ComradeMik: isn't buggy?
oddmeg: so i duno how bad it s now, but i remember hearing that destiny has its lore kinda very seperate from the gameplay? and now im thinking about that, i wonder if thats a statement in a way about how the game views things? like it creates a framework in which your, violent , actions are kinda detached from history and context. it imagines all conflict as momentary skirmishes, in which you must act, in a set of limited ways, regardless of context.
Foxmar320: Im sure when Bungie comes back from holiday they will fix stuff

Pazy160: Theres so much in Destiny 2 that I love, lore and basic combat especially, but I dont think it will ever be a series of systems that I ever truly love. Instead, I should embrace these streams to get what I love without the frustrations.
frankscx: was star trek future being post-scarcity/post-capitalism established in TOS, or later series?
thundershot879: heard a theory that those animals are the worms and ahamkara
noahgamemaster: what's up cam
thundershot879: between the flowers
w_nightshade: @frankscx Absolutely TOS
DarkAbyssKeeper: Sort of mother and judge/executioner?
w_nightshade: It was underlined heavily in TNG
Pazy160: I deeply love the money situation in Star Trek. They are confident that there is no concept of money, but also that federation officers get currency to spend on gambling at fixed points and losing it is bad.
honeyroasted95: mom and dad?
kumatsu: oh, the Game of Life
oddmeg: it imagines the universe as opposing forces from the very beggining. I know very little about the game but it seems like destiny fundamentally comes from a viewpoint that oposition is constant and binary. Like your "enemies" are your opposition, there is no winning people over or acting in solidarity. is this the case or am i over-extrapolating?
Loonatic93: I still find it amusing that much of the tech in 90's Star Trek and B5 is inferior to what we have now. Things like Tablets, Mobile Phones, and even WiFi seems to be really lacking on those ships and spacestations.
electroswagnetism: Other side note, I think it's neat that The Nine seem to be featured on the cover of this lore book
asymmetrikon: destiny is very essentially manichaean
ashteranic: wait, do we consider conway's game of life as a turing complete computer?

thundershot879: the usage of the word "vex" is extremely concerning
mosartov: isn't it more... vexing?
raven534: And no one harvests the free-ish energy?
BishopSansPants: Star Wars is interesting because of the concept of balance and what that means vs what the characters think it means.
honeyroasted95: light side... always sticky
Mangledpixel: it's a concept that is central to most fantasy
mtgzelda: is Kathleen ok
ardcollier: also, yeah, @ashteranic, the Game of Life is considered Turing-complete
Mangledpixel: and, by extension, most videogames
ardcollier: (I'd love to see the lore book try to explain this in terms of Baba Is You, given that.)
oddmeg: that "they learned these rules because they were these rules", is this a reference to the idea that sentient life is how the universe can know itself? does it imagine these forces as composed of all things including sentient life? so they evolve?
Loonatic93: So, now that it's going to be 2020, does that mean Free State of Northern California and Night City are going to be a thing this year?
CWaltz86: lrrPAUL

Laserbeaks_Fury: Not even "doesn't like the result" but doesn't like there is only 1 result
Veskiel: cam can you just make audiobooks please

Dog_of_Myth: This lore is from the Darkness perspective. It could be the truth or a version of it or a lie.
asthanius: And therein lies the reason for calling one a "Winnower", not a "Destroyer". Winnowing has a reason behind it. Winnowing removes that which isn't wanted, or needed. It's not inherently evil.
oddmeg: wow thats a very,,modern western / liberal way of thinking about cooperation and the role of individualism and society.

ponbern: Well someone has a bit of a god complex
MaverickArtist: @arcoftheconclave that is kind of what I was driving at. so I appreciate it :)
oddmeg: thats one way of thinking about innovation and competition but its not the only way, and its not culturally neutral
Wicker_Knight: I feel like the Winnower and the Abyss from Dark Souls would find a lot to like about each other
Hadini1537: What’s your power level
Alahmnat: yes and no, competition can be good, but it's not *inherently* good. Darkness takes that just a _bit_ too far I think.
electroswagnetism: fitness according to darwin was just "ability to survive until one could reproduce" iirc
frankscx: this is so far the best stream i have watched during 2020

Wicker_Knight: @oddmeg the Gardener has power, the Winnower doesn't dispute that. It disuputes the idea that power can be used to protect. If you choose not to protect, then the Gardener has used its power to destroy itself
ardcollier: (one of the first Bungie games was Pathways Into Darkness, ha ha)
UnseenAcademical: I think it's interesting that in a game that stresses the choice between destroying and building in the lore, the core mechanic is destructive. It seems to support the idea that the game structure has a bias towards the Darkness.
Alahmnat: hashtagbothsides
Dog_of_Myth: @havtorn_ The Darkness gave us an artifact that is using to speak to us.
TheMoatman: @havtorn_ it's possible it's just the darkness muttering to itself and "we" aren't actually aware of it, even though we the players are
TheMoatman: But it also could be something the darkness transmitted to us during the cutscene in the pyramid
Duwani1: Couldn't either one be LYING at any point?
soft_sunset: this is very interesting when you take into account that cutscene with eris in the pyramid
Dog_of_Myth: @Duwani1 Yes
TemporallyAwry: jeez ... that's heavy.
Wicker_Knight: @UnseenAcademical As the Winnower says, it presents the simplest and most enduring option _within the rules of the universe as they are_ i.e. the rules of a shooter-rpg. But, Destiny the game is more than that
electroswagnetism: eris :(
Wicker_Knight: or, you know, maybe it isn't
Dyllbert: Yay
electroswagnetism: Well, delay in perpetuity
Alahmnat: the pattern doesn't need our help, just our acquiescence.
IronnButterfly: wha huh? LRR playing Destiny 2, aka my favorite game right now?
nerhydas72: @soft_sunset true, i've been wondering what that cutscene meant
Dog_of_Myth: The new lore book that came out this season is interesting as well

LRRbot: lrrSPOT Thanks for subscribing, Dyllbert! (Today's storm count: 81)
Ashen_Prime: Is it noted elsewhere what The Pattern is that the Gardener dislikes so much?
officedge: certainly, our existence is a minor inconvenience
UnseenAcademical: @Wicker_Knight I'd argue that it isn't, because all the things you can do outside the shooter rpg is gated behind the shooter rpg.
Wicker_Knight: @UnseenAcademical ~shrug~ then the Darkness is right
wickcandle1873: or maybe both
Scrubbodiestobears: My theory is that the Sword Logic and the Vex are two sides of the same coin- possibly working towards DIFFERENT shapes but they're both working towards a single, perfect, final shape
Dog_of_Myth: Sword logic is a variation of the logic of the Darkness
Wicker_Knight: @UnseenAcademical the pattern is woven by all of us, oh player mine lrrCREEPL lrrCREEPR
Angnor33: I tend to think it's the sword logic. But that's probably just my preference.
asthanius: "If you survive the pattern, you deserved to survive the pattern until the pattern kills you."
electroswagnetism: 'cept that one dude
NomenNeminis: Reduced the universe to a computation engine? ...I'm resisting the urge to make a Douglas Adams reference
Brozard: I feel like it’s both. It’s very interesting the lore says the garden game was “vexing” lrrBEEJ
asthanius: If the universe decides to kill you, who are you to argue?
oddmeg: is the traveler the gardener?
The_Voices: we died, we also got "BETTER"
UnseenAcademical: @Wicker_Knight The pattern we are allowed to choose is given to us by the choice the devs make about our interaction methods.
NomenNeminis: So, we "cheated", but not intentionally, though we are choosing to continue to exist.
37calorieghost: shoot baddies
asthanius: We died, but just like Rule 4 says, community brings us back.
honeyroasted95: pewpew
Dog_of_Myth: Nice warlock threads
electroswagnetism: @oddmeg The traveller is an extension of the gardener I think?
Foxmar320: Candy!
Alahmnat: it's an awkward contradiction of sorts
wickcandle1873: killing things in order to prove that killing things doesn't work!
Wicker_Knight: @UnseenAcademical and if that's all there is, then the Winnower is right and the point of the universe is to forge the Final Shape that shoots all things
Brozard: Unrelated, but I’m expecting next season will be something like Season of the Prince, and will begin with Uldren arriving at the Tower. Rescuing Saint-14 was done to set him up with an ally for him when he arrives, someone who isn’t aware of his history and would also not hold someone’s past life against them as a Guardian.
oddmeg: you are killing things that are also by their nature things for you to kill. Like in this game the sword logic applies, those which die are supposed to die because they are NPCS
L4Y_Duke: So, how do I throw money at these people? I want to see if they'll pronounce my Twitch name correctly or not.
Luminaire_p: I think the two of them have different ideas of the purpose of that honing. I feel like Shaxx has protection in mind more than Saladin's offence.
2Flower: I’ve always liked your explanation for XP in your D&D setting. How murder takes the energy from another and makes you powerful. And the emperor is the worst / best example.
Dog_of_Myth: Saint-14 best Titan or best Titan? LUL
UnseenAcademical: @Wicker_Knight Which is why I'm annoyed at the fact that what could be an interesting question is reduced, via mechanics, to a solved problem solved in the *opposite direction* that the lore writing implies.
oddmeg: players respawn, everything else in the game can die and end, except players, who respawn, are player charecters actually the final pattern hear? as they are the most enduring thing in the game?
ardcollier: Shaxx sort of arrived at his theory of arete by being one of the least unsuccesful warlords of his era. how transitive is it. :D
Wicker_Knight: @UnseenAcademical I think the fact that the Winnower's logic IS the logic of a shooter-rpg is good, and is the main insight that makes their otherwise prosaic arguments at all interesting
Laserbeaks_Fury: If Guardians can't die, how can they not be anything but the final result
TheMoatman: Well, I mean, The Darkness wants to take us, the paragon of the Garnener, for its own ends, so why couldn't we take its sword logic for the light
TheMoatman: *Gardener
Werdnae: He gets real mad that we left a power vacuum
Wicker_Knight: Guardians can die though. If their light is extinguished
electroswagnetism: Guardians definitely can die
Dog_of_Myth: RIP Cayde

ZeniteZero: "You keep what you kill"
oddmeg: do player charecters die like that?
Brozard: Guardians die all the time. We just get revived.
Wicker_Knight: THat's what 'your light fades away' means
TheMoatman: So what's the canonical explanation for us continuing?
Ltntvandal: I think that they use the same rule, but to different ends. The sword logic of the hive is very selfish and self-serving, where as guardians use their might to defend those weaker than them and birth new possibilities and patterns.
oddmeg: but you come back?
Opie74: infinite time lines
RomanianMyEscutcheon: @themoatman Tachyons.
electroswagnetism: Also destiny explains everything that doesn't fit with "Paracausality"
Foxmar320: We come back because its a game. Think of it like Prince of Persia where everytime the Prince died he gets a do over.
Shemerson: Vex simulation
Scrubbodiestobears: the canonical explanation for why we can keep going after darkness zones is reloading a previous save, vs just getting back up
Foxmar320: (talking about death in darkness zones)
Dog_of_Myth: I like to assume we are part of the Future War Cult multiple versions of the same character. lrrAWESOME
NomenNeminis: That is always the question in this sort of examination: How meta is the game intending to be? How much of what we the player do is actually happening?
NomenNeminis: Ok, that was two questions
Brozard: Man, now I want a Destiny roguelite
Luminaire_p: The Ghost Story "No Rez for the Weary" is a real heartbreaker of a Guardian finality
Vyous: The game likes shapes
Wicker_Knight: They've never offered an explicit lore for what is happening when that happens, but I think the strong implication (and I agree with their concern about saying this explicitly, but it's getting hard not to) is that in fact the Young Wolf has some greater power, which is _us_ the player
virre_: And here we have a new year so Happy new year in the middle of this all
Dog_of_Myth: @Brozard insert "take my money" meme
The_Voices: it wants change
oddmeg: it wants novelty
Brozard: @dog_of_myth Right?
JacNol: Happy new year, central Europe time zone friends
RobotInProgress: It wants More
electroswagnetism: pyramid bad, but final pyramid worse
Wicker_Knight: it wants distinction
officedge: it wants to be entertained
NomenNeminis: We have equations for biodiversity and everything!
GhassanPL: Horpy Norp Yorp
The_Voices: when everything is the same, everything dies
letfireraindown: I apologize if i am late to the idea, but my understanding is the traveler and ghosts in the game are spawning something like hollows from Dark Souls. I would think a similar model could be seen for death in this.
GhassanPL: lrrARROW_TK
Gamshyd: if you could consider the heat death of the universe as the final shape, you could consider that it wants perpetual motion/energy
havtorn_: And in this whole analogy I guess the Vex and the Guardians are the Knife and the Spear, not the simplicity/complexity
Wicker_Knight: almost the opposite actually @letfireraindown
TheMoatman: Monte carlo methods are stochastic (i.e. random) optimization methods

oddmeg: an evolutionary algorithm ?
TheMoatman: Oh I'm sorry it's actually more than just optimization
bryGPOtv: monte carlo simulations are used in a lot of fields
lucha_libro: I wish I could make sense of half of this... ^^;;
asymmetrikon: so, the universe finding a false final shape, like a false vacuum
TheMoatman: The genetic algorithm is a very specific thing
Driosenth: the edge of a ripple instead of the center of the wave
Laserbeaks_Fury: More like hitting Random on Dark Souls character creation
Dog_of_Myth: Destiny Lore is a very deep dive
Laserbeaks_Fury: A bunch of times
NomenNeminis: I love these streams-- I always end up researching so many new things! :D
Vyous: Generic algorithms introduce randomness in order to avoid local minima/maxima
TheMoatman: It might be a monte carlo optimization method but I don't remember?
TeiranDragon: which, that kind of local rut is sort of what the gardener was upset about.
ardcollier: it's one of those tools in your statistician/ R nerd/ machine learning toolbox, monte carlo
Brozard: Welp, gotta go. Have a great stream, Cam!

seantheman2: how is everyone's new year's eve, so far?
nerhydas72: well we got to the cosmodrome's edge, that's pretty good
oddmeg: sounds like a pretty good programme tbh, iv been pushing for more practice based learning for our students for ages
Vyous: What's the nature of FTL in Destiny?
Wicker_Knight: @letfireraindown to expand on that: in this game the concept of second and extended life is not necessarily a failure to accept impermanent things, as it is in Dark Souls, though the antagonist does think it is
nerhydas72: @Dog_of_Myth yup, its just called LoadingReadyRun
bryGPOtv: @oddmeg in the states in STEM at least it's pretty common for students to have a capstone project
The_Voices: man, talk about noping the heck out
electroswagnetism: And the Exodus Black is basically just an exploration of "how sad can we make an AI get"?
oddmeg: @bryGPOtv we do that do, undergrad dissertations.
Alahmnat: poor Failsafe
Loonatic93: Question that involves Fermi's Paradox. So much in Sci-Fi assumes that many of the "alien species" we encounter are technologically (or otherwise) superior to us. What is the likelihood that we end up being the advanced society? That we were the first that obtained sentience? That we may end up being "The Old Ones," or "The Unimaginable Horror?"

honeyroasted95: earf
letfireraindown: @Wicker_Knight that makes a lot of sense. i was thinking more on explaining hollows in dark souls as failed players, but that doesn't directly translate for destiny to my limited knowledge
Loonatic93: @Wicker_Knight That's a very fair point.
realhillwolf: much like darksouls then
oddmeg: apparently the moon is haunted? or so the memes tell me

Angnor33: Monorail on the moon!
Alahmnat: the lore book on the last days of the Titan Arcology are so sad
Zath_: Doesn't help that it's haunted
Alahmnat: *is so sad
ArcOfTheConclave: moons haunted
37calorieghost: moon's haunted
TheMoatman: Okay so I'm now more confused about monte carlo and GA
Wicker_Knight: @Duwani1 If failsafe is a Golden Age AI person, then a Warmind is a military strategy council communicating through reports
Alahmnat: that's the one, yeah
Scrubbodiestobears: I think Last Days of Kraken Mare is my favorite lore book and i'm so glad i got it done before last season ended
letfireraindown: @37calorieghost what do you mean, why are you early?
oddmeg: i duno if it me being sensitive to things, but im very sensitive to RPGs now that frame themselves as restoring a lost golden age , given the role of the concept of being wronged by outsiders and restoring an imagined past utopia in modern fashy rhetoric
Furvias subscribed at Tier 1. They've subscribed for 25 months!

LRRbot: lrrSPOT Thanks for subscribing, Furvias! (Today's storm count: 84)
37calorieghost: huh? @letfireraindown
Driosenth: hubris
oddmeg: golden ages have always only ever been golden for spesific sorts of people :D
soft_sunset: corruption, decadence or "outsiders"
hellointernets: concentrated power that denies mortality
Wicker_Knight: @oddmeg like most things fascist, the rhetoric is both older than then and deeper than them, and their appropriating a problematic idea because it's easy
KidAmn: The problem is that Warminds are designed to do what's best for humanity, not necessarily what humanity thinks is best for them. Also they're not quite sure if they're going to count Guardians as "humanity" right now. Like, it's widely speculated that Rasputin literally opened fire or threatened to open fire on the Traveler.
ArcOfTheConclave: golden age is destroyed by it's own flaws
SquareDotCube: Or, you know, jealousy
asthanius: Golden Ages are usually destroyed by themselves. Any outside influence tends to only exacerbate the weaknesses found within, imo.
Loonatic93: Also known as the Lover of the Russian Queen.
NomenNeminis: Sorry, I'm pretty ignorant of this. Who created the warminds?
hellointernets: Alaric wasn't a barbarian. The Gauls sacked Rome because of decades of abuse and unrequited loyalty.
SpectralData: if a golden age stopped, was it really a golden age?
TheMoatman: Okay so my confusion was warranted because "Monte Carlo" seems to be used for pretty much anything with randomness, but sometimes people don't use the term and so aren't monte carlo methods, except when they are
Alahmnat: humans created the warminds
Laserbeaks_Fury: INvested very heavily in the )th law
Laserbeaks_Fury: *0th
Angreed66: Well humans are our own worst enemy
Vyous: They also don't see Guardians as humans, right?
NomenNeminis: Interesting then that we could create something that is "alien" to us.
Dog_of_Myth: That is why I love the Warmind expansion. Going to Mars and learning that history, I loved it
ardcollier: also the final stage of classical Bungie AI Rampancy: grand plans to do it all Right and Save Everything, at the expense of everyone.
BlightningHelix: "Humanity" can be classified as "a sustainable human population." Which, turns out, is not a lot of people.
havtorn_: I always imagined the Warmind to be something akin to Leto II. His entire "Golden Path" was to reshape humanity to become so spread out that it would be essentially immune to destruction of outside influences and inside dominance
letfireraindown: @37calorieghost just trying to follow the joke... "you're here early" "moon's haunted"... what... -cocks pistol- "moon's haunted" boards ship
thundershot879: guardians are zombies with guns
asthanius: Are Guardians even alive?
Furvias: What is the ratio of Human to Guardian in this lore?
thundershot879: the ghost is our soul
Scrubbodiestobears: Guardians are basically Liches with sentient phylacteries
DarkAbyssKeeper: I like the lore where Rasputin debates with himself whether the magic zombie commandos should be allied with to protect humans.
Wicker_Knight: the ghost is an entity to itself, it is not our soul
Angnor33: Guardians or more vampires than zombies. We keep coming back and absorb powers from the deaths of others.
NomenNeminis: I love the part in Roadside Picnic where the physicist and the engineer have a discussion about "what IS Intelligent Life anyways?"
patrick_stonecrusher: featherless bipeds with broad, flat nails lrrBEEJ
RvLeshrac: Cam playing Destiny 2 on Talking Sim and talking about Warminds and GCU hasn't burst through the door
ArcOfTheConclave: what is 'Is'? lol
Angreed66: Guardians are puppets of the traveler and if a guardian sides with the darkness they prove that the logic of the traveler ends with a conclusion opposite to the predisposed idea presented by the traveler.
soft_sunset: btw, I just wanna share - it's been 2020 for 15 min, my partner is in bed, ill, and I am doing weird embroidery and listening to D2 lore hour with Cam
NomenNeminis: They end up with "intelligent life resembles humans" which, they point out, is really not very helpful.
soft_sunset: feels like a pretty good start to the year (with the exception of the whole partner being ill thing, but that will get better fast, I hope)
oddmeg: thats kinda what i love about law, the entire disipline cares so deeply about what spesific words mean that it forces you to think about your understanding f what words mean, other perspectives and what the consequences of that are
oddmeg: like there are multiple different legal defenitions of "person"
BishopSansPants: Hmm, does Rasputin see Exos as Human? Awoken? I'm legit curious since Exos are, IIRC, human minds uploaded to robot bodies and Awoken are humans that went through a black hole and got (space magic?).
letfireraindown: odd question, i've not been following. has anyone done a lore dive into warframe?
NomenNeminis: "Orthogonal" is a great word, btw
Alahmnat: this book is so gooooooood omg

NomenNeminis: ^
Wicker_Knight: Go to ground, everyone left for the shooting will die
letfireraindown: @Alahmnat that is so true!
Alahmnat: it's a very direct way of explaining triage in an extinction-level event
letfireraindown: @RobotInProgress Thank you!
asthanius: The one that explained what Twilight Exigent meant?
BlindProphet32: @Alahmnat Yeah, triage of extinction is a hell of a thing
Alahmnat: "estivate" welp.
flapjacksofwar: Warmind out!
ArcOfTheConclave: "I cannot help"
Wicker_Knight: "I'm ditching all this petty morality and sympathy since y'all are F'd. Peace"
oddmeg: thats interesting, it saved itself for reactivation, so it agknowlages that it cannot save humanity, but at the same time that humans may survive to reactivate it, i wonder how it reconciles those two points
flapjacksofwar: A fancy way to say 'F this shit im out'
BishopSansPants: So pretty much "Y'all prolly gonna die, sorry. I'll pop my head up and look around once the dust settles."
JacNol: "Press F to pay respects, then away"
c360noscope: hey
DarkAbyssKeeper: "You know what? I am designed specifically to figure out how to save you idiots and even i can't even. I'm gonna take a nap and hope you're still here later."
KidAmn: There's a really interesting lorebook from the Forge season that goes through Rasputin's decision process and while it's all cached in terms that don't make sense to anyone else necessarily it's a hell of a read. unsecured/OUTCRY.
NomenNeminis: Or perhaps, he thought someone or something else might reactivate him?
Serpens77: !next
LRRbot: Next scheduled stream: Let's Nope (Ben and Adam sit down and play some spoopy games! Game: Lost in Vivo) at Tue 05:00 PM PST (1:36 from now).
oddmeg: is it like "how many grains of sand make a pile" kinda thing? can humans exist but not enough to be "humanity" ?
NomenNeminis: Not humanity, precisely
Wicker_Knight: Like the Guardians, and the whole point of the Traveler, "there is no hope in this universe, but maybe we are not all that is"
Scrubbodiestobears: interestingly, that future occured, but only due to paracausal intervention by the traveller
ArcOfTheConclave: "I see no win condition that I can achieve so I will remove myself from the equation"
Werdnae: None of Rasputin's actions could save humanity. So there is no point causing his own destruction, so that if something else saves them from this, he may be able to protect them against whatever comes next.
chi7891: Shamrock50 Happy New Year Cam
Angnor33: I love the quest where Rasputin is using music on the vex.
asthanius: @KidAmn iirc, that one is very interesting because the juxtaposition of certain phrases tell you a lot
BlindProphet32: Here's the thought. Rasputin itself can not do anything to save humanity. But that doesn't mean that humanity can't survive. Just that Rasputin can not do anything more, but he can survive.
flapjacksofwar: I need to re-read my lore and Destiny history, but wasnt it the Warmind that caused the Traveler to go dormant instead of running like it did to the Eliksni?
Alahmnat: @Angnor33 yeah, that one's really neat
NomenNeminis: I wonder if Rasputin simply could not chose to NOT allow for the possibility of human survival, in some form. I don't know what his programing is, exactly.
Wicker_Knight: @flapjacksofwar that was one theory for a while, but I believe it's been determined that the traveler did that of its own will now
flapjacksofwar: Ah
asthanius: The Warminds were all trained/taught language from poetry and folklore, weren't they? I seem to recall that coming up in a previous stream.
BlindProphet32: @flapjacksofwar We don't know for sure if Rasputin actually did stop the traveler or not. We know Rasputin prepared to stop the Traveler -if- it decided to try to leave. We don't know if it actually tried to
NomenNeminis: Rasputin's been reading Psalms. :D
KidAmn: @asthanius it's also distinctly different from the similar Ghost Fragment Rasputin 5 in Destiny 1, which raises some fun questions about how honest Rasputin is with us, or what it considers "humanity" or even itself.
Wicker_Knight: it's not clear how much Rasputin is representative of other warminds
flapjacksofwar: I think you can read thos on Mars?
flapjacksofwar: The data banks next to Ana?
oddmeg: wow, so its liturally almost the weponisation of culture?
BlindProphet32: Ana bray's stuff deals with that, and how she taught Rasputin to be a thing
KidAmn: In the Destiny 1 ghost fragments there's a passage that explicitly states: "Coerce pseudoaltruistic [O] defensive action. Defer civilization kill." But we never have found out if that order was enacted.
NomenNeminis: Or, perhaps, an example of the complexity needed to understand human "culture?"
Wicker_Knight: more an attempt to bootstrap an understanding of humanity on a fundamentally inhuman being @oddmeg
BishopSansPants: Does Rasputin preserve humanity or the culture of humanity then?
Wicker_Knight: no and no
asthanius: @BishopSansPants yes
NomenNeminis: BishopSansPants And we're back to the definition of "humanity"

NomenNeminis: realhillwolf Ah, thanks. I only have come across fragments of Norse mythology in collections of folklore and the like.

Alahmnat: Parking Boot the Traveler
Angnor33: I love 'pseudo-altruistic.'
Wicker_Knight: Save all of us or die with us
KidAmn: "Defer civilisation kill" is a hell of a 3 word sentence to end on.
Mr_Bitterness: I quit playing Destiny a while ago, but I still find the lore fascinating.

NomenNeminis: So it was metal as all get-out?
asthanius: Kalki is a hindu
RobotInProgress: y'know, the stuff normal boats are made of
asthanius: wow that message got jumbled
KidAmn: And Kalki is the 10th avatar of Vishnu, who is supposed to kickstart existence again after the universe's most desperate time.
RvLeshrac: Which warmind is VOLUSPA anyway?

oddmeg: cruciforms
Angnor33: Yeah, defining the thing can make it less interesting.
realhillwolf: volluspa is some fortune tellers, also from norse.
AdamYMHMI: The "Spaghetti Incident" style of naming and narrative device.
flapjacksofwar: Wasnt Charlamange another Warmind that was just never really discussed?
KidAmn: "Kalki Golem" is interesting because it could be Guardians, or it could have been SIVA, given how that interacted with Iron Lords and the predecessors of what became Guardians.
flapjacksofwar: I remember that name from somewhere
AdamYMHMI: Whatever you imagine is probably cooler/scarier than what they can show
Alahmnat: Kalki's Sowrd is also the name of two of the lore segments in the Kraken Mare book
Driosenth: he just wanted to write metal music
oddmeg: there are atually books that deal with the time war and they are super interesting
Vyous: C-beams glitter in the darkness
Wicker_Knight: see also, a bunch of weapons systems referenced in a terminal in the Mindlab that also previews the Javelin and Sleeper Stimulant
RvLeshrac: The Voluspa is about a seer, I assumed VOLUSPA was another Mind, but I guess if it was a targeting or warsat system, that would mak esense.
realhillwolf: this is good lore
tenthtechpriest: ah yes, the standard guardian responses of 'that sounds rad' and 'can I have one'
NomenNeminis: Sapphire and Steel decided to NOT show most of the "monsters". Arguably, that was a better choice.
realhillwolf: whats the tänhauser gate?

DarkAbyssKeeper: 48d24
Wicker_Knight: What is a negative sun and why has Zeratul seen the birth of one
havtorn_: It's the one after the B-beam, presumably
asthanius: C-Beams are 4d10 radiant damage + 90 bludgeoning
Gekyouryuu: I'm reminded of the trope on TvTropes called "Nothing is scarier" about how it's impossible to make something that'll have the amount of impact on someone as what they IMAGINE might be
NomenNeminis: Wicker_Knight A negative sun gives you S.A.D. when it IS shining. Kappa

B4rberblacksheep: Huh.. so Ana's Rasputins "Mother"
ardcollier: trolley problem!
Alahmnat: I love that line so much, lol
asthanius: I love how that tell us the pleasure craft gets disabled

RvLeshrac: Failsafe's firm grasp of timing clearly makes her the superior AI.
thundershot879: also the cruise is recreational
asthanius: Rasputin favors someone doing a job over people taking a vacation
Wicker_Knight: also indirect death over direct death
AbsoluteKiwiOfHyperdeath: There is a small, but non zero chance the people on the craft could be saved?
flapjacksofwar: Garunteed death vs possibility of death
BlindProphet32: Rasputin would give people a chance, rather than certainly killing one person
asthanius: Oh, so it prefers a chance for things to go better?
accountmadeforants: RvLeshrac Right, all that's holding Failsafe back is a lack of supreme command over military assets.
I_Am_Clockwork: theres still a slight chanve that the cruise ship might be resqued
I_Am_Clockwork: where the single deth is a known outcome

electroswagnetism: Rasputin prefers hope
RvLeshrac: @accountmadeforants That, and the insanity.
flapjacksofwar: Hes a dreamr!
asthanius: That then makes me wonder what kind of weighting there is in that decision. How many people would it take before the planet-jumper is hit?
NomenNeminis: "A man's opinion on tramcars matters; his opinion on Botticelli matters; his opinion of all things does not matter. [...] Examples are scarcely needed of this total levity on the subject of cosmic philosophy. [...] whatever we think of as affecting practical affairs, we do not think it matters whether a man is a pessimist or an optimist, a Cartesian or a Hegelian, a materialist or a spiritualist."
asthanius: An efficient voice is so...horrifying.
accountmadeforants: RvLeshrac Eh, keep the insanity. If we're doing comedy, the double act is a classic.
RvLeshrac: asthanius: Well, it isn't the number of people, but the certainty of the death.

flapjacksofwar: I also like doing that one misison on Io where you follow the signals from Rasputin and he then takes over your Ghost
thundershot879: we see war and death and the same old pain with new paint
The_Voices: lots of cubes
Alahmnat: your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free?
RvLeshrac: Rasputin would do whatever was necessary to further the long-term goal of "humanity survives"

Wicker_Knight: also to fight each other
BlindProphet32: We defend humanity, but we are not part of humanity
Wicker_Knight: gabyHi Traveler
asthanius: Are there visible roads? Or is it 100% building?
I_Am_Clockwork: Traveler looking a might worse for wear
B4rberblacksheep: The Traveler's been better
flapjacksofwar: Traveler with its own gravitational pull
oddmeg: yeah, we dont get to participate in the everyday life of the city, we are in it, but seperate
Scrubbodiestobears: there's ships flying around too
RvLeshrac: I firmly believe that had the Green or the Black made it out of the system, Rasputin may have chosen to just blow up the sun.
accountmadeforants: The original campaign finale also showed fancy rooftop bars and the like. So there's definitely some stratified society.

tenthtechpriest: saint 14 is the titan dad we never had
electroswagnetism: Gentle kingdom ringed with spears, given various definitions of "gentle", "kingdom", and "spear"
RvLeshrac: To be fair, in-universe, Guardians are also fighting for loot.
wickcandle1873: for the loot
oddmeg: its not clear how the rest of the future is, cause what we see hear is very utilitarian in design, very sturdy and for a military purpose, but we cant know if thats what everyday life is like
Mr_Bitterness: Guardians are an in-universe eclectic bunch
NomenNeminis: We are fighting for diversion and a sense of accomplishment, I guess.
realhillwolf: small glwoing balls, large floating balls. just alot of balls
asthanius: Extrapolating from the Four Rules of the game, we're fighting for community, because that brings the dead back to life.
Angnor33: Also, we are fighting to kill Osiris so we can use the Lighthouse to bring Cayde back.
NomenNeminis: I'm flashing back to your Idle Games stream with Cori.
Angnor33: That might just be my own personal goal, though...
Driosenth: you click on heads
Alahmnat: Penelope is a gem

RobotInProgress: The Light Pits
KidAmn: "Warning: Guardian Impact Zone."
Sharkfists: "we don't go near the tower. it's a silly place"
l0gin4me: beware of falling guardians
flapjacksofwar: So many Thundercrashes gone wrong
soft_sunset: dumb towerthought I just had - "oh it's fine, we're all immortal" but people in the city aren't. Is the tower just a future mt. olympus? with inscrutable headbutting immortal gods "standing guard"?
accountmadeforants: Yup, that's where the feed for the livestock comes from :D
Scrubbodiestobears: there's an NPC near the load-in spot who goes "Control, jumper was a guardian. Already rezzed and on their way"
Wicker_Knight: "Caution: Falling Immortal demigods ahead"
RvLeshrac: But a Titan at a full run with Worldline...
Werdnae: oh, you're in the hangar, how is the accidents sign?
flapjacksofwar: Warning Striker Titan Impact Zone
Laserbeaks_Fury: ANd you know some Strikers are just shoulder charging off the tower

I_Am_Clockwork: prevailing winds probably a factor at this height?

TheMoatman: That sign is a lie
tenthtechpriest: and then you extend that fence after titans start equipping the super jump boots
bakerydragon: ooh yay I'm around in time for a lrr stream despite being in the uk ^.^
DerDrongo: I imagine the guardians look at that fence like a challenge
Dog_of_Myth: Yep
DarkAbyssKeeper: But would that account for the Titans with super running gear and dive bomb powers.
Vyous: How disturbing it must be to motals
Stalevar_: and then they use jetpack and all your calculations go to shit
Vyous: *mortals
I_Am_Clockwork: if ANYONE in the instance jumps off, right?
flapjacksofwar: Ive helped reset that counter many times
realhillwolf: that's the best video game thing i've ever seen
DanielJGrouse: if you put up a fence that's just inviting the guardians to try to land beyond it
Alahmnat: that's incredible XD
tenthtechpriest: actually it probably also got extended after dawnblades got the upgrade this season
realhillwolf: very meta
Friedent: but if it resets do you jump off?
B4rberblacksheep: How did I not know about this, where is it? Hanger?
oddmeg: but when we were thinking about this future and what this imagining of the future looks like, i was wondering if its important to realized that we dont see this future from a neutral viewpoint, we see it as a guardian, who is not an everyday member of scoeity. So everything we see is stuff we need to interact with for our purpose
TheMoatman: No way that *nobody* has fallen off in more than a day
bakerydragon: I hope we see one of the names in the distance plunge down just as the number resets
Laserbeaks_Fury: ANd then y ou have the poor folks who bought their houses here years ago, and then the Tower moved here
NomenNeminis: I want there to be quotation marks around "accident"
oddmeg: some honey and lemon does wonders for me when i am teaching
JacNol: well, then I should go to bed
TheArchitectX: Do tower descending guardians resurrect in place? Or are they reconstructed somewhere else? What happens to the guardians remnants?
Wicker_Knight: they are resurrected by their ghost back at the top of the tower
JacNol: happy new year, now me and the cats will go to sleep
DarkAbyssKeeper: TheArchitectX, How do you think the humans get fed?
Wicker_Knight: it's never made clear in the game what happens to the corpse
Creideiki_SE: Yup, time to go to bed. It's been 2020 for almost an hour here, and not much has changed.
I_Am_Clockwork: its still the same body tho
I_Am_Clockwork: the ghost transmats the revitalized corpse
clockworkinsom: Ive got 9 minute till new year
Wicker_Knight: oh, is that hte canon? That makes sense
realhillwolf: @Creideiki_SE another year, another dissaster
Wicker_Knight: ish. Transmat doesn't really "make sense" but w/e
I_Am_Clockwork: transmat seems similar to star trek's teleportation tech?
flapjacksofwar: Space magic
I_Am_Clockwork: right
BishopSansPants: I mean, this is a universe where engrams exist so?
havtorn_: So, what are the landmark 2020 fictional things that are supposed to happen?

I_Am_Clockwork: for gardians it wouldn't make sense to try because we don't have tech to duplicate the Light
havtorn_: Oooh, 2020 is when Reign of Fire takes place. I'm looking forward to dragons
Wicker_Knight: considering how much time we spend going to places to pick things up, I'd say pretty clearly no
BishopSansPants: Fun fact: Reign of Fire, the dragon movie, is set in 2020.
Wicker_Knight: like, Ghost transmats a shard of the traveler at one point that retains it's light (the lure for Xol)
I_Am_Clockwork: I thought that was because we don't know how to make the things
I_Am_Clockwork: or lack the raw matieriels?
flapjacksofwar: There hasnt been any us being able to dupe things, otherwise we wouldnt spend so much time fetching people stuff so they can build a Plot Device
flapjacksofwar: Im looking at you Ikora!
realhillwolf: @BishopSansPants Maybe that wasnt a fire work going of just outside my window then
I_Am_Clockwork: like you'd need an engram of a thing before you could replicate it
flapjacksofwar: Building a Vex Gate right next to the Rame Stall
oddmeg: i was thinking about how this game pulls from various folklores. they all seem like major national folklores, are there any from localized regions ? for example the region of wales i live in has a unique folklore based on The Mabinogion. I was wondering if, for example, minority languages and cultures like cornish or Breton, exist in this future, or if only the big national concepts of past and of self remain. Did the extinction event that befell humanity "finish" the job of colonialism ...
oddmeg: By erasing these minority cultures.
Wicker_Knight: the engram is just a flash drive, basically. it's a detailed code of the item design and history enough to create the thing out of glimmer

Sharkfists: I guess it's not coincidence that New Monarchy are literally on top of Benedict
TheMoatman: I realized that just saying "faction" without qualifying it as DO/NM/FWC would be confusing without knowing that
Tiber727: This light tells us if war were declared.
Steelwolf171: The FWC sounds dismally 40k-ish
Gekyouryuu: so, Cam, do you think the Future War Cult and the New Monarchy would unite under the God Emperor?
Laserbeaks_Fury: Well, Rome built roads
oddmeg: what about law enforcement and prison policy?
MWGNZ: FWC has great brand colours
BishopSansPants: "Those are for the king to decide"
Wicker_Knight: all to be determined by our friendly neighborhood god emperor
oddmeg: like do we know about law and law enforcement in this future? is there a justice system?
Scrubbodiestobears: well, good news is, our carbon footprint is probably pretty small in the apocalyptic space future
flapjacksofwar: NM had the best armors for my Titan, so Hideo has my vote
Scrubbodiestobears: considering there's just the one city
oddmeg: has this future abolished prisons? do we take community centered restoritive aproaches?
aussie_rob_w: Nice music.
Crad0k: weren't the cabal from d1 basically marines?
NomenNeminis: "whatever our new and rightful monarch wants."
ardcollier: what if Malka Older's Centenal Cycle but zero policies in each centenal
Mr_Bitterness: Also Glimmer is used as a fuel source of some kind
Werdnae: Also, some nice storytelling in vendor locations. Hawthorne was outside the city when the red war started because she had been exiled for punching Hideo in the face.
KevinTheShark: So... uhhh... happy new years from the UK
oddmeg: happy new years rest of the world
Angnor33: They change out the 12 tribes for ship representatives.
RatherWT: Oh wow, it's already midnight in the UK?
RatherWT: Man, I'm old.
oddmeg: its very loud hear, lots of fireworks and unsettling bangs
ieva_art: happy new years from eastern europe :u
Wicker_Knight: @oddmeg not that we see. We know there is/was an Exile system, since Osiris was banished from the Tower. We also know that there are Dredgen-killing guardians out there (i.e. vigilantes who hunt ghost-killers)
clockworkinsom: Happy new year 5 minute ago
flapjacksofwar: Minus 5 here
Alahmnat: I got that one yesterday and immediately equipped it XD
RatherWT: Yep, that math sure checks out.
RobotInProgress: not us
Loonatic93: GMT -6 here!
Alahmnat: the "hold on" one
ieva_art: gmt +2 its been 2020 for a while :u
KevinTheShark: Yeah. One of the few times of year that the British can get away with shooting someone without the bang alerting too much attention
Tiber727: This is a gesture-based economy.
Laserbeaks_Fury: This is Destiny, some guns probably qualify as people
oddmeg: who decided that its for guardians now?
frankscx: gmt +11 eat it past losers
Wicker_Knight: the guardians did. it's hard to argue with them
NomenNeminis: I do like the interpretation of the Tower as military base--so it's restricted access.
oddmeg: did the guardians just... take it?
flapjacksofwar: Isnt this near Hanger Bay 6 while the old Tower was Hanger Bay 12?
Wicker_Knight: The Praxic Order
Werdnae: The Consensus
Scrubbodiestobears: the Consensus
flapjacksofwar: Consesus
oddmeg: oh, so is this a democracy?
Pantsravaganza: Guardians just chose the best base jumping base
Wicker_Knight: we don't know
MWGNZ: frankscx are you trying to step to GMT+13?
Wicker_Knight: what the human government is
oddmeg: do guardians have a governing authority? do they have a chain of command? accountability? or are they like vigilantes?
Wicker_Knight: nominally they all report to the Vanguard
DiscordianTokkan: It's not a Monarchy, which New Monargy is SALTY about
Angnor33: We need fewer Titans handing around giving orders.
flapjacksofwar: Im kinda bummed that all Cayde gets is that tiny plaque behind Zavala
Wicker_Knight: in a pseudo-military structure
Alahmnat: Hawthorne seems to have a relatively dismal view of it
Werdnae: There's implications of some form of politics, but it doesn't seem overly democratic.
MAPBoardgames: I'd assume its some form of a caste system
Wicker_Knight: the Vanguard is also an incredibly weak command system
BishopSansPants: "The Consensus" definitely feels like a shadowy governmental organisation, like the Illuminati or something.
Werdnae: The consensus was the speaker, the three vanguards, and the three factions that have space at the tower.
Jasoman: I wasn't going to watch some destiny 2, but with Cam streaming this will be great.
Laserbeaks_Fury: "Go to Mars and collect 10 Cabal asses
oddmeg: oh, so its more like a professional association than a military?
NonMint: Have you played this on Stadia yet?
NomenNeminis: "You can have the top floor because we KNOW you're just going to throw yourselves off of wherever we put you, so this gives your bodies the most time to disparate..or whatever it is you guys do, before you hit an innocent person. *sigh*"
MAPBoardgames: Go to the place and shoot the mans
Angnor33: You can bake cookies with cabal asses, for a limited time!
Wicker_Knight: TBH it feels most like a gig economy
flapjacksofwar: Dosnt Ikora also have a squad of shadow oporatives that spy and take out people
Wicker_Knight: the Hidden are unlinked Ghosts
BishopSansPants: So I guess that makes The Traveler Arthur then?
Laserbeaks_Fury: It does seem like Guardians are very much under their own authority
Laserbeaks_Fury: Individual agency
ArcOfTheConclave: @Wicker_Knight totally in the gig economy.
Jasoman: an a normal monday
oddmeg: oh i just realized, its not a military organisation, its a gig economy situation. You have jobs, which are are insentivised to do on a one off basis. Its like working for uber only you murder things rather than damaging transport infrastructure
NomenNeminis: Guardians would be really hard to stop or defy.
Mr_Bitterness: Shaxx was a Warlord (and still kinda is...)
Wicker_Knight: yeah, it's Uber for PMCs
Scrubbodiestobears: there's one standing right over by Zavala Kappa
PMAvers: I know the Drifter has some thoughts about those warlords.
asthanius: Guardians have nowhere to go besides the tower, and nothing to do besides Guardian Things (tm). They're dead folks who got resurrected to be Guardians, and not do anything else. You don't live a normal life, because you are alive specifically to do a unique job.
DiscordianTokkan: Does the Hangar "X days without a workplace accident" still reset to 0 after someone dives off the side of the Tower, or was that a thing just for release? It's been a while since I sat and stared at it
Werdnae: Still does it
DiscordianTokkan: Sweeeet
flapjacksofwar: Then there are Guardians like Uldren who are outcasts and have no idea why
Wicker_Knight: I mean, Saladin doesn't particularly seem to regret his past actions as a warlord
havtorn_: Are there non-guardians who get sent on our kinds of quests?
BlindProphet32: 'Within living memory' means something entirely different in regards to guardians
oddmeg: @asthanius yeah i find that interesting, the choices games give us and that they dont are interesting, a game where you get to live a normal life in this setting would be a different game but its interesting that we dont get that choice
Mr_Bitterness: Then there's the Awoken and that's a WHOLE other history
Scrubbodiestobears: Devrim Kay is a mortal, isn't he?
B4rberblacksheep: What about Devrim?
flapjacksofwar: Not to mention we dont have any of our former memroies when before we were chosen as Guardians
Angnor33: Devrim talks about scouts and such.
Agi_Lily: !next
LRRbot: Next scheduled stream: Let's Nope (Ben and Adam sit down and play some spoopy games! Game: Lost in Vivo) at Tue 05:00 PM PST (48m from now).
B4rberblacksheep: Very much exceptions to the rule though
BishopSansPants: Devrim is part of Hawthorne's organization though isn't he?
asthanius: @oddmeg Yeah, and it's not even necessarily that we (the player) are not given a choice, imo, but that we (the character) are not given the choice. Once a guardian, always a guardian.
BlindProphet32: Humans go on missions, and such, but they don't do guardian missions
Werdnae: The city has a militia which is implied to also be non-guardian.
flapjacksofwar: it sounds like Soria and the people of the farm have been out and about for a while without assistance from the Tower
Dog_of_Myth: Lots of Solider Frames too
NomenNeminis: Are there kids who idolize Guardians and kill themselves hoping to be revived? D:
Wicker_Knight: absolutely @NomenNeminis
Scrubbodiestobears: idk the Redjacks seemed pretty effective in the first shadowkeep mission, i think the Drifter might be full of shit
oddmeg: what exactly is being a light bearer? like its a thign the gardener gives you but what is it?
flapjacksofwar: I mean, those Frames at the start of the Moon quests were doing really well
flapjacksofwar: though they all had rocket launchers///
asthanius: Light is Light is Light is Light.
RvLeshrac: Redjacks at the start of SK were definitely more effective than most of the Guardians.
Laserbeaks_Fury: Light is space magic
Werdnae: "Light" is the energy of the traveller.
Alahmnat: Light is a paracausal thing that does whatever Bungie says it does
oddmeg: Control people?!?!?!
asthanius: Midichlorians
Laserbeaks_Fury: Nano-machines suspended in mass effect fields
DrSafeNFriendly: Sounds creepy.
oddmeg: ah i see :D
flapjacksofwar: Light is the plot device that lets us Do the Thing
NomenNeminis: phlebotinum?
Wicker_Knight: Light is the Traveler sharing the ability to manipulate reality with the Guardians
DiscordianTokkan: @Scrubbodiestobears Yeah, I'm 90% sure the Drifter is full of/is shit, and likes smack talking other Tower folk to seem more confident
Alahmnat: Light is one of seventy-eight capitalized words you should probably start keeping track of ;)
tenthtechpriest: grape orange and blue
Simonark: Is Neopolitan an option?
PMAvers: Blueberry, Orange, and Grape
Laserbeaks_Fury: Soda, Purple Stuff, Sunny D
asthanius: Grape, Blue Raspberry, and Orange
NomenNeminis: Blue raspberry and orange?
Dog_of_Myth: LUL
Angnor33: Grape, Blue Raspberry, and Sunkist!
flapjacksofwar: Grape, Rasberry, and Siracha
GoblinRanger: ooh sounds spicy
TemporallyAwry: I really hoped you'd do Blue as well.
Ba_Dum_Tish: Hot fun
soft_sunset: also known as "ball", "sword" and "tingly"
MrPipboy3000: The light is an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us and penetrates us. It binds the galaxy together.
BishopSansPants: Hot, Shocky, and Grape?
oddmeg: i super loved the last jedi, i havnt seen the new starwars yet cause im worried it will walk back the things i liked, i heard it was motivated by backlash and im not sure im super keen to see that
Wicker_Knight: Mudo, Zio and Agi :P
Musicsquid: Grape, blue raspberry and cinnamon
Hunterprime: I mean they still call it voidlight
Wicker_Knight: @oddmeg don't. I saw it yesterday. It is not good
Ashen_Prime: Grape, cinnamon, and numb tounge.
asthanius: It exists without a source
oddmeg: oh, its this settings miricle exception
Wicker_Knight: has an effect with a cause that should not be the cause
Sharkfists: Light is spooky action at a distance?
NomenNeminis: Grape, licking a 9-volt, and ghost pepper
Scrubbodiestobears: interestingly, you can be paracausal without being affiliated with the light or dark (see: Ahamkara)
flapjacksofwar: Grape, Power Outlet, and Blowtorch
MrPipboy3000: Go see CATS instead ... it was amazing ... not good mind you, but amazing.
oddmeg: oh i see, its the ability to defy destiny
Wicker_Knight: supposedly
NomenNeminis: I love how we all agree on "grape" for Void
Wicker_Knight: the Winnower thinks that we are just following a deeper and simpler destiny
Werdnae: Guardians make their own fate
tenthtechpriest: they defy destiny 2 shadowkeep, season of the dawn
DiscordianTokkan: It's the name of the thing! :O
Hunterprime: They can perfectly simulating all other life except guardians
oddmeg: the irony being all our actions are constrained by the game, so we can never truly defy destiny :D
flapjacksofwar: Grape, Shocklate, and Fire
Wicker_Knight: well, the Hive specificalyl do not have access to our flavors of light
DiscordianTokkan: Negation and protection
ArcOfTheConclave: the hunger of the vacuum.
wickcandle1873: or the nightstalker super
Angreed66: However the idea the vex CHOOSE to take a path implies they have paracausaul abilities because in a cause effect scenario choice is an illusion.
BishopSansPants: Big bada boom
bakerydragon: hunter likewise tethers and shuts people down]
Dog_of_Myth: Big Bada Boom
MWGNZ: nig badaboom
tenthtechpriest: it turns out a bubble of 'just say no' can protect people
Werdnae: Void is often as much about the absence of a thing, rather than a thing like fire or electricity.
Asimech: I love it everytime I catch someone bullseye a Nova Bomb.
Crad0k: "Nova bombs? *40* Nova bombs?"
oddmeg: why do you wana shut down light powers? i thought guardians had light powers but the forces you oppose dont?
Wicker_Knight: Tyra Karn
Werdnae: Tyra
Scrubbodiestobears: Tyra
NomenNeminis: "undoing" or "keeping from ever being done?"
flapjacksofwar: Solar seems to be Healing and Incineration
Wicker_Knight: @oddmeg guardians also fight each other
asthanius: Is Void just King Crimson? Yes/No
tenthtechpriest: no*
RobotInProgress: @asthanius nope
bakerydragon: Does anyone know how the buffing aspects of void titan (commander and bubble) are justified , or if they're explained at all?
Asimech: @Wicker_Knight @oddmeg Exactly: For PvP. Also in-universe it might be a side-effect and not necessarily purposefully added behaviour.
asthanius: Diagetic
NomenNeminis: diagetic
thundershot879: titan was terrible in pve @bakerydragon
TheArchitectX: So Void is a heat sink for Light?
bakerydragon: blinding and blocking projectiles I get, but the weapons of light, shields of light, and shooting through the one way titan wall in commander I don't really understand
Asimech: WP likes the word as "diegesis" apparently.
Scrubbodiestobears: the only cryptarch void quote i can think of is "When you whisper to the void, does it whisper back? no? for me neither."
Wicker_Knight: the taste of metal is a common description for tasting blood
flapjacksofwar: Healing and Improvment
tenthtechpriest: solar likes manifesting things
Mr_Bitterness: And fire hammers!
shurtal: Cant' discount fireswords
Wicker_Knight: YEAH FIRE SWORDS gabySlay gabyB
thundershot879: fire swords and fire hammers and fire guns
Angnor33: Plus you can get a lightsaber with arc.
MrPipboy3000: Arc has the Spark of life you might say ...
flapjacksofwar: I forget the loretab for the Arc classes
asthanius: If Void is negation, and Solar is rebuilding, what's Arc?
Asimech: @Wicker_Knight Which got funny to me once rye and especiall oats started leaving me with a metallic aftertaste.
Blightfight: So, would arc maybe also be like, intelligence and all that jazz?
thundershot879: arc is the catalyst
Blightfight: Blinking is how you fall into pits.
Foxmar320: Blinking is that thing you do during long platforming sections
asthanius: Blinking is how you get headaches in VR games
bakerydragon: I'm stuck on being a floaty warlock. Never got used to blink and still need to practice XD
Asimech: Blinking is the thing doctors are against.
Wicker_Knight: Arc is motion and change. Solar is creation and remediation, void is negation and avoidance
thundershot879: blinking is how you lose your sense of direction quickly
oddmeg: was the term blink to mean a sort range teleport coined by blizard ? cause that the first time i encountered it, in warcraft 3
PMAvers: It's like playing a dragoon in Final Fantasy 14.
flapjacksofwar: Basically
Vyous: Blinking his how you go adjacent to but definately not at the point you wanted to go.
Blightfight: Also, hello, happy New Year's to the people in the future, Happy New Year's Eve to those who aren't.
Hunterprime: No, I I knew D&D had blinkdogs a long time ago
Officinalis: Blinking is the trick ghosts created in order to give themselves something to do.
AbsoluteKiwiOfHyperdeath: No one who has ever cast blink has ever gotten where they wanted to be.
oddmeg: the infinite forest? but... how is it infinite? this game is such a weird bundle of technical language and poetic metaphor
BishopSansPants: D&D Blinking is more like you blink in and out at random or set intervals, not something you control aside from casting the spell in the first place.
RobotInProgress: Blink is a brief moment of death followed by a more substantial death
DrSafeNFriendly: Blink is, it was there and is now suddenly not.
NomenNeminis: Oh, right...this is a shooting game. Kappa
Foxmar320: Nice knife throw
Asimech: So, quick search reveals a Marvel character called Blink with teleportation powers (first appearance 1994) so I would say the association with teleporting and the word "blink" existed before Warcraft.
Alahmnat: man, I got a headshot with a linear fusion rifle in Crucible a couple days ago and felt like a god in the .5 seconds between that and getting absolutely ass-blasted by another player.
flapjacksofwar: Cam became part of a Montage video
Blightfight: Is that the Balignant?
Foxmar320: oh we slide shotgunning? Oh so its like that now :P
Werdnae: Oddmeg: The infinite forest is a simulation engine. There's no end to it because it can just generate more.
bakerydragon: I love hawthorne's shotgun and her quote for it =)
Wicker_Knight: @oddmeg in this case, it's a planet-sized reality engine (maintained by the previously-mentioned robots) that we've established a beachhead in and are using to create spaces for us to fight in
ZeniteZero: Handheld Supernova is hillarious LUL
Ukon_Cairns: tis the season to have a lightsaber after all
Foxmar320: That person is now uninstalling the game
Asimech: And I think "blink" as a type of teleport is specifically a _quick_ teleport, hence the word. Short distance is just how you limit it and make it function in a video game.
jrhwhite: Truly the GOAT
Mr_Bitterness: I love you Handheld Supernova
iggySPLOSION: its less of an infinite forest and more of an algorithmically generated matrix treadmill
Simonark: It comes with moral superiority?
Asimech: Well, I say "function"...
Scrubbodiestobears: Handheld Supernova? i thought you were allergic to cheese Kappa (full disclosure i'm totally HHSN for pvp)
Wicker_Knight: still unanswered is how things can _leave_ the Infinite Forest, but paracausality and all that
NomenNeminis: your revolver covered in MOSS?!
kcazduke19: Cam exploded
DrSafeNFriendly: Neat hat.
Wicker_Knight: @NomenNeminis yes
RobotInProgress: shouldn't have said that thing you said
Angnor33: @NomenNeminis Yes, it's a Vex revolver
Wicker_Knight: it's a supertech revolver from the distant future-past
Foxmar320: wat
Blightfight: @NomenNeminis Yep. It's from a future that will not come to pass.
NomenNeminis: Wicker_Knight ...'k
ZeniteZero: I miss Equinox. That map was BEAUTIFUL (and one of the few with actual long range engagements)
NomenNeminis: Blightfight And that's good, I assume.
bakerydragon: revolver is from previous season with vex invasion stuff
Foxmar320: That person is now putting their PC in the sea
tenthtechpriest: blink shotgun, a tradition as old as vanilla d1
oddmeg: i wonder how this setting impacts the psyche of non light users? like they know other people have the ability to defy predetermined negative outcomes, but that you, personally do not. That must do a number on your self image and psyche
Scrubbodiestobears: at least you're not using contraverse like I do
flapjacksofwar: Its a hard job being a Destiny Streamer
Wicker_Knight: the humans we speak to generally regard guardians with a mix of resentment, fear and respect
Sharkfists: bad noise bad noise whatcha gonna do
flapjacksofwar: Cam make sit look easy
Blightfight: @NomenNeminis Well, yes. That future is the one where everything is nanite robots and their shells.
NomenNeminis: Is there a reason to keep the moss on the revolver? I admit is looks really interesting and cool, but is there an in-universe reason?
kcazduke19: Hmm. <.< Surprisingly little talking for Talking Sim
NomenNeminis: Blightfight Thanks!
Foxmar320: Now its your turn
RobotInProgress: I guess now I start this new year by playing DOOM
Foxmar320: welp
BishopSansPants: rip
NomenNeminis: kcazduke19 You missed the large quantity of reading earlier.
bakerydragon: yay it's not just me that does that XD
Zath_: Ah, lag and crucible, name a more iconic duo
oddmeg: thats allowed :) we spent a long time chatting about weird stuff
Mr_Bitterness: Yeaaah, middle tree voidlock has a fantastic neutral game and a terrible super
Foxmar320: If a Warlock hands you a grenade you legally have to take it.
flapjacksofwar: They nerfed it a bunch
Mr_Bitterness: It got nerfed so hard
flapjacksofwar: Novawarp used to hit from further away
tenthtechpriest: middle tree voidlock had a super once. it's gone now. we can't find it again.
Jay_Blanc: Look, you know the rules, if you want to distract Teacher you have to bring up a subject he likes to talk about.
Foxmar320: Nice flip!
kcazduke19: Ah, fair. o.o Last TS got me into Slay the Spire. Just managed to beat Act 4 for the first time.
bakerydragon: i both love and hate the lack of recoil on that gun
flapjacksofwar: I should work on my LFR kills...
bakerydragon: it makes it so good to use but also just doesn't feel super impactuful
Mr_Bitterness: Look, if you want to Crucible correctly, just play Hunter like bungie intended
Blightfight: @kcazduke19 Nice!
Jay_Blanc: Also, is Cameron our English Lit teacher or our Chemistry teacher?
bakerydragon: super close game
tenthtechpriest: now now, some people have dodges that poop grenades instead of healing them
Sogheim: lrrHEART lrrCAMERON shotgun! lrrHEART lrrCAMERON
NomenNeminis: Jay_Blanc Yes?
Vyous: I thought bungie wanted everyone to play titan in crucible. *shakes fist at titan charge*
Vyous: And at the eye patch
Blightfight: Wait, there's a grenade dodge now?
ZeniteZero: Either have a dodge that heals you, or a shoulder charge that OHKOs other players. Only ways to play Crucible LUL
Wicker_Knight: the only thing everyone can agree on is that bungie did not want THEM to play crucible
kcazduke19: Silent + Unceasing Top = nigh infinite draws
Asimech: @Jay_Blanc Yes.
Foxmar320: wow robbed
tenthtechpriest: @Blightfight yes, new exotic
flapjacksofwar: From the Jaws of Victory, you grasped Defeat
oddmeg: its very nakedly about empowerment isnt it? like player charecters are special, they have awsome power and can defy fate. Its very empowering sounding, that you are in the cannon of the seting, very special. But it must suck for like accountants, who know they cant defy fate
DiscordianTokkan: 2.0 kda though? Nice
Sogheim: Cam's always so dapper, with hair coiffed just so
Wicker_Knight: @oddmeg yes
RomanianMyEscutcheon: Handheld is just as tilt-inducing as Shoulder Charge, don't @ me. lrrBEEJ benginRage
Alahmnat: it's the whole shirt, really
Foxmar320: Holiday
Mr_Bitterness: Ada has a lot of THOUGHTS about lightbearers too
Blightfight: Eva?
lostluck42: devrim
Foxmar320: Eva can wield a nice shotgun tho
Werdnae: Rahool is not, but Tyra is/was
Wicker_Knight: Rahool is a lightbearer I believe
oddmeg: you are not only not special, but not special in a soul crushing way, you know there is nothing you can do to defy the bad future. , you have to trust in the chosen ones to save you, but you are locked on railes doing whereever they steer you
Scrubbodiestobears: i love the juxtaposition of the first shadowkeep trailer, where Eris is all "something wicked this way comes", and the launch trailer which is all "lol moon's haunted come play"
Blightfight: The Eververse chick? She's clearly the most important character in the game.
Wicker_Knight: he has liines that reference being a Void Warlock
Laserbeaks_Fury: I don't think Tess is a lightbearer
lostluck42: who knows about Eris anymore
ZeniteZero: Ada lived through the Dark Age AND managed not to die (as per the number 1 in her name). That in itself is pretty amazing.
dee_dubs subscribed at Tier 1. They've subscribed for 39 months!
dee_dubs: Happy new year from the UK
LRRbot: lrrSPOT Thanks for subscribing, dee_dubs! (Today's storm count: 93)
Wicker_Knight: Tess is not, although Fenchurch, her adopted uncle, is
Foxmar320: Devrim is not a lightbearer but somehow he can use No Land Beyond way better than I can
oddmeg: i mean there are games where that is not the case, sometimes fations take actions without you etc,
Simonark: All NPCs are basically Claptrap.
Werdnae: He doesn't have a ghost, even in Destiny 1 where all the guardian NPCs in the tower have their ghosts next to them (except Eris, for plot reasons)
Werdnae: Banshee also doesn't have a ghost.
oddmeg: like some fame worlds are fully simulationist and tick over without realy careing about the player. Its not an inevitability of game design, its a choice. not a bad choice mind you, but like a spesific chocie
delta__vee: are any light bearers not guardians? does that question even make any sense?
Alahmnat: ah, the lore mission you can accept without owning Forsaken but not complete because you don't own Forsaken
Foxmar320: Dreaming City is still so rad.
Foxmar320: LOL
djentlemike: F
oddmeg: ouch
kerbalized_: f
bakerydragon: F
Foxmar320: foxmarRIP foxmarRIP foxmarRIP
Scrubbodiestobears: Man, Calus would be so proud of our opulent glimmer-basket sparrow
TheAinMAP: Whoops.
Wicker_Knight: instead of Awoken magic?
Mr_Bitterness: Yeah, I've done that exact thing a lot
Laserbeaks_Fury: That was quite the SLay-ride
Jay_Blanc: Don't drive distracted.
Foxmar320: Clip it :P
oddmeg: are sparrows the good speeder pikes?
oddmeg: the little bikes
bakerydragon: Yeah Suraya talking about sparrow is great
Foxmar320: I think Holiday drives one
oddmeg: ah cool
RomanianMyEscutcheon: @delta__vee Not all Lightbearers are Guardians; Guardians are the dominant favtion of Lightbearers, though.
bakerydragon: and Cayde trying to get her to ride one
Scrubbodiestobears: what shotgun is this? it's rad
Simonark: They aren't, just, obsessed with songbirds?
BlindProphet32: The thing is, we actually aren't important. While we protect humanity and do shit for humanity and they don't exist without us...we have no real purpose if mortals did not exist
Foxmar320: She builds them at least
RomanianMyEscutcheon: *faction
iggySPLOSION: sparrows are fine, theres no space OSHA
TemporallyAwry: And a saddle, it has SOME ergonomics :D
oddmeg: to be fair most of what you are doing would be absolutly mind numbigly terrifying to a baseline person
Wicker_Knight: "warning: optimized for performance above all else, including safety. Non-guardian use is strongly discouraged"
Ukon_Cairns: so immortality comes in handy when you are expected to ride a sparrow
Blightfight: What exotic do you have on?
Sogheim: I've seen so many rockets with handlebars in comics that I still think it's neat but also a real nice way to lose your feet
oddmeg: and possibly terrifying even to a guardian, if they wernt played at the distance the player has from their avatar. Like some of these antagonists look terrifying, even if i was employwered i would probably still be scared of all this
Werdnae: I like the "Burnout". the lore tab is like 'I asked Ana Bray to tune the engine a bit, and now it's on fire'. 'Is that a problem?' 'Not so far'
Noodles_15: Looks like verse
Blightfight: Ah, yep, it's Verse.
Wicker_Knight: and also train ghosts that they need to be ready to BOOK IT out of danger before reviving their guardian
RvLeshrac: I thought it was because Guardians won't patrol an area unless you give them loot?
Dog_of_Myth: Give me lore...
RvLeshrac: I mean, it could be all of these things.
Laserbeaks_Fury: How long will you be on Mars? TWO...RINGS....
RvLeshrac: There should be a permadeath PvP mode where getting shot with Thorn just deletes your char.
Simonark: Are there many games that make a meta-awareness of the fact that it's a video game whose structures decide what you do in it, but take it as a serious part of the lore and not a joke?
Mr_Bitterness: Shaxx also likes sticking it to our foes by making their strongholds into Crucible maps
NomenNeminis: "You must earn shooting things a lot."
bakerydragon: ooh hadn't thought of crucible locations in that way before
Dog_of_Myth: Bold strategy
Laserbeaks_Fury: No Man's Sky
Wicker_Knight: @Simonark I feel like I see it a lot more lately than I used to
I_Am_Clockwork: it's not a garison, its a training camp
I_Am_Clockwork: Kappa
Werdnae: Ghost Fragment: Pantheon
Dog_of_Myth: Sees Thorn, pulls out Last Word
Jay_Blanc: The Crucible is how you teach Guardian's how to count.
Laserbeaks_Fury: The NPCs in No Man's Sky are vaguely aware their reality is virtual
Werdnae: "We’re the backup plan if the Vex decide to start growing more trouble in the Garden"

NomenNeminis: Thanks for the HahaCat @reallegitstreamer
Scrubbodiestobears: the knife thing!
tenthtechpriest: space magic but not literal actual space magic
Dog_of_Myth: Petra is awesome
Wicker_Knight: which apparently Cayde finds interesting, yeah
TheMoatman: Isn't she a former techeun or something?
Wicker_Knight: Mara Sov is also not a lightbearer, but has similar abilities
NeonDisko: now i need to know if theres is a loading ready run d2 clan
Wicker_Knight: there are several @NeonDisko
Dog_of_Myth: Awokened have long lifespans too
ZeniteZero: "She shows Cayde her Awoken knife trick"... phrasing...?
TheMoatman: NeonDisko there is not a LRR d2 clan
TheMoatman: There are sixd
lostluck42: yes that
NeonDisko: oh damn
Laserbeaks_Fury: Is the Dreaming City still looping?
Wicker_Knight: yup
ZeniteZero: Yup
bakerydragon: i like that the dialogue changes a little each time you do the dreaming city weekly story mission
Noodles_15: Will the dreaming city ever stop looping?
oddmeg: what is the dreaming city?
TheMoatman: Oh yeah we'll have to handle that at some point
tenthtechpriest: the dreaming city is a cursed time loop
bakerydragon: and you are addressed differently depending on whether you're awoken or anything else (awoken get called "Cousin")
Blightfight: Not gonna explain the MMurder Battery?
oddmeg: awoken? what are they awoken from?
oddmeg: like are they litterally out of cryosleep?
Pantsravaganza: "coordinating the military" = hey guardians, that enemy has a shiny thing.
ZeniteZero: The Dreaming City is amazing. That being said, the whole thing with the Queen's Court and how those interactions with the Queen are now inaccessible still bother me.
NeonDisko: its becuase crucible is super sweaty and anyone who plays it seriously are insane lol

realhillwolf: why are some blue?
Wicker_Knight: @oddmeg the full answer to that is actually the hidden information for the Forsaken expansion. Short, non-spoilery version is that it's an Avalon-like place created using obscure magic and is now trapped in a time loop of endless war
oddmeg: they are ... less long than i imagined people who got sucked into a black hole would be
TheMoatman: There were only three hundred, give or take several million
bakerydragon: I think "The Nine" are related to the awoken?
bakerydragon: but I am hazy on the law
Mr_Bitterness: They basically woke up as slightly different people
Sharkfists: something something wake me up inside
bakerydragon: lore*
BishopSansPants: The Queen was the first one to wake up IIRC as well.
tenthtechpriest: interdimensional planetary
Alahmnat: they're blue because they lived inside of the black hole dimension for billions of years and evolution basically went "eh, sure"
TheMoatman: Might've been D1 lore
Jay_Blanc: Being sucked into a black hole results in spaghetification, dimensional travel and a sudden urge to write a lot of emo poetry.
Mr_Bitterness: Yeah, it's all in the Marasenna
ZeniteZero: Isn't the lore that the Exodus Green was in the middle of the clash between the Traveller's Light and the incoming Darkness, and that sent them to something like a pocket dimension?
countz3r0: !next
LRRbot: Next scheduled stream: Let's Nope (Ben and Adam sit down and play some spoopy games! Game: Lost in Vivo) at Tue 05:00 PM PST (16m from now).
Mr_Bitterness: Mara was specifically outside the ship when it went into the anomaly.
TheMoatman: Have they done anything with guardian Uldren yet?
Wicker_Knight: just some loretabs
Simonark: The word Transuranic always makes me think of the Sapphire and Steel opening
Sly_chocobo: Im sure someone has already said this, but hey, Happy new year Chat, and happy new year cam! :)
NomenNeminis: Simonark Same
Mr_Bitterness: @TheMoatman He got an implied lore tab for this Dawning
ZeniteZero: @TheMoatman only indirect mentions in item lore, but nothing expressive
NomenNeminis: Thank you, Sly_chocobo ! Same to you!
oddmeg: so they got... re encarnated into a differet universe?
Mr_Bitterness: A pocket dimension
ZeniteZero: Space Elves PogChamp
Simonark: "I Can't Believe It's Not Eldar"
Asimech: "Favoured of the writers"?
ZeniteZero: @Simonark LUL
Jasoman: @LoadingReadyRun ancient ones? From Babylon 5?
virre_: I was not super paying attention, did you say Iluvatar, and in that case did you mean Maiar
RealGamerCow: This is a pretty good Halo game
tenthtechpriest: a few years have passed but it turns out just as much shit happened on that side, just all compressed into a smaller timeframe
Wicker_Knight: @virre_ no, elves. The First Children.
Wicker_Knight: Mara Sov is a very explicit Galadriel reference
virre_: Ah, thats me not paying attention
Biomonkey01: I hope we get Uldren back again
ZeniteZero: This lore bit made me sad :(
Wicker_Knight: I feel this concept of rebirth far more than, say, Ana Bray's
bakerydragon: oh dang, is this the uldren sov guardian?
Foxmar320: This lore is so sad :(
TrueThorn: It's not Uldren, Uldren died. This guardian is a new person.
NomenNeminis: "Unpredictable source of pain and confusion, and the see him the same way." Unfortunately, that is very close to how I used to view other humans.
Mr_Bitterness: @bakerydragon that's what's implied, with the sheet, the ring and the shell color
ZeniteZero: @bakerydragon it is implied that it is the Risen Uldren
tipulsar85: How are you Cam?
Wicker_Knight: the Risen that was Uldren
bakerydragon: oof
bakerydragon: thanks @Mr_Bitterness and @ZeniteZero
MaceLight: and yet he can't as he was too knowen
ZeniteZero: I feel real bad for Uldren, tbh
Biomonkey01: ENding on a happy note

oddmeg: huh, there is a line of philosophical thought that says that the self is memories, and that if you loose all your memories you are, in all meaningfull ways a new person. But what that story points out is that part of our identity is our relationships with other people. Part of our identity is outside ourselfs. Which is a super interesting thought

Sniknob: Fun fact: the etymology for amnestia(the name of the ship for that lore entry) is amnesia, meaning to forget. But also, the word amnestia especifically means to "forget" and forgive someone's misdeed
NomenNeminis: I apologise for my username
TrueThorn: Amnestic, to be made to forget

Lord_ZYRK: CastleOtranto I wholly approve
Juliamon: Can I have your neighbors? That sounds much nicer.
NomenNeminis: CastleOtranto Are you sure those aren't just their everyday decorations? Kappa
ehsteveG: Yeah those neighbors sound like they rule
silverfur64: My neighbor set off firework most the summer. And they might set a few off at midnight.
CastleOtranto: @Juliamon I mean, they are pretty quiet.
BlightningHelix: I've got neighbors who decorate with skeletons for every holiday.
CastleOtranto: @NomenNeminis They are NOW.

Lord_ZYRK: Every holiday deserves some good boning lrrBEEJ_SG
BlightningHelix: Don't get me wrong, by the way, it's a highlight of each holiday
AranMathai: No Cori for Lost in Vivo?
BlightningHelix: "What are they doing with the skeletons this holiday."
Juliamon: Cori's sick
AranMathai: T_T
BlightningHelix: Or sometimes I'll drive by at a time I'm not expecting and bam, skeleton diorama
NomenNeminis: I've missed a bunch of streams; is this Let's Nope a continuation of a previous stream or a new game?
Lord_ZYRK: The sickness claims another of the crew NotLikeThis
ritchards: Cori got down with the sickness
estyl10: lost in vivo
Juliamon: Continuation.
ritchards: Adam also got down with the sickness
Jasoman: Oof
ritchards: Dunno what Ben is gonna do.
ritchards: Does Ben know?
Jasoman: I thought he already played Magic?
NomenNeminis: Thanks, Juliamon
Schokobeau: Yeah, Adam sounded rough earlier. I hope he recovers soon!
AranMathai: Speaking of odd holiday decorations - I had an idea this year? My roommate and I put up a Christmas tree that just didn't want to keep living, and it subsequently started to wilt. It never went full orange, but it hit me that that would actually be a pretty wicked set up for either Christmas or Halloween. Orange tree, purple/black tinsel, red-or-green lights, and some appropriate ornaments?
Juliamon: The title switched to Lost In Vivo... but then it switched back to Talking Sim, so IDK?
