Kentosaurus: Good choice, Paul
ContingentCat: Lol sounds good paul
spawnofhastur: Miniature Painting Night? No. Secret TTSF? Oh yes.
TehAmelie: zing
Mai_Andra: yeah, wouldn't "spend-thrift" imply thrifty spending?
Vinewood_OG: Killin' it, Paul!
spawnofhastur: The background music is making it a bit hard for me to hear Alex, by the way.
LoadingReadyRun: lrrPAUL I'll put the mics up a bit
Mai_Andra: dictionary confirms it's the opposite of what it would seem... "a person who spends possessions or money extravagantly or wastefully"
ContingentCat: @loadingreadyrun that's better

spawnofhastur: Did anyone here see that LazerPig has started a new video series about the T-64?

spawnofhastur: Yeah at a certain point the bottleneck is competent tankers
putz12a watched 3 consecutive streams and sparked a watch streak!
Fruan: "quantity has a quality all of its own"
e_bloc: and the answer was not at all, eventually
TheMerricat: @spawnofhastur Or just bodies you can put in them
ArtDecoSunburn: Hey, don't knock esoteric dissertation topics.
e_bloc: thats funny, I was just thinking that quote
ArtDecoSunburn: "An army marches on its stomach."
GasCityGaming: The ol' "Amry runs on its stomach"
ArtDecoSunburn: @GasCityGaming Great minds Little Corporal together.
spawnofhastur: I'm currently rereading Winston Churchill's biography of the Duke of Marlborough and it's very interesting.
spawnofhastur: Turns out ol' Winnie had a mighty fine turn of phrase
ArtDecoSunburn: @spawnofhastur Nothing like some War of the Spanish Succession bedtime reading?
gualdhar: what if we use catapults to launch the supplies?
ArtDecoSunburn: The space program of the 60s was all about making things lighter by fractions of ounces.
Vinewood_OG: Smart bombs, stupid people
TheMerricat: "The U.S. military is redesigning field rations to be significantly lighter, more compact, and more nutritious, highlighted by the 2025 introduction of the Close Combat Assault Ration (CCAR). The CCAR is 17% lighter and 39% smaller than previous rations, providing five days of sustenance to replace the older First Strike Ration."
spawnofhastur: @ArtDecoSunburn oh yeah having an edible and reading about the War of the Spanish Succession is a time
ArtDecoSunburn: @spawnofhastur Nothing like some 18th century Lacepunk.
LordZarano: There's a whole thing about "military grade" meaning very different things to the public vs to military people
spawnofhastur: Military grade, aka: produced by the lowest bidder
DigitalSeahorse: handy for fighting in the arctic
Juliamon: ArtDecoSunburn There was a post on Mastodon this week showing a photo of the wear on Curiosity's treads and a lot of people were very loudly confused by how 'thin and flimsy' they looked, and why didn't NASA make them thicker?

TheMerricat: "As the close escort and the covering cruiser forces withdrew westwards to intercept the German raiders, the merchant ships were left without escorts. The freighters were attacked by Luftwaffe aircraft and U-boats and of the 35 ships, only eleven reached their destination, delivering 70,000 long tons (71,000 t) of cargo."
DigitalSeahorse: yeah, there was so many 100s of ships sunk
ArtDecoSunburn: @Juliamon I work at the Smithsonian. Just today I was giving a tour to a Norwegian delegation. We have all the backup Mars rovers, identical to those that flew (and used to troubleshoot the ones on Mars).
spawnofhastur: you wanna know an amazing piece of WWII tech? The de Havilland Mosquito
ArtDecoSunburn: What's amazing is how much larger each generation of rover is.
Metric_Furlong: I mean, Truman's own strategic bombing survey into the effectiveness of the nuclear bombings concluded that the bombings didn't have much impact on the end of the war
e_bloc: wrapped in plastic
e_bloc: not before they make it to your car
DaxStrife: Sometimes hard to believe that there was a time when "4 years at war" was considered a long war for America. :-/
ArtDecoSunburn: I used to teach post-1945 US history courses. You always begin with Hiroshima, and you read the debates over why the bomb was used and why the war ended. The bomb was dropped more to warn the Soviets than to convince the Japanese.
Metric_Furlong: it should also be noted that most of the rhetoric around 'precenting loss of life' didn't really start getting brought up until after the war had ended
DoodlestheGreat: There was another aspect. In the Yalta Conference, Stalin promised he'd turn to attack Japan after Hitler was defeated. BUT, he didn't say he'd do it right away.
DoodlestheGreat: Manchuris, Alex. Staling attacked Manchuria.
RTwo28: I just got in the stream late, what is everyone painting?
DoodlestheGreat: STASLIN.
spawnofhastur: Just stuck my head towards my bookshelf and shouted "FIGURE THIS ONE OUT, IMMANUEL KANT!"
DoodlestheGreat: I need to stop drinking...
wedge_x: I would rec "The Most Awful Responsibility: Truman and the Secret Struggle for Control of the Atomic Age" by Alex Wellerstein. haven't gotten to it yet, but Alex is a solid source
Metric_Furlong: like, most of the defenses of the atomic bombings are better understood a cold war phenomenon to head-off criticism of the arms race imo
ArtDecoSunburn: The best is to toss two or three conflicting historical arguments at the undergrads. "What do you mean there's not a consensus on how or why the war ended?" "Well, that's history. It's messy."

Gekyouryuu: Good News: they're apparently planning to reopen Three Mile Island (yay!) Bad News: it's apparently to power a data center for Microslop (boo!)
spawnofhastur: People associate it with radium
SquareDotCube: Radium is the closest I think
ArtDecoSunburn: I tend to start with John Hersey, then bring in Paul Boyer's "By the Bomb's Early Light."
spawnofhastur: Cherenkov is blue isn't it?
DigitalSeahorse: somewhere in media decided green means radioactive
e_bloc: probably just looks right
TheMerricat: @LoadingReadyRun I would wager that the 'green glow' is a left over from when we used radium paint on everything, _THAT_ does glow green.

e_bloc: you thought naming the correct borbyous was hard
mercano82: “Conan, what is best in life?” “To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, to land your WUBRG creature before turn 5.”

RatherLargeToad: Conan the Librarian?
iPoding: (rumored 11th edition annoucement)
Gekyouryuu: Adepticon sounds like a Transformer
Manae: There's been a few BattleTech reveals. Reworked Rakshasa is a thing of beauty
TehAmelie: maybe a third transformer faction?
RatherLargeToad: I thought it was Devestator’s right leg
ggodopaste: @Manae KONTIO! Plastic Kontio!
Rhynerd: @Manae as in new model or new stats?
Manae: @Rhynerd new model
ggodopaste: @Rhynerd Model
DigitalSeahorse: speaking of birthdays it's almost mine
iPoding: reveals for 40k, 30k, old world, kill team, and AoS (and middle earth)
spawnofhastur: smesh rhet
iPoding: and underworlds
Mai_Andra: Yes, there will also be Warmachine announcements at Adepticon. Presumably something for the new dark elves, among other things.
iPoding: though, am excited for Mechanicus 2
Rhynerd: oh, I should see if Corvus Belli made any adepticon reveals yet. i know their big thing is supposed to be the dwarves for Warcrow but I think they had some Infinity stuff to tease too
HadesLeprechaun: I like that method, because then you at least end up with a decent amount of good games, even though a lot of bad stuff got made too
GirlPainting: goth evening everybody
DigitalSeahorse: indeed
DigitalSeahorse: almost all contests are spec work
e_bloc: you'll be paid in a $100 gift card to princess auto
HadesLeprechaun: like they ended up with a lot more good games than LotR did because they were a lot more hesitant to give out the IP
Vinewood_OG: Dupe. Hoodwink. Bamboozle.
Snorpenbass: I think the saddest part about Conan adaptations is that we've never seen the verbose, talkative Conan from the original stories. Dude liked to talk. Big fancy words, too.
iPoding: the real test will be if GW has learned anything from their past reveal streams, cause WOOF, some were quite rough
kristof162028: hey cam do you think there will be any news on total war warhammer 40k at the con tonight?
Rhynerd: ah, CB doesn’t do their announcement until tomorrow
Snorpenbass: GW learn? Why, next you'll say they'll stop retconning past Codexes! Balderdash and flim-flam!
e_bloc: who doesnt want a gift card to joann fabrics
DigitalSeahorse: know the benefits and drawbacks of working for exposure
iPoding: @Snorpenbass Right?!
HadesLeprechaun: the only art contests I've entered have been Halloween-time Pumpkin Carving contests with prizes
spawnofhastur: The tunes appear to have stopped
ContingentCat: And make sure you're actually getting the exposure
Snorpenbass: If I am ever asked to work for exposure I'll go to work nekkid. It's exposure! The prison time will be worth it...
GirlPainting: well, sometimes the algorythm decides that you are from now on only work for exposure and not for money anymore ^^
HadesLeprechaun: won a pumpkin carving contest for WoW and Mass Effect!

e_bloc: @Vinewood_OG :D
DigitalSeahorse: hope it isn't depressing
neisan2112: Speaking of House, the new season of the Disect Podcast just started with a season on Daft Punk.
HadesLeprechaun: there's a band that does that
GirlPainting: "In a World, where greedy cooperations try to sell plastic Miniatures to people".....dramatic reading
HadesLeprechaun: Dog Eat Dog or something?
EbDorian: surely it'll be soundtrack-esque
Mai_Andra: "Moody House" and it just plays mezzanine on loop.
JadedCynic: "You want to pay me in 'exposure'? Don't people DIE from that?"
thrythlind: I had a friend reach out to me once for a at-the-time-friend of his saying they needed writers for a project, so I wanted to negotiate commission, and friend after a moment comes back (he won't do commission), so I said royalty was a risk as niche as he was... no royalty, maybe an art exchange... nope... does he want me to write for exposure? Friend now very embarrassed and clearly relaying responses as he gets them... "he doesn't want to give anybody credit on the project either"
Vinewood_OG: They have some pretty great Diablo lo-fi on youtube. HOURS of it.
DigitalSeahorse: or game
e_bloc: I love that house originated from a black queer man in chicago
Dog_of_Myth: Ooof

Snorpenbass: I will never not giggle every time I hear what the style of music the SW cantina band plays. Now, imagine getting copyright claimed for using it, and asking them "Exactly what kind of music are you saying I used without permission?"
spawnofhastur: @thrythlind sadly that toxic person is now likely enjoying the existence of ChatGPT or Grok
Vinewood_OG: @Shadowsoflife Yeah, so you can stay a while... and listen!
Shadowsoflife: @Vinewood_OG XD
spawnofhastur: god i love minimalist music
DigitalSeahorse: this is in every hero movie and every epic adventure
Snorpenbass: This cow level goes to 11.
DigitalSeahorse: xD
ggodopaste: I gotta say, GW is going to have to go pretty hard to top Battletech's new starter box. Kontio and Hammerhead!
iPoding: I came in a bit late, what's being painted?
e_bloc: lrrWOW
DigitalSeahorse: the Sherlock Holmes like movies
wedge_x: man, a Denis Villeneuve Interstellar would have ruled
Firewhiskers: Interstellar was Nolan I thought?
iPoding: my only interest in GW models is in Admech and Skaven, other than that, could care less about a space marine :D
Vinewood_OG: F*** Blizzard with a capital F, but Diablo Lo-Fi: https://youtu.be/P3n8vT49ueg?si=SvQoMpkH5WUtzOjr
HadesLeprechaun: I don't know if they toned it down on the bluray, but yeah, man, the Interstellar soundtrack absolutely drowned out any other sound going on in the film, lol
wedge_x: @HadesLeprechaun director trademark
KeytarCat: @wedge_x That's why I don't like Nolan or Zimmer :(
virgil82: Has Alex been introduced to Agrax Earthshade?
Shadowsoflife: @Vinewood_OG Nice
Snorpenbass: So many people praise the Nolan Batman movies, but today I just cringe and wince at some of the things in them. "So, Bane is a guy from foreign lands who recruits the homeless to fight...the rich...who are depicted as the good guys. Um."
Shadowsoflife: @Shadowsoflife Also eff blizzard
HadesLeprechaun: the one cartoon episode pilot they made was AMAZING
wedge_x: Christopher Nolan: dialog should be hard to hear and Tom Hardy is always muzzled
Dog_of_Myth: Screw-on Head is great
Firewhiskers: With David Hyde Pierce
Firewhiskers: It's amazing
Snorpenbass: Professor Screw-On Head? I remember that!
DigitalSeahorse: monkey
HorusFive: Was just organizing my physical media and found my copy. It just makes me so happy
GirlPainting: @Alex, there are several painting techniques using illustration techniques like cellshading, criss cross shading or line art. it looks amazing, but takes alot of rethinking about painting miniatures in general
Gekyouryuu: OH! Cam and Alex, you might appreciate this: earlier I saw a Tumblr post where someone says "Diagetic as fuck in the club" to which someone replies "at the bar drinking one continuous shot."
Mushbie: "I am going to smoke you!"
Firewhiskers: Lucky 10,000
e_bloc: go screw yourself. "oh ok"
Dog_of_Myth: I think it's up on YouTube as well
GasCityGaming: Getting new Steel Legion maybe? they showed a bunch of drawings

iPoding: classic gw
Athelgar: I'm excited for Monstress getting picked up for a show
Juliamon: lrrLUL
Vinewood_OG: @iPoding SeemsGood
GasCityGaming: that's a venue issue, not GW to be fair.

e_bloc: otoh they definitely have money to make it work if they prioritzed it
TheMerricat: Yes but GDW's core competancy is lawsuits, and yet they still make Warhammer. Kappa
Snorpenbass: I miss the Rackham minis. So gorgeous.
spawnofhastur: BWAAAAAAAAAH
spawnofhastur: It's on MTGO!
DigitalSeahorse: uhoh
Shadowsoflife: It is?
Gekyouryuu: Dark Ritual is becoming money, apparently
spawnofhastur: with a mtgo rental account premodern is very accessible
e_bloc: I mean growing up people often cited carnival of souls as one of the worst cards ever. now its worth a few dollars
HadesLeprechaun: I think the most expensive card might still be the Squirrel Token
TheMerricat: I mean if you aren't going to get vintage cards then why even bother? just print proxies. :P
Firewhiskers: @e_bloc Whenever I hear "Carnival of Souls" I think about the film with the organ music first.
thrythlind: haven't really played magic since 2001
e_bloc: as someone downsizing their collection and has the cards from my childhood, please everyone push up the price on premodern printers
e_bloc: @Firewhiskers well I guess I do this now too
GasCityGaming: I missed it, what is it that Alex is painting?
DigitalSeahorse: I missed it too
DigitalSeahorse: what is Alex painting?
Snorpenbass: "Sproing!" Ah, this spring was created using the Don Martin method.
spawnofhastur: Premodern is the second best way to play Magic; first is your 1v1 singleton format of choice.
thedepthandbreadthofseth: In premodern, does damage still go on the stack?
spawnofhastur: no
e_bloc: god I wish
GasCityGaming: it's just old card-wise
thedepthandbreadthofseth: How about mana burn?
Firewhiskers: The less we know about what Alex is painting, the more we can make stuff up about what it might be. Schrodinger's miniature.
spawnofhastur: @thedepthandbreadthofseth also no
thedepthandbreadthofseth: Is there interrupt speed?
DigitalSeahorse: LUNA SANS?
e_bloc: bring back damage on the stack, mana burn and whatever legends rule they used at the time
GasCityGaming: current rules, old cards basically.
spawnofhastur: @thedepthandbreadthofseth 2026 magic rules, pre 8th edition cards
Snorpenbass: I'll be honest, part of me is just waiting for someone to accidentally drink from the vessel they rinse their brushes.
KeytarCat: Luna Gans. The pictures online look like the right parts
Juliamon: Gans, not Sans
DigitalSeahorse: ah
spawnofhastur: Mmm, delicious spicy water.
thedepthandbreadthofseth: @e_bloc Here here! Stuff was better before! How dare they ever change my thing!
e_bloc: okay but postmodern: cards after 8th ed, using the rules of 5th ed and filled with universal truths
KeytarCat: Cops scare the shit out of me, but they can'tmake me piss!
HadesLeprechaun: you *can* tell us what to do, but we can choose to not listen
Snorpenbass: Ah yes, the hydration police. Runs around with old-fashioned Seltzer bottles and water purification pills.
Shadowsoflife: ugh adobe ad
Vinewood_OG: @Shadowsoflife WutFace
spawnofhastur: i'm honestly kind of annoyed that i can't get my hands on my favourite brand of mineral water where i live lmao
thedepthandbreadthofseth: @Shadowsoflife What's ai designing for you today?
Shadowsoflife: @Vinewood_OG he was for acrobat too

thedepthandbreadthofseth: @7gorobei I only understood two of those words. I choose to be fine 3000 attack camels, and kindly ask that you respect my head canon.
Juliamon: And! And! Waterdeep, FINALLY
Dog_of_Myth: Will James remember to bring it this time. lrrLUL
Juliamon: Next week will be a good week
Shadowsoflife: @KeytarCat also the studio ad
Dog_of_Myth: But I am looking forward to Waterdeep. Love that game.
thrythlind: Lords of Waterdeep card game?
7gorobei: @thedepthandbreadthofseth look it is either that or i start throwing gundam character names and their double entendre at you. do you want 4vagina? because that is how you get 4vagina
Lord_Hosk: hahahaha
JKBalch: Strong return
e_bloc: abb bc
e_bloc: sure
Juliamon: it's pronounced sibr
Gekyouryuu: "that's not how you pronounce sword." "it's not? how do you pronounce it?" "sword."
ghyllnox: Go left
Lord_Hosk: So did they try to do a trip attack?
TehAmelie: remember "poise is poise?"
Snorpenbass: Now I'm having flashbacks to the Cousland kid in DA Origins. "Will you bring me back a swaaard?"
TheMerricat: Die Son Sphere?
TheMerricat: :P
e_bloc: its a vacuum silly
GasCityGaming: !findquote poise
LRRbot: Could not find any matching quotes.
Firewhiskers: Dyed Sun Sphere
e_bloc: no one in space can hear you vacuum
Snorpenbass: Dice owns fear?
Gekyouryuu: "What's a Dyson Sphere?" "Oh, it's a Yu-Gi-Oh! monster."
Gekyouryuu: not even kidding, it's one of the numbered XYZ cards
thrythlind: One of my favorite things in my first series of Monster of the Week... one of the players described his ally holding an idol and asked "What would happen if I throw this thing the monsters want through the gate they're coming through." .... My response was "I have no idea, let's roll weird to find out." .... Spoiler: The dice deemed that was a BAD idea
Gekyouryuu: Number 9: Dyson Sphere
e_bloc: dyson's fear
Gekyouryuu: and it has an upgraded form: Number C9: Chaos Dyson Sphere
ErynTzun: I get a lot of people who cannot pronounce this name. Clue - have you watched FarScape? or know how to pronounce the name of the author of the art of war?
TehAmelie: "a ball containing the sun in order to harness its full energy output" seems a pretty straightforward explanation
Juliamon: DBZ Abridged is inspired by it
Metric_Furlong: YGO abridged is like the thing that invented 'abridged series'
Gekyouryuu: Yu-Gi-Oh! Abridged was the FIRST Abridged series, and the guy behind it was cast as Frieza in DBZA, but Team Four Star is NOT the YGOA people
ArtDecoSunburn: @Juliamon Wait, is next week Waterdeep?
RatherLargeToad: I think they did the recent Sailor Moon abridged
Juliamon: ArtDecoSunburn Yeah!!
ArtDecoSunburn: Huzzah!

TehAmelie: FF7 abridged never was a big success from what i can tell, based just on how rarely it comes up here despite the LRR connection
Juliamon: Some of the early YGOTAS had some *real* off-colour jokes
ladyjessica: sailor moon abridged is so good
colonelkreiner: Loving their new Toonami abridged starting win Sailor Moon
Lord_Hosk: "They lost work because of the show" - Alex an authority on the subject
DaxStrife: Her was the voice for the Descriptive Audio on a few Star Wars movies for a while.
DaxStrife: *He
Gekyouryuu: I know Jason Narvy, the guy who played Skull of Bulk and Skull in Power Rangers had what was considered a VERY good audition for Buffy the Vampire Slayer but didn't get the role because he was in Power Rangers
ghyllnox: (largely)
Vinewood_OG: Squid3
ContingentCat: Not too many
Brozard: “go left”
TehAmelie: Doubleclicks taught us about the Freebird effect
Vinewood_OG: "Bring back Feed Dump" lrrBEEJ
DaxStrife: Isn't LRR's "Freebird" just Cam saying "fuck!"?
Lord_Hosk: Bring back feed dump!
Lord_Hosk: LOL
Vinewood_OG: @Lord_Hosk One brain cell to rule them all!
Gekyouryuu: that was my favorite bit of Guitar Hero 2 was the loading screen going "If they ask for Freebird, they're heckling you." until you get to the end of the story and it goes "Wait, I think they're serious this time. think you can handle playing Freebird?"
Lord_Hosk highfives vinewood_og
thrythlind: Insym got his start doing all Phasmophobia and has since branched out into indie horror, horror in general, and now a few other games, with Phasmo still every Monday... so he managed to expand past his one game
ghyllnox: Oh dear
Snorpenbass: I think the weirdest experience I've had with aviation is finding out that an old friend of my uncle was a test pilot for Saab Tunnan. Which as also known as "the flying coffin" among Swedish pilots.
DigitalSeahorse: katesEyes
Firewhiskers: There once was a sphere they called Dyson / Which was filled with a number of bison / But so many were loose in / They started a-fusin' / And created a massive bovine sun. \ I'm sorry this took so long to write.
KeytarCat: Maybe it didn't do nothing, but maybe it din't do nothin'
e_bloc: my favorite thing i learned of recently was the development of nuclear depth charges
ArtDecoSunburn: @Firewhiskers I appreciate it.
Strebenherz: WHAT
ghyllnox: Yoink!
DigitalSeahorse: sciantWeDidThat
MTigress: lol
e_bloc: the balls on that man
DigitalSeahorse: sciantSciantsbubble
e_bloc: I didnt know they innovated graphing calculators
DigitalSeahorse: sciantHornet
gsyhiap: That's almost as bad as the time a kid brought an unexploded anti-tank into my primary school for history class.
gsyhiap: *anti-tank shell
gsyhiap: The bomb squad dealt with it, but that was an eventful day
wedge_x: we did that in B-47's... until they started finding cracks in the wing spars
rosesmcgee: What's a low yield between friends?
DigitalSeahorse: mocomaSQUASH da bawls
e_bloc: where is your whimsy
iPoding: I'm not sure what GW did to piss off all the audio engineers in existance, but whatever it was i'm sure it was serious
LoadingReadyRun: @iPoding their still not going?
TehAmelie: i love xkcd's "simple words" name for a nuclear bomb, "machine for burning cities"
e_bloc: MOAB is a great name
SmashTCG: its been a while since i got any new 40k. the last time was when the lion and his specal squad came out. i still havent finished painting the specal squad yet
iPoding: @LoadingReadyRun it's real rough, in and out with audio/video, they don't seem to know how to make live audio and recorded video play at the same time
ArtDecoSunburn: Herman Kahn is relevant here.
LoadingReadyRun: @iPoding lrrAWW
SmashTCG: it takes a lot of effort for me to paint the censer
SmashTCG: the ones with billowing smoke
SmashTCG: but god they are so cool
gsyhiap: Yeah, I console myself with the fact that living down the road from the UK's nuclear research facility means I'm unlikely to notice nuclear war as I'll be within the initial blast zone.
ghyllnox: And taking it to space would also be quite noticeable
ArtDecoSunburn: That's why secret nuclear tests are fascinating. Consider the Vela Incident in the 1970s. Probably a nuke, but we're not sure.
iPoding: @LoadingReadyRun tbf, they can afford to get people that do know how to do these things, but i'm sure it would cut into executive bonus'
iPoding: @LoadingReadyRun and their reveal stream just crashed
e_bloc: classy
iPoding: @LoadingReadyRun sadly, a running trend in their reveals/annoucements
ArtDecoSunburn: Well, they did a test at Trinity. Some of them thought they might set the atmosphere on fire.
neisan2112: It really is just real alchemy.
wedge_x: just have to join the two bits of uranium really fast
DoodlestheGreat: Cordite developed 1889
I_Am_Clockwork: Cordite was inventind in the late 1880;s

CrossXhunteR: @ArtDecoSunburn well the islands wouldn't nuke themselves
epsilon_vee: spaghetti, spirals, bow ties, etc.
ArtDecoSunburn: @CrossXhunteR Not with that attitude!
TehAmelie: hi jacqui! i'm pretty good
e_bloc: @wedge_x yes, thank you!
jacqui_lantern234: @TehAmelie glad to hear ^_^
ArtDecoSunburn: The Soviets and the Chinese preferred nuking caverns in their vast empty interiors.
ErynTzun: @CrossXhunteR Can't have anything nice
TehAmelie: thinking of that one nuke they tested in a drill hole. . .what was the weight of that lid they shot into space?
CrossXhunteR: unrelated to much of anything going on besides alex being hear, but i just watched an old vlog the other day where graham and alex shot guns for the first time in vegas. it was very much the same as the one time i went to a shooting range. so unbelievably loud. the loudest thing i've ever experienced, and you feel it
GasCityGaming: sick new Sisters of Battle Model announced
ErynTzun: It has no eye for art, and cannot be critical of itself and incrementally fix it.
LRRbot: If you see something funny or particularly noteworthy, make a Clip of it! Your clip could appear in a fortnightly video or be seen at https://www.twitch.tv/loadingreadyrun/clips (Please give your clips descriptive names if you want them to be seen!)
ErynTzun: I take several hours to draw something, but then I'm going to come back the next day and look at it again and find things wrong and go back to fix them.
ArtDecoSunburn: @ErynTzun True. Iteration is not the same as reflection.
iPoding: new PVPVE Kill Team box/mode
e_bloc: could just be a masochist
Strebenherz: YES, this!
TehAmelie: i like to think of intentionality in art. like how many thousands of decisions are you two making right now, and how many does an AI sloperator make in a painting?
neisan2112: Truueee, I had to do that at work today for someone else, and I dont' work in IT, I'm in the business office.
putz12a: To be fair, as someone that works in IT, Googling is also a skill that a lot of people just lack
neisan2112: Also true, and Google themselves hasn't helped either
GasCityGaming: @putz12a i said this all the time in IT
ArtDecoSunburn: Back in the 1960s, it was assumed "electronic brains" would eventually do all toilsome work. People would eventually only work ten hours a week, and the computers would free us up to make art. Now we instead work 60 hours with side gigs, and the machines are the ones creating art.
DigitalSeahorse: many creative decisions
TehAmelie: many intuitive decisions if you have a lot of training, but still
ErynTzun: Working in a business office kind of stinks, because most people are not tech savvy or e-mail savvy. They don't even know how to title e-mails with account names and numbers, or @ someone in the opening line of the e-mail.
neisan2112: @ArtDecoSunburn And you're just expected to do more cus "you can get all that done faster now"
e_bloc: then my poop is art
DigitalSeahorse: dukBless
ArtDecoSunburn: @neisan2112 See the "mythical man hour" of the 1970s.
Juliamon: Even art I don't like, I still can understand and respect.
DigitalSeahorse: feliciaBanana
ArtDecoSunburn: @e_bloc I'm sure we could find some museum willing to display it.
UnknownFriday: Exactly my experience with Marcel Duchamp's "Fountain"
e_bloc: @ArtDecoSunburn I presume in Germany
Vinewood_OG: The Banksy that shredded itself.
LordZarano: "The conscious production or arrangement of sounds, colours, forms, movements, or other elements in a manner that affects the senses and emotions, usually specifically the production of the beautiful in a graphic or plastic medium." - wiktionary
ArtDecoSunburn: @e_bloc Without a doubt. Bidding war between galleries in Berlin and Cologne.
ContingentCat: Fountain by Duchamp is the yrinal
Gekyouryuu: Alex, I JUST saw a screenshot of a tweet going "it's all just art. "porn" is just art that makes you horny, in precisely the way "horror" is art that makes you scared, and "metroidvania" is art that makes you write video essays."
e_bloc: its nice when people tell you who you are
ContingentCat: *urinal
e_bloc: *who they are
Lord_Hosk: Wasn't the original Urinal lost and they replaced it with another Unrinal?
ArtDecoSunburn: @e_bloc I guess true art (and maybe poop?) tells both who you and they are.
e_bloc: its mixed media
iPoding: like drag makeup vs "normal" makeup
DigitalSeahorse: katesPosh katesBelt katesSteer
ContingentCat: I love that scene
ErynTzun: If they let AI do my job a lot of government and large businesses would be really pissed that the machine was deciding they couldn't buy telecom equipment because they didn't pay their previous equipment invoice within payment terms because it was following the rules exactly. It knows no nuances like - government shutdown - nobody's there to pay for this COW or these 500 Samsung's that were ordered.
TehAmelie: is the original design of a cybertruck (that could never have physically been built) art?
DigitalSeahorse: you're wearing pantone coka cola red
iPoding: weirdly enough, the live action Cruella movie showed a decent aspect of the high fashion art industry
e_bloc: art is harder than most real jobs
iPoding: i was surprised it wasn't horrid
e_bloc: "real jobs"
tiltyhouse: Okay, but has Alex seen the Nissan Versa backup camera image?
Manae: As an engineer, nothing has been more infuriating at my job the past two years then a bunch of business majors with no sense or respect for design rebranding everything and even usurping my design decisions
ArtDecoSunburn: @TehAmelie The original design of the cybertruck eerily mimics a particular riot police wagon Elon Musk would have seen as a child in South Africa driving to crack down on black settlements.
TehAmelie: yikes
Snorpenbass: I had to suffer through a class in using AI at a job trial I had, and luckily it was all just slideshows and presentations. But they did specify that they were "safeguarding low skill jobs" against AI. One of those low skill jobs? CEO.
Lysander_salamander: hello everyone!
ArtDecoSunburn: @TehAmelie There's a "Slate" article on it.
ArtDecoSunburn: My favorite example of relative wealth -- the average convenience store has greater caloric abundance and variety than the richest king's larder of the Middle Ages.
TehAmelie: i just read about a bird that was recorded singing at a volume too low for any birds to hear it. just singing to itself
neisan2112: I was JUST hearing about that video a couple days ago
jacqui_lantern234: im not sure if its a good thing or bad thing that i STILL reference that vid, alex :P
e_bloc: could just be some old-fashioned aphasia
Snorpenbass: "Grog say Thag make cave paintings. Thag not paid in mammoth tusks like Ugg wheel-maker." "Thag say Grog has head up rectum." "Grog say Thag is rude and should be glad to work for exposure."
jacqui_lantern234: omfg Alex 🤣
DigitalSeahorse: birds do find colours for their wooee's nests
Lysander_salamander: what minis are being painted today?
DigitalSeahorse: looks sweet!
ErynTzun: @ArtDecoSunburn Oof, so ugly in more ways than one.
DigitalSeahorse: dukAww raregaLook
Juliamon: Lysander_salamander Imperial storm troopers for Cameron, Luna Gans for Alex
Lysander_salamander: neat
ArtDecoSunburn: @Snorpenbass (Glorg comes in from Deloitte cave and suggests tribe fire everyone for "synergy" )
Julian_Rogue: How's chat? how's the painters?
Snorpenbass: :D
Juliamon: also occurring: interesting philosophical musings, discussion of nuclear explosions (and their development), and a small segment of chat watching GW's stream fail
Snorpenbass: Chat is perfectly normal, everything is fine. We're all fine here. ...how're you?
e_bloc: @ArtDecoSunburn just recently at work the cfo painted having someone retire will make the department 'more agile and efficient' which has never been true in the history of mankind
ArtDecoSunburn: @Juliamon Would you say a standard A-bomb or the GW stream would have the messier fallout?
LoadingReadyRun: switched the music to "funky" :p
I_Am_Clockwork: Cheer5000
Juliamon: Tough call.
e_bloc: dun du dunn dunn dun dunn
ArtDecoSunburn: @e_bloc "Let's kick out the people experience who know how to do what we do!"
Juliamon: I guess the A-bomb fallout would be more predictable
Lysander_salamander: dang
Strebenherz: oh my god
Lysander_salamander: weird gatekeepers
NotCainNorAbel: Pride500
DigitalSeahorse: "That was intentional."
Strebenherz: the ire i would have, if someone did an uhm actually after i'd put THAT much historical work in
e_bloc: Pride893 happy pride
Julian_Rogue: I missed it. what show?
Julian_Rogue: oh red dwarf
Julian_Rogue: It's back have you seen the new episodes?
DigitalSeahorse: katesPride
EdibleDragon: That’s the season with Mr. Fribbles
Lysander_salamander: Is Alex's miniature from a show?
Snorpenbass: Kryten trying to insult Rimmer and just getting electronically stuck on the first syllable will never not be funny.
Juliamon: Lysander_salamander It's technically a reissued kitbash
Lysander_salamander: ok...
Lysander_salamander: Kitbash of what/
Juliamon: so it's partially from a thing, and partially not
DigitalSeahorse: katesHrm
Snorpenbass: The best episodes with Kochanski were the ones where she was just as ridiculously silly as the others. Sadly not a lot of those.
e_bloc: likely by a man
Shadowsoflife: ugh man
SmashTCG: i should go check and see if my paints are still viable. anyone know a good way to Reset Dried up Gw paints?
DigitalSeahorse: raregaRiot
ErynTzun: Can't think of women as people or empathize with them! no never! /s
Masslost: the wax world war episode that red dwarf did was just amazing
e_bloc: american only connect or I riot
Gekyouryuu: did y'all hear they FOUND more lost episodes of classic Who a little bit ago?
Snorpenbass: The time goes backwards counter-Earth was just bizarre and still amazing. So low budget, so brilliant. Like the ending to Weird Al's "Amish Paradise" music video.
DigitalSeahorse: grippy gloves
SmashTCG: did i hear red dwarf conversation?
DigitalSeahorse: raregaJam
ErynTzun: Craig Charles is 61
GasCityGaming: OMG the Solar Auxilia are getting an Ogryn Section and they're in little jump suits and it's adorable!
gsyhiap: Robot Wars, and I also dig his radio show on BBC 6
ErynTzun: Red Dwarf Coronation Street Robot Wars Takeshi's Castle
SmashTCG: he unironically defined my idea of "punk fashion"
Snorpenbass: Most of the cast has done pretty neat things. The guy who plays Rimmer is the main impressionist/voice actor on Spitting Image.
Juliamon: RIP Rob Grant, while we're on the topic
SmashTCG: cant smeg wont smeg, yeah
DigitalSeahorse: Can't Smeg Won't Smeg
gsyhiap: @Juliamon Oh! I hadn't heard! Thank you. lrrSHINE
EdibleDragon: Cat’s actor left partway through to become Dwayne Dibley
Julian_Rogue: Thats' how I found the red green show (I live in oklahoma)
GasCityGaming: we'd get it on PBS occasionally
SmashTCG: you know i still have a every episode that was originally release on VHS, and then later dvd
SmashTCG: and not Offical VHS, Recorded vhs
Julian_Rogue: That's how I met a girlfriend in high school. wearing a doctor who shirt.
LordZarano: Kryton's actor presented Scrapheap Challenge, which was a reality/gameshow with engineers, and now has a youtube channel about electric cars
GasCityGaming: like when people recongnize my new Japan wrestling shirts lol
ErynTzun: I seem to remember seeing both Doctor Who and Red Dwarf when I was very little and not understanding wtf was going on. The problem was it was spread out so much I never saw anything in order. I really did not have command of the tv then as I was so young.
DigitalSeahorse: the box
DigitalSeahorse: a box of Britts
ErynTzun: Back when ppl might have only one tv
Snorpenbass: This reminds me of watching fan-dubbed El Hazard at an rpg convention in the early 90's before file-sharing was a big thing. Small classroom using the AV-club equipment. :D
gsyhiap: Honestly that is not the worst subscription box idea
SmashTCG: Its god some seasonal flavor of timtams and a stale Biscuit
niccus: will it brick
Juliamon: My first exposure to Red Dwarf was the novelisations, recommended to me because I was a H2G2 fan
gsyhiap: @SmashTCG Timtams? Heresy!
ArtDecoSunburn: @Snorpenbass I hope an overhead projector and transparencies were involved.
GasCityGaming: So for Adepticon my favourite are the Character models from the Armageddon supplement, y'all should check it out!
Vinewood_OG: Scrungle Prime
e_bloc: hit me with those midsummer murders
DigitalSeahorse: hate it when IPs get split up like that
Snorpenbass: Dark chocolate Timtams McFlurry.
Shadowsoflife: ?
ErynTzun: I do not miss cramming into convention rooms to watch Anime, or having to watch it on copies of copies of copies on VHS.
SmashTCG: I mean, the dvd set is prob like 50 bucks on amazon
eid010n: The DVDs had a lot of good special features iirc
Juliamon: I didn't actually see the series until I bought the DVDs
DigitalSeahorse: oh yeah, back when DVDs had features!
DigitalSeahorse: and easter eggs
ArtDecoSunburn: @e_bloc Just makes me miss "Murder, She Wrote" and Cabot Cove.
DigitalSeahorse: dukChill dukChill dukChill
Snorpenbass: @ArtDecoSunburn Nope, classic late 80's 28-inch TV and VHS.
e_bloc: oh shit I was there
e_bloc: I used to always go to the 24 hr anime club marathon at UMBC
Vinewood_OG: Analog file sharing
Snorpenbass: The best part of that con was they used the big auditorium to show Aliens Special Edition like a movie theater.
ErynTzun: I used to go to an Anime club at my friend's college, we watched Anime at a small theater room on campus. It was at the time where DVD players were still pretty expensive so they used a PS2 instead. They did not adjust the volume when changing disks >_<
ErynTzun: *discs
jacqui_lantern234: as someone who grew up on pirated anime off a 512MB usb drive, im glad those days are over :P
TehAmelie: my friend and i used to watch a tape of Cyborg 009 over and over to try and figure out what was going on. it was somewhat hampered by an atrocious dub done by one guy
SmashTCG: "you wouldnt steal a car" was something thing that i took as a challange. like "ill download pirated movies to spite your ad
DigitalSeahorse: when I watch Red Dwarf it's usually on a certain someone's discord
Snorpenbass: I remember when everyone thought DVD wouldn't beat laserdisc...
ArtDecoSunburn: @Vinewood_OG A digital playlist doesn't quite have the same charm as an analog mix tape, for sure.
Juliamon: My first time seeing Utena was as an unsubtitled recording my friend (who had been an exchange student in Japan) had taped
Vinewood_OG: "That's the devil, Bobby!"
e_bloc: faces of death
ArdCollider: Bob Flanagan.
SmashTCG: gatchi?
Lysander_salamander: Was the Maschinen Krieger model series based on just the artist's art, or is there like a book series or show?
Juliamon: Let me tell you, that's not a great way to experience Utena, but also it's a very interesting way.
Snorpenbass: One thing I don't miss from the Napster days are all the novelty songs attributed to Weird Al, no matter how out of character. Like...Al doesn't cuss. He'll have blood and gore in his songs, but no cussing.
seanmrwick: What kind of miniatures are you painting tonight?
jacqui_lantern234: "always need a weird looking guy" so who's the weird looking guy of LRR?! Kappa
ArtDecoSunburn: I mean, Coen Brothers movies are full of weird looking character actors.
Vinewood_OG: xfiles guest star, Giovanni Ribisi
ckupf: Bruce Dourif?
ErynTzun: OH yes all the early pirate sharing services screwed up a lot of downloads, had to rename everything by hand.
ContingentCat: He should be this generations Seth Green
ArtDecoSunburn: Brad Douriff.
Vinewood_OG: Brad Doriff
DigitalSeahorse: Wheeler
wedge_x: it should have been Adam Driver but we blew him up
DaxStrife: We need a new Peter Lorrie.
e_bloc: the weird actors guild
wedge_x: 65 is great, though
7gorobei: back in early 2000's there was a cheap chinese dvd player brand that had copy protection not implemented. anime fanclubs would scour low end retail stores for the exact model so they could bootleg copies of dvd from video rental stores.
DigitalSeahorse: I mean not very weird
Snorpenbass: Also, "weird-looking" is relative. Chris Hemsworth would be weird-loking in the right cast.
DigitalSeahorse: I'm thinking who acts like the weirdo well
thedepthandbreadthofseth: Was he also the Betazoid serial killer on ST: Voyager?
Lysander_salamander: nice
Vinewood_OG: lrrLUL
Vinewood_OG: @thedepthandbreadthofseth Yes, he was!
SmashTCG: i really thought you were gonna reference loss for a second there
ArtDecoSunburn: One thing 1930s and 1940s films did well was central casting. Every trope looked exactly like you would imagine the character would.
DigitalSeahorse: all of LRR is great at acting
Jovism: As someone from the UK I am offended by the mere notion of us not being ugly, I'm ugly and proud of it
jacqui_lantern234: also, since i just realized, i love Alex's hat
e_bloc: I could see Matt Smith teaching spanish
seanmrwick: @DigitalSeahorse I think LRR got me back into doing Improv acting and being funnier more naturally than trying to script being funny
thrythlind: wait but for strange little guys: Brad Dourif
TehAmelie: ha, i have a sponge brush preset in photoshop. the only preset i have but a default round one. can't beat that randomization
SmashTCG: "there are no mistakes, only happy accidents"
thedepthandbreadthofseth: I feel like Matt Smith broke out.
DigitalSeahorse: @seanmrwick I miss doing improv, I should get back into it
e_bloc: measure twice, paint once
seanmrwick: @DigitalSeahorse me too. that's what Ren faire is for
Snorpenbass: I remember as a teen being taught to stretch the watercolor paper, it made such a huge difference. So much easier to control the colors.
ArtDecoSunburn: @DigitalSeahorse Yes, and!
thedepthandbreadthofseth: David Mitchellis just your put upon social studies teacher.
DigitalSeahorse: dukPog
DigitalSeahorse: @ArtDecoSunburn and YES!
Lysander_salamander: Watercolor pencil is kind of fun. You put down the pigment, and try to plan out what the water will do to it once you apply it. There's a small window where you can push around the pigment before it sinks into the paper.
seanmrwick: If any of the LRR People have done a Renaissance faire before, it's probably one of the funniest ways to use a silly voice/accent while looking semi-ridiculous, but in a good way
SmashTCG: the classic
DigitalSeahorse: xD
jacqui_lantern234: pfft XD excellent gag
seanmrwick: @DigitalSeahorse Yes, and, Ren Faire and improv comedy helped me get the current office job I have and going through the interviews with flying colors
ErynTzun: That is a pretty common thing to dress as a time traveller
thedepthandbreadthofseth: Thats a big bang theory gag.
Uniclonus: Ah yes, the period costume. Never specified which period
e_bloc: i kinda got the ick from it because they did it in big bang
Lysander_salamander: Well,
e_bloc: what they said
Uniclonus: King of the Hill did it before Big Bang Theory
Snorpenbass: I remember a guy who hated renfaires because they got the colors wrong, so he made authentic peasant garb (brightly colorful in oranges and greens) and they threw him out for not looking realistic enough.
DigitalSeahorse: dukAww
ErynTzun: People were doing it before that show though
seanmrwick: Yeah that was a Big Bang theory gag in a early season
TehAmelie: Big Bang had some hits, it's true
thedepthandbreadthofseth: It's how they get sheldon to get over the anachronisms.
rosesmcgee: If you prefer it was also a King of the Hill gag
SmashTCG: I mean, the big bang theory was absolutely referencing the habit of doing it back in the 90s
DigitalSeahorse: uhoh
e_bloc: there were a lot of people in cow costumes when I went to renn fest this year. not sure if it was mario kart related
seanmrwick: That's why when I go to a Ren faire, I normally dress as my D&D character
thedepthandbreadthofseth: @rosesmcgee Wait, really???
bladegoosee: anyone here play trench crusade?
SmashTCG: i Personally refused to attribute ANY nerd culture to BBT
ArtDecoSunburn: @seanmrwick As a kid, I wondered why that one historical period got fairs. Why no "Dark Ages Fairs" or "Meiji Restoration Fairs" or "Edwardian Era Fairs" ?
seanmrwick: or help me get my inspiration to do another faire attire
jacqui_lantern234: @thedepthandbreadthofseth yeah, its an old gag
rosesmcgee: @thedepthandbreadthofseth The episode with Peggy working at the Renn Faire, with Alan Rickman as the King. Dale does it.
DigitalSeahorse: it reminds me of Appleseed for some reason
ErynTzun: @SmashTCG Yes we saw Doctor Who and Star trek costumes among other things
seanmrwick: @ArtDecoSunburn I don't know if it's because of popularity or other reasons I don't know
e_bloc: been there
DigitalSeahorse: yeah
e_bloc: warhammer presents junkyard wars
ArtDecoSunburn: @bladegoosee That's the one with even more intense warring Catholics than Warhammer 40K, right?
ErynTzun: our Ren Fest is too hot and muddy for me to want to wear any of my nice costumes to
DigitalSeahorse: hehe I'm glad that was me
ErynTzun: or cold and muddy
Snorpenbass: Oh, that reminds me, anyone done PatLabor kits? Love those designs.
DigitalSeahorse: dukAww
Gekyouryuu: oh, are we talking about going to renn faires dressed in Star Fleet uniforms? I saw a story once of some people doing that and one worker went "Prithee join me anon that I may confer with ye!" and then angrily whispers at them about breaking the prime directive while revealing a star fleet badge on under his clothes
Rhynerd: hell yeah appleseed mention
seanmrwick: @SmashTCG Do you think it's because of the "over-enthusiasm" of the characters
iris_of_ether: Oh, on Ren Faires, I found this article interesting, and perhaps helps to explain the inaccuracies: https://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/the-surprisingly-radical-roots-of-the-renaissance-fair-180982918/
Juliamon: I got a big Appleseed promo poster at a convention once. It's still on my wall because it's cool.
thedepthandbreadthofseth: @rosesmcgee Holy crap? Alan Rickman did King of the Hill?
neisan2112: OH I completely forgot about that! Hell yeah
seanmrwick: I think the funniest stories I remember was when I say a group at my local faire doing a Monty Python group from Holy Grail
neisan2112: We don't know when its coming out right?
rosesmcgee: @thedepthandbreadthofseth Oh yeah, was a great episode too
Morrigan9: i think so
seanmrwick: @iris_of_ether I'll take a gander at it
Lysander_salamander: They sort of used that for the second movie
DigitalSeahorse: love dolls raregaShake
AdamYMHMI: That was a standalone one, I remember it and I've never read any of it
ArtDecoSunburn: @seanmrwick People like fake medieval/early modern aesthetic without interrogating the context.
e_bloc: sounds like a detroit become human missio
Rhynerd: i’ve only seen two of the appleseed films, but they were rad!
Quentastic: @Lysander_salamander Yeh
seanmrwick: I think it might have been an episode in Standalone Complex, but I don't remember which one
seanmrwick: @ArtDecoSunburn That's fair
Metric_Furlong: yar har har, etc
neisan2112: I should rewatch that too
seanmrwick: I think it is, but I don't remember where exactly
SmashTCG: @seanmrwick More for the insulting parodic exaggerations of Stereotypes
Vinewood_OG: If it's Tubi, I will lose it.
Lysander_salamander: The second movie was pretty weird
seanmrwick: @SmashTCG That's totally fair
Lysander_salamander: It was interesting though
SmashTCG: god i cant wait for the new season
Quentastic: It was the second Oshii film
seanmrwick: I think sites like watch cartoons has it too
Lysander_salamander: it's on poob
TehAmelie: the manga sequel is pretty fascinating cause you can see about 2/3 through it when Shirow gets really into drawing porn
iris_of_ether: Oof
SmashTCG: Im SO hype for hand drawn Tachicomas
e_bloc: just renewed my subscription to bittorrent
ErynTzun: Well that at least makes sense
Uniclonus: Stand Alone Complex is indeed on Tubi
seanmrwick: I didn't see it on Tubi last i checked, but....Seven Samurai is on tubi
DigitalSeahorse: I think I might have one DVD of it somewhere I won from a drawing game at an anime con
e_bloc: that should be illegal
Snorpenbass: On Paramount, you say?Hoist the black flag!
Shadowsoflife: Ghost in the shell 2.0 is on tubi (no joke)
7gorobei: the story was used for the 2nd feature movie, sequel to the 90's mamoru oshi GitS
seanmrwick: @Uniclonus oh it is? Sweet! I'll need to rewatch it for myself
Vinewood_OG: Paramount chose violence. And setup Academy to fail.
Morrigan9: it might all be in your library
SmashTCG: Nooooooo not tubi
Juliamon: http://www.impawards.com/2005/appleseed.html this is the poster I have
thedepthandbreadthofseth: It's just worse cable now.
Lysander_salamander: Yeah, the streaming sites put the first seasons on other streaming sites as a kind of advertisement
e_bloc: now they're combining with each other to form some sort of "bundle" novel idea
seanmrwick: @Juliamon That looks sick!
Lysander_salamander: I hate it
DigitalSeahorse: ads even though you friggin pay
seanmrwick: I know the feeling, Cam
SmashTCG: they charge you, and then run ads, is the MOST fuck you
Murfburffle: Hey Alex. Master Chef Joel here
Gekyouryuu: saw something funny a week or two ago, actually, where someone said Tubi makes watching Robocop more engaging, because it'll cut from Robocop's fake ads to AI ads
DigitalSeahorse: um, no thanks
ghyllnox: Why sell you something ad-free when they could sell you something and then also show you ads?
GasCityGaming: The crave smart tv app freaking sucks.
niccus: how are there still so many streaming services when all the entertainment companies are consolidating
seanmrwick: oh god I don't remember the last time I saw Robocop

ArtDecoSunburn: @Snorpenbass It's not TV. It's not even HBO (anymore). It's Paramount now (coming soon)"
SmashTCG: I love buying my shows legally from store dot com
Snorpenbass: Remember FilmNet? I miss FilmNet. You subscribed to it, you got full movies, no ads. And they made money, because subscription services don't need fricking ads!
ErynTzun: This is why I still buy DVDs and Blu-rays and rip them myself for my server. There's no wondering where the heck certain seasons are, or being unsatisfied of the version of the tv show or movie that's there. Though there are no 'good' versions of Babylon 5, we'll never get a proper remaster.
LordZarano: There's a whole website now dedicated just to telling you what service a show is on - https://www.justwatch.com/
iris_of_ether: So in college I saw Robocop in the most thematic way possible: immediately before someone tried to Molotov our rental house. (We moved when we could)
seanmrwick: @LordZarano That's actually very helpful! Thank you for sharing this
jacqui_lantern234: yeah, i have no patience for ads anymore
Vinewood_OG: Most ads these days feel like business to business. Like Weyland-Yutani trying to sell something to OCP.
seanmrwick: Oh god, don't remind me. That reminds me of something similar, Paul. My dad and I actually were on the phone with said company for over 2 hrs
neisan2112: There's a reason "hour long" shows are actually 43-47 minutes
roastbeefsandwitch: I will *NOT* watch movies on cable for just that reason
ArtDecoSunburn: @Snorpenbass The problem is subscriptions can never make as much money as ads in the long run. The streaming economy has forgotten the lessons of Bill Paley.
ErynTzun: I really hate the AI up-scales they do of old tv it looks creepy as heck, please no.
Gekyouryuu: rights retention
Gekyouryuu: oh?
seanmrwick: Funny thing is that this reminds me of when I was watching Diners, Drive-ins and Dives and I could only watch a few seasons
TehAmelie: i'm still sad for my aunt who got rid of her 3000 movie collection when she got Netflix. they're going to have all the world's movies on there forever, they said
Vinewood_OG: Rock hair .jpeg
Lysander_salamander: Unions

Snorpenbass: @ArtDecoSunburn I mean, sure, but they didn't *lose* money either. And people didn't cancel their subscriptions every other month because of the lack of ads.
ArtDecoSunburn: @TehAmelie That is tragic.
Lysander_salamander: fecking union-dodging
JadedCynic: time to scale up that guillotine...
DigitalSeahorse: minecraft them to death!
LoadingReadyRun: @e_bloc can you be more specific?
seanmrwick: This reminds me so much of something I saw from Corridor Digital that was talking about the same issue, Alex.
ContingentCat: Yeah in Minecraft
Mai_Andra: It was painful trying to watch the first couple of seasons of Orphan Blackon BBC America (as well as whatever Doctor Who was on at the time...)
SmashTCG: lemme check what they look like now
Vinewood_OG: @LoadingReadyRun lrrLUL lrrLUL
Juliamon: Referring back to the "streamers locked into a bit' discussion, Serge doesn't really Minecraft anymore
DigitalSeahorse: raregaType
TheAinMAP: Serge has stepped away from "Minecraft" for some time now. At least on stream.
iris_of_ether: The children yearn for the giant iron block
neisan2112: Acording to GMM, he hasn't played in like a year at this point.
Julian_Rogue: I think in vanilla they're fall damage to half a heart so you can kill them for xp?

SmashTCG: I do know the most inhumane one is what people do to valuable Villager traders
LordZarano: Oh yeah that's a mod
Julian_Rogue: I exclusively play modded MC which has way more humane ways to murder large amounts of mons
e_bloc: marphS
seanmrwick: If there's anything I've learned about visual effects, I've learned from youtube from Corridor Digital and other channels that teach stuff, kind of like "masterclass"
jacqui_lantern234: gdi serge XD

Vinewood_OG: Digital Sociopath
ArtDecoSunburn: @Snorpenbass The money the networks and cable stations generated in their heyday was staggering. People talked about Ted Turner the way they talk about Musk today. John Kluge was once the richest man in the world from just bundling TV stations.
Uniclonus: Excuse me for not shedding a tear for the digital representation of a cow
DigitalSeahorse: the villager murder machines
ghyllnox: Nah your brain on some level can't tell that it's a fake thing because it acts alive
seanmrwick: Is it like the "Am I the A-hole" kind of thing?
Snorpenbass: Kung Pow's kung-fu cow is still one of the best martial arts fights on cinema.
DigitalSeahorse: I forget what he called that first one
TheWanderingNomad: What lumpy lad
JadedCynic: "if I don't hurt the fake cow, how do I stop myself from hurting the real trolls?" ;)
DigitalSeahorse: beautiful
seanmrwick: @Snorpenbass despite it being over the top cheesy, it's still funny
niccus: serge will lead us in the ai wars
Strebenherz: Paul I thought the cow milk drowning thing was a joke, that was a thing they built?

Strebenherz: Heck yeah
DigitalSeahorse: it's like an bnuy dukBanksy
TheWanderingNomad: Being late - is that a statue or for a specific game?

seanmrwick: Aren't they also called Greeblies or something?

ErynTzun: Star Wars was kit bashing wasn't it?
Snorpenbass: Jinx!
ErynTzun: oh heh
seanmrwick: @LoadingReadyRun you are definitely correct on this looking really cool
DigitalSeahorse: oh, I remember, I wanna see that when it's done!
7gorobei: MaK 3000 was originally a kitbashing thing for a japanese modeling magazine
ErynTzun: I have just heard Adam Savage talk about it so much
Lysander_salamander: I'm starting to look into this model series, and am strongly considering ordering a few of them
Shadowsoflife: @seanmrwick Yes is greeblies
SmashTCG: yeah it seems like the current mob farmer is just a flattend water tower with a "kill slot"
Vinewood_OG: "Give me 10 new ships to blow up at Wolf 359." - "Got it 10 more Miranda Class variants."
seanmrwick: I forgot that Adam Savage is super nerdy with stuff like this because he used to work in ILM years back
Athelgar: There is a chapter in Catherine Valente's The Orphan Tales titled 'The Mint' (i believe) that is wonderfully creepy, involving children in a mint and why they're there.
DigitalSeahorse: I hear peeps in another room
seanmrwick: @Shadowsoflife @Shadowsoflife thank you for confirming, I thought I was using the wrong term
e_bloc: that scene with picard and sisko was great too
Shadowsoflife: @seanmrwick Welcome
DigitalSeahorse: dukWag
Gekyouryuu: have y'all ever listened to the podcast "Wolf 359"? it's unrelated to Star Trek
Snorpenbass: One of the smartest design choices of Star Trek Online was adding in the kitbashing options for the ships you can fly.
Lysander_salamander: I need to rewatch DS9\
seanmrwick: @Shadowsoflife @Shadowsoflife I've found I'm wrong on some things sometimes with nerdy stuff like this, but that's ok
DigitalSeahorse: katesShake dukPreen

Shadowsoflife: @Lysander_salamander I'm watching it
JadedCynic: USS Grissom
seanmrwick: I've never seen DS9, but I've only seen maybe 2 episodes of Star Trek: TOS
rosesmcgee: "I was in a bad point in my life at wolf 359" - Picard, probably

Lysander_salamander: hahahaha
iris_of_ether: "Without bones, these ten gnarled hooves cannot support its weight."
ErynTzun: Is the dumpster a tesla?
seanmrwick: I'm just about to read it, Cam
Vinewood_OG: The most blue shirt coded answer. On brand.
Manae: Why is engineering separate from the saucer?
Snorpenbass: This reminds me that veterinarians are authorized to get handguns through customs.
niccus: oh there's a game for that now! Horsey Game
seanmrwick: @ErynTzun Not just a Tesla, the Tesla Cybertruck
Shadowsoflife: @Manae Right?
DigitalSeahorse: spongy dukMelt
seanmrwick: oh my god, that comic is hilarious Cam
Vinewood_OG: @Snorpenbass I have so many ships. But I NEED more!
e_bloc: oops I went to wolf 539 by mistake
Mai_Andra: Oberth looks like a scout vessel carrying a septic tank...
Strebenherz: Imagine coming to wolf 359 with your rags of a ship and getting ignored by the borg
7gorobei: is redshirt still a meme after they switched command division colors during TNG because patrick stewart looked bad in yellow?
Lysander_salamander: I think I had an Oberth Class figure once.
Lord_Hosk: They sent a Coni to Wolf 359... a Coni... it was 400 years old
seanmrwick: I just read it and right as you were describing it, I was just imagining the main character's eyes looking deadpan into a camera and saying to themselves, "I live here now...part of my life has come to this....to this....."
ErynTzun: @seanmrwick Cyberstuck Deploreans
Lysander_salamander: little mini from like, a multipack or something?
seanmrwick: @ErynTzun I call it....the poorly rendered PS1 truck
DigitalSeahorse: that was a thing in Acrtic Convoy too
Snorpenbass: @Vinewood_OG The new Vulcan science intel cruiser is just....mmmmmmmmm...

SmashTCG: when iwas a kid i thought digital camo was able to change colors like in MGS4
SmashTCG: octocamo when
e_bloc: sounds a little drab
seanmrwick: Also, for some reason, this particular model that Alex is painting reminds me a lot of the Metal slug games I used to play in my local arcade (Galloping Ghost)
ErynTzun: @seanmrwick There's another word ppl have for it, might not be appropriate for chat though.
Snorpenbass: Or do it like the ninjas in The Tick: "I am a hedge!"
DigitalSeahorse: it's too snowy here, better paint everything white
seanmrwick: @ErynTzun I have a good feeling I know which one you're talking about, and I'll keep it out of chat
ErynTzun: @seanmrwick feenNodders
e_bloc: when the ents have just completely fucking had it
iPoding: new Skaven models, so i'm happy
SmashTCG: they are trying to blend into a barbie village
TehAmelie: i just read there's a frog that camouflages itself by being almost transparent. it gets more transparent when it sleeps by hiding its blood
DigitalSeahorse: lol
LordZarano: Like a reboot of Macbeth, being attacked by the forest
protojman: Care Bears never saw them coming
GhostValv: You weren't in the Candy Land wars were you?
LoadingReadyRun: @iPoding They got it working!
SmashTCG: "gruff millitary voice1"

Mai_Andra: Sgt Slaughter
SmashTCG: "holy jesus, WHAT ARE THOOOOOES"
ErynTzun: Care bear stare TO DEATH
seanmrwick: Yes they did Paul and it's glorious
JadedCynic: he was SO GOOD in 'The Frighteners' <3
Snorpenbass: So, fun fact: In Buffy the Vampire Slayer show, Buffy mentions owning "Gwendy" dolls. Several years later, in "Small Soldiers", Sarah Michelle Gellar voiced..."Gwendy" dolls.
seanmrwick: They even did that with Darth Vader
DigitalSeahorse: begonia
DigitalSeahorse: sweet
seanmrwick: Also, they did a dub of Darth Vader with lines from Samuel L Jackson
Shadowsoflife: @Snorpenbass Neat
DaxStrife: "Simulated Sponge," that's gotta be a band name.
SmashTCG: they literaly grow out of the ground* (read ocean)
seanmrwick: I wish I was kidding, but those videos are in fact real and they're hilarious
iPoding: @LoadingReadyRun whenever they cut to the pre-recorded video audio would cut sometimes, but yah eventually they got there
Lord_Hosk: The original Pitch for the US Army's ACU uniform (the grey digital print that blended into nothing) was that they would take a Satellite photo of the region that a Unit was going to deploy to, and then print Uniforms based on the 4 most prominent colors. Then they found out how much it would cost, to print uniforms, and bags, and Body armor and and and... and decided they would just go with the demo 4 colors.
DigitalSeahorse: simulated sponge is probably better for choral reefs
seanmrwick: I need to watch that one
I_Am_Clockwork: that is very good
seanmrwick: hahaha
LordZarano: Kinda seems like that's what Marathon is. Bright colourful environments so that bright colourful armour makes sense
LRRbot: If you see something funny or particularly noteworthy, make a Clip of it! Your clip could appear in a fortnightly video or be seen at https://www.twitch.tv/loadingreadyrun/clips (Please give your clips descriptive names if you want them to be seen!)
seanmrwick: I would assume.....yes?
DigitalSeahorse: Alex's shirt is kinda patterned that way too
iPoding: my old Navy digi camo never made sense to me, had the blue ones, felt so weird as a submariner
DigitalSeahorse: a bit of tie dye
Vinewood_OG: NotLikeThis
seanmrwick: @Lord_Hosk that's......actually genius, and cost effective
e_bloc: the departmen of defense worrying about cost?
seanmrwick: So that would explain the Army digital Camo
ErynTzun: Everyone throws paint on clothes different
ravenlord_xix: come from the Warhammer stream (new edition hype) to see Cam and Alex painting :) What' being worked on tonight?
e_bloc: its like the crips and the bloods
SmashTCG: camo is usualy dependant on is most common enviroment
seanmrwick: Cause I still own a pair of those digital camo pants as my "paint pants"
rosesmcgee: @e_bloc The uniform manufacturers didn't have a strong enough lobby
7gorobei: many nations are starting to default to Multicam
e_bloc: don't need camo when you're just flying a drone
DigitalSeahorse: some camo is all pixely
iPoding: the blue/black camo for the Navy was made because it was more cost effective when we get paint on them and it's mostly grey paints so it would blend, had NOTHING to do with actual camoflauge
Athelgar: They're never see us on the deck of this carrier in our WATER camo!
seanmrwick: The more you know
JadedCynic: @rosesmcgee yeah, Raytheon, Boeing & Texas Instruments not interested in it
SmashTCG: Good game
JadedCynic: <3
SmashTCG: very reccomend
Snorpenbass: Reminds me of the reaction of both Russian and German troops to the Finnish guys hiding in the snow and sniping them. So many tall tales. :-D
seanmrwick: hahahaha
iPoding: the camoflague you wear doesn't matter on a submarine :D
Vinewood_OG: lrrLUL lrrLUL
seanmrwick: I can see it now, Cam
TehAmelie: they'll spend any amount of money on guns but not clothes eh. such zombie apocalypse prepper fanboys
JadedCynic: I still love that someone set up a model train track for that and filmed it
wedge_x: drone pov but it's still got the cop light yeah
JadedCynic: I disagree, Cam
SmashTCG: imagine getting Drone footage from the front and it has "unregistered hypercam2" on it
goombalax: drone camo thats just a QR code that links to a jpeg of a shrub
seanmrwick: I think the funniest police squad thing I remember was Leslie Nielsen in Lord of the Rings when he accidently shot Saruman in the beginning of Return of the king
JadedCynic: that looks great
iPoding: you have made progress on a model, which is more than I can say for my pile of shame

rosesmcgee: We ever getting assassins in kill team?
seanmrwick: silly question: What kind of model was Cam painting? Because it looks like either a base for The Helghast in Killzone or the guys from Jin Roh, the Wolf brigade
