ArtDecoSunburn: @e_bloc Not if you're ringing the plague bell too.

Thefluffiestguineapig: @LordZarano Oh yeah, more people will talk to someone in a fur suit than in a full latex/rubber suit complete with gimp mask

Kata_The_Cat: @kusinohki Scalies are a subcategory of furries.
DrLigmaPhD: Some renaissance festivals are bordrline gayer than local pride events
ArtDecoSunburn: @BrowneePointz Aren't they having a big schism now about training for members?

HadesLeprechaun: @BrowneePointz The Bristol Ren Faire is extremely good, imo

Thefluffiestguineapig: @e_bloc I won't go too in depth but horse people the best horse people will not make a horse go if it is panicking especially at a ridiculously high level of performance (see Olympic level riders who ride other people's horses to test their ability) and will just drop from an event if the horse is off. Good rescue people also won't push an animal because it might cause more damage
gnomebot1: ifish!
e_bloc: @Thefluffiestguineapig huh, I'll have to look into that for our faire...I feel like it should be documented somewhere
kusinohki: why is my brain thinking "someone said "trout a la trout" " at some point...
Thefluffiestguineapig: Or scratch a class (one specific piece) to see if the horse can handle something at a different time or lower level
e_bloc: how the tables have terned
Smurfykins: So, maybe this is the stream to ask - Im trying to organize a game night again, how do you all recommend getting people excited to try games out of the ones they are used to especially people who dont usually game?
Thefluffiestguineapig: @e_bloc I found out by asking the riders. Advertising that some people would think they are abusing the horses is my guess
Juliamon: kusinohki there's a Beej variant of Fish a la Fish
ArtDecoSunburn: @kusinohki Do you have to crumble the second trout for that recipe?
BrowneePointz: Start with shorter, quick easy to learn games @Smurfykins

Kata_The_Cat: I'm playing Twilight Imperium tomorrow. Nice casual game.
Smurfykins: yeah but im trying to work up, like if anyone knows Quacks would that be the next "level" ?
e_bloc: @Kata_The_Cat godspeed
LoadingReadyRun: @Kata_The_Cat Twilight Imperium, Flip 7 basically the same
Thefluffiestguineapig: @e_bloc At my local faire they go through rounds of testing before starting the training but people don't understand that about horses generally (even some horse people force by genetics regardless of the horse's predilections) and that at rescues sometimes an animal will get a job
MajorFrostbyte: The ol' domino problem for those that play. No matter which way to start, it always grows to the closest edge
Tiber727: Small games I recommend are Scout, Vaalbara, and Citadels.
Thefluffiestguineapig: @LoadingReadyRun Similar to all MtG mechanics being kicker
Territan: The rare and elusive foxfish!

lamina5432: I forget have they played azul on AFK?
kusinohki: @smurfykins it might be a case of rotating through new games and game they already know how to play. new games all the time sometimes overwhelm people *shrug*

Thefluffiestguineapig: @Gekyouryuu I believe it was mentioned he may have lost his wallet

Smurfykins: Um it was set collection with a sense of board presence/positioning
BrowneePointz: yea the other Be is about to visit Simu Liu's hometown
ArtDecoSunburn: @e_bloc Cycle your pine cones sounds like advice from Smokey the Bear's OCD older brother.

BrowneePointz: entirety*
Smurfykins: do you prefer brownie?
kusinohki: watched the new muppet show earlier and just realized the original came out 50 years ago...
ArtDecoSunburn: @e_bloc It still freaks me out we're a half century on from the Bicentennial. That's one-fourth the total time the Bicentennial marked.
KeytarCat: @Smurfykins Talisman might be what you're looking for? It's mostly a Go-Around-the-Board game, so it'

Smurfykins: ok o7
Tiber727: I see my group is not the only one that calls pinecones acorns.
kusinohki: pinecorns
KeytarCat: How different in purpose are pinecones and acorns?
ArtDecoSunburn: @KeytarCat Go-around-the-board with the option to add other boards in concentric patterns.
Thefluffiestguineapig: Pinecorns sounds like something from Pokemon
KeytarCat: @ArtDecoSunburn Everyone understands fractals!
AugmentingPath:

margieargie: Their range has been slowly moving northward over the last few generations for some reason
BrowneePointz: I think my favorite thing is when they were doing that experiment in Domesticating Foxes they were becoming more Canine like, and the researchers couldn't tell if that was from natural pressures or subconscious selecting from People during breeding
Tiber727: @KeytarCat Acorns make for a better throwing weapon IMO.
ArtDecoSunburn: @KeytarCat Mandelbrot plays fantasy board games!
e_bloc: is there a word for an expression you use only when it is not true
HadesLeprechaun: "everything's fine" is what people say when everything is definitely fine
Thefluffiestguineapig: @Tiber727 Pinecones fall apart super easily
BrowneePointz: Sarcasm? @e_bloc
KeytarCat: The edible is kicking in and Cam is desperately repeating "everything's fine" and I'm def feeling *something* about it
e_bloc: @BrowneePointz interesting
ArtDecoSunburn: @Thefluffiestguineapig Which is why it's weird they are such a staple of grade school craft projects. They're messy!
ProcyonFlynn:
Helpful Rascal
BrowneePointz: Robin Hood was a helpful rascal
KeytarCat: Oh hi, fluff!
Juliamon: ArtDecoSunburn So is glitter.
Thefluffiestguineapig: @ArtDecoSunburn Glitter is also a staple and that's craft herpes
Juliamon: same hat Thefluffiestguineapig
ArtDecoSunburn: @Thefluffiestguineapig I always joked about "glitterlung" being a leading ailment of first graders.
BrowneePointz: hot take from a former Stage Actor: Sequins are worse than Glitter
KeytarCat: I'm a little upset they never taught us how to paint in grade school, just how to apply paint
Juliamon: sequins will fucking cut you

BrowneePointz: and they have mass, AND somehow stick around longer than glitter
ArtDecoSunburn: @Juliamon Glittering pine cones is definitely something I did in school. (Shudders)
e_bloc: I'm more on the nothing's wicked, everything's fun part of the spectrum
BrowneePointz: I mean, Pepsi just called shot on Coke with a Polar Bear ad for Pepsi Zero that was handmade and not done by AI
ArtDecoSunburn: @Juliamon Disco Guy: "I got knifed at Studio 54 . . . by my date's dress!"
BrowneePointz: which was like a double suplex and I was honestly impressed
KeytarCat: I didn't realize until this year that watercolors could be vibrant if you layer them basically at all
e_bloc: I just learned today my left eye sees different colors than my right eye
evil_h2o_elf: @e_bloc whoaaaaa
ArtDecoSunburn: @e_bloc Unfortunately a metaphor for American society.
tyrsredritehand: Never experience unmonotized joy.
KeytarCat: @e_bloc I noticed that when I had insomnia as a kid and it's so cool!
e_bloc: @ArtDecoSunburn dang
KeytarCat: ohno
e_bloc: nice, I like a good two-game AFK
fjordsword: be surprised how often those couple extra points make the difference
BrowneePointz: I was eating some Tendies with Hot Honey to dip. The Hot Honey didn't SEEM too spicy, but I have now noticed a very sore region on my tongue lol
LoadingReadyRun: @e_bloc the second game will be faster ™
ArtDecoSunburn: Does the winner of Cascadia get to decide if the capital of independent Cascadia would be Vancouver or Seattle?
ArtDecoSunburn: @e_bloc Yes!
e_bloc: @LoadingReadyRun I think that'll actually be true this time
LordZarano: @ArtDecoSunburn Vancouver isn't even the capital of BC
BrowneePointz: Vancouver isn't even the best Vancouver in Vancouver
e_bloc: the capitals of BC are the B and the C
PharaohBender27:
@BrowneePointz That just sounds like a riddle
ArtDecoSunburn: @LordZarano I know. But new nations tend to default to new capitals, and the West Coast independence types never seem to remember existing state/province capitals.
margieargie: @LordZarano To be fair, Seattle isn't the capital of Washington either
epsilon_vee:
@e_bloc i'm tempted to say this works even if you know what the letters stand for
e_bloc:
@epsilon_vee

evil_h2o_elf: wouldn't mind scoring a bear tonight (heyo)
BrowneePointz: One Lonely Bear in the Corner? Way to call me out Matt!
BrowneePointz: *ba dum TSS*
Juliamon: !fish
LRRbot: Today's fish is Trout à la crème. Enjoy your meal.
ArtDecoSunburn: @LRRbot Ha!
Redbassist: Fish a la fish
BrowneePointz: fun fact, a group of Foxes is called a Skulk
e_bloc: just the fox, Cam
ArtDecoSunburn: @BrowneePointz Hence the connection to Reynard and the stereotype of sneaky foxes.
BrowneePointz: @ArtDecoSunburn I think that might be a chicken/egg scenario
ArtDecoSunburn: @BrowneePointz Definitely. A fox/whatever you call vulpine young scenario.
fjordsword: you also get the points for the size of the corridor as well
ArtDecoSunburn: @fjordsword Corridor sizing. Where this game intersects with "Clue" and "Castles of King Ludwig" ?
fjordsword: Please add the points for the size of your biomes as well!!!
fjordsword: NOOOOO!!!!
PharaohBender27:

fjordsword: That is not the final scores
HorusFive:

e_bloc:

margieargie: Uhhhhhhhhh... one more?
BrowneePointz: but yea looking it up the original term is An Earth of Foxes
lamina5432: the biomes give one point per the greatest set you have
e_bloc: more content is my favorite type of content
BrowneePointz: and then Skulk being a lil newer than that, (by a couple centuries) and then a Leash of Foxes being the most recent(and unfortunately tied into fox hunting)
fjordsword: So like, Matt would have had 9 points just for his Forests, THEN the bonus 3 points for having the largest
LoadingReadyRun: oops! we will score that next time
ArtDecoSunburn: @BrowneePointz Fascinating. A burrow connection.
fjordsword: @ArtDecoSunburn I like this actually lol
fjordsword: I prefer Between Two Castles to the Actual Castle of MKL game
AMillionCatsOnTypewriters: Between Two Castles is certainly up there on my list of games I want to get next, especially given some of the dynamics of my family's board game sessions.
ArtDecoSunburn: @fjordsword I hear positive things. Thanks for the recommendation.
fjordsword: Between Two Castles is one of my favorite games period, let alone large group games ... it's a really fun puzzle, and the scoring forces you two work well with both your neighbors
fjordsword: *to
PharaohBender27: Oooh, upcoming Watch+Play!
e_bloc: and the number is 3
fjordsword: as long as you can draw a straight line, no matter how far
lamina5432: that hawk is one of my fav score cards
e_bloc: can i re-rack my elk
ArtDecoSunburn: "What does the fox score?" say all the board game Tik Tokers.
AMillionCatsOnTypewriters: flexible bears
ArtDecoSunburn: @AMillionCatsOnTypewriters They woke up from hibernation in an agreeable mood.

RavenHillbrookInc: Hi. hope the board games go well
LoadingReadyRun: Hello raiding friends!
e_bloc: not sure but definitely fewer than you think
ArtDecoSunburn: @RavenHillbrookInc Things always go well when games are boarded by friendly raiders. (Rimshot)
RavenHillbrookInc: we've come for your cardboard and pictures of animals
e_bloc: my unpopular opinion is civ 7 is better than civ 6 because it has a maximum point at which the game must terminate
adept_nekomancer: In my experience, Civ 6 is a game of settling next to a volcano and then regretting that you settled next to a volcano.
RavenHillbrookInc: turn limit or an natural ending point?
ArtDecoSunburn: @RavenHillbrookInc (Raiding party staggers back to longship with chests of Pacific Northwest animal illustrations)
ArtDecoSunburn: @e_bloc I never upgraded from Civ V. I'm stubborn. I like the Art Deco interface.
Juliamon:
ArtDecoSunburn I am shocked to hear that
RavenHillbrookInc: @ArtDecoSunburn arggg we shall have the most arted walls in the 7 seas!
BrowneePointz: there's Ursus Arctos Arctos too
LordZarano: "A line of sight is a straight line from flat side to flat side of the hexagons, as pictured. A line of sight is only interrupted by the presence of another hawk" So lines of sight can go across multiple hexagons

spethycakes: @Juliamon Adam's favorite
Cptasparagus: Theres a lot of them
InconsiderateHat: @Juliamon My go-to
Juliamon: it is wrensday my dudes
DrLigmaPhD: Gibbons are lesser apes and salty about iit
BrowneePointz: also a reminder that Bear doesn't even mean Bear. it means "That brown thing we don't mention"
Thefluffiestguineapig: @Juliamon Is it also Six day?
Cptasparagus: I'm not gonna count the list by hand but theres like 100 animals that are triple-tautonyms
Juliamon: InconsiderateHat My go-to is Boops boops
Thefluffiestguineapig: Magic joeks
RavenHillbrookInc: @ArtDecoSunburn you land lovers will never understand the power of main phase 2!
KeytarCat: @BrowneePointz But now, because of the nature of language and time, it's its own root!
Cptasparagus: Botany apparently does not allow triple tautonyms
Juliamon: (because of the iconic "Boops boops in a bucket")
ArtDecoSunburn: @RavenHillbrookInc (Sobs in disrupted cardboard tableau) "Curse the scourge of the Cascadian Main!"
LordZarano: Hawk card C even pictures a line of sight going across an empty void with no tile
ArtDecoSunburn: @LordZarano Even non wargame LRR plays devolve into line of sight measurements some Wednesdays.
PharaohBender27: He's reading YOUR MIND
InconsiderateHat: @Juliamon Oh hell yeah i forgot about Boops Boops!
LordZarano:

RvLeshrac: "Watch without seeing" -The Bij of Beej
theambivalentagender: Theyre called voodoo dolls
ArtDecoSunburn: @theambivalentagender That makes me wonder. Is there a proper boardgame a bout voodoo dolls? Perhaps a worker placement about placing needles?
Juliamon: For cultural sensitivity reasons, I hope not
RavenHillbrookInc: @ArtDecoSunburn ey lads, one last treasure cruise and we can finally retire to a life of wine and riches
RvLeshrac: @ArtDecoSunburn Literally, "Voodoo Doll Game"
RvLeshrac: @RvLeshrac Though apparently Vudù comes with a little doll.
ArtDecoSunburn: @RavenHillbrookInc (Somewhere treasure hunters still seek a fabled horde of cardboard and tokens buried by the fabled Captain RavenHillbrookInc)
BrowneePointz: @ArtDecoSunburn Voodoo Dolls as depicted in Western Culture do NOT exist in actual Vodou/Vodun
RvLeshrac: At any rate, there are many vaguely "voodoo"-themed games.
ArtDecoSunburn: @RvLeshrac That sounds great.
ArtDecoSunburn: @RvLeshrac I'll BGG it. Thanks.

MaidOfCake: Is that the Mighty Moose?
BrowneePointz: I'm hoping Quandrix gets a more interesting mechanic this go around
ArtDecoSunburn: I guess "friends in Toronto" means something different for Canadians than the American joke about teenager claiming to have girlfriends/boyfriends in Toronto. "You don't know him. He's in Canada."
fjordsword: Silverquill are the theater nerds, but they're all goth
DrLigmaPhD: I'll go Silverquill. I can be meaner and gayer

RvLeshrac: Speaking of Humble, they have a physical board game bundle of some Garphill games.
ArtDecoSunburn: @LoadingReadyRun HumbleBundle secretly a cabal of assassins manipulating game celebrity death pools?
ArtDecoSunburn: Speaking of MicroProse connected, I've been replaying "Darklands" from 1992.
ArtDecoSunburn: @RvLeshrac Thanks for the tip.

ArtDecoSunburn: @thedepthandbreadthofseth Yup!
ArtDecoSunburn: @thedepthandbreadthofseth Spinoff of Pepsico.
PharaohBender27:
@glitched_goddess Geez, going for the brandname instead of generic sertraline, are we?
(I take sertraline)
BrowneePointz: to be fair, Sun Tzu wrote that after a pretty reasonably long period of peace
BrowneePointz: so the generals at the time..had NO clue how to do extended warfare
Cptasparagus: did they do the "dont strangle your son" lesson?
frank_the_great: fr?
thedepthandbreadthofseth: Right. They still have like a 5,000 exclusive beverage contract, @artdecosunburn . And Doritos locos tacos.
thedepthandbreadthofseth: 5,000 year*
e_bloc: war is the best way to solve any conflict, other than literally any other way to solve conflict
adept_nekomancer: Non-Euclidean Elk
glitched_goddess: @PharaohBender27 more for recognition lol sertraline/bupropion crew here lol
ArtDecoSunburn: @thedepthandbreadthofseth My favorite Pepsi trivia is how when they entered post-Soviet Russia in the early 1990s, due to an elaborate credit swap with the government, Pepsi briefly owned on paper a navy.
Cptasparagus:
@glitched_goddess I give my lab mice bupropion
they can be in your crew!
thedepthandbreadthofseth: @ArtDecoSunburn I mean, they literally did... I think it was mostly sold for scrap.
PharaohBender27:

Strebenherz: Bought a WHAT?
ContingentCat: Whyyyyyy
Juliamon: !sir
LRRbot: IAN!
Strebenherz: Oh
macintose: Brother, eww to epison
Juliamon: nah lrrbot Ian wouldn't buy an epson
Strebenherz: Oh he bought an epson, god why
ArtDecoSunburn: @thedepthandbreadthofseth I think that year Jane's got to rank them as the seventh-largest navy or somesuch. "The cola wars are over, boys -- Pepsi's got submarines!"
PharaohBender27: I don't even think of printers when I hear Epson - I think *scanners*
CaptainCoriale: printer tech support either takes 10 minutes or 2 hours, there is no in between
Tiber727: You know, I have an Epson printer as a Christmas present that I have yet to try using. Now I'm scared.
Juliamon: PharaohBender27 To be fair, printers nowadays tend to also be scanners
Strebenherz: Hey beej, throwing this out here, but it'd be interesting to see you go on show versions of your "I recommend you do this", like for your washer info, or printer info
e_bloc: getting old is almost as bad as the alternative
ArtDecoSunburn: @PharaohBender27 Hopefully the Canadian movie "Scanners" with exploding heads?
Cptasparagus: @Tiber727 you can use it a few times for sure. But then good luck refilling it
macintose: I bought my parents a Brother years ago. Still going strong
Cptasparagus: brother is peak
thedepthandbreadthofseth: So, is this game just funded by some PNW propaganda commission?
ArtDecoSunburn: @thedepthandbreadthofseth (Man in flannel shirt in Eugene, Oregon, steeples his fingers and grins)
Tiber727: Probably already too late to return if it comes to it. But my previous cheap HP wouldn't even load paper. It gave the most half-assed attempt and said no.
e_bloc: I'm pretty sure the first word processor I ever used to create dnd sheets was a brother
PharaohBender27: I have to deal with HP printers all the damn time at my work
BrowneePointz: Speaking of, I'd love to see Cameron GM an Age of Umbra mini campaign of Daggerheart. That Campaign Frame is 100% "Dark Souls the TTRPG but if the rules didn't suck"
macintose: lexmark now a part of xerox
Juliamon: Tiber727 Oh, an HP? You're probaby better off with the Epson
ArtDecoSunburn: I miss Big Blue. Heck, I miss Univac.
Cptasparagus: people put a LOT of effort into hacking printer cartridges
ContingentCat: I used to have a little only black HP laserjet that was great, I printed out my entire nanowrimo draft
LordZarano: "Lexmark International, Inc., a Xerox Company"
ArtDecoSunburn: Speaking of which, next week is the 80th anniversary of the ENIAC, the first electronic digital computer.

ArtDecoSunburn: @thedepthandbreadthofseth Douglas Englbart technically invented the mouse in 1968.
Tiber727: @Juliamon You know, I'm sorry for trying to go cheap on technology that has existed for decades now and should be pretty damn figured out by now.
Tiber727: I was told God invented the mouse 6,000 years ago.
lamina5432: someone needs to make an unbearable joke everytime a game plays with bears
Juliamon: yeah, the trick isn't to go cheap OR to go high-end, it's to go "whatever's a generation behind" because the bugs in that generation have been worked out
thedepthandbreadthofseth: Oh man. Remember cleaning the inside of your mouse? The compacted gunk with density of a neutron star...
Juliamon: thedepthandbreadthofseth Good news: you can still do that with trackballs!
Driosenth: fish a la creme
LoadingReadyRun: @thedepthandbreadthofseth no satisfying, though!
SkylerRingtail: Now I'm just imagining a TTRPG campaign: The Temple of the Water Bears.
thedepthandbreadthofseth: @Juliamon I prefer to keep mine off the grid, tyvm.
Juliamon: Mauled by bear, or swallowed by whale
Twilight_Spark: Man you're into some kinky shit n
thedepthandbreadthofseth: @LoadingReadyRun I wasn't making a value judgement. Just remembering the experience.
ghyllnox: Don't ask to be eaten by a bear, they leave their prey alive but partially-eaten so they're fresher longer
e_bloc: I choose the jonah solution
Juliamon: and the whale doesn't even realize it got you
Nigouki: This is turning into country mouse or city mouse
RelwinEJ: Plenty of animals near Chernobyl that get enrichment, just a certain kind

ContingentCat: Good, the universe has been made eight
PharaohBender27:

ArtDecoSunburn: @RelwinEJ Very nice pun. "Radiation, it's just like eating a lot of fiber."
Nigouki: @PharaohBender27 look, that IMAX audio effects only trailer really sells it
e_bloc: finally, an admission I can relate with
thedepthandbreadthofseth: Wait... She hasn't seen the mummy? Cleaned up Brendan Frazier in the scene where they board the riverboat is possibly the most attractive human in history.
PharaohBender27:
@Nigouki
thedepthandbreadthofseth: And I'm technically straight!
ArtDecoSunburn: @SkylerRingtail I imagine the 3d board set up would involve the GM placing Haribo gummy bears.
ArtDecoSunburn: @thedepthandbreadthofseth The halo effect of placing him next to Rachel Weisz doesn't hurt him reaching that.
thedepthandbreadthofseth: @DrLigmaPhD another fine choice
ArtDecoSunburn: Kind of like that movie that paired peak Robert Redford-Barbara Streisand in the 1970s.
ContingentCat: Yellowjackets is the only place I've seen my name
e_bloc: as an Adam, I am fairly desensetized to the phenomenon
Graham_LRR: Kathleen Kennedy has a generational run of movies she’s produced?
Yoshi_Gal: Yeah as a certified member of the weird given names club there aren't many out there doing it like me
Cptasparagus: Its a rough last name
lamina5432: I feel that
PharaohBender27: Ooof

ArtDecoSunburn: @Yoshi_Gal Hey, people like Yoshi!
thedepthandbreadthofseth: I wanna say I'm in From Dusk til Dawn and something with Nick Cage I can't fully remember.
Yoshi_Gal: @ArtDecoSunburn ahaha, no if my irl name was Yoshi I think things would have been much easier
ghyllnox:

SimGuy3k: my dad used that, and he worked for the government
PharaohBender27: My IRL first name has some . . . not so great companions. It's Jeffrey
GrathXVI: My sister works for the government, so I like saying 'good enough for government work'
SimGuy3k: though it was the FAA, so the expectations were high
e_bloc: yeah, I definitely enjoy that turn of phrase
Yoshi_Gal: But also its true, I've been Yoshi online long enough that there are definitely people irl now who only know me as Yoshi
KeytarCat: My current name is a college basketball game, by some weird coincidence
ArtDecoSunburn: @GrathXVI As someone in the government, we say it all the time.
thedepthandbreadthofseth: @e_bloc Have you gotten sick of the WhatsApp ad yet? Because I have and it's not even my name.
