EedanHensey: It's been a fun journey yeah. Hearing Nelly rattle off which characters can alter jump trajectories was wild.
Thefluffiestguineapig: Nelly's journey has genuinely been inspiring
TXC2: EnglishGrinn reminds me of when Overwatch did stuff with Tracer, and everyone said it was weird for her, but ok for Widowmaker

jadielady: thanks y'all
hypergirlie_hyperpop: @EnglishGrinn i am begging gamers to learn about objectification through a feminist lens as discussed by women. I promise, the fiction associated with a character has very little to do with whether or not it is appropriate or "hurts no one"

ghizmou: funny as in funny, it seems only one of us is playing this game

EnglishGrinn: Too much magic has be off the train altogether. I went from a serious player to buying zero cards last year
Thefluffiestguineapig: @TXC2 I'm fully aware that's why there is now a damn TMNT full ass standard set for fucking no reason
drewm1022: I'm just ignoring the UB sets and pretending they don't exist. I don't play standard, so whatever. :D
RelwinEJ: Give me a tournament format without UB or Horizons sets and I'll buy actual cards again
Aceviru: @EnglishGrinn That's been me for more than a year now
Thefluffiestguineapig: I've been saying too much Magic since they went beyond 3 standard sets
Thefluffiestguineapig: I also just don't care about any secret lairs, they don't even register for me
TXC2: IMO the UB sets aren't the problem, SEVEN sets in one year, and standard being THREE years long is
KeytarCat: I've never liked having cards, but I used to keep up with every card in the sets
lamina5432: I mostly just do prereleases
TimeToFry: Chat wdym you aren't excited for Magic's New York Block Kappa
Thefluffiestguineapig: @TXC2 For me part of the fact is 4 of the sets are UB and while they keep promising to go back to 3 standard sets a year they've been promising that and have had years with 4 and 5 for how many years now?
TXC2: I only play arena so my perspective is different on this
drewm1022: Yeah but if you look at last year as Aetherdrift/Tarkir/EoE it feels much more sane.
calculated_uncertainties: Meh, the all fandoms are real helped me go into recovery ages ago.
Thefluffiestguineapig: @drewm1022 That wasn't all, there was also Final Fantasy, Spiderman and Avatar. Those were also in Standard
Aceviru: I stopped arena once everything made treasure tokens. Right after d&d
hypergirlie_hyperpop: @EnglishGrinn I don't know you or where it might be appropriate to start, but here's the New York Public Library's reading list: https://www.nypl.org/books-more/recommendations/essential-feminism/adults
TXC2: Thefluffiestguineapig fair enough
drewm1022: @Thefluffiestguineapig That's my point, I ignore the UB sets. I don't care about standard, though.
TXC2: Aceviru Treasure is the number 2 mistake after companions for me, no joke
KeytarCat: Is it possible to remain competetive in standard without using UB?
TXC2: nope, the Avatar set is fire
Thefluffiestguineapig: @drewm1022 My issue is they are spending less and less time on the in universe sets because in the minds of the C suites UB sets make more money. Plus the UB sets take away a HUGE amount of development time from the other sets and mean everything else is rushed
Thefluffiestguineapig: @KeytarCat Absolutely not
drewm1022: @Thefluffiestguineapig Oh, I absolutely agree with you. I was saying that it helps product fatigue, for me, to ignore the UB stuff entirely.
Thefluffiestguineapig: Genuinely the Avatar set is mostly very good, some of the choices were clearly meme based and the number of legendary creatures makes my head hurt but specific format motivated choices aside it's super great
Aceviru: I'm hoping piolander pops off. I want a way to play both in paper and digitally that doesn't wreck everyone's bank accounts after each set.
RockPusher eats his porridge like the old man that he is
Thefluffiestguineapig: @drewm1022 Yes and no, because for me ignoring the existence of the UB product means if one of the in universe products is shoved aside and/or undercooked to get to a UB product it doesn't help anyone
TehAmelie: i don't even play any measurable amount of MtG but the amount of releases last year was exhausting
Thefluffiestguineapig: @RockPusher Just finished my raisin bran, I feel you
TehAmelie: wonder how many people dropped Magic for Riftbound. . .

RockPusher: good pull LRRbot
Thefluffiestguineapig: @Aceviru 0.o
Strebenherz: @TehAmelie Have to get the cards first :p
KeytarCat: I feel like MTG should do the Bandai thing and just release UB under a mechanical umbrella instead of a specific game. But that's fucked in a different way
KeytarCat: and doesn't help the dev side problems
drewm1022: @Thefluffiestguineapig I would say that EoE and Tarkir felt unrushed. Aetherdrift maybe a little but I think that was the tail end of the hats cycle.
KeytarCat: UB as fanfic
Aceviru: @Thefluffiestguineapig Yu-Gi-Oh is reshaping itself in ways that call back to older times. I love that.

drewm1022: @Thefluffiestguineapig Fair, and yeah that sucked. On the other hand, the consensus is that three sets seems comfortable so did we really want a fourth in universe one?
Aceviru: @Thefluffiestguineapig I read this and my heart sank as I thought for a second that tmnt was coming first
TXC2: streams started, lets move on from MtG talk

ForOhForError: @hyalopterous wait, actually? I thought it was still "when it's ready"
RockPusher: We towed them outside the media environment
TXC2: I would still line interesting times, but good stuff happens instead of all this :p
Wolfstrike_NL: Which is not during DB this year!
TehAmelie: Slay the Spire 2: We Found Another Spire

accountmadeforants: I say release *all* the games January 1st and let the players sort it out.

SymphonySolstice: all on the same day, once a year
Alex_Frostfire: What about the developers making so-bad-it's-good games? Or does that only exist for movies?
SquareDotCube: Gamedev royale, last one standing gets earliest release date available
Laserbeaks_Fury: AAA bundle: It's all car games
Thefluffiestguineapig: @Alex_Frostfire I don't know if that truly exists for games. Because for me things like Tomato Way aren't Bad

ForOhForError: yeah don't worry about it
Thefluffiestguineapig: And they searched your bag and person before you went in the room
TehAmelie: i remember a story of a teacher printing some reading material by scanning hundreds of pages from an ebook reader

RockPusher: My favourite Sierra point-and-click joke is still being able to raise your lockpicking skill by picking your nose in Quest for Glory
Alex_Frostfire: It'd be like an Ace Attorney game if you could go to trial while missing a piece of evidence.
j_crane330: Good afternoon you all
RockPusher: (do it too often though and you also get an aforementioned funny death)
Thefluffiestguineapig: suuuuuuuuuuuuure it is
adept_nekomancer: So some sort of space hamster.
Alex_Frostfire: (But what if I can pick my nose to unlock the secrets of my mind! ...Is it supposed to be that red?)
Thefluffiestguineapig: I often don't do those because you can't get some of those games to work

Bruceski: I think this will once again not be the year I upgrade my GTX 960 video card
DarthRagnar815: I'm glad I built my current system a year ago and not now.
accountmadeforants: I was considering building a new machine and going for 64GB instead of the 32GB I've used for every build in the past 18 years. Ha ha.
tidehollowcat: I got a Steam Deck earlier in the year and I think I'm fine just sticking with that for the foreseeable future.
Cptasparagus: its fun but in a "this is a neat sandbox" kind of way, not in a cohesive video game kind of way
Aceviru: With all the price increases, I think it's a good time to just play more indie games
accountmadeforants: https://i.imgur.com/paDzK5W.png
Bruceski: Rabbids 2 gold edition (all dlc) is currently 9 bucks
PMAvers: It was weird, I actually had the option to pay less for a game on Steam a couple of weeks ago due to a bundle, and I paid the extra two bucks since I wanted the dev to get more money.
TehAmelie: i got Unbeatable for 25, but that was a chistmas gift to myself
Wolfstrike_NL: The new light colors could stay :P
adept_nekomancer: There's the "Must have it Day 1" price, and the "Willing to wait a month" price. I don't honestly know if the expanded number of players they get from the discount price makes up for the discount. But they seem to believe the economics works.
RockPusher: A bunch of CEOs getting fired for their BS would be nice
ContingentCat: yeah a mass abandoning of gen AI would be great
Cptasparagus: The Bazaar mostly got rid of any NFT stuff, which is nice
Kentosaurus: that indie award retraction felt more like a pr stunt
Juliamon: My wish is for companies to be more fucking specific about what "AI" they're using
loufghyslaufey: Yeah, I don't know where that story went with the allegations.
accountmadeforants: Yeah that's a perfectly fine line to draw
ContingentCat: that's somewhere to be strict yeah
loufghyslaufey: So... we award gets recycled into the queue or...?

hypergirlie_hyperpop: I'm a hardliner, AI use is bad, full stop.
TehAmelie: i imagine it's going to be regulated like smoking. a punitive tax driving up prices on games that use these shortcuts to having to hire workers would be nice
Aceviru: Using a tool to help a project get moving vs using it for not doing work on it.
Thefluffiestguineapig: Which didn't exist
evelyndisaster: i dont see a problem if you just 1 person and cant use a pencil
Thefluffiestguineapig: @loufghyslaufey I think even Graham is probably going to move away from the AI games because they have been so boring
loufghyslaufey: I hear its shaped somewhat into a bubble oe something...
loufghyslaufey: *or something
ShaneLeeAtk: The same money just keeps circling the drain.
Thefluffiestguineapig: @ShaneLeeAtk Right, isn't it the same 4 or 5 companies reinvesting in themselves?
GapFiller: jlrrFacepalm
PMAvers: They should just give me the money they spend on AI. I will give them no output, which will be better output than what the AI give.
ContingentCat: This sounds like a halmark villian yeah
ShaneLeeAtk: @Thefluffiestguineapig Bingo
TheAwkes: The folks pushing generative AI (LLMs, diffusion models, and the like) are pulling every other pre-existing and emerging non-exploitative machine learning and algorithmic thing into their new definition of AI, and doing it to their advantage. It sucks a lot.
PipeSmokingOwl: hey if thats how we get the message to your "average joe" village idiot then im all for Hallmark AI villians
Thefluffiestguineapig: @PMAvers Or or or, they can give it to you and you can ask LRR to redistribute it equally among chat members and staff
ContingentCat: @PipeSmokingOwl lol I'm actually writing a novel with AI user zombies
Thefluffiestguineapig: With that amount of money they could give everyone a living wage almost
PipeSmokingOwl: sergeJustRight
RockPusher: The problem with LLMs vs Blockchain is that unlike Blockchain where there are essentially zero good use cases, LLMs actually do have some problem spaces for which they are a reasonable solution
RockPusher: but the bubble makes any nuance and rational discussion impossible right now
accountmadeforants: The fact that the calls of "this shit isn't actually making any money, let alone TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS" haven't died down is another good sign.
adept_nekomancer: My frustration is that there are actual things that AI is useful for that can be done ethically, and yet AI companies keep pushing terrible uses for it.
Thefluffiestguineapig: @RockPusher A very small and very circumstantial set of things that should be governed by heavy rules. LLMs are great for collating medical research into a searchable database
loufghyslaufey: Oh, oh! That "Olaf" anamotronic they showcased at a Disneyland?
TheAwkes: Naw, not everybody. I haven't touched the stuff and don't intend to.
Gekyouryuu: I've never used it, thankfully
Wolfstrike_NL: Mayby it can figure out how to configure the background lights to red again :P
ContingentCat: I've been encouraged to use it for cover letter writing, I hate it so much even for that
Juliamon: I didn't even know GPT was a thing until the AI backlash started.
wiganlass: I watch Stephanie sterlings best and worst 2025 games videos and their opinion on the use of ai in game design was colourful to say the least zeroleTantrum
SymphonySolstice: I maintain it should've never been released to the general public
hypergirlie_hyperpop: @Thefluffiestguineapig Assuming it doesn't make up any new entries, or corrupt any existing entries, therefore requiring a human to check it, therefore making it more efficient to have a real person do it in the first place, y'know
GapFiller: ContingentCat ohman thought been told (by my dole people) to set my cover letters (and my CV!) in comic sans was bad enough that yeh thats a whole nother lvl
ContingentCat: One of the advantages of mostly listening to music from 20+ years ago
loufghyslaufey: You show the Ai to make a point for your game news story, Yes. "Understoodsable."
adept_nekomancer: But is it an AI determining which images are AI?
Aceviru: @ContingentCat See this is why I hate that it's just inevitable. Damned if you do, damned if you don't
RockPusher: indeed, meme channels are having to contemplate if the funny cat video is real or not which is exhausting
lamina5432: a good quote I heard was " the worst part of AI is that it makes me doubt every piece of art "
Thefluffiestguineapig: @hypergirlie_hyperpop That's the point of a LLM is that it only can use the existing data set
accountmadeforants: I haven't used AI for anything personal, but we did investigate its use for some work things (literally analyzing large amounts of documents/text and summarizing that or answering questions, the thing LLMs are supposed to be good at!) - and actually cross-checking the results yielded so many mistakes that basically everyone who worked on that project now treats LLMs like the plague.
Juliamon: At no point have I intentionally used genAI, but I can't rule out the possibility of something indirect using it (like, I guess if Twitch is using it for automod, I wouldn't know)
hypergirlie_hyperpop: @Thefluffiestguineapig Have you not heard of LLM hallucinations? They're wrong about stuff constantly. Ask chatgpt to count the number of R's in "strawberry." Or anything about a field in which you're an expert.
GapFiller: dae remember that time NaNoWriMo said being anti AI was ableist and classist? good times
LRRbot: If you see something funny or particularly noteworthy, make a Clip of it! Your clip could appear in a fortnightly video or be seen at https://www.twitch.tv/loadingreadyrun/clips (Please give your clips descriptive names if you want them to be seen!)
Aceviru: @Juliamon Yeah this is what sucks. I'd need to spend way too much time researching and keeping up with stuff
hypergirlie_hyperpop: @GapFiller lol. lmao even.
Invitare: it's useful for a lot of things, but not the ones it's being marketed for
tidehollowcat: @GapFiller And now NaNoWrimo is gone
Sarah_Serinde: @hypergirlie_hyperpop Yeah I had to use it for work in my old job and no matter how hard you tried to limit what it did, it would still make stuff up constantly. It's so bad.
Thefluffiestguineapig: @hypergirlie_hyperpop I'm not meaning things like chatGPT. with the kinds of models I'm talking about the data sets are much smaller which make those kinds of errors less likely. Plus what this would do is just search the data set for a given term and present the abstracts is the idea
TheMerricat: So fun fact at least in the video production AI space, a lot of purpose built AI video generators embed watermarks in the video ala the whole "copiers add yellow dots to things you print so the police can figure which copier made it"
adept_nekomancer: LLMs get all the attention, but there are a bunch of (much more boring) statistical models that are really useful in a bunch of industries.
ContingentCat: @GapFiller uggghh I hate that argument it's so disrespectful to disabled artists
accountmadeforants: LLM and GenAI is in the same place self-driving cars were a while ago. They're *just* good enough to look like they either already work, or will work very soon. And they won't.
loufghyslaufey: It should find its market, but not EverythinG is its market
Juliamon: it's the whole "chemical vs natural" thing all over again, people want "AI-free" the same way people want "chemical-free."
PipeSmokingOwl: my use of AI has occasionaly been related to being a D&D DM..when I need to ask those "only in TTRPG" questions like "How many ducks fit in a bag of holding" or how many Arnolds are needed to pull a barge down the danube 10 miles in an hour
Thefluffiestguineapig: If you simplify the architecture of the LLM it becomes much less elegant to look at but much less error prone as well
MrSVCD: LLM don't lie, they are bullshitting. Lying needs the LLM to know what is true or false.
adept_nekomancer: @PipeSmokingOwl My "only in D&D" question I had to research for my players was "how many needles on a pine tree. I don't remember exactly how, but I remember this being a game-relevant piece of information we needed.
PipeSmokingOwl: exactly lol
Thefluffiestguineapig: Going back to archaeology for a moment, they used LLM adjacent architecture to identify similar shaped letters in thousands of scanned documents but in a KEY DIFFERENCE what they did is had a bunch of humans online also identify them to double check them
PipeSmokingOwl: its those things you type into your search and NEED to remember to put "D&D 5e" at the end or you get on a FBI list lol
ForOhForError: @adept_nekomancer as an aside, I did the math on the weight of the bag of 1000 ball bearings and it's shockingly legit
Sarah_Serinde: But you can't know whether the AI is getting that answer right, in which case why not just make up an answer instead of using the answer AI made up, since it's all fiction anyway
hypergirlie_hyperpop: <message deleted>@Juliamon I don't think that's a fair assessment at all, just because machine learning has made it into so much software doesn't mean people who are aware of that can't be upset by it.
Juliamon: LLM isn't machine learning.
TheMerricat: @Sarah_Serinde Because sometimes the bullshit machine is better at making up bullshit than you are.
RockPusher: Unionise all the things!
hypergirlie_hyperpop: <message deleted>@Juliamon No, but people say "AI" to refer to both.
Juliamon: That's my point. People are using "AI" as an umbrella term just like "chemicals."
KeytarCat: @hypergirlie_hyperpop Like GMOs!
Juliamon: And it's not helpful at all.
Thefluffiestguineapig: Hopefully we can use the laws put in place back in the late 1800's like they were intended
TheMerricat: @hypergirlie_hyperpop As others have mentioned Machine Learning != LLM which sorta makes the whole point that you were arguing against.
hypergirlie_hyperpop: <message deleted>@Juliamon And I'm saying that's wrong; people can be upset at the use of machine learning algorithms, too.
Juliamon: I don't understand your point.
ForOhForError: @Juliamon 60s-era computer science is unfortunately to blame :(
loufghyslaufey: Jenny McClue Two, when?
adept_nekomancer: @ForOhForError Some game manual author with a tabletop scale is happy you noticed their attention to detail. lrrLUL

Wolfstrike_NL: But what if we get brother and sister adventure in Hades 3?
Thefluffiestguineapig: @adept_nekomancer So Erika? Possibly?
LordZarano: Ricochet 3 from Valve, just to confuse everyone
Thefluffiestguineapig: @Wolfstrike_NL I am wondering if they venture into another pantheon
loufghyslaufey: Also, who made the 1st Jenny McClue? Come on, indie dev! Tis your time to shine!
Amentur: Pyre felt more visual novel than sports game
Invitare: Transistor remains my favourite game they've mdae
loufghyslaufey: @LordZarano Ha! Skipping the count. Practically breaking a good chunk of the "Steam Machine" internet? <(=w=)>
ForOhForError: @Thefluffiestguineapig I'm assuming that most of the charts get copy pasted between editions honestly
hypergirlie_hyperpop: <message deleted>@Juliamon You made an equivocation between "AI" (presumably here including ML tools, like those in Adobe Suite) with "chemicals" as is used to give a negative connotation to food containing, for example, artificial dyes. I'm saying those two things are not equivalent, in that "chemicals" is obviously an overbroad application of a term that means something different than what is meant by the people using it that way, where "AI" is being used correctly, and people can legitimately take umbrage wit
RockPusher: That would be a heck of a surprise
TheMerricat: Half Life X!
GapFiller: idk Heather Silksong was fine
loufghyslaufey: Gross, no
couchboyj: Valve to release a game ending in 3
creasehearst: Half-Life 3 is at least a little bit likely, as a launch title supporting the Steam Machine
Juliamon: hypergirlie_hyperpop That sounds like you're the one using "AI" wrong, then
accountmadeforants: Warframe coming out of beta
Thefluffiestguineapig: Valve needs to create more hardware for that
hypergirlie_hyperpop: <message deleted>@Juliamon okaychamp dot jpg.
Kentosaurus: this time it makes sense with the new steam machine
loufghyslaufey: Almost like they'll happen... every 3 years?
Juliamon: that was uncalled for and you know it
Invitare: I believe HL3 is mentioned at the end of Alyx no?
TheMerricat: Perhaps, now that the crew aren't talking about AI, we can move on.
RockPusher: Look, they teased us with the idea of Aperture Science in Half Life and we've been hanging on to that dream ever since
DoodlestheGreat: @Invitare Well, SOMETHING is suggested by the ending.
PipeSmokingOwl: is there a new zelda b4 or after the live action thing?
Thefluffiestguineapig: I think Portal and Half Life have taken place in the same universe for a while
TheMerricat: SPACE!!!
Valhallan597: let's do the ocean now :)

PipeSmokingOwl: @ForOhForError Zelda all dungeon rouge like? Pog
loufghyslaufey: @Thefluffiestguineapig Just Portal 3 then? Cool. Close enough. Good enough in my book.

Valhallan597: We are getting Banjo 3 yuppypNod
couchboyj: Simpsons Hit and Run 2 here we come!
MWGNZ: PogChamp pong 2
GapFiller: but no neu CheckPoint episodes just yet
ForOhForError: Frogger... uh, like 9 or whatever
JudgeShred86: Hello you sweet bearded man
Thefluffiestguineapig: @loufghyslaufey Genuinely I'm not sure, I think there is debate because when Chel reaches the surface they think it's after the Combine invasion

TheMerricat: @loufghyslaufey Portal mentions Black Mesa in the fist game. Though given the nature of the Portal games it was easy to pass it off as a joke. But then HL Episode 2 had one of the important characters visiting Portal locations in the background and that sorta cemented them being in the same universe.

Thefluffiestguineapig: @Sarah_Serinde Oh don't care about plot summary, mostly wanting to check if we are sailing the piratical seas yet
RockPusher: be better RGG
Thefluffiestguineapig: @RockPusher True
Juliamon: speaking of Avatar, the assistant at the optometrist today had a tattoo behind her ear that was either the air symbol or a triskelion and as someone who's not a dedicated Avatar fan I was too afraid to ask
Sarah_Serinde: okay yes true, sadly it's just *almost everyone* in the correct outfit
Thefluffiestguineapig: Let women dress as Ono-Michio!!
Sarah_Serinde: @Thefluffiestguineapig Oh no, we haven't changed games yet and it sounds like we have at least a few streams to go, probably more than just a few
RockPusher: Infinite Wealth does seem quite long, even before getting distracted shenanigans
Marvoleath: @Juliamon my mtg soaked brain went "huh, Triskelion does not really look similar in any of its card arts"
Thefluffiestguineapig: Ok, sounds good, thanks! And remind me to tell Ian about one of my friends who is making friends with a local murder and I turned onto the peanuts trick
Thefluffiestguineapig: @RockPusher There was quite a detour to take exams to raise stats and go do jobs
Sarah_Serinde: @RockPusher Feels normal to me, but that is based on nothing but vibes. :P There's always a lot to do and a lot of plot twists and stuff
Juliamon: Marvoleath lmao yeah no I mean https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triskelion
RockPusher: I mean, the games are meant to last a salaryman an entire year lrrBEEJ
Marvoleath: @Juliamon yea, I got there eventually :D
Marvoleath: but the first image from my brain archive was this derpy robot: https://cards.scryfall.io/large/front/a/7/a79c99e1-722a-44b6-8fa3-2be3f0c193d8.jpg?1562930328
Juliamon: (I just like spirals so I knew about triskelions before I knew about mtg)
Thefluffiestguineapig: @RockPusher And that's if you stay firmly on main plot path
Serpens77: !next
