TehAmelie: whatchu doing chat? i'm thinking of a 1977 Star Trek cosplay convention i read about. such costumes they made, without even having VCR to get references.
Juliamon: just waiting
TheMerricat:
@TehAmelie "Sadly enough Star Trek was practically ignored in favor of Star Wars and Logan's Run costumes. There were a few Starfleet costumes here and there, however. One excellent one was on a young man who looked astonishingly like a young Captain Kirk. " - I'm having a hoot imagining a convention full of Logans Run cosplayers.
TehAmelie: ha
Juliamon:

TehAmelie: it's time to sink or. . .sound?
TheMerricat: "On Saturday afternoon, Walter Koenig conducted a Question and Answer session. Some of the key points were as follows; there will be 3 new officers on the Bridge crew, a 22 yr old full Vulcan Science Officer, Commodore Decker as 1st Officer, and a female navigator. So where does Chekov go? A promotion to Lieutenant and head of Security. He is in charge of Kirk's welfare." - wow they really had plans that never went anywhere didn't they.
TehAmelie: come to think, i've never seen a fishing game where you have to deal with sinkers, the lead weight between the bobber and the hook
TehAmelie: ahoy
LurkerSpine:
100 Hello!
Sarah_Serinde:
Ah, the guest wife is back
exeJayce: hi! a wild Beej has joined Rhythm Cafe, I see
TheMerricat: Lies, in Heather's House of Lies.
Dog_of_Myth: Oh, Hi Heather and Bonus Beej
Sarah_Serinde: ooh cake
Caffine1138: cake is a good bribe
exeJayce: y'all are too cute, I love it
adept_nekomancer: Rhythm Cafe -- now with cake!
TheMerricat: And now I want cake, damn you Beej!
SAJewers: is that joishi from touhou?
SAJewers: koishi*
exeJayce: we do love when Steam slightly fibs about controller support
TehAmelie: is this the third lo-fi fishing game we've had on this channel in a month? very different games on different shows, but it seems like a curious trend
exeJayce: Beej just gets progressively smaller and smaller
LRRbot:
If you see something funny or particularly noteworthy, make a Clip of it! Your clip could appear in a fortnightly video or be seen at https://www.twitch.tv/loadingreadyrun/clips (Named clips with no autocaptions are preferred but not required!)
LurkerSpine: disappeared like magic
PharaohBender27: Off to Atlantis!
ErynTzun:
oh hai!
ErynTzun: those eyes @_@
ShaneLeeAtk: Didn't mermaid flesh make you immortal?
adept_nekomancer: I love that her response to the existence of mermaids is, "I have to catch them!"
ErynTzun: F to pay respects to fish in water
accountmadeforants: Oh that's very good
IanAllenBird: whoops!
ErynTzun: Fish Catch YOU
iarethel0ser: Round one, Fish Wins.
exeJayce: "in our domain, the fish catch you"
accountmadeforants: We're off to a fantastic start
accountmadeforants: Her :3 face is good
ErynTzun: 83
adept_nekomancer: We cannot swim in the subocean
Sarah_Serinde:

exeJayce: Beej, she's going to throw YOU into the water by the end of this
accountmadeforants: Oh that's an interesting rhythm mechanism
accountmadeforants: Primarily hold-based
accountmadeforants: Fish aura
TehAmelie: these fish have tunes. i hope they're not all tunas
MungoDude: today's chi is teriyaki
LurkerSpine: this feels a lil bit like gitaroo man
MungoDude: success
iarethel0ser:

TehAmelie: are the mermaids on our side? very sus
MungoDude:

TehAmelie: narwhals, narwhals ♫
AugmentingPath: all that for one fish, huh
TehAmelie: is the D grade for the fish or the way we caught it?
Juliamon: is that what the sun smells like?
adept_nekomancer: Why are we smelling the sun?
kusinohki: when the sun is in mourning... how does sadness smell?
TehAmelie: sun smell, essence of guitar, are we building a Yankee Candle scent?
MungoDude:

TehAmelie: woo
Dog_of_Myth:

TehAmelie: fishing good makes the fish taste better, right
TehAmelie: or we're learning to sense and match the fish's rhythm just for the love of the art
ContingentCat: Bring me pictures of spiderman-- I mean fish!
LurkerSpine:
100
TehAmelie: a heckin chonker catfish
Decaped: Splashaction is my favorite Japanese singer
nevermore913: I think if that was how fishing worked in real life I might be more into fishing
ArtDecoSunburn: Hello. How's the fishing hole? Does the game open with a simulation of shopping at a Bass Pro Outlet store?
adept_nekomancer: I was not expecting the fish catching rhythm game to be this complex
ArtDecoSunburn: I have a second cousin who's a a professional competitive circuit bass fisherman. Lives off tournament winnings and sponsorships. He's not very good -- barely hangs on. Like those bottom of the rankings golf and tennis circuit pros.
cmdrzellgaudis watched 220 consecutive streams and sparked a watch streak!
ArtDecoSunburn: He'll never be the Tiger Woods of fishing, but he likes being out on his boat early in the morning. Fans of the Bass Pro circuit will recognize him in Walmart and ask for autographs sometimes. There's just enough market to produce television footage for ESPN 3.
adept_nekomancer: Why do we even have the boots if we're afraid of wading?
Boopity: @adept_nekomancer For cuteness
ArtDecoSunburn: I have an acquitance who lives a very different life --he's a high end fly fishing coach in Wyoming and Montana. Rents himself out for obscene sums, all expenses paid, for weekend trips for wealthy stockbrokers and politicans and the like. He's apparently taught presidents and kings. He can work when we wants to, endorses specialty flies, and spends most of his time writing.
InconsiderateHat: The silence after a loss is so anticlimactic.
ArtDecoSunburn: I'd call both me happy, if at different ends of the fishing spectrum.
ArtDecoSunburn: Men*
MAPBoardgames: I would imagine a musical fishing game would have you catch Bass.
MAPBoardgames: Try it again. Once more with Sole!
TehAmelie: not to mention shellfish (this pun doesn't work in English)
KeytarCat: Is there an input for the ticks on the outer track (beat catcher?)?
ArtDecoSunburn: @MAPBoardgames Ha! Or at least trout. Wasn't that the fish in Mozart's piece?
Boopity:
Oh this game is made in Godot, neat (I recognize the default checkbutton and slider UI
)
TehAmelie: there's always more fish in the sea am i right
KeytarCat:
AND cosmetics??
ArtDecoSunburn: Can we rent a rowboat at some point?
Boopity:
@KeytarCat Wouldn't be a proper rhythm game without
TehAmelie: just noticed the lily pads grooving
TehAmelie: what a world
Boopity: @TehAmelie Reminds me of that other game Heather played on Send codes, where all the objects in the map just pulsated to the music
KeytarCat: Did it just...refill?
KeytarCat:
refills at the store, you don't buy more at the store
RealGamerCow: this fishing interface is indecipherable to me
Boopity:
It definitely is a lot
Boopity: I wonder whether we've seen all of the mechanics yet or if there are more
Juliamon: I suspect the catfish will have a unique mechanic
KeytarCat:
@RealGamerCow Outside is a rhythm track you have to ride with the white arc. the next layer is the reel power, and the next is progress. the fish bar is tension, which exchanges for better reeling. the beet marker in the bottom is a beat marker. Did that help?
KeytarCat: Also, the outer ring glows when you're in perfect tension
ArtDecoSunburn: Is there a mini-game where we have to renew our fishing license with the Game and Wildlife Commission?
Boopity:
@KeytarCat People do say that about me
KeytarCat: Oh, I was explaining to chat, all the things
LRRbot:
If you see something funny or particularly noteworthy, make a Clip of it! Your clip could appear in a fortnightly video or be seen at https://www.twitch.tv/loadingreadyrun/clips (Named clips with no autocaptions are preferred but not required!)
RealGamerCow: thats a lot
InconsiderateHat: That's too many things for my brain
KeytarCat: There's SO MUCH going on, I think I love it
KeytarCat: Thanks Beej! Thanks Heather!
Boopity: I mean, this _is_ the whole game, not just a minigame, so it has to be in-depth to carry an entire gameplay loop
Boopity:
But yes, coming into stream and just seeing the UI without the tutorials is... an experience
BraveOthello: Wait ... That's not Ian! That's not Ian at all!
Boopity:
@BraveOthello What do you mean? Just a normal Rhythm Cafe stream as usual over here
BraveOthello: @Boopity No no no, I don't doubt my eyes, there's something off here!
Boopity:
"Learn about desperation?" is one hell of a prompt
KeytarCat: Some of my friends are finnish on their own
goombalax: @KeytarCat I'm certain they had help
Boopity: Oh the edge of the screen is going _absolutely wild_
KeytarCat:
cave fish likes the dark 🤷♀️
Bionull: Is the zoom in view on the lure good for anything?
Boopity:

KeytarCat: Do different levels of reeling give you different amounts of tension?
KeytarCat: Not one of those faek splashes
Decaped: how do you rate this sound loop chat?
Decaped: honestly, it's pretty good for how short it is
Boopity: I feel like it could use at least one more phrase, but that might mess with the rhythm gameplay
Boopity:
At what point does the game just devolve into osu
KeytarCat: Woo!
UtilityPunk:
Oooh, this looks fun
Bionull: Girl so excited about E rank
TehAmelie: who's making golem fish?
UtilityPunk: DBZ scanners for fish!
KeytarCat: you can use the jumps to start a reel, and Heather was doing that elsewhere, but it caused a line snap at least once
KeytarCat: On the music side, Flickering Lamp (phase 1) doesn't feel like a good loop because it doesn't feed into itself or phase 2 particularly well. and I think phase 2 is looping a 16th early?
KeytarCat: Oh, the tension timer that tells you when the perfect is moving? yeah, I don't know that that's helpful
SaxPython:

UtilityPunk:
That fish is cooked, and apparently so is Heather
accountmadeforants: Ooooo
Boopity: ??
Juliamon: It's ~future content~
accountmadeforants: We've finally found a key, now we're really playing a video game
Boopity:
This is actually secretly a Kingdom Hearts
Bionull: Leading us, like a fish on a line, oh no!
Bionull: Do you think giant catfishes eat mermaids?
UtilityPunk: Boss titlecard!
Boopity:
Why am I surprised that it has boss music
Juliamon: oh my god *six* phases
Boopity: Your mom lets you have 6 phases??
accountmadeforants: There's a few spots along my walking route where people tend to fish and now I'll picture them doing this the whole time
UtilityPunk: This catfish ate the other two bosses and absorbed their phases
Boopity:
Is this one of those games where if you play it too much, you start to see it when you close your eyes?
KeytarCat: aaaand we missed a tutorial bc it timed out while heather was blinking the warnings out of her eyes
KeytarCat: Damned tutorial timeouts!
Boopity: It's a bit clunky how the tutorials only appear after you run into the mechanic (and very likely fail) for the first time, although I'm not sure what a better solution would be
SaxPython:

accountmadeforants:
@Boopity Having a dedicated tutorial enemy probably, rather than failing partway through a boss fight
accountmadeforants:
It's the antithesis of actual fishing

LRR has an official Discord server! And you don't even need to be subbed or anything! You can join here: https://discord.gg/lrr
Juliamon: It's a fun concept that needs some refinement
Boopity:
The ring visually reminds me a bit of Cool Cool Toon, which had the Rhythm Cafe team go through it a bit
Bionull: I think the idea is you're rhythm gaming to do an action, but they couldn't actually convey what to do in the fishing, so you're just following the line guide.
RealGamerCow: it is a very interesting game
accountmadeforants: Yeah it's fascinating
TheMerricat subscribed with Prime. They've subscribed for 117 months!
LRRbot:
Thanks for subscribing, TheMerricat! (Today's storm count: 118)
Bionull: Control wise it seems a little like Gitaroo Man
accountmadeforants: Now now the Catfish was like 170
accountmadeforants: (But yeah these super high BPMs seem a bit iffy)
KeytarCat: Complexity and difficulty are different scales
Bionull: You can easily stay high bpm with easy songs. Just make the notes more sparse.
Boopity: @Bionull But what point of high bpm if not hard - most rhythm games you will encounter
Boopity:
I love the aesthetic
RealGamerCow: I could not decipher how long each fish would last
KeytarCat: Speedrunning this would be more interesting than a traditional rhythm game
KeytarCat: Thanks for stream!
Boopity:
Thank you for the stream
