plummeting_sloth: @orionsrise1 , so the idea behind a metal organic framework is that you take basically what is a plastic and intersperse metal ions at key points, creating crystal-like framing. So it becomes both like a metal (strong, sturdy) and like a plastic (flexible, hydrophilic). In my molecule, the aluminum is helping the molecule "breath" (open and close when it takes in a drug molecule) and provide a site for that drug to coordination bond to
KingXicorAndTheWarBoar: Thanks!
Nigouki: eh, Bandai doesn't make anything close to screen accurate or lineart accurate. they always reinterpret things horrificly
plummeting_sloth: they're the new thing in materials structure. you're gonna be hearing a lot about them in the next decade, I should think
plummeting_sloth: er, materials science, I should say
ArcOfTheConclave: @plummeting_sloth that sounds super cool.
Nigouki: Bandai's action figure division, like the Robot Damashii line have always been fantastically accurate to the source material. The model kits on the other hand always focused on gimmicks and ease of construction to suck in new and inexperience modellers
Nigouki: Bandai has amazing technology, but they rarely, RARELY use it to the fullest
plummeting_sloth: you wanna know the coolest thing about them? So, say you have a gas cylinder, right? The sort of thing you fill balloons with. If you filled that tank with metal organic frameworks FIRST, and then put gas in it, it would hold more gas than it would if it was empty
Nigouki: Kazuhisa Kondo
underhill33: lrrWOW
ArcOfTheConclave: @plummeting_sloth I've heard about those.

BaronSnow: has any mentioned the mech design of Five Star Stories on the wild and crazy side?
plummeting_sloth: @orionsrise1 there's a lot of nano-particles out there. The nice thing about Metal organic frameworks compared to, say, carbon nano-tubes or nano-sphere is that they don't tear up the insides of humans if you breath them in. Or inject them
Nigouki: the benefit of garage kits is that they're rarely posable. they focus on the fixed pose and accuracy. Bandai's approach to injection kits (and the limitation of the injection process) always meant gimmicks first
orionsrise1: what are the success rate of them binding to cancerous cells if you don't mind my asking?
kakmize: Also if aren't most of these mech supposed to be military designed? So wouldn't the base of these units be mass produced (in universe)?
GarQuithnik: Whats Ian making?
7gorobei: kit manufacturing will always be a bit separate from animation assets. the kits are done in nurbs cad/cam for 5d machining of the dies, animation assets are predominantly polygons

DoodlestheGreat: I chose the Path of Exile. :tf:
Simonark: @Lysander_Gustav And the Bond movie For Your Eyes Only!
Nigouki: Bandai refuses to treat it's customers like actual scale modelers. The snap-fit construction, while very user friendly, is sometimes an impediment. Same thing with color separation to avoid painting for those that don't want to paint. Both of those require choices from the kit designer to sacrifice proportions. Thankfully there's other manufacturers like Kotobukiya, Wave, PLAMAX, etc who are not afraid to ask people to glue and paint their scale models if that what makes the model more accurate.
Laogeodritt: @plummeting_sloth Thanks for the discussion. My area of research is far removed from this, but this topic was among the most interesting bits of research in biomed I've heard about so far (first learned about it via conference keynote given by Dr Chan a few years ago, hence the namedrop earlier =V )
kenohki2: Dear LoadingReadyRun I may have found some of those nippers you guys were asking about the other day
Nigouki: on one hand, this makes Bandai kits a great entry point for people who never build ANYTHING. but on the other it's very hard to get people to make the jump to "actual" model kits
robo__nixon: cheer100 Dear Ian. If a person happened to be in Japan in say a month, any Rhythm Cafe gamescandidates that I should look out for?
coolbond: what is alex building?
plummeting_sloth: @Laogeodritt @orionsrise1 Not a problem! It's been fun chatting, particularly with the giant weight of getting thsi thing writing off my back!
Robot_Bones: Not crazy? That's a bold assumption
NimrodXIV: s t i c k
Nigouki: sorry for the walls of text, but i've had many of these discussions before because I participate in local Gunpla and IPMS groups, and it's kinda hard to get them to learn from eachother
plummeting_sloth: IN ROD WE TRUST
FireFlower18: kbutwhy
Rockario: Hooray for inanimate carbon rods!
Jorge4hg: the stick
tehcrashxor: Has Ian gotten the Mini yet?
kenohki2: LoadingReadyRun will do
MoxSully: @Nigouki I find your assertation that Bandai's kits are somehow lesser because they're snap fit and color accurate pretty condescending though
lemmel: Stick for sticking things
robo__nixon: lol
MoxSully: I've glued and painted and sanded- I don't want to build "real" model kits, I want to build Gundam kits.
robo__nixon: Ok. just curious
hoktauri: I'm quite happy with my Gundam kits as well
Arclight_Dynamo: Right. We're shipping Ian a real, full-size taiko drum... Kappa
orionsrise1: @plummeting_sloth next time tell them you want to try gold. it's not really soluble in the human body and you can steal little bits to resell later! lrrHAM
MoxSully: Additionally, Bandai's molding process is far and away better than anything I've seen from Kotobukiya.
robo__nixon: Ps4 compatiable taiko drums . . . .hmmmm
kenohki2: LoadingReadyRun which channel in the discord would I message about this
NimrodXIV: safety third
RealGamerCow: Featureless Rod is my Sex Pistols cover band.
CobaltShurikenReborn: was that a pager?
MoxSully: Hobby elitism is dumb is what I'm saying. Don't be so quick to judge people.
plummeting_sloth: @orionsrise1 they actually do make Gold-based MOF's. Rather expensive, unfortunately
CobaltShurikenReborn: oh its a lighter, im dumb
RealGamerCow: In b4 "Foomp!"
LoadingReadyRun: @kenohki2 A great question! And yet, I'm the wrong person to ask because I don't know what channels we have in the Discord. Mods?
Lysander_Gustav: sprue is a great sounding word
Baldrash: Curses.
CobaltShurikenReborn: rip
plummeting_sloth: but yeah, lovely to have a TTSF where I can talk and not in the background where I'm elbow deep in a spectrometer
Arclight_Dynamo: I'm sure Ian has a solvent you can put in there...
korvys: No, you have to bet your finger
gawag_: Just don’t cut off any fingers
korvys: Oh, that IS the reference
korvys: goo
korvys: *good
itomeshi: Odd time to tune in... Alex is going to burn a finger off?
plummeting_sloth: wait, what wager?
gawag_: Make sure you have a bag of ice handy
orionsrise1: lol I figured. whitch means trying to Nick a few grams becomes impossible
Lysander_Gustav: don't t you folks have a blowtorch?
gawag_: And don’t tell the actors guild
DoodlestheGreat: But it's not TTSF if something doesn't catch fire!
plummeting_sloth: only a moderate amount of fire!
Xafty: @Arclight_Dynamo as a note, ive used multiple solvents in a zippo before. the only one aside from zippo fluid that worked was whatever the hell is in the product Goof Off!
DoctorCactus: Have you tried summoning satan himself?
stateofcomatose: Hey now Alex, we don't watch this show for cautious behavior
kenohki2: Ok
LoadingReadyRun: @kenohki2 Crew-friends!
orionsrise1: Hodor is streaming? what is she streaming? and where?
plummeting_sloth: Welp, that's gonna be a fun mailtime in a few months
LoadingReadyRun: @orionsrise1 "lunarjade" She's streaming Shibuya Scramble.
Juliamon: orionsrise1 she streams over at LunarJade
orionsrise1: you know what the moon base needs? oxy-acetylene
LoadingReadyRun: A rare time when we mention other streamers on our stream. ^)_(^
orionsrise1: maybe check that out later
Nigouki: MoxSully In the end you should build what you want to build, you do you. But it's also entirely correct that Bandai deliberately does not use their full ability for their Gundam kits. The proof in that is that their Star Wars kits have an order of magnitude finer detail than their Gundam kits. They specifically targer Gunpla at a separate audience. But it doesn't mean it stops people from completely rebuilding their kits to their own standards. That's part of the fun of it: to take a kit you fin
orionsrise1: Ian. a thought occurs to me. gold leaf Oda Nobunaga crest on the front!
Crashzxs: some less... turgid... string Kappa
Xafty: i just find the process of building gunpla relaxing. sadly i cant display anything because catrs
coolbond: dear dr alex what are you building and have you ever tried your hand at model bashing?
plummeting_sloth: oh, shoot. I have a leather project I could be starting

orionsrise1: yea that's a button!
plummeting_sloth: bilge pump time!
Roadhog123: I seem to recall folding the thread back on itself working quite well. A bend can't fray, so it fits better.
Curua: Coins as buttons are pretty rad.
wicker_knight: @Xafty my mother likes collecting things, and also loves cats. She has solved this by collecting little decorated wooden boxes
Dix: GDI Horner's friends
wicker_knight: they still get knocked over, but they don't break :P
ArcOfTheConclave: Yenny loafers? LoL
plummeting_sloth: oh, that's a good idea. I should use these Thai baht coins for buttons
bill_tinn: teenHEY
orionsrise1: awe, Ian is not my friend
plummeting_sloth: I mean, some putzes are paying you, so I guess you're professional
insane_42: @Alex Killing Floor 2?
orionsrise1: he's just a stranger on the internet
banachspacebar: that one crapshot is relevant here?

Xafty: @wicker_knight im just gonna buy a sturdy display case at some point when i have a house.
wicker_knight: @Xafty BloodTrail
banachspacebar: 566: The Joy
plummeting_sloth: sometimes ya gotta step off that hustle
Herbert_Erpaderp: I'm glad you shared that awesome Sturmtiger on LRL that one time, Alex.
korvys: I'll miss those streams, but you gotta take that time for yourself.
plummeting_sloth: how is the Mini, BTW Ian, if you don't mind me asking?
MoxSully: @Nigouki the star wars kits are more detailed, sure, but they're also not fully articulated walking tanks. I can't take the perfect grade millenium falcon and configure it in to a completely new pose. It doesn't have finger joints I can move. It's not supposed to- it's a space ship. There are certainly concessions to detail being made in Gunpla, but it's important to consider how much of that is to keep them as functional as they are. Part of why I like them so much is because the pose-ability m
RealGamerCow: There was also a tendency for Alex' home streams to become chat therapy sessions, which really puts a toll on the the streamer.
Balthasar_Wiseman: Alex what was your opinion of the Gunhead kit? I have one in shipping
itomeshi: Ah, Big O!
plummeting_sloth: cause it's both a trying and a curing thing, so correct moisture levels is key
MoxSully: @Nigouki I do agree though, that people should build what they like to build. That's what's good about modeling as a hobby- the massive array of choice you get :D
grimpo96: Anybody seen Dimension Highschool yet?
MechaKuuga: Big O has a "interesting" story
itomeshi: Season 2 was REALLY good.
korvys: I am part-way through 3D-printing a Tachikoma model.
Pariah164: "You are a louse, Roger Smith."
Rockario: It's only a problem if you think it is
thunderbird32: I wouldn't say "problem" exactly :P

Pariah164: I love Big O because it was the only anime to be revived because of the audience OUTSIDE Japan, AFAIK.
plummeting_sloth: A Russian mobile ICBM launcher
Rockario: Tsum-Tsum, like the Disney plush-style
itomeshi: Fun fact: it was animated by the same Korean studio that did Batman: The Animated Series.
Dix: *chef kiss*
orionsrise1: huh, it's starting to look like a half of a bag
Pariah164: @itomeshi What was, BigO?
ArcOfTheConclave: fake magic cards.
plummeting_sloth: why bother if someone is just gonna steal your work and burying your traffic
DarkMorford: Yeah, HorribleSubs is not great for fansubbers in general.
wicker_knight: "Fix copyright law and pay your creators"
Agu_Sakku: God yes, so many Animes I enjoy, are not on streaming services at all...
itomeshi: @Pariah164 Actually, Sunrise is Japanese, my bad. But they started on Batman:TAS.
thunderbird32: I did just buy a bootleg Evangelion Blu Ray. You can't get the BluRay in English officially, so...
Pariah164: @itomeshi That is awesome
coolbond: Dear DR Beej thanks for mentioning nobunaga's chef im currently reading through it and i love it, do you know if the japanese version is finished?
Dix: Team Damage is on
orionsrise1: last anime I've watched was bleach
SajuukSjet: so much size savings
BaronSnow: I think it's still running
RonnyConcrete: @thunderbird32 You can't even get any version of Evangelion in certain parts of Nothern Europe because it was never licensed and so many sites are blocking us from accessing it in order to not get into legal trouble
plummeting_sloth: Elitist?! THE DEVIL YOU SAY *drops monocle *
DarkMorford: Oh, if you guys want to talk subtitle and video formats, we can have some *conversations* at PAX or DB. :P
itomeshi: Actually, one of Sunrise's subcontractors, Dong Yang Animation, was Korean. :)
grimpo96: Does anybody have info on Kengan Asura? They just finished it, but the ending leaves stuff wide open for another season. Anything on that?
orionsrise1: duh? I don't know how they lost
thunderbird32: @RonnyConcrete There's a guy on eBay selling the Japanese Blu Ray re-encoded with the subtitles and audio track from the DVD version. They might do international shipping
FITorion: I'm just so happy Chihayafuru season 3 is coming in April.
Dix: I'm sorry WHAT
Gekyouryuu: if the topic hasn't come up already, has anyone seen the Alita: Battle Angel movie? if so, thoughts?
DGZenos: HD DEE DEE DEE
DarkMorford: Yep. DVDs were actually sub-pictures.
coolbond: Dear ian i meant more is the japanese manga finished as according to the wiki last release was in 2015
Nicarrow: hi all
plummeting_sloth: oh man... the DVD wars
EnoTheTonberry: Is that Alex "Man of a Thousand Tiny Parts" Steacy?
DGZenos: is that gundom?
plummeting_sloth: thank you Alex!
BaronSnow: OK, coolbond, I just looked into it, and it's apparently up to volume 23
SajuukSjet: ffmpeg is a beast of a tool
coolbond: then the wiki is not up to date
itomeshi: OCR was invented by the devil. That it works as well as it does for subtitles is impressive.
Dix: give me physical media or R I O T
coolbond: good to know
thunderbird32: Blu-ray needs to continue. Streaming has compression. Strictly trash
Arclight_Dynamo: I like physical media for things I *really* like. I don't want to go watch a film and find Netflix doesn't have it. Bleh.
wicker_knight: As someone who has clients who still store stuff on Cassette Tapes, Physical Media is Not Dead. Customer Ownership is Dead. :(
orionsrise1: god Alex needs to be on every TTSF to translate for me when they go down these rabbit holes
coolbond: fuck blue ray and sonys monopoly
sivakrytos: and places without fast internet access!
RealGamerCow: speaking of physical media, I guess Obama's presidential library is going to be fully digital, with no archivists.
Dix: Digital download is no bueno
SajuukSjet: Blu-ray, 25mbps , your average 'hd' stream, 3-5mbps
Dix: RealGamerCow don't let Mia hear you say 'no archivists' when it comes to digital media
plummeting_sloth: heh, Matt, both my girlfriends are currently dealing with the issues of lack of physical media archival formats in museum stuff
korvys: DBD - Digital Brain Discs - Just jam a disc up your nose

RealGamerCow: Dix I learned about the story from an archivist friend who is *very* upset
plummeting_sloth: to recover about 10 years of court info
FITorion: well there is those Petabyte quarter size crystal storage things...
thunderbird32: @plummeting_sloth That can't be cheap. Open reel decks are getting popular with the hipsters nowadays.
orionsrise1: I just got fiber optic I in my area after almost 5 years of yelling at my DSL provider
BaronSnow: coolbond, Volume 23 just released January 16th
wicker_knight: WAIT, IS THERE A NEW PERSONA PARODY gabyWow
7gorobei: @LoadingReadyRun has Alex seen/heard about the Tank Mechanic Simulator game?
wicker_knight: *ancient Hiimdaisy reference*
itomeshi: The physical storage doesn't matter. The fidelity is what matters.
RonnyConcrete: The National Library in Norway is mandated to get a physical copy of absolutely every form of media, to the degree of you getting fined if you don't send a physical copy to it
Dix: See a TON of Star Trek TNG ship designs
itomeshi: For example, PNG and FLAC are lossless. That's fine! And as a file-based format, you can replicate it and back it up.
thunderbird32: LOL
DarkMorford: GOTTEM
Dix: H O T T A K E S
SajuukSjet: there's a pretty good Star Wars Day Archeology video from like, 2016, where they talk about that stuff too
itomeshi: The problem is that originals don't get released anymore.
korvys: @LoadingReadyRun So what part is is Alex working on - Like, where does that piece fit into the completed model?
EnoTheTonberry: Zaku?
EnoTheTonberry: Nobody uses Zaku
coolbond: hey saab makes great airplanes
Rockario: So the popsicle stick house I made in the first grade is a scratch-build, but the super-castle I made out of several lego sets is a kitbash
SajuukSjet: Star Wars Archeology Panel >> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JUafi3EWBY8
plummeting_sloth: At NARA, there was a bunch of Congressional Letters where they had to go recover tehe actual documents because the first digitization attempts of physical media had degraded to the point during transfers that they were becoming unreadable
itomeshi: @Korvys I might be wrong, but I think that's the bottom frame, with the tubes being the wheel axels?
TacitusVigil: Yeah, there's so much Star Trek kitbashing, by the show and by fans.
Herbert_Erpaderp: I keep all the left over bits from all my kits for these reasons.
FITorion: take 100 kits. Make something using their parts.
TacitusVigil: Heck, the Nebula and New Orleans classes are just kitbashed Galaxy's. :D
Herbert_Erpaderp: Here's a kitbash I did. https://i.imgur.com/09ZKdUu.jpg
thunderbird32: The Oberth is pretty, but its layout makes no sense. lol
Dix: And that kids, is what we call a callback
Q_sic: The Star Wars ships are a good example of kit-bashing
plummeting_sloth: weee!
niccus: are there leather gundams
TacitusVigil: DS9 did a lot of canon kitbashing too. USS Yeager is a kibashed Intrepid and Maquis raider. "Let's combine Voyager and the Maquis ship...literally" :D
LoadingReadyRun: Can you people at home hear music?
Brianlive: Very slightly
TacitusVigil: I cannot.
Brianlive: almost nothing
Rockario: It just came on, quietly
TacitusVigil: Oh yeah, it's super quiet.
coolbond: baronsnow where did you find this info i can only seem to find the wiki and it says the latest volume was 13 released july 16 2015
coolbond: if you got a better source i would love to have it
Brianlive: It sounds like a cross between Mega Man music and an anime opening
LoadingReadyRun: I don't have much training on the more advanced parts of Paul's nifty tools.
LoadingReadyRun: So I'm figuring out everything as I go.
LoadingReadyRun: Anyway, back in a second.
Nigouki: this actually brings us back to Bandai's shenanigans :3 they've been mostly standardizing their High Grade joints so that you can just swap limbs easily. Gundam Build Fighters and Build Divers shows are a great encouragement of those possibilities.
Nigouki: Standardized joints are often another impediment for accuracy of representing the design, but it opens up a different door that Bandai wants people to go through.
BaronSnow: coolbond, I started with Baka-Updates, and then through Mangadex I hit Bookwalker to see what the latest volume they had for sale was
Kumakaori: more topol?! I was just catching hte last vod today :D.
Juliamon: Kumakaori they have a fan for the fumes this time, it's not nearly as vulgar
Kumakaori: XD
supercrypticcommand: Has anyone here ever cited the 5th ed PHB in MLA?
plummeting_sloth: oh chat, speaking of projects and things that happened while I was deep in the thesis mines, an outfit I've been working on made the paper!
Kumakaori: @Juliamon, good to know

ANeMzero: Ian likes to live dangerously?

AegeusEvander: why not RuBisCO
Jake_the_guy: red-stop, yellow-check in, green-good

Herbert_Erpaderp: Never not test fit

grimpo96: YES
Ashiok_Nightmare_Beaver: yes?
orionsrise1: was that Japanese skelator?
grimpo96: Trigun, skelator memes, and neko-san
thunderbird32: What about the Trigun soundtrack? Tsunio Imhori (sp?) is really awesome.

UnknownGerm: he was the asshole friend, the one that nearly every friend group has
Arclight_Dynamo: I've seen him in two roles: Ross, and the officer in Band of Brothers who is basically Ross. So I assume that's just him.
orionsrise1: weren't they all kind of dicks tho?
thunderbird32: So... James Kappa
TacitusVigil: @Arclight_Dynamo In my head canon, that's his grandfather or something.
Arclight_Dynamo: @TacitusVigil Pffff.
ANeMzero: orionsrise1: That was my read on them..
TacitusVigil: I thought the Ferengi were originally supposed to be the replacement threat for Klingons too.
plummeting_sloth: @Arclight_Dynamo My favorite reading of Band of Brothers is the adventures of Easy Company as they try to stick it to Ross
Dix: Yeah TacitusVigil they were supposed to be the newer big baddie but it never panned out
Arclight_Dynamo: @TacitusVigil They were/ They were meant to be menacing.
UnknownGerm: TacitusVigil they sure were, and then they realized the fandom could not take tham as a serious threat
Arclight_Dynamo: I think the Cardassians were the second kick at that can.
thunderbird32: @TacitusVigil If they'd have come up with the Cardasians earlier, that would have worked, but no one would have ever bought the Ferengi in that slot
TacitusVigil: Yeah, not menacing, unfortunate anti-Semitic implications.
orionsrise1: were the charactures of say people of a Semitic vein?
plummeting_sloth: Sadly, the perspective on the TOPOL is in the Gregorian Calendar, so you need to shift your view by a couple fo weeks
TacitusVigil: @thunderbird32 The Borg ended up filling that gap first. Arguably bringing back the Romulans at the end of season 2 did it better as an ongoing Cold War thing.
SajuukSjet: the trick is not having that single, 1TB HDD failing on you
TacitusVigil: Wait, end of season 1?
UnknownGerm: seabatYIKES
plummeting_sloth: AHHH
korvys: @plummeting_sloth Well don't have a Greg, but we do have an Ian, so at least that GregorIan calendar should work.
TacitusVigil: When is the frozen satellite episode?
silvalunae: god why ; ;
TacitusVigil: End of season 2 is that terrible Riker Clip Show, right?
TacitusVigil: The only clip show Star Trek ever did.
Rockario: @SajuukSjet That's why you compile everything onto the drive, but keep the CDs
SajuukSjet: rockario: if you're thinking the CD-Rs are failing, they're not a viable part of the backup
plummeting_sloth: it's a pooch!
LoadingReadyRun: @SajuukSjet I would first keep them on my NAS. Then dump them to a smaller physical drive to bring places.

plummeting_sloth: ooh, actually I should sign up for the knife-making workshop at the Tool Library this spring. I can pick from a different stamps and hopefully make a reefing knife
Texan_Reverend: There are channels basically dedicated to testing and demonstrating different washing machines.
niccus: knife youtube is also a journey
plummeting_sloth: aww, I thought it was the guy who would accompany his very noisy washing machine on guitar
Texan_Reverend: Including one hour videos of an entire wash cycle.
ArcOfTheConclave: Boxnard!
korvys: Bird twitter exists, but it's on the other twitter, twitter.net
plummeting_sloth: see, this is what I was hoping Washing Machine youtube is
Rockario: Every possible interest has a community as long as more than two people who talk to eachother
Texan_Reverend: Yeah, Speed Queen went down the tubes with the 2018 model went they shifted to using front loader drive parts for their top loaders in order to flush out mechanical inventory after discontinuing the front loaders.
tipulsar85: There are Twitterbot toys For Cats.
Crashzxs: there is an xkcd for everything...
plummeting_sloth: An absolute unit, that lad
Texan_Reverend: Top loaders are expected to die off soon, as well. Thus, they don't care about the dilution of the brand.
ContingentCat: I thought Ian was going to ask if speed/filter queen could blend
korvys: Ok, but Ed Balls isn't Scottish, is he?
heyluckyannie: I hope we see the return of "I ATE YOUR TOAST" guy from Crapshots someday.
thunderbird32: Didn't the Impossible Project reverse engineer it?
UnknownGerm: now they take nearly an hour to develop
mercano82: They know the original recipie, it's just too environmentally toxic to make.
Arclight_Dynamo: Let that be a lesson: hug an archivist today.
thunderbird32: Or is it not exact?

Texan_Reverend: So, the Maytag commercial-grade top loader is my current fav. 10 year limited parts warranty and 5 year full parts and labor. Plus, it just dang works.
NimrodXIV: once you get used to the dialect, it's not so bad
Arclight_Dynamo: Likely it's written in Scots, then, not English.
Arclight_Dynamo: Similar but distinct language.
korvys: Have you every watched the movie Filth? I almost had to turn on subtutles.
SajuukSjet: and that's not getting into Welsh and Gaelic :D
tipulsar85: Ian are you in channeling your inner TOP GEAR?

ANeMzero: Alex will be done putting tiny fragile parts into the model when the model is done.
ProfessorOfBirdLaw: ^
Laogeodritt: I'm getting flashbacks to when I was doing super precise linework while painting with kids 2m away from me shaking the table. (I was working at a community art space.)
Texan_Reverend: Ian, it also doesn't have the auto-sensing filler. Just full or half tub.
thunderbird32: Clangin and bangin?
wicker_knight: Welcome to the stream Matt gabyTehe
plummeting_sloth: he's gotta pull it out of the trap he set for the roadrunner first
RealGamerCow: Ian, why not hold that nail in place with tweezers/pliers?
orionsrise1: does Ian have an anvil? is Osaka not as good as Tokyo?
slopoppotamus: Ian is Wile E Coyote
ANeMzero: I missed that it was NSFW parodies and not just.. normal parodies.
ANeMzero: Glad no one could see my screen when I did that google
UnknownGerm: now it's just dissolving the calcium in your bones
RealGamerCow: Your thumb or the glue?
thunderbird32: Jacob!
ArtemisKing: Hi Jacob!
Aenir798: An invader!
ContingentCat: Surprise Jacob!
Mysticman89: a wild jacob appears
NimrodXIV: IRL raid, again
jadedcynic: heya Jacob! Calmed down any?
kamelion84: lrrWOW
slopoppotamus: HI JACOB
Banrael: Hello Jacob
ContingentCat: F
karmakamikaze: Jacob! How was Resident Evil?
EnoTheTonberry: Jacob! My Favorite Pairing with Graham
TacitusVigil: It's No-Face!
silvalunae: hey Jacob!
orionsrise1: Make him bang your anvil Ian! wait.......
korvys: Jacob!
tipulsar85: Tonight on TTSF, Ales glues, while Ian becomes a british Show host.
ContingentCat: importantly a MODEL of a russian nuclear thing
TacitusVigil: Clip it!
silvalunae: xD
Aenir798: Bye Jacob
Mysticman89: herllo internet voice man!
plummeting_sloth: leave before that knife gets used
ArcOfTheConclave: cursed!
Rockario: Good news, we could see how bad that went from here
niccus: bonk
jadedcynic: It was a surgical raid :D
ContingentCat: good night Jacob
ViralStitch: He's a PROFESSIONAL!
NimrodXIV: "first"
UnknownGerm: you could use the vise to straighten it out first
slopoppotamus: nope
orionsrise1: is it brass?
jadedcynic: Ian: Now the game TRULY begins. Kappa
Laogeodritt: Well this was a perfect moment to clip https://clips.twitch.tv/FunnyTawdryBaconOpieOP

plummeting_sloth: one of the things Alex is crafting today is a withering look
itsrebbers: Can we do it with less "now you know"?
ContingentCat: Does BBC mean anything else?
SajuukSjet: Broken Biscuit Company
DoctorCactus: hammer usage, right next to scalpel usage looks safe!
Anaerin: Out of interest, would it not be easier to insert the rivet through the hole, then use a die andhammer to round over the other end?
orionsrise1: big banging whoaaa
chesul: BBC means at least two things.
ProfessorOfBirdLaw: I thin it's also an English news network.
Soulsinger_Again: Now I'm afraid Ian thinks WE think he's comparing himself to Nigela Lawson.
Jake_the_guy: uhhh
tipulsar85: You are using the hammer like Clarkson.
plummeting_sloth: erm, yes, if the term is searched on certain adult media sites
jadedcynic: British Broadcasting Corporation, and
jadedcynic: *ahem*
jadedcynic: "We'll tell you when you're older"
ANeMzero: Boston Bullion Cubes?
KinoGami: Big Blue Counters Kappa
Soulsinger_Again: "The great taste of Boston, now in a cube!"
ProfessorOfBirdLaw: Boys Building Crafts
Anaerin: Ian, Out of interest, would it not be easier to insert the rivet through the hole so the pin is sticking up (rather than the head), then use a die andhammer to round over the other end? The flatness of the "anvil" against the knife handle would keep it straight.
UnknownGerm: what style of blade is that? I've never seen on like that
DoctorCactus: yaaaay let's cut things now!
Bobtheninjagoldfish: and ogre killing knife? IT'S +4 AGAINST OGRES!
jadedcynic: kidney blade?
Anaerin: Blade is sharp, though not THAT sharp. Sharp enough to be dangerous, not sharp enough to be useful.
ContingentCat: this is definitly the right time to read the instructions
plummeting_sloth: Instructions By Dave's Spokesman
tipulsar85: Does the knife need another Blade?
Herbert_Erpaderp: You don't oil your tongue?
thunderbird32: Why is Ian reading that like Dave Spokesman
Laogeodritt: Tāng. Tung. Totally the same thing. Yup.
Soulsinger_Again: Caution: Aim Away From Face
RealGamerCow: This is some Bang Good bullshit isnt it?
jadedcynic: because it's more entertaining that way?
thunderbird32: That's fair :D
orionsrise1: that's another dangerous work search!
ProfessorOfBirdLaw: @Herbert_Erpaderp I chuckled at your comment, and then I read your name and laughed out load.
Herbert_Erpaderp: huehuehue
ProfessorOfBirdLaw: *typo
pinpointersk: So what is happening here?
jadedcynic: also, because he's reciting it blind - not having read it before
Rockario: It also works on microphones lrrBEEJ
plummeting_sloth: @Laogeodritt , no see contemporary sources called in the Tang dynasty, but now that it's in the past tense its the Tung
Soulsinger_Again: @pinpointersk Something's going on that's not quite clear.
Laogeodritt: @plummeting_sloth Pahaha
jadedcynic: @pinpointersk two things: on our left: hand-crafting of a knife, and on the right, assembly of a model kit
pinpointersk: @Soulsinger_Again thank you
tipulsar85: R U ok Alex?
ProfessorOfBirdLaw: I believe he stated the model is a Russian rocket truck of some sort?
Anaerin: Make sure it's lined up with the tendons in your fingers for maximum grip...
Juliamon: !topol
LRRbot: Alex is building this kit: https://www.scalemates.com/kits/revell-03303-topol-ss-25-sickle--975086 (generously provided by PunkRockZoologist)
jadedcynic takes a deep focusing breath of sympathy for Alex's concentration
orionsrise1: and while gripping said blade, make lots of up and down movements
ApepiOfDuat: yowza
Aziraphalesshop: I just remembered I sent those tweezers lol
jadedcynic: @ProfessorOfBirdLaw yeah it's a 'Topol' a soviet ballistic missile carrier/launcher
ZoBo_: does it realllly "need" those bits? :P
UnknownGerm: uhhh
ProfessorOfBirdLaw: Thank you!
slopoppotamus: Why sudden grandmaster flash
ContingentCat: I was just about to ask, thanks
BaronSnow: speaking of podcasting, is Ano Ani still a thing?
Mattmitchell45: Demi is the best
plummeting_sloth: ah, I love that gentlement
tipulsar85: I would love to catch up with Season 2 of QWRPline. I'm just waiting for it to release.

ContingentCat: welp one more added to my collections of far more podcasts than I have time to listen to
slopoppotamus: As someone from LA, I feel I should be insulted
ANeMzero: I was really glad that the change to the RSS causing a bunch of LRRs podcasts to show a bunch of "new" old episodes didn't affect Qwerpline
Rockario: Wikipedia has Niel C as living in Massachusetts
Soulsinger_Again: Is anyone else in the boat where, sometimes, people start talking about current celebrities, and you're at a place in your life where they could literally be making every single name up and you'd never know the difference?

silvalunae: @Soulsinger_Again -raises hand-
orionsrise1: tho the tarp budget may need augmenting first
Soulsinger_Again: Kids React To: Enuii
plummeting_sloth: there was an, I think, Ask Prudy column about a young teen writing in to talk about how their own advice-blogging mother basically strip-mined their relationship, with very little anonymity, for profit
CrazymattCaptain: how will penelope react to google searching herself in a few years?
Rockario: I mean: names, birthdays, addresses, phone numbers have kinda always been mostly public information. It's got a lot more reach now
orionsrise1: I BROUGHT YOU INTO THIS WORLD AND I CAN TAKE YOU OUT!
Mattmitchell45: The internet was a mistake
Xenguin47: Oh! I remember reading about that blogger.
tipulsar85: Where did the model go wrong?
ProfessorOfBirdLaw: Ian is saying exactly what my first thought was.
Rockario: As long as you can remember it, that's the important part
Anaerin: "What was the name of your first pet?" "Marilyn Manson's Debut Album"
SajuukSjet: that's when you enter 32 chracters of random entropy
ANeMzero: The problem comes when you get power of attorney and actually change your parents names to be a random string of 26 characters
silvalunae: I never thought of it that way but now I'm glad I do
karmakamikaze: Ian, what is your password manager of choice?
ContingentCat: I thought the point of security questions was that when you died people who know you sufficiently well can get into the accounts
jadedcynic: cast aside passWORDS - start making pass PHRASES; push the max char limit of whatever your entering
Aenir798: We're silently tolerating it.
plummeting_sloth: I do usually use, as my 'write your own question and answer" the "What is delicious? Candy"
SajuukSjet: these days, no matter what password manager you pick, it should handle 2FA
Arclight_Dynamo: Beej, there was a recent CBC Marketplace on social engineering that you might be interested in. Without *any* information, they were able to seize control of the CBC anchor's bank account.
thunderbird32: I prefer Enpass because it supports Linux. One Password doesn't
thunderbird32: At work we use Thycotic, but that costs a butt-load
Anaerin: Ian: You did see a recent (as in the last few days) article about how ALL password managers have been broken into, and there's nothing they can do about it.
Soulsinger_Again: @jadedcynic I'm a fan of making the password the acronym of a key phrase.
SajuukSjet: all? that seems... farfetched
orionsrise1: I just use all the numbers
thunderbird32: @Anaerin Got a link?
Soulsinger_Again: E.g. "Iw2syp4mmdt" - I want to strangle you people for making me do this.
ContingentCat: sergeJustRight good job Alex
tipulsar85: Support Your Local Governor, the lost sequel to the James Garner Classic, "Support Your Local Sheriff".
ANeMzero: Enhance!
RealGamerCow: Any lock can be broken. It's a matter of making the lock difficult enough for people not to bother.
Anaerin: https://fossbytes.com/password-manager-severe-flaw-ram/ Here's a link, though it's not particularly detailed, unfortunately.
Soulsinger_Again: "Normal View."
Aenir798: How did you repair them?
tipulsar85: That is some detail. Good Job Alex!
silvalunae: I would have rage quit so hard
mercano82: Chat will remember this.
azureHaights: Pepperidge Farm will remember.
RealGamerCow: So did they not include those on the bigger parts just to make it diffcult?
Soulsinger_Again: @silvalunae I know, right? I mean, how steady do his hands have to be for this?!
Rockario: They're vitally necessary if we ever hope to use this as a blueprint in the future. When we need ICBM carriers again
jadedcynic: @Soulsinger_Again hope it's a long key phrase - the length should be at least 8 char (and hopefully MUCH longer for maximizing entropy)
ProfessorOfBirdLaw: Well, that's the whole point of a model, right?
silvalunae: @Soulsinger_Again he might as well get his surgen's license after this
plummeting_sloth: alright, I've had too much brandy on my first night off in a bit, so I'm gonna down a bunch of water and head to bed. Goodnight LRR and chat. It's been nice catching up
silvalunae: does cori know about your side pieces
RealGamerCow: goodnight plummeting_sloth and congrats again
Soulsinger_Again dives for cover.
orionsrise1: wow! shots fired
SmashTCG: alix, stop MOcking 15 year old me. and 18 year old me
SmashTCG: and 25 year old me
Texan_Reverend: What if you like them rough?
Anaerin: "...We found that in [1Password 7, 1Password 4, Dashlane, KeePass, and LastPass, all for Windows 10], trivial secrets extraction was possible from a locked password manager, including the master password in some cases, exposing up to 60 million users that use the password managers in this study to secrets retrieval from an assumed secure locked state."
ContingentCat: Don't breath it in
jadedcynic: @Rockario when we are invaded by a malevolent alien species, who destroy our industrial base and we have to rebuild a mechanized army for resistance
jadedcynic: Alex - it's winter in north america; dates are out-of-season here
jadedcynic: that's why it's so hard to find any
Anaerin: They didn't test MacOS, that I can see.
jadedcynic: F.U.D.
Soulsinger_Again: Don't speak to me about Windows 10. That's a daily fight with the [redacted] update manager.
Rockario: Is THAT why he's called Fud?
thunderbird32: At this point, nothing is safe, might as well kiss my data goodbye.
jadedcynic: Fudd vs FUD
thunderbird32: I'll just use my password manager, and follow best practices and hope for the best.
Rockario: @jadedcynic The extra d is for determination
Rockario: Sounds like real fuddy-duddies
silvalunae: oh hey, I have a new word for myself
orionsrise1: wait. are you saying my using my gun to open my beer isn't a good way to use my AR-15?
SajuukSjet: oh, the SuperMICRO embedd
azureHaights: @orionsrise1 It depends on what part of the clipozine you use lrrBEEJ
thunderbird32: Oh yeah, I forgot about that story. It just fell off the face of the earth
Arclight_Dynamo: *Cough* Google Nest hidden mics *Cough*
Bobtheninjagoldfish: are you going to wait to work on your sealing strap until you figure out what hard ware you can get to facilitate that?
UnknownGerm: was there any credence to the fearmongering around USB devices?
orionsrise1: @azurehaights oops got me there
SajuukSjet: unknowngerm: there's many problems with USB devices :D , which one?
Anaerin: There is also the Intel AMT, which runs on the system without oversight, with complete system access at all levels. If the AMT was pwned, there'd be no way for an end user to know. And AMD has similar issues with their management engine.
SajuukSjet: BadUSB is documented, for instance, and USB killing is a PITA
Soulsinger_Again: Maybe not, but notice that the first thing all of us in the industry do is *immediately* put tape over the cameras and mics.

kenkopin: Hot Glue
ProfessorOfBirdLaw: THICC
Crashzxs: if its worth doing, its worth overdoing
Bobtheninjagoldfish: that's 6 C's worth of THICCCCCC
ContingentCat: but do you like the look of the other way better?
SajuukSjet: unknowngerm: ah, BadUSB, see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nuruzFqMgIw
wicker_knight: okay, after skimming that password manager article, the issue is heavily associated with the way text is cached to memory, which almost certainly means that it's related to efficiency concerns. no idea if that means it'd be replicated on non-windows products
Skyboss1996: RIGHT NOW
Skyboss1996: GO
Banrael: Throwing it out the window now
UnknownGerm: SajuukSjet ahh, didn't know it had a Name
Anaerin: Just don't computer.
Aenir798: Okay (turns off stream)

thunderbird32: The computer was a mistake
itomeshi: Yeah, that microchip in a USB cable is, uh, not fun.

Anaerin: Tandy leather?
jadedcynic: Technophile-early-adopter: "I have my whole house and every possibly connectable appliance or feature connected to the Internet of Things! I can control my whole life from my smartphone!"
SajuukSjet: oh, interesting, for Keepass, that Memory leak stuff is already well known and documented, it seems..... see https://keepass.info/help/base/security.html#secmemprot
SajuukSjet: apparently due to windows itself
Anaerin: In Canada, definitely Tandy Leather.
korvys: @LoadingReadyRun Not really. I use(d) Tandy, which is sort of the hobby-level leather suppliers (in the US, and they had an Australian outlet)
BaronSnow: re: passoword manager thing, I just spoke with a sec professional and he said it's a bunk report
jadedcynic: IT profesional: "The newest piece of tech I own is a laserprinter from 2008, and I keep a loaded gun next to it in case it starts making unexpected noises."
TacitusVigil: @jadedcynic Isn't there a Harrison Ford movie about a tech guy that stalks him and his family/daughter in a house like that?
FiliusRomanus: That sounds about right
orionsrise1: don't buy a buckle, FORGE one of your own!
Anaerin: BaronSnow: Reading the report itself, it doesn't seem so much bunk. Not scrubbing RAM is a big problem.
Aziraphalesshop: Weaver Leather
tipulsar85: You have a Tandy Leather a Ferry away: 8077 King George Blvd Unit 110 & 111, Surrey, BC V3W 5B4, Canada
FiliusRomanus: Ah, the mathematician's answer
TacitusVigil: Didn't someone once send LRR a LRR brand? Ian could have branded his bag. ;)
Aziraphalesshop: Also outfitterssupply.com
Arclight_Dynamo: Looking it up, it seems Vic used to have leather supply stores, but they're pretty much all defunct. You might need to look to Van.
BaronSnow: Anaerin, the answer I was given was "it literally blames password managers for "privileged local access lets you read memory in an OS" which is by design"
emrafool: i just came here to say Bowser
Skyboss1996: What Victoria needs... is a bridge
Skyboss1996: Like a big kickass bridge
ContingentCat: Do you have another branding iron?
tipulsar85: Found a closer location: Tandy Leather Co 610 Yates St, Victoria, BC V8W 1K9
Arclight_Dynamo: @Skyboss1996 People want that so much that the BC government has a webpage explaining why that's physically impossible.
Soulsinger_Again: @Skyboss1996 ...I was positive you were going to say monorail, and I was pumped for the musical number.
Mysticman89: theres a bridge to PEI, I can imagine victoria/vancouver is that much bigger?
Laogeodritt: Vic-Van bridge would've been a freaking impressive engineering feat
korvys: @LoadingReadyRun Ian, BTW, I know I keep saying this, but if I remember, I'll send you (a pdf of) the book that diagram I posted earlier is from - It has many different ways to attach things to other things.
Rockario: It would still be a roundabout drive, right? If it was up where it's practical
TacitusVigil: How long is Confederation Bridge, out of curiosity?
UnknownGerm: clearly the solution is a tunnel Kappa
Skyboss1996: TUNNEL
Skyboss1996: MONORAIL TUNNEL
Skyboss1996: the N1 Rocket
Arclight_Dynamo: Here is the BC government website explaining why the bridge is not physically possible: https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/transportation/transportation-reports-and-reference/reports-studies/vancouver-island/fixed-link
Laogeodritt: IIRC they had been considering some underwater (suspended?) solutions too.
Mysticman89: confederation bridge is 12.9 km or 8 miles
azureHaights: Tunguska: "Hold my kvas"
TacitusVigil: @Arclight_Dynamo Pfft. That's quitter talk.
Soulsinger_Again: @Mysticman89 Isn't there only a bridge *from* PEI?
Arclight_Dynamo: Beej: This is the explosion: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jskD2oz4Nko
FITorion: and also money
Mysticman89: I have no idea on how lanes work on that bridge, but one way only seems weird.
FiliusRomanus: Pchoooo
FITorion: an increase in commerce = and increase in revenue
TacitusVigil: One of them involved syrup, right? :P
Arclight_Dynamo: There was actually a SECOND Halifax explosion during WWII.
Anaerin: TacitusVigil: You're thinking of the Boston Molasses Spill.
Skyboss1996: Knocking off early on a friday
tipulsar85: Tandy Leather Co 610 Yates St, Victoria, BC V8W 1K9
TacitusVigil: @Anaerin Yeah, you're right.
daft_naft: Hey Alex Hey Ian Good Morning/Evening and How much does it smell in there right now?
