cheetoJack: I think my biggest concern is getting the data into a database in a useful form
cheetoJack: fancy visualization would be nice, but just a list would work too
DarkMorford: True.
JediTransmit: Oh man, Doom 2016 is such a cool game.
JediTransmit: Only terrifying part: It came out in 2016...
DarkMorford: We might be able to hook up a Grafana instance to do some basic vis stuff if we're pressed for time, but I'm not super familiar with it.
cheetoJack: I might have a solution actually. You can import live data into a google sheet
cheetoJack: Some of the data the spreadsheet tracks isn't pulled from the game. Things like current driver, clips, etc. So instead I could set up an endpoint that has the data, google sheets pulls the data down there, and then if we want a site for viewing, I could always just embed it somewhere
cheetoJack: we could still use the site for visualization of where the drivers are on the map, speed at places, etc
DarkMorford: That could work, yeah
cheetoJack: It'll feel a bit like it was strapped together with duct tape and super glue, but it would be automated
TehAmelie: 2016. so many centuries ago, it's amazing they can make it still work
Twinklebees hums the E1M1 theme.
PsychoI3oy: I'm just here for the soundtrack
Weagle: !findbutts
LRRbot: Above you?!
Twinklebees: It's pretty great.
TehAmelie: here it is for those who can't just hear it in their head https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BSsfjHCFosw
TXC2: Hello Everybody
DarkMorford: Doesn't look like we get velocity info for every car, unfortunately. Just the "active" one (the car we're watching).
cheetoJack: DarkMorford I'll throw some stuff together to explain what we want and post it in #programming tonight probably
TehAmelie: ahoy
DarkMorford: Sounds good. I'll look through this Python library and see if I can figure out what's broken.
PsychoI3oy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j05hzwQf8pA was the one i was thinking of
cheetoJack: DarkMorford is that pcars2? I could send you what I've done so far to get it working
TehAmelie: weird choice but it works i guess
orbitaltuna: any DOOT yet
DarkMorford: Yeah, pcars2
TehAmelie: heh, "doot" now only reminds me of this advice for musicians
Earthenone: !findquote doot
LRRbot: Could not find any matching quotes.
orbitaltuna: what advice?
TehAmelie: how to learn an instrument: figure out if it is a doot, bleep, bang or a skree instrument. a doot, bleep, bang or skree accordingly.
TehAmelie: -a
PsychoI3oy: what about djent insturments
Twinklebees: I'm pretty sure I've made my guitar make all of those sounds at some point
Theycallmejokke: Shotgun loaded, ready to rip, and/or tear!

NathanJay_GA: Does someone need to straighten the inter-tubes?
seth_erickson: Who's play it forward is this?
HesGotNoPants: what happened?
TXC2: it's Canada, there is no choice in ISPs
Unas84: James, so blame him for all of this
DarkMorford: Not enough interwebs, send spiders.
Anubis169: teenGRAMZ
DentedPockets: Now, is this 1993 Doom, or 2016 Doom?
DarkMorford: (Do not send spiders)
cuttlefishman: So
TXC2: DentedPockets 2016
PhoenixMelior: txc2 there's SOME choice - pick your favourite evil

NojhLivic: cuttlefishman Hmm. Olivia and an Imp?
Lord_ZYRK: DarkMorford uhhh. there's no cancel button on this shipment. Oops.
TXC2: PhoenixMelior I maintain that Telus and shaw are in fact the same company
felixthereflex: really, it's all just the same crap, just from other butt holes
PhoenixMelior: txc2 my dad used to work for Telus - they're not

cuttlefishman: is a real appealing sbip
Unas84: I ship All-the-Demons with All-The-Bullets
TXC2: PhoenixMelior fair enough
Theycallmejokke: If you like pitch blackness and monster closets, I guess ;P
cuttlefishman: *ship
orbitaltuna: it's canadia, where cellular and internets are stuck in the 90's
NojhLivic: CyberdemonXHayden
DarkMorford: Somebody get Heather on the line!
PhoenixMelior: orbitaltuna I mean, also no? I'm on LTE
TheMoatman: Canada: the only place that still has Bell
cuttlefishman: If a Cacodemon opened up a patisserie
cuttlefishman: would it be
TheMoatman: Okay well technically Verizon and AT&T are Bells but they aren't called that anymore
TXC2: you want 90's internet come to my house, where the internet drops if the phone is answered :P
cuttlefishman: a cocoademon
kerbalized_: wait Bell still exists??
Earthenone: !findquote doom
LRRbot: Quote #452: "It might be a thing that we break and fall to its doom... Or it might just be here." —Heather [2015-07-13]
kerbalized_: sweet jesus
LoadingReadyRun: Gonna reset the modem, the internet works, but it should about 100x faster than it's currently clocking in at.
TheMoatman: www.bell.ca
Theycallmejokke: Should some one run to the roof and light the Paul signal
kerbalized_: ah, so theres a clog in the interweb tubes
v_nome: I have to know, what does the Paul signal look like?
kerbalized_: get the plunger
mercano82: I mean, this is Doom. It's meant to be played over dialup.
Theycallmejokke: A singing beard... maybe? :D
TXC2: V-nome his beard of course
Anubis169: @loadingreadyrun that songs like service mode from the ISP's end, mine old ISP did that if my line drops and reconnects too fast
repgam: did i miss it?
Anubis169: sounds*
NojhLivic: repgam Nah. Technical issues we think
Theycallmejokke: No tech trops
Crad0k: i played doom over a LAN in '95, when i was 13
DarkMorford: I thought the Paul signal was a giant "E". Or is an "m". "3"?
TXC2: repgam tech inssues delayed start
kerbalized_: I still vote that we create a text-based Doom version in chat for james to play
Therberus: !next
LRRbot: Next scheduled stream: Play it Forward (James' turn in the Play it Forward hot seat. He's gonna check out 2016's Doom! Game: Doom) at Wed 10:00 AM PDT (11m ago).
orbitaltuna: exits: north, south, door
orbitaltuna: rip n' tear y/n?
Theycallmejokke: y
Lithobraker: to shreds
mercano82: Oh, it's 2016 Doom? I was kinda hoping it was the OG.
Crad0k: idspispopd
daleif: the Paul signal would of course have a beard
TXC2: to be fair, the OG doom is like a 3 hour game
Rufran: is the stream online? I'm not seeing anything
Earthenone: it is not
Novus_Spes: *headbanging intensifies*
Rufran: oh ok
TXC2: so good for one stream, but not exactly a long play
kerbalized_: you open the door. A jump scare alien appears in front of you
Rufran: I got the live notification so I thought it was a problem on my end
orbitaltuna: [insert ascii alien face]
orbitaltuna: ascii art*
repgam converted from a Twitch Prime sub to a Tier 1 sub!
TXC2: Ascii isn't art
daleif: was watching a yt video about og zoom speed running the other day. quite interesting
Creideiki_SE: I wonder if the frame rate of chat is high enough that something like https://soulsphere.org/projects/smmu/textdoom/ would work...
Rufran: if we play text adventure Doom, how long will it take to be eaten by a grue?
orbitaltuna: [insert ascii art of "is this art" meme]
kerbalized_: such meta
Crad0k: yeah, speedrunning kinda started with doom
kerbalized_: side question, didnt they just get fiber installed?
TXC2: the Fibre is for uploading to YT
Rufran: I thought mario 64 was the big one that kind of started up the speedrunning community? or maybe super metroid?
adelius3: mario 64 speedrunning is like poetry in motion. When i first saw a run I cried.
Anubis169: nah, though they're massively popular now
Saulens181: Hey, are we playing as a personification on extreme-but-necessary means agains a symbolic and literal representation of corporate greed eclipsing any possible ethics and consideration for the world outside it's profit earnings?
Rufran: not that there weren't people already speedrunning before, just when it became popular
Saulens181: oh wait this isn't cam's channel
TXC2: Doom is the Beowulf of speedrunning, Mario64 is the Hamlet
TehAmelie: Speedrundemos the site started with Quake, i believe
NojhLivic: The internet facilitiated the "community" aspect of speed running, but it existed prior.
daleif: then what is golden eye?
Crad0k: m64 was probably the one that made it really big, but there was organised doom speedrun sites in the 90s
Rufran: coincidentally, I just watched a video on E1M1 getting knocked down to 8 seconds recently
TXC2: daleif I dont know, something by Marlow maybe?
Saulens181: oooh
TXC2: CONTACT!
NojhLivic: Signal
