IIRC.
QuixoticScrivener: @loadingreadyrun thanks Paul!
artdecosunburn: @e_bloc Involves a lot of fiber.
e_bloc: @artdecosunburn I just clenched so hard thinking about that

Nicarrow: Hi ALL
LRRbot:
Thanks for subscribing, Nicarrow! (Today's storm count: 31)
e_bloc: I think the problem is they used all of the dice luck for the week last night on Stardew
artdecosunburn: Stardew, Star Wars. Only so much star luck to go around.
Raincoast_Bear: Star Dew X-Valley
LoadingReadyRun: That was James rolling, too. so that's like double luck usage
artdecosunburn: @Raincoast_Bear Sounds like an extreme cola from the 1990s.
e_bloc: after the first year of Stardew Wars, you find out the person who you inherited the farm from is Darth Vader
artdecosunburn: "Luke, I am your Farmer."
e_bloc:
@artdecosunburn
ghostihosti: Star Wars IV: StarDew Trope
e_bloc: every now and then I fall apart
artdecosunburn: The TIE fighter is like a dog. Has to circle before resting.
Raincoast_Bear: That's no moon...
ghostihosti: Does the app feature a post-battle animation of everything that happened at real time, because if not, it should.
Raincoast_Bear: Isn't it roll a die for damage? Or is that only in Star Trek Attack Wing?
Raincoast_Bear: Irrelevant.
Raincoast_Bear: Awesome roll!
TehAmelie: i believe it'll be a challenge for the community to construct that animation
Raincoast_Bear: Metals for everybody (except the Wookie)!
hyralt: That was fun!
ghostihosti: Congrats on not getting blow up!
xantos69:
