TXC2: that's why it's often called the LOWER bracket
Thefluffiestguineapig: It is just SO BAD
Thefluffiestguineapig: And the fact that they don't have the winner of the lower bracket have equal odds against the other finalist is BANANAS
Wolfstrike_NL: I learned about it because of Adam's UNI tournament :P
Fantusta: "bracket reset" is just a fancy way of making it a true double elimination, I've never heard it called that before but I first saw it in, like, a DDR tournament 20 years ago
Juliamon: I just don't see why Go has to be part of Worlds at all. People could just have their own tournaments if they *really* want to fight with Go's PVP system. It doesn't need to be an official event.
TXC2: "bracket reset" is from Fighting game Tourneys, which are very often double elimination
RockPusher: Yeah, the "bracket reset" terminology is new to me - it's just how double elimination works
ThorSokar: Yea, happened several times at CEO last month where the "winner" lost the last match, and then they had to do another match

TheMerricat: So something that probably isn't as exciting to non-Steam/Value fanboys but semi-related is SteamDB, the service that used to catalog pretty much EVERYTHING that got uploaded to steam publicly, has been sold to NexusMods. Whom themselves have changed owners from the OG founder to a new company at the start of the year.
RassilonDND: oh heck, did i miss the one more pubg game?
Juliamon: RassilonDND That's next week
e_bloc: monday was jackbox
RockPusher: TheMerricat yeah, saw that, sounds like they are done-for
Invitare: see Mass Effect 3 ending
RassilonDND: phew, thanks @Juliamon and @e_bloc
Laserbeaks_Fury: When Arkham City was released, there was Day 1 DLC that's just part of the game going forward and it's really hard to get a version of the game without that DLC thats not a physical disc with 1.0
RandomTrivia: @TheMerricat Let me guess, either private equity or AI training or both at the same time?
e_bloc: if only you filmed the writing process
Thefluffiestguineapig: A lot of the services that had archiving purposes or people used it for archiving purposes are getting sold off unfortunately
TheMerricat: @RandomTrivia Actually no, at least as claimed. The new owners of NexusMods picked it up from the founder because he was tired of dealing with the hassle of running it. If I understand correctly the SteamDB people are claiming they sold to the Nexus because there's stuff they want to be able to do but don't have the funds to do it and apparently NM is flush with cash ATM.
e_bloc: it would be funny if they did that just as a second-variety type fakeout
RandomTrivia: @TheMerricat Ooh, then I shall be cautiously optimistic
ThorSokar: I look forward to someone, who is not me, going through that dump and finding the actually interesting bits
TheMerricat: Cowboy Beebop? :P
Juliamon: People have been finding interesting bits
Laserbeaks_Fury: And that cowboy was Arthur Morgan
TheMerricat: Userdata, and they track pretty much everything uploaded publicly to the SteamDepot servers.

Laserbeaks_Fury: it's some level of curation
TheMerricat: They don't have pay for mods, but they do charge for a membership if you want fast downloads.
ThorSokar: NexusMods has an incredibly bad rep
Thefluffiestguineapig: Ah, oh dear
Rantling: I've never had a problem.

ThorSokar: Honestly, not surprised he hasn't burnt out before now
RockPusher: The value is a site that has information people want that you can put *so much* advertising on.
TheMerricat: So the company that owns NexusMods now is called Chosen - their site is wearechosen.io. They took over NexusMods from _it's_ OG founder at the start of the year and so far they have managed not to upset the apple cart. So it is hopeful they are actually fans and not... well as other have said.
Laserbeaks_Fury: Chosen? Impressive...
Juliamon: the best story of the week
RockPusher: Well, Paul overselling the "uploading" part
Thefluffiestguineapig: 0.o
TXC2: COOL TECHNOLOGY
RandomTrivia: Truly spectacular
e_bloc: wonders will never cease
ThorSokar: @TheMerricat The blowup I was referring to was they were monetizing people's mods w/o permission, caused the entire Subnautica Mod community to move to discord, but that was years ago, and would have been a different owner
ErynTzun: oopsies who's the dummy
Mr_Horrible: "Dummy: Executable" was my last performance evaluation sinuuSmug
Laserbeaks_Fury: The executable just displays a website to go get the game

RandomTrivia: Oh nooo
Thefluffiestguineapig: ;'///////////////////////////
Juliamon: hiiii kitty
Thefluffiestguineapig: Kitty says hi
RandomTrivia: Thefluffiestguineapig Hi kitty!
TheMerricat: @ThorSokar Yeah, I was around during that era too and it wasn't monetizing mods. They were rolling out the ability to download collections of mods as a curated setup instead of piecemeal part of setup they indicated that once you uploaded a mod to their servers, they reserved the right to serve it to people indefinitely. You could take your mod down so it wasn't visible but if they had the link to it or a collection included it, they could still download it. Nexus has never EVER monetized mods.
Laserbeaks_Fury: oh yeah, effin Windows 11 did something to Notepad than makes "closing" the program doesn't save your changes
KharadBanar: You‘ve heard of dark patterns, u
RandomTrivia: "Reuploading because... uh... reasons"
e_bloc: "this is the HD version"
KharadBanar: but have you heard of dumb patterns?
RandomTrivia: "Here's the director's cut"
RandomTrivia: Oh this story made me so mad
Juliamon: Sony really aggressively burying their heads in their own asses
kingandcommoner: The government said it's my turn with the lightbulb
pissitout: Hey you
eid010n: intentionally conflating selling a COPY versus selling the copyRIGHT in order to undermine consumer rights.

BusTed: isn't that what DivX disks were?
LordZarano: DVDs that destroy themselves was actually a thing that was tried. "No-return rentals" they called it
TheMerricat: So to be honest, I understand why we are referring to this as a strawman argument but I feel like this is way more a Gish Gallop where they were just spamming arguments in hopes that the other side will just miss one of them and thus you 'win' by default.
Laserbeaks_Fury: SAND

kingandcommoner: So this is your wallet

shushu2539: let's bring back physical media
TheMerricat: So the count decision that decided you can _buy_ a copy of the media but not run it on a computer was in 1997. The courts decided that you _OWN_ the copy. You do not _own_ the right to make copies into the comptuers RAM to play it. For that you need a license.
TXC2: physical media isn't the problem, copyright law is
Thefluffiestguineapig: @TXC2 Wolfgang speaking his truth is fine, I'm more concerned about Wolfgang crashing my computer
Rantling: I owned the Scott Pilgrim video game as a digital download on my PS2, they took it away.
TXC2: Thefluffiestguineapig fair
