OldUncleDan: Have you ever seen some sort of food item being labeled as "Homestyle" and think. But whose home?
accountmadeforants:
Unrelated, I found out about "Nyaaaanvy" a few days ago, which is a kind of platform fighter/Gang Beasts-ish thing except everyone plays a long cat and you pool noodle your way across the stage, it's very fun.
Flyingdelorion: @ArtDecoSunburn Yes, but I am sad those nuts are very expensive, so I am going to enjoy them extra!
Juliamon: Why are they so expensive? They're like, a filler nut
Aceviru: @Juliamon The breakfast of champions
accountmadeforants: @OldUncleDan It's the home that has the room temperature room
ArtDecoSunburn: @Flyingdelorion I hear ya.
Flyingdelorion: @Juliamon Apparently the labor process is very intensive plus they come from far away (where I live)
ArtDecoSunburn: @Juliamon A lot of nut prices have to do with water and fertilizer costs in California.
accountmadeforants: Yeah cashews aren't cheap here either (though I wouldn't call them expensive)
kingandcommoner: Is gonna be the day

ArtDecoSunburn: Ahh, analog.
Boopity: That's just NES remix
FuzzRaTheBarelyLiving: You can load it a bit faster if you're playing an audio file down the cable, funnily enough. As long as the signal is clean you can get quite speedy.

ArtDecoSunburn: When I used to teach computer history to undergrads with a lab component, I would have them save data, video, and games to casette tapes to get them to understand the power of magnetic tape.
Laserbeaks_Fury: How many times could you copy games before you lose enough fidelity it won't load?
fiinnnaaaaannnnnnnn: how wonderfully analogue
ArtDecoSunburn: @Laserbeaks_Fury You get a decent number of times. It's like making a mix tape. Wears out eventually.

Strebenherz: oh no
TheMerricat: FWIW the memory limits of most computers that used tape drives primarily meant it was effectively impossible to have a program that was too large to fit on one side of a tape.
Laserbeaks_Fury: I made a silly stupid game once that could keep track of the items you've found by assigning them each a number: 1,2,4,8 and just having a sum value to reference
ArtDecoSunburn: You should practice booting from a floppy disc, Heather.
ArtDecoSunburn: @TheMerricat I miss the days of memory memory lines.

@TheCactaceae ZX81 for me. When I was 5 dad bought the kit for one off the PBX on base. Told mom he was going to put it together. OldUncleDan: @ArtDecoSunburn Yep yep!
ArtDecoSunburn: @TheMerricat Neat. Wonder how often PX stores got computers in people's hands.
Laserbeaks_Fury: Someone should make manuals for modern games. That's truly a very specific artform
Boopity:
Someone should make a game centered around a game manual
Laserbeaks_Fury: Tunic really took that to a new level
TheMerricat:
@ArtDecoSunburn We got hit twice.
That's also how he decided to buy the family's Atari ST.
ArtDecoSunburn: @Strebenherz I still fondly remember the manual for "Darklands" (1992), which had a bibliography.
TheMerricat: Luckily that one came assembled.
ArtDecoSunburn: @TheMerricat Neat. Government discounts for the win.
TheMerricat: I miss the novellas that games used to come with that set up the backstory for them. God those were fun reads.
BusTed: Like Rhythm Doctor

TheMerricat:
@Thefluffiestguineapig POPULAR. Unsightly Flamingo. WOOP!
Thefluffiestguineapig: There are so many baffling things in this
Thefluffiestguineapig: WHY DID YOU MAKE A TRAILER AT ALL
TheMerricat: Because they needed interest to convince the board to OK the project.
OldUncleDan: Shoebox of liiiiiiiiiies!
Akaiatana: Shoebox of flies.
Thefluffiestguineapig: @TheMerricat So they were trying the "leaking the Deadpool concept trailer" approach? But that one was clearly half finished and actually leaked
Laserbeaks_Fury: I mean, you do concept art to generate interest in making a thing
Thefluffiestguineapig: So all the points that would generate interest WERE THE POINTS THAT WERE LIES
Laserbeaks_Fury: Because you don't want to ask those questions about peoples pets
TheMerricat: @Thefluffiestguineapig So like I mentioned Elder Scrolls 6, it's not particularly surprising that game companies release a trailer well before the game ever is actually anything more than "Hello World" in reality. Plenty of games release trailers to hype up a crowd to convince someone to give them money to actually make the game.
Thefluffiestguineapig: Deer and squirrels "so gentle"
Laserbeaks_Fury: GRAINS....
Akaiatana: They'd eat zombie grass
jhmv: The zombie goes after the living because they lust for life
Juliamon: Cervanity?
JadedCynic: do human zombies go after humans for a reason or just because there's more people AT HAND than any other animal?
kingandcommoner: I heard somewhere that part of the reason a lot of movie trailers are so spoilery is because studios have been sued over stuff in the trailer not being in the final product
Thefluffiestguineapig: @TheMerricat For me the difference there is Elder Scrolls as a concept is an established world, so even if certain specifics not present it's still in that world
TheMerricat:
Chat anyone remember the Dead Island Trailer?
Thefluffiestguineapig: @TheMerricat YUP the one that goes backwards with the sad music?

Laserbeaks_Fury: Is this a shoot em up

Todd probably regrets the teaser because the Elder Scrolls community won't shut up about "Where's Elder Scrolls 6"
JadedCynic: yep
Thefluffiestguineapig: WHAT does that have to do with giant ships
Laserbeaks_Fury: Then a Sapce Hulk just shows up

accountmadeforants: Ben did play that one F2P Pokémon MMO beta where you could give your creatures hats, but they hadn't figured out how to anchor the hats to the right places yet so it looked *very* funny. (Especially the dung beetle thing, which just caused the hat to rotate around the ball)

OldUncleDan: No Non-Binary Sky
LilyOfTheVeil666: They made The Last Campfire a few years ago
TheMerricat: I have a feeling Hello Games will be working on NMS up till the point where no one is buying the game any longer.
Decaped: This whole method is very similar to Path of Exile, they have 2 games now and make stuff that can be used in both.
Boopity: It's one of the wildest redemption arcs
TheMerricat: I don't know that NMS could have DLC, it's design sorta assumes that everyone has access to everything.
Akaiatana: FWIW, I enjoyed the game at release and got my money's worth. And then it just got better
Juliamon: They actually proved they were listening to the community, not just the loudest voices
JadedCynic: @Akaiatana same
TheMerricat: I have high hopes for Light No Fires, but I also worry that by the time it comes out - where NMS will be will mean that people will look at it and say "Is that all?"
SquareDotCube: I have to agree, I feel like games need to be smaller and way more focused
accountmadeforants:

These are the devs who put out a simple mobile game (and a sequel or two), and years after it was done and over, they got a fan letter that it wasn't compatible with newer phone o/s's anymore, so they stepped aside and updated the old game - and Danger Dan works even with today's phones

SquareDotCube: Fans did get angry with the Chrono Trigger 30th anniversary
accountmadeforants: So maybe they should've just waited a few months with that
Territan: Fandoms are a natural consequence of having interesting things. *Engaging* with those fandoms is a mistake.
protojman: yall went so hard for the 20th I think you have a decade of goodwill
gualdhar: Rad Quest 2 25th anniversary edition
gualdhar: *Road
TheMerricat: @accountmadeforants Yeah, when I pulled up the american site for the series I noticed they had an entire section in the anniversary section labeled "Remake Project" which implies they are trying to modernize the games.
taliesinskye: We will be here as long as you're making things.
Getter404: Every year of Sentai or Ultraman is the anniversary of something
TheMerricat: @TheMerricat Remaster Project even.
kingandcommoner: Persona and KH already make us mad enough by not releasing the next game. A half assed anniversary celebration would just make it worse
aerolend: Anniverdary of anniversaries.
aerolend: *sary
TheMerricat: Overwatch is still making characters?
aerolend: Just 'meh'.
MTigress: onlyacquantances
TheMerricat: Chat, am I the only one who really just wanted the folk behind the old WoW and Overwatch cinematics and story to just 'break away' and start making movie/book stuff on their own instead of "Blizzard marketing"?
Getter404: Her own VA called it "Ozempic chic"
jhmv: have you seen the gif swaping the hairs?
accountmadeforants: She does have the Overwatch/Disney animation face for sure
accountmadeforants: (And F2P "come my liege" ad face, at that)
SquareDotCube: She looks like management got the note K-Pop Demon Hunters was absurdly sucessful
accountmadeforants: @SocraticMethod Oh that's amazing
jhmv: @SocraticMethod yeah that's the one LMAO
TheMerricat: "more confident pose"?!?!
MTigress: she looks slightly angy
kingandcommoner: bought some new tracts of land I see
SquareDotCube: You know what? She needs a scar.
Getter404: I assume they could only assign so much budget/developer time to this
aerolend: Dwayne the Rock Anran
protojman: why is she judging me
TheMerricat: So is this them 'selling out' or is this them basing every female character on the same base model?
SquareDotCube: Not a big scar, just a "got nicked in a fight" scar.
AshBurnem: Small indie company, please understand.
aerolend:

SymphonySolstice: give female characters eye bags and big noses you cowards
SquareDotCube: Overwatch could do with more Roman and Aqualine noses
Aceviru: I know nothing about ow or any characters but yeah, this a generic slop woman
Getter404: Hey, there was one (1) redhead girl
Aceviru: Hey tiktok proved that feeding people certain looks brings in the money
SquareDotCube: well at least it's not Bob Liefeld anatomy
JadedCynic:
Midge (Moose's GF) was shorter, with short RAVEN BLACK VERONICA hair...still had the SAME proportional build
SocraticMethod: @SquareDotCube I think Ana and Pharah are the only ones? Moira does have a large nose, though
UnknownFriday: Rob Liefeld's anatomy is spot on and I won't hear anything against it.
Getter404: There's also less gorillas now, they've said they want all their characters to be more easily cosplayed so the Freaks are out (Jetpack Cat being the notable exception)
OldUncleDan: Orisa
JadedCynic: @UnknownFriday oh yeah. But what he *draws*, on the other hand....
kingandcommoner: I felf like the original run had a decent number of body types, but they kept getting more samey as time went on
ContingentCat: Centaur is a different body type yeah
jhmv: I feel the original Overwatch characters had more variety of bodies, but the newer ones are like, every other one is a generic teen girl
theamc2000: no
freyjaviking94: Orisa is built by a young teenager, right?
Boopity: Remember: Ryza Atelier's thighs symbolizes the strength of the Japanese economy
SocraticMethod: Mei was concepted as a tank so she had proportionally bigger silhouette
MTigress: of all things, Gran Turismo?
Getter404: Was this by the same marketing exec who came up with The Tester?
Decaped: More Tomodachi life characters talking about 9/11?
TheMerricat:
@freyjaviking94 "Jeff Kaplan has stated that the inspiration to design Orisa as a female robot came from criticism that the game's female characters lacked the visually challenging uniqueness that the male characters exhibited." - so...
ProcyonFlynn: Absolutely not doing a job interview to be free content.
Aceviru: A limited time asset nice
freyjaviking94: @TheMerricat Well I was thinking of in game lore wise, the robot was built by a young girl
ContingentCat: Given what the internet does I wouldn't want my likeness in a game
accountmadeforants: @Getter404 Is Overwatch still popular enough to get that much cosplay?
OldUncleDan: I want this Gran Turismo fan to show up in a Gran Torino (MHA) cosplay.
Getter404: @accountmadeforants No idea, haven't been to a PAX in like 9 years
TheMerricat:
@freyjaviking94 "Built by eleven-year-old genius Efi Oladele, Orisa was created to defend the city of Numbani from all threats." yes.
ContingentCat: Yup, no thanks
Boopity: Shoutouts to Dispatch for using pre-rendered cutscenes and thus avoiding this
MTigress: get scanned for Grant Turismo, end up getting killed in a God of War game 5 years later, and as a bored shop keeper in a random future RPG
Boopity: Because BOY would that game have so much porn of it
ghyllnox: @Boopity Would, yes. This is purely hypothetical and definitely has not occurred
Boopity:
@ghyllnox Okay, yeah, I admit I have seen people trying to straight up recreate the models
accountmadeforants: Oh no it literally just occurred to me that people would go to the bathroom while wearing their Apple headset thing
accountmadeforants: It's been however many years since the thing came out and it literally only just occurred to me
Boopity:
@accountmadeforants Wouldn't be a first for Desert Bus
accountmadeforants:
@Boopity I do remember that
accountmadeforants: But something about someone wearing their stupid VR headset to the bathroom is just very strange to me
TheMerricat: Value doing this officially is cool, but it should also be remembered that Moonlight is an open source implementation of Steam Remote and runs on... almost everything.
LordZarano: Steam Frame is gonna be ARM based, so that's partway there
fiinnnaaaaannnnnnnn: VR headset in bathroom is the logical evolution of headset in the bathroom
jhmv: so somebody on valve did it so they could play balatro on the down lown
accountmadeforants: @TheMerricat Moonlight is the client, Sunshine is the host side. (And it used to work with Nvidia's streaming thing before they killed that. Which was the original point of the client.)
TheMerricat: @accountmadeforants Right, wouldn't Moonlight be the thing that gets installed on the headset?
Boopity:

Boopity: *Gasp*
TheMerricat:
So not going to mention Gabe Newell talking about setting up ChatGPT for Valve Support...
accountmadeforants: @TheMerricat Right, just wanted to be specific, in that Moonlight doesn't let you stream things on its own.
Akaiatana: @TheMerricat When was this?
TheMerricat: @Akaiatana This week.
accountmadeforants: Just a leak for now, no clue if it's going to become a real thing
TheMerricat:
Though the story had legs and really what is going on is folk datamined stuff that indicates Valve might be thinking about using AI. As @accountmadeforants's link indicates.
Ashmantle:

dumbo3k: Thanks for having us
accountmadeforants:

DoodlestheGreat: WHAT? No boops?
e_bloc: the bops
SocraticMethod: "Next Bop!" does hit differently
e_bloc: the bits in the game are quite good
DoodlestheGreat: Raspberry devil jam.
TheMerricat: Chat, would Devil Jam count as jerky?
ContingentCat: making jam with the devil sounds good
TheMerricat: I hope you like Strixhaven chat. :LD
ArtDecoSunburn: It's the remake of "Foundations of Rome."
TheAinMAP:

SocraticMethod: Foundations of Metropolis(1927)? That's a deep cut
TheAinMAP: Thank you for streaming.
DoodlestheGreat: 10 q 4 strem
SaxPython: oh I didn't make it

KeytarCat: wow, preroll ad ended as the offline screen went up
Juliamon: you made it for Rhythm Cafe at least SaxPython
SaxPython:

SaxPython: I get to watch going offline ads and going online ads. #Value
TheMerricat:
Well that was weird, Twitch correctly marked the stream as offline, then refreshed itself and marked it back online... even though the stream is... offline.
Juliamon: Twitch... Twitch never stops changing.
