Alex_Frostfire: Love a colourblind-friendly game, even if I don't know anyone that's colourblind.
LoadingReadyRun: I do find it interesting that the scoring conditions are "fixed" (as in the same for every game). We often see these games have an assortment of cards to randomize the scoring conditions
lamina5432: @Dog_of_Myth did they have a premium version of this like the rome one with full models for the buildings?
Twilight_Spark: The city council can't hold all this PRESTIGE.
Dog_of_Myth: @lamina5432 Not sure. There could be but I haven't seen it.
lamina5432: o7
Tz_BG: Matt should get 2 more prestige
Mr_Bitterness: Matt gets +2 stars for placing his shops
Dog_of_Myth: But for $50, the quality of the components is pretty good.
lamina5432: @Dog_of_Myth the premium rome one was like 200, also a good deal but heck of more expensive
e_bloc: $50 seems like a bargain
LoadingReadyRun: @Dog_of_Myth we were reemarking on the nice components. it is very satisfying to put all the buildings in the slots
Dog_of_Myth: Yeah, they did a really good job on the design
ArtDecoSunburn: I missed the beginning, but it reminds me of the classic 90s board game "Big City."
Mr_Bitterness: I was waiting to see if anyone was gonna block Ben
Pal_Friendpatine: Didn’t they make a board game based on Cities Skylines? Anyone played that?
SquareDotCube: El Hotel
HadesLeprechaun: We can see a lot of city all around this square the players are building up
ArtDecoSunburn: Worst hotel in my county growing up was the "Van Thomas Motel." Used to rent rooms in 15 minutes increments for especially shady clientele.
HadesLeprechaun: Shouldn't have to commute *too* far
ArtDecoSunburn watched 55 consecutive streams and sparked a watch streak!
It's mostly poly
ArtDecoSunburn: @Pal_Friendpatine It's mostly poly domino placement. Can be played solo.
kusinohki: I've heard of hourly rates, but every 15 mins???
Juliamon: sometimes you don't need the full hour
ArtDecoSunburn: @kusinohki Sometimes your hooker or junkie is operating on a budget.
ArtDecoSunburn: This has a nicer color scheme and rooftop design for the tiles than the Cities:Skylines board game.
ArtDecoSunburn: Still not as charming as the "Big City" buildings, but that's hard to find in print.
ArtDecoSunburn: I'm a sucker for city building games.
CaptainSpam: I might need to send LRR a copy of Quadropolis at some point. Simpler, but also fun.
kusinohki: incredibly chill until someone takes your spot. then the cuss words fly
ArtDecoSunburn: Paul describes "Suburbia" with the individual boards.
HadesLeprechaun: Destiny 2
Dog_of_Myth: Yeah, this game is as chill or as competitive as your playgroup.
ArtDecoSunburn: @kusinohki Like with all cities. Is it a really a metropolis if a real estate developer is not decking a city council member over dense residential placement?
HadesLeprechaun: I like Suburbia mechanics but the art design makes my artist heart die a little bit
ArtDecoSunburn: @HadesLeprechaun Agree.

Dog_of_Myth: 4 is the largest
ArtDecoSunburn: @kusinohki Wasn't there in the Rome version?
Dog_of_Myth: Rome was designed for 5 players, they had to cut the fifth player for this version to keep costs down.
kusinohki: I don't remember. only saw that version once and didn't play. think I've only played this version once, maybe twice...
Juliamon: I appreciate the reminder that there's one single nice thing about being disabled, and it's that I don't make enough money to be required to file
AMuseOfFirebane: @Juliamon Hear hear!
e_bloc: you really gotta find the positives where you can
KeytarCat: @Juliamon The one single thing that isn't awful is I have to engage with my taxes as much as a european
Mr_Bitterness: Oh I think I see Matt's line
Heckhoundbolt: he’s gonna build them demolish
AMillionCatsOnTypewriters: I like that line
ArtDecoSunburn: @Juliamon I remember when I was a college kid, out of state in MA, but still registered in my home state of AL. My part time campus library job that made like 20 dollars a week still got taxed at the state level in my home state.
TheMerricat: "You can 'upgrade' that school into a condo." - Peak Capitalism chat. :D
kusinohki: "I thought you lived at a school" - magneto
ArtDecoSunburn: @TheMerricat Just gentrifying the students into tenants.
e_bloc: if you replace the schools with condos, the kids will never know how much you are ripping them off in rent
ArtDecoSunburn: The most ridiculous rezoning mechanic in a game of this sort was Sim City: The TCG, where most rezonings required all the players to play city council cards and vote and where there were extra long cards in the booster packs that you laid on top of two other cards longways to rezone.
calculated_uncertainties: Cheer100 Cheer1 Cheer1 Cheer1 Cheer1 Cheer1
AMillionCatsOnTypewriters: I kind of want Sim City: TCG cards (especially those double length cards), but I would never even attempt to play that game
Shadwhawk: Oh, wow, a SimCity CCG from 30 years ago? You bastards, you just made me want to try and track it down
ArtDecoSunburn: @AMillionCatsOnTypewriters My secret shame is collecting them. They're cheap because no one else wants them. I've toyed with mailing some packs to LRR to see if they'll play on stream. So much math.
ArtDecoSunburn: @Shadwhawk The art is literally photos of Chicago suburbs from the mid-1990s.
ArtDecoSunburn: I think it was the first TCG to use a shared deck and eschew pre-game deck construction. It's accidentally the first in-game deck builder.
AMillionCatsOnTypewriters: @ArtDecoSunburn Yeah, they pretty much just drove around their area taking pictures
LoadingReadyRun: I wonder if auctioning off building lots randomly like this would actually be an effective system
Shadwhawk: @ArtDecoSunburn I'm looking at a Washington DC Starter Deck, factory sealed, for $30 on ebay. Looks like it's photos, too
ArtDecoSunburn: @LoadingReadyRun Some small cities do this to redevelop brownbelts.
HadesLeprechaun: wasn't there an Nsburg town auction where everyone trades their houses/buildings?
e_bloc: @Shadwhawk I imagine so much brutalism
AMillionCatsOnTypewriters: @Shadwhawk Yeah, all photos. Except for DC specific stuff it will still be Chicago suburb stuff though.
ArtDecoSunburn: @Shadwhawk They did DC, Chicago, and NYC special decks. Were supposed to do Toronto, but it got cancelled.
TheMerricat: @AMillionCatsOnTypewriters https://boardgamegeek.com/image/281807/sim-city-the-card-game the Mayor card. :D
LoadingReadyRun: This game makes everyone sound like *really* competitive Bingo players :P
ArtDecoSunburn: @AMillionCatsOnTypewriters Except for the long rare cards and the promos. A lot of global landmarks in the former, a lot of local game stores across the US in the latter.
AMillionCatsOnTypewriters: @TheMerricat There is also a copy of the mayor card as just plain paper in the instruction manual if you don't have one
Diabore: a2, kathleen?
Mr_Bitterness: Ian's gonna ride this first round Marketplace to victory
TheMerricat: @LoadingReadyRun _corrupt_ Bingo players, they are paying to get their ball called. :D
ArtDecoSunburn: @LoadingReadyRun A2! (Old lady stamps card in church basement, guns down bingo caller)
AMillionCatsOnTypewriters: @ArtDecoSunburn Yeah, the promos being local gameshops was a cool little thing that you can only do with a game like that.
ArtDecoSunburn: @AMillionCatsOnTypewriters Also the coal power plant, which is needed to unlock Phase III buildings. The rulebook is terrible.
HadesLeprechaun: I wonder if the game The Estates would be good for AFK or if it's TOO cutthroat and mean, lol
ArtDecoSunburn: @AMillionCatsOnTypewriters I was exuberant when I tracked down my favorite promo, "The Detective Agency."
TheMerricat: @ArtDecoSunburn TBF it _was_ 1995, not like there were a lot of games like it back then to model off of. :D
ArtDecoSunburn: @HadesLeprechaun It's worth playing. I'd also suggest "Magnate."
TheMerricat: @HadesLeprechaun Depends on the folk sitting at the table.:P
ArtDecoSunburn: @TheMerricat Funny enough, the rulebook in the DC deck is better written, I think.
NotCainNorAbel: wow
Dog_of_Myth: hahaha
LoadingReadyRun: I feel like this could work quite well as a digital game. it could highlight the squares that are currently available
AMillionCatsOnTypewriters: Yeah, people were rushing to make their own TCGs in the mid 90s without understanding what makes a good TCG.
Dog_of_Myth: !clip
LRRbot: If you see something funny or particularly noteworthy, make a Clip of it! Your clip could appear in a fortnightly video or be seen at https://www.twitch.tv/loadingreadyrun/clips (Please give your clips descriptive names if you want them to be seen!)
Mr_Bitterness: Excellent Matt
Juliamon: everyone 'loves' a spite house
ArtDecoSunburn: @TheMerricat Somewhere there's an alternate universe where "Sim City," "Over the Edge," and "Age of Empires" dominated TCGs and "Magic" and "Pokemon" withered on the vine. (Shudders)
TheMerricat: @ArtDecoSunburn In that world is the publisher of Sim City pumping out 10 sets a year based on the capitals of every state and nation in the world? :P
ArtDecoSunburn: @LoadingReadyRun That's why I want a digital port of the auction game "Chinatown."
KeytarCat: Attempt F8
ArtDecoSunburn: @TheMerricat "Capitals Beyond announces Tbilisi"
ArtDecoSunburn: @AMillionCatsOnTypewriters I do wish some of the more diverse ideas had taken hold. Too many games are Magic combat knockoffs.
TheMerricat: @ArtDecoSunburn So I know tabletop sim is like the Seven Seas of Digital Board Games but... there is a Chinatown creation on the work shop. :P
HadesLeprechaun: @ArtDecoSunburn there's no auctioning in Chinatown, is there? It's just ruthless trades and deals, everyone is just given tiles randomly
PharaohBender27: Ahoy-hoy! How's the city-building going?
Juliamon: consider... a world where Weiss Schwarz is the juggernaut
HadesLeprechaun: the city is pretty close to built!
ArtDecoSunburn: @TheMerricat I'll look it up, thanks. "Chinatown" and "Tammany Hall" are among my favorite knife-fighting games.
AMillionCatsOnTypewriters: Speaking of Sim City TCG, I think a good modern day version of singular deck and you can buy boosters to give new options to add to the deck is Doomlings.
ArtDecoSunburn: @HadesLeprechaun You're right. I miss spoke. Should have indicated "trading/barter."
PharaohBender27: Also glad to see that lrrKATHLEEN 's headache has maybe? resolved
letsbelgo: "You just netdeck your neo-tokyo deck while I am over here on Amsterdam control"
ArtDecoSunburn: @AMillionCatsOnTypewriters Interesting. Will have to look it up. (Grins) Unlike C0s Sim City TCG, I presume it doesn't let you play a tornado on your opponents?
ArtDecoSunburn: @letsbelgo Amsterdam Control is a daming strategy.
Diabore: this game gonna go boom
ArtDecoSunburn: @letsbelgo You've made me want to develop an alternate universe of Sim City card deck and play style archetypes.
AMillionCatsOnTypewriters: @ArtDecoSunburn It plays nothing like SIm City TCG. You are playing traits for your little cute species that give various bonuses and actions. Racing to having the most points before the end of the world.
TheMerricat: So I feel like this game, if played 'cooperatively' could result in a very full metropolis, but when played competivily you'd get Detroit or downtown St. Louis - a depressed economy wide swaths of empty lots with and yet no room or money for development anywhere.
AMillionCatsOnTypewriters: But on top of normal expansions, they also have gold packs with rare cards, alt arts, and such.
ArtDecoSunburn: @AMillionCatsOnTypewriters Ha! Hence the doomlings. I'll check it out. Glad to see someone trying that style of shared deck again.
HadesLeprechaun: this game seems like the last rounds can kinda be mathed out optimally which can slow games like this down a bit if everyone is trying to play perfect, but otherwise looks quite fun, never heard of it before
ArtDecoSunburn: @AMillionCatsOnTypewriters Sounds like what the Sim City folks intended to do. They were train game people, though. The TCG bankrupted the company. Let's hope Doomlings doesn't meet that fate.
