ArtDecoSunburn: It's immediate.

ArtDecoSunburn: One quest completed for each agent played. If you get a mandatory quest, if has to be completed first.
kusinohki: does the one quest per turn include required quests (from intrigue cards, currently not an issue)
ArtDecoSunburn: Score as you complete.
saucemaster5000: mandatory quests count as one quest per yturn yes
betweenmyself: @BraveOthello Horror Express
ArtDecoSunburn: @kusinohki A mandatory quest has to be completed before you can complete any others. It take the quest completed slot after that agent placement.

ArtDecoSunburn: @mrverbal To the shadowy lords, all adventures are just cubes.
mrverbal: intrigue cards are so fun (except mandatory quests)
LoadingReadyRun:
how's the music volume
ArtDecoSunburn: At the end of the game, each unused cube a player has in their tavern counts as 1 VP.
ArtDecoSunburn: Volume nice.
kusinohki: tbh, I have mixed feelings about the intrigue cards. I feel like who ever gets picked on least wins... *shrug*
saucemaster5000: @mrverbal I am not a fan of "inevitable betrayal" -- lets you steal resources from another player but then they get the card themselves. Becomes a revolving door.
mrverbal: @LoadingReadyRun reasonable
lamina5432: I love worker placement games
ArtDecoSunburn: @saucemaster5000 It's thematically on point.
MrPipboy3000: the expansions are also bangers
mrverbal: @saucemaster5000 yea there are a couple which suck, but overall it's a cool idea - have half an action now and a whole (but worse) action later
darkcyril: Catching a lot of people with strays on that one Cori.
Jillexie: Worker placement and D&D
TheMerricat: @kusinohki I mean that's pretty much every game of this nature isn't it? It's 8 parts diplomacy, 2 parts luck.
RealGamerCow: It's a very well designed game imo
kusinohki: I barely remember the skull port expansion, but I think it really mixed things up
MrPipboy3000: There's 2
mrverbal: the expansion is two expansions
e_bloc: I think its also a very pleasant looking game
ArtDecoSunburn: Elegant is right, Kathleen. It's tightly composed. Just very satisfying to see it fall in place.
e_bloc: there is one. there are also two
Sorator13: There are three, IIRC!
mrverbal: the corruption expansion is very fun
ArtDecoSunburn: It's a dual expansion. Underdeep and Skulport.
Sorator13: or just two? alright
ArtDecoSunburn: I just like the base game.
roastbeefsandwitch: What an excellent game getting played! Hats off to the team (probably Ben) responsible for organizing the board game side of AFK>
ArtDecoSunburn: Yeah, making sure ongoing plot quests are adhered to is tricky.
jacqui_lantern234:
hello mutta, hello feta
mrverbal: from memory, undermountain is pretty minor - adds some squares but changes nothing. Skullport (or whichever is the corruption one) adds a real fun risk/reward mechanic
ArtDecoSunburn: You can complete a quest after placing a worker. So once you get more workers in turn 5, can complete more quests.
PharaohBender27 suddenly remembers that early-ish Panalysts episode
mrverbal: also so much fantasy slavery, which is less good
mrverbal: @ArtDecoSunburn before or after. Usually after, but sometimes before is great.
PharaohBender27:
Ahoy-hoy, @jacqui_lantern234 !
ArtDecoSunburn: And playing intrigue cards and recalling agents lets you fulfill another quest (if you can).
LoadingReadyRun: In the manual I see "Regardless of how many Agents you assign or reassign on your turn, you can complete only one Quest that turn."
mrverbal: It's one quest per action, that's what it means by "turn"
mrverbal: any time you place a worker basically
jacqui_lantern234:
@PharaohBender27 HAI NERD
kusinohki: was trying to remember. turn might be placing a worker. round is everyone taking all their actions...
Voidhawk42: @LoadingReadyRun btw, where did you get this background music? I've heard it before in the game Across the Obelisk
ArtDecoSunburn: Right, each act of assigning an agent triggers a quest completrion option. So a single placement of multiple agents (which some cards allow) still only triggers one completion opportunity.
e_bloc: mighty mighty

ArtDecoSunburn: @kusinohki Right. Rounds are equivalent to days/months and are marked by the gems. 8 total rounds. Number of turns dictated by agents for each player.
calculated_uncertainties: This all lets nope day has a distinct lack of wheel.
dougma: did Alex get his rent?
dougma: TY!
ArtDecoSunburn: Technically, each of the players are both a lord and a puppet faction (embodied by their agent colors).

calculated_uncertainties: @Sarah_Serinde Fixed. Honestly I figured it was a April fools goof
mrverbal: yea, you play it like any other intrigue card
Sarah_Serinde: Nah it's a common Twitch thing, sometimes your browser doesn't keep up with stream info changes
Juliamon: (for those who weren't earlier, they went live for LRRMTG with last night's info)
ArtDecoSunburn: Yes. She can only play it like a regular intrigue card.
Sarah_Serinde: Also what Juliamon said
PharaohBender27: Thank you for the additional context, Juliamon
Juliamon: it was unintentional but works for the day it is. Also, I forgot a word, it's fine

calculated_uncertainties: @Juliamon I was really confused since this is a different browser than lrrmtg for me!

PharaohBender27: I've seen only *one* actual April Fools joke today - from Michelle, and it actually got me for like 2 seconds
jacqui_lantern234:
id rather my agent be awake than a sleeper
ArtDecoSunburn: The board game I've been trying to develop for a few years now is "Waterdeep meets Root."
Sarah_Serinde: I enjoyed today's XKCD goof
jibkat: @jacqui_lantern234 its best to have a well rested agent
ArtDecoSunburn: Yes.
Juliamon: oh yeah xkcd was real good (except one of them definitely crashed my browser oops)
DigitalSeahorse: Prime's rights to The Pink Panther cartoon expired today, April Fools to anyone that was like me trying to watch the rest of it
ArtDecoSunburn: That's a benefit of the harbor. Yes.
mrverbal: whenever you place a worker you can complete a quest
Juliamon: the REPO gag was pretty good
Sarah_Serinde:
@Juliamon I did not wait long enough to find out if there was more to it than slowing down your browser
MrPipboy3000: Any time you place an agent you can somplete a quest
mrverbal: (worker/group of workers technically but yes)
jacqui_lantern234:
@jibkat they can do what they want on their own time
e_bloc: it was a very good bit at scryfall
saucemaster5000: every time you assign an agent you can complete a quest yes
ArtDecoSunburn: Moving a worker from the harbor gives you the same opportunity to assign an agent. So yes, you can complete a quest after that.
PharaohBender27:
@Juliamon OK checking it out and seems good
Juliamon: I also got unintentional humor from Chicken Smoothie renaming itself to Rat Shake
mrverbal: technically mandatory quests don't go in completed quests, they just go to intrigue discard. This mostly doesn't matter but it can
Sarah_Serinde: Oh I haven't seen Minecraft's thing for this year, gonna have to pester James to try it next stream if that wasn't already the plan
Dog_of_Myth:
Okay, just checked XKCD. That is great.
ArtDecoSunburn: Talke the quest with lots of points, Kathleen.
kusinohki: so who's working on a 25 pt quest??
mrverbal: oh, Kathleen has to go play eye of the beholder
Sarah_Serinde: @Dog_of_Myth It made me actually laugh more than once
fjordsword: Grab the 3rd agent tokens for everyone
ArtDecoSunburn: @mrverbal In the expansion, one of the lords is a beholder.
mrverbal:
yep
kusinohki: it's like an agricola accumulation space
ArtDecoSunburn: Round 5 -- rach player gets an extra agent.
DigitalSeahorse: wait, XKCD has "space opera" mode?!
DigitalSeahorse:

ArtDecoSunburn: Alex is the observant shadowy lord.
e_bloc: I like 27
ArtDecoSunburn: I appreciate that many of the intrigue cards give benefits to other players.
DigitalSeahorse: ehehehhehehe screensaver mode

LoadingReadyRun: @ArtDecoSunburn with how incredibly homicidally paranoid and antisocial Beholders are, it is surprising that any would want to live in a city
ArtDecoSunburn: You don't get the bonus owner benefit when you go to your own building.
MrPipboy3000: I love how its "You killed a beholder, you get 20 vp ... and 2 gold I guess."
mrverbal: I hope you enjoyed playing Eye of The Beholder one, it's a cool game
ArtDecoSunburn: @LoadingReadyRun I think the Waterdeep lore is that this beholder is a Jabba-like crime lord.
mrverbal: indeed
kusinohki: jabba like? so some ppl are beholden to the beholder??
DigitalSeahorse: XKCD never change, and by that I mean keep changing cleverly
MrPipboy3000: His name is Xanathar
jacqui_lantern234:
beholder? i hardly know 'er!!!
PharaohBender27:
@Sarah_Serinde OK took me a little while to get that the joke wasn't the comic itself, but now I've figured it out, that's funny
MrPipboy3000: @ArtDecoSunburn No, but there is a plot quest that can give you that ability
ArtDecoSunburn: @MrPipboy3000 Right. I like the little subsersions of some plot quests.
kusinohki: I like chaining quests. complete one that gives resources to use to complete another quest...
LoadingReadyRun: @ArtDecoSunburn considering that all Beholders are pretty much insane, it makes sense that one acts differently from other Beholders
ArtDecoSunburn: @kusinohki Always satisfying.
Territan: The game truly beginning has begun.
e_bloc: its time to play the game
calculated_uncertainties: @LoadingReadyRun Maybe they're all just over stimmed? All those eyes mean a lot of sensory info
Territan: It's time to start. [cue Blue Man Group]
ArtDecoSunburn: Technically white and purple cubes are worth twice that of black and orange.
kusinohki: 11 of 20 actions have been taken. now the game starts, clearly...
kusinohki: I _think_ white and purple cubes are worth 2 pts at the end and orange and black are worth 1??? (I could be wrong)
ArtDecoSunburn: "Free drinks" implies that Cori lured an adventurer to her clubhouse by offering cheap rotgut rum.
Sorator13: @kusinohki It's either that, or the purple and white are worth 1 and orange & black are worth 0.5
ArtDecoSunburn: @Sorator13 Sure.
mrverbal: @Sorator13 No, they're all worth 1 at the end - wizards and clerics are more valuable for quests but I'm nearly certain not at the end
LoadingReadyRun: my manual just says 1VP per adventurer
Sorator13: Huh. Mind makes things up! Alrighty.
ArtDecoSunburn: End game scoring is all cubes at 1 vp, coins divided by 2.
e_bloc: now we just need an industrial soundtrack to the holy wars
mrverbal: it makes sense - for the rest of the game it it's 2:1 for spellcaster value
mrverbal: but not for scoring at the end
roastbeefsandwitch: I think the game could easily go from 2 > 3 starting people if there was a bonus board to play on. As is, on the first turn, there's only 12 available spots, assuming someone makes a building. It lets you do more and have more fun overall.
ArtDecoSunburn: @mrverbal It's more the case that when accumulating cubes, white and purple are harder to come by. Their base spots give out one of each.
coriolis_storm: Yawning Portal is the best building in the game. Nice play Alex!
kusinohki: "I cast sleep on myself"
ArtDecoSunburn: @roastbeefsandwitch The expansions have extra slots.
ArtDecoSunburn: I'm not sure how the Yawning Portal works in that you send two adventurers down and two different adventurers come back.
e_bloc: I like games that hand out victory points like they're fliers for a new thai restaurant
Sorator13: @ArtDecoSunburn look, don't ask question you don't want answered
Sorator13: there is Magic afoot; you don't want to know what happens to the two you send in
e_bloc: look the yawning cloaca just didnt have the same ring to it
fjordsword: Waterdeep Harvor goes in order of the tokens in the harbor not player order
ArtDecoSunburn: THere are some intrigue cards where you do dole out quests like the lords are sitting at a table passinh online their unwanted schemes.
coriolis_storm: @artdecosunburn You’re sending an agent to get 2 adventurers of your choice. It’s quite a good return
mrverbal:
@ArtDecoSunburn if you do the maths on how much quests are worth it's a pretty linear relationship of actions to points (for actions to accumulate the relevant idiots based on base squares) so wizards are "worth more points" for quests (because as mentioned you get half as many
)
ArtDecoSunburn: @fjordsword Yup. Very important.
ArtDecoSunburn: @e_bloc That would attract a different sort of clientele, for sure.
Sorator13: Waving is a crime now?!?
e_bloc: take a rogue, leave a rogue
Lord_Hosk: @Sorator13 Only if you get caught. Nothing is a crime if you don't get caught
kusinohki: only if you wave the wrong way. like hands in the air and you don't care
ArtDecoSunburn: @coriolis_storm Mechanically, it's great. I just think it's one of the few cards where the theme doesn't quite match. So many cards are spot on theme and action.
Sorator13: @Lord_Hosk What if I target your creature? Is that a crime if I don't get caught?
ArtDecoSunburn: "acclerate plans" is a greart card.
ArtDecoSunburn: My favorite is the power that lets you use the action of already occupied buildings.
Twilight_Spark: We have lords of Waterdeep, yes. But what about Ladies of Neverwinter hmmm?
ArtDecoSunburn: @Twilight_Spark Sounds like a more aduly-oriented game.
saucemaster5000: I can't remember if it's an expansion intrigue, but I like the one that makes another player reassign one of their previously assigned agents, getting the bonus, then you get to assign anothr agent
jibkat: cyrics, classic jerk
kusinohki: going to blocked buildings is very nice if you're the lord that gets bonus points for building buildings. tend to get blocked from that space a lot...
calculated_uncertainties: @Twilight_Spark Seems like a bluffing game
ArtDecoSunburn: What did Cyric ever do to James?
jibkat: @ArtDecoSunburn one assumes a murder
saucemaster5000: oh yeh -- the builder being your secret lord can be kinda busto in the base game, this was rectified a bit with the expansions
ArtDecoSunburn: @kusinohki Yup. Especially if you pile on the building-related plot cards.
ArtDecoSunburn: @saucemaster5000 Hardest part for that lord is generating the cash to buy the buildings.
shaneandkk subscribed with Prime. They've subscribed for 79 months!
LRRbot:
Thanks for subscribing, shaneandkk! (Today's storm count: 22)
saucemaster5000: yeah but that's pretty much all the builder has to do since they end up getting bonuses for small quests while getting a ton of points for buildings
mrverbal: Also, unlikely to come up, but buildings aren't limited by the spaces on the board; each *player* can have 10, not 10 total. (it requires some specific quests, probably expansion, to ever matter)
jacqui_lantern234:
but what about the D wraiths?!
ArtDecoSunburn: @jibkat (grins) I guess in Waterdeep that's the base assumption.
ArtDecoSunburn: @mrverbal Exactly. You can make as many buildings as special circumstances allow.
ArtDecoSunburn: @saucemaster5000 Plus that building is so satisfying.
mrverbal: well you are limited to the spaces on the board....but per person, for some fucking reason
coriolis_storm: No
LoadingReadyRun: putting a building on the "second floor" of an existing building when some kind of combined benefit could be an interesting mechanic
kusinohki: I didn't even think it was limited to per person. just each person only has so many ownership markers
ArtDecoSunburn: @kusinohki Right. I don;t think it's limited at all.
ArtDecoSunburn: @LoadingReadyRun A basement would be thematics.
kusinohki: is tie breaker number of completed quests? or is there no tie breaker (don't think I've ever seen a tie, just curious)
LoadingReadyRun: @kusinohki most gold
ArtDecoSunburn: @kusinohki I think the rule book lists tie breakers.
ArtDecoSunburn: @LoadingReadyRun How fitting.
mrverbal: no infinite harbour loops confirmed
ArtDecoSunburn: @mrverbal Alas, no. But maybe in a sci-fi reskin.
ArtDecoSunburn: Did they forget to allocate the gems? Are we on Round 6 or 7?
mrverbal: @ArtDecoSunburn the FAQ says it is limited to the number of ownership tokens you have
ArtDecoSunburn: @mrverbal Hmm. Interesting.
Dog_of_Myth: Still anyone's game
mrverbal: which is 9, apparently
saucemaster5000: this game has been out long enough and was well liked enough I'm surprised there hasn't been a 2nd edition of some sort
Dog_of_Myth: Renegade Studio is doing a reprint I believe
DigitalSeahorse:

kusinohki: I thought there was a version where the cubes were replaced with meeples. I might be thinking of the clank meeples though...
mrverbal: 7 buildings have been built
ArtDecoSunburn: @mrverbal The most buildings I ever appear in a four player game was 15, owned by all four. We hit all the cards that allowed extra building construction.
e_bloc: VAR please hold for 11 minutes
fjordsword: 7 buildings are in play, so unless someone had a quest where you got to build a building, this would be round 8
jvetting83: There are third party addons for the cubes and coins.
saucemaster5000: oh yes a round was skipped -- y7 buildings have been built and no one played a thing that built another building
orrie104: You put the gems out for rounds 1 and 2 at the beginning of round 2
rammfan2394: Hello Peeps
ArtDecoSunburn: @fjordsword Great counting.
thedepthandbreadthofseth: @e_bloc move to vamp step.
LoadingReadyRun: ya, I can imagine some neat custom adventurers tokens
ArtDecoSunburn: Well, in this version of Waterdeep, a year gets nine months instead of eight.
DigitalSeahorse: this music reminds me of the tape I used for lullaby for a long while
DigitalSeahorse: all celtic tunes
ArtDecoSunburn: I appreciate that LOW has both the running score tracker and the hidden scoring at the end.
ArtDecoSunburn: And of course returning an assigned worker opens up a slot for someone else.
rammfan2394: The Hobbit comes to mind with Bilbo yelling I'm going on a adventure
LoadingReadyRun:
on the other hand, I feel that representing the adventures as featureless cubes really emphasizes how the Lords consider them totally disposable and interchangeable
ArtDecoSunburn: The game must have been playtested incedibly well -- the points among quests are quite well balanced for the resources expended.
ArtDecoSunburn: @LoadingReadyRun I love that part of it.
ArtDecoSunburn: So thematic.
Dog_of_Myth: It's fine. More Lords of Waterdeep
DigitalSeahorse:

ArtDecoSunburn: I think that's what drew me to the game despite my initial apprehension about the DnD theme.
ArtDecoSunburn: @Dog_of_Myth Exactly!
LoadingReadyRun:
according to the Lords of Waterdeep, adventurers are fungible
Sogheim: but those vampires were upstanding members of the community
ArtDecoSunburn: These Lords are so devious, they have warped space and time itself in order to faciliate their schemes. They manifested an extra turn.
mrverbal: @ArtDecoSunburn there's a formula you can work out - I think you expend 1 action worth of resources for very 2.5 VP slash action worth of rewards
e_bloc: look it's probably Gale's fault, we were all thinking it
mrverbal: which makes the bigger quests more efficient
ArtDecoSunburn: @LoadingReadyRun Some tech bro is developing NFAs, non-fungible adventurers.
ArtDecoSunburn: @mrverbal Somebody showed me a spreadsheet on BoardGameGeek once.
mrverbal: Non-fungus adventurers (they are clearly made of moss)
Sogheim: does that mean no orks? orks are fungus, right? or wrong universe?
thedepthandbreadthofseth:
@Dog_of_Myth You! YOU gifted me a sub! You... *shakes fist* nice person.
saucemaster5000: yeah I've unfortunately played this game enough I start counting what the vp cost is of not keeping adventurers/money vs completing a quest including the points for my lord bonus
kusinohki: bad thought - bored monkey class...
ArtDecoSunburn: @mrverbal I'd watch an adventure set on a world of all peat moss.
Dog_of_Myth:
@ArtDecoSunburn That's Myconid racism.

DigitalSeahorse: reward for quest, getting different quest music
ArtDecoSunburn: @kusinohki "We have a dungeon-delving quota for this quarter, Dave. You and Thrognar need to pump up the numbers for the shareholders."
kusinohki: weird thought - the unemployment lady from history of the world - "did you kill any goblins this week? have you tried to kill any goblins this week?"
ArtDecoSunburn: So we got a building each turn, for eight total? (or eight for nine turns)

look, Cori, if you didn't want someone else to use the building, you shouldn't have paid for it
Dog_of_Myth: ORB
Lord_Hosk: Remember kids, always get consent before you play with the Magisters orb

ArtDecoSunburn: I feel like fantasy realms have largely orb-based economies.

LoadingReadyRun:
I wonder if you could play this game over several days at a convention and have other tables of D&D actually running the Quests with the results affecting the Waterdeep game
ArtDecoSunburn: Yeah, only one agent per slot in the harbor. Now the same plsayer can occupy all three of those slots.
LoadingReadyRun: @ArtDecoSunburn pokemon, too
PharaohBender27: @LoadingReadyRun That sounds like a LOT of logistics
Dog_of_Myth: @LoadingReadyRun I bet you could
roastbeefsandwitch: @LoadingReadyRun That describes how the original L5R structured itself. The results of the card game influenced the main plot written into the RPG
PharaohBender27: "Sorry, the table doing X Quest is still going"
Mr_Bitterness: @ArtDecoSunburn I was thinking the same player can put multiple agents in the Harbor. My friend always camps it
ArtDecoSunburn: @LoadingReadyRun Layers within layers. I'd love to see a phalanx of gamemasters dishing out adventures based on cards drawn in the central table with LOW.
LoadingReadyRun: @roastbeefsandwitch neat!
Lord_Hosk: That sounds like a Gen Con event waiting to happen. Its going to either be the most amazing thing ever, or a complete disaster. Like everything at Gencon
kusinohki: the owner of a game store I used to frequent won a tournament and got on a L5R card...
ArtDecoSunburn: @Mr_Bitterness You totally can. The risk is you get to pick last and have to reassign your agents to the leftovers.
Manae: They already sent a Canadian to space today
kusinohki: or was it 7th sea?? (stupid memory)
roastbeefsandwitch: @Manae I saw! It was awesome.
ArtDecoSunburn: Plus, you have to have an intrigue card to assign an agent to the harbor.
Dog_of_Myth:
@Lord_Hosk I want to disagree but you are so right.
Usually it's pretty great though.
DigitalSeahorse: @Manae they did!

ArtDecoSunburn: @Mr_Bitterness Especiallly since they are inecentivized to go for the big point value quests.

Lord_Hosk: Implying I normally lie?
PMAvers: it *would* be funny if Wheeler had gotten one with five real dollars in it.
Sorator13: "here's an egg that may or may not contain $5"
Lady_hosk: Implying there are a lot of group projects that we give each other credit for
Simonark: I think that for every three statements Lord Hosk tells two truths and a lie, unless spoken in rhyme, when it's three of every four lines in the couplet.

TastyGagh: @Lord_Hosk plans to pick a favorite bug
PharaohBender27: @TastyGagh Hm, interesting question. I would be tempted to say cockroach for meatiness, but I worry that might be too big for a frog to eat
Mr_Bitterness: the Circus of Vaaaalueeee
ArtDecoSunburn: @TastyGagh I feel like I'd appreciate a variety, for different moods. "Some days you feel like gnats."
TastyGagh: @PharaohBender27 who told you to eat them? cockroach is a good bug though
TastyGagh: @ArtDecoSunburn gnats is a good bug
ArtDecoSunburn: @LoadingReadyRun You didn't get the memo?
PharaohBender27: @TastyGagh My bad, I definitely made some assumptions about what "favorite" meant there
e_bloc: great + great = great
e_bloc: not always but definitely there
PharaohBender27: Though also - could frogs eat mosquitos? A mosquito-eating frog would be very useful, IMO
saucemaster5000: I want a frog eating mosquito
saucemaster5000: for evil
Territan: Please do not eat the fuzzy Cheez-Its.
BraveOthello: Dang it now I want Cheez-its
TastyGagh: idk, I don't concern myself with what kinds of frogs would be useful, just with what bugs would be favorites
PharaohBender27: @saucemaster5000 Remind me to never let you near any machine that might gigantify an insect
saucemaster5000: look, my teleporter would've been perfectly fine if the bug didn't get in there!

DigitalSeahorse:

Dog_of_Myth: Playing as the masked lords of waterdeep
ArtDecoSunburn: I honestly don't know what happens if you run out of a color of cube. If someone hires all 50 rogues, does that mean no one else can?
e_bloc: is James consoling himself
Lysander_salamander: oh, interesting
Lysander_salamander: Is Waterdeep sort of like, fantasy-Venice?
ArtDecoSunburn: @Lysander_salamander The guys who hire adventurers for their own shady ends. The adventures are expendable, interchangeable pawns.
kusinohki: I assume cubes are unlimited. have to use a substitute. never seen it come close to happening...
saucemaster5000: yeh I've played ythe 6 player version, never seen it happen
ArtDecoSunburn: @Lysander_salamander Merchant city with a nebulous group of ananymous powerbrokers running things.
Lord_Hosk: I know in Monopoly thats a great strat. Get 4 houses on each of your properties and don't upgrade to motels so the other players can't build houses.
kusinohki: water deep is a somewhat famous harbor town in DnD. One of the Dice Friends campaigns (dragon's orders) took place there
e_bloc: @Lord_Hosk doesnt Monopoly make other people hate you enough already?
BraveOthello: Behold! A man!
ArtDecoSunburn: @kusinohki Neither have I. Presumably cube hoarding is not a strategy, like with houses in Monopoly. 4
LoadingReadyRun: is Waterdeep the largest city in the Forgotten Realms?
adept_nekomancer: @Lord_Hosk So even in board games housing shortages are a thing.
ArtDecoSunburn: @Lord_Hosk Just what I was thinking og.
Lord_Hosk: @e_bloc thats the intended purpose of the game. Hate monopolists and landlords
PharaohBender27: @e_bloc Well unless it's Monopoly for Millennials, in which case the players unite in hatred against the designers of that variant
e_bloc: @Lord_Hosk that is a very good point
ArtDecoSunburn: @LoadingReadyRun Certainly the most mapped in supplements. It got a famous citybook box in the 1990s.
e_bloc: also hate large corporations who steal games from women
DigitalSeahorse: xylitol
Lysander_salamander: Ah, so sort of like a condensed version of those adventure-fantasy cities prominent in older fantasy novels. Like Fafrd and the Grey Mouser, or the Thieves World shared universe.
Sorator13: or xylitol, yeah
e_bloc: I am running low on hellstar
BraveOthello: Xantham is an emulsifier IIRC
ArtDecoSunburn: @adept_nekomancer Who new NIMNYism came even to Baltic Avenue.
JadedCynic: @e_bloc not to mention completely miss the message of "The Landlord's Game" and give generations of people mixed messages
e_bloc: somewhere, Cameron shudders
Lord_Hosk: Your have a Tenant named Lou
ArtDecoSunburn: Recruiting the Lt. is great.
Sorator13: He's a person who rents your bathroom
Sorator13: A loo tenant
DigitalSeahorse: xylitol is the good sweetener that helps teeth
e_bloc: @JadedCynic in a sense, its nice to know corporations have always been evil pieces of crap
PharaohBender27: OK where did "Leftenant" for "Lieutenant" come from?
ArtDecoSunburn: @Sorator13 That's some sad housing. (flushes)
Lord_Hosk: @PharaohBender27 English Accents pronouncing French... Sort of
LoadingReadyRun: @PharaohBender27 UK vs US pronunciation
ArtDecoSunburn: @Lysander_salamander Right. Generic fantasy city, and generations of DnD writers have made it a very detailed place, with many recurring and beloved characters.
ArtDecoSunburn: I remember musing that "confront the Xanathar" could be reimagined as "host an intervention for the Xanathar."
e_bloc: do not google purple problem
Lysander_salamander: Weirdly, I don't think any of the novels I read were set in Waterdeep.
e_bloc: but do consult a doctor if you have a purple problem
LoadingReadyRun: "Xanathar we're all here because we care--" *everyone is disintegrated*
Dog_of_Myth: @ArtDecoSunburn Have an intervention for a Beholder would be a sight to see.
Lysander_salamander: Wait hang on. Is the newest DnD movie set in Waterdeep?
ArtDecoSunburn: @e_bloc There's an Undermountain that sometimes shows up in dungeon-delving fiction.
Dog_of_Myth: Yes
BraveOthello: So what do you call a fantasy adventure from Canada's French speaking province? A Quebequestor!
Dog_of_Myth: It was set in Waterdeep
Lysander_salamander: I should watch the rest of that movie
DigitalSeahorse: lullaby is working
Dog_of_Myth: @Lysander_salamander It's a fun movie
ArtDecoSunburn: @LoadingReadyRun See, that's the sign of someone who needed help earlier. Disentigrating your friends is a cry for help.
Lysander_salamander: @BraveOthello that was a good joke
LoadingReadyRun: @ArtDecoSunburn a "cry for help" does definitely happen
BraveOthello: "Help it's a beholder" *zap*
ArtDecoSunburn: @Dog_of_Myth I appreciate puns with depth and perception even if the subject monster has neither.
Lord_Hosk: The most interesting thing to me about DnD history is that "the Forgotten Realms" was originally just a term refering to "every campaign that people play in" why haven't your characters in one campaign heard of the epic adventures from a previous one? "they happened in realms long forgotten" then they started putting books and modules into a coalescing "forgotten realms" setting, that is now clearly remembered.

ArtDecoSunburn: @LoadingReadyRun Historians would truthfully love that. Give me a paper trail anyday.
PharaohBender27: @ArtDecoSunburn Look the great fire of [year] is why so much was forgotten. A tragedy, yes, but not much we can do about that.
Sogheim: @BraveOthello explosive runes in a fireproof tome sounds amazing
DigitalSeahorse:

ArtDecoSunburn: Now why did they have to hide Loth's temple? Where they embarrased?
CaptainSpam: @ArtDecoSunburn Loth is just shy.
ArtDecoSunburn: @PharaohBender27 Sounds like propaganda from Mrs. O'Leary's cow to me.
ArtDecoSunburn: @CaptainSpam I can introduce him to a beholder in recovery who needs some new friends.
PharaohBender27: @ArtDecoSunburn I'm going to just assume you were being ironic there given that that whole story was essentially made up
BraveOthello: Lolth is anything but shy, just hard to get past all the legs
ArtDecoSunburn: (grins) Aren't all stories made up, to an extent?
BraveOthello: Words are made up
BraveOthello: What's even real
ArtDecoSunburn: James's LT. allows him to complete an extra quest above the others if he has the means to do so.
BraveOthello: Heck, we're perceiving a version of reality that happened so where between 1/10th of a second and 13.7 billion years ago ...
BraveOthello: I should go to bed
ArtDecoSunburn: @BraveOthello Hey, nothing wrong with some "big history."
e_bloc: you dont have to believe in buildings, they believe in you
PharaohBender27: @ArtDecoSunburn I am a bit too toasted to really get into this, but I'll just say that the O'Leary story capitalized on the same sorts of bigotry that people pushing narratives to justify monstrous actions are using
ArtDecoSunburn: @e_bloc Sounds like something a self-actualization architectural cult would promote. A true pyramid scheme.
MalikaiTheRed: i love this game so much
