soupgiraffe: turkeys are very dumb

asthanius: Chickens are not street smart. They're also not book smart.
chaostreader: Welp. I meant to ^ at corvids are smart.
DeM0nFiRe: turkeys are weird to me because I feel like they should only be in like wooded areas, but also I sometimes see them in downtown of a major city and idk how they even get there
PharaohBender27: @asthanius But are they coop smart? Kappa

Juliamon: Yes, please!
ogier300: I like magpies
asthanius: @PharaohBender27 They don't even know what a co-op game is lrrBEEJ
Loonatic93: @DeM0nFiRe Because of the Park Biome. Much like with Goose and Deer.
iiieye: I'm hungry for fried chicken now
RaklarLS: you just click on them and they float a bit more
gnome_friend: Birds are excellent creatures
sasschad: We have no issues using it mouse only
PharaohBender27: @DeM0nFiRe I remember being in grad school in Boston and seeing turkeys even along rather heavy-traffic streets
Alex_Frostfire: Cowbird sus.
DeM0nFiRe: PharaohBender27 Yeah Boston is what I was talking about haha. I occasionally see them at like South Station
Haroldholmes25: Is it not highlighting?
DeM0nFiRe: Which is like about a mile or so from a park but it doesn't seem like a particularly turkey friendly park
RaklarLS: maybe accidentally picked the 5 resources?
Seagulyus: "From the 5 bird cards that you were dealt at the beginning of your turn, keep as many as you want, discarding at least one food token for each bird you decide to keep. Then look at your two objective cards, keeping one and discarding the others
emonotony: korvys I nowadays live in a region with very few birds, just the occasional magpie and sparrow. And turns out I miss jackdaws the most, by a lot.
Radyin: Thank you @Seagulyus I thought I was the only one who didn't know how to play. The players seem to be assuming that everyone is already an expert at it.
Seagulyus: each bird has a habitat and food icon on them, a points type, nest type, and egg limit
PharaohBender27: @DeM0nFiRe My grad school was in the Backbay Fens area. I remember going on walks into Brookline and seeing like a family of turkeys in a little park
emonotony: korvys Now that I think about it I think the jackdaws liked me because I always fed the cats, and the cats were pretty poor about finishing the meal.
Ignatiuspants: all I know about this game is that they're choosing birds now

Ritaspirithntr: Are penguins in here?
RaklarLS: not yet
RaklarLS: there's american and european birds so far
PharaohBender27: @DeM0nFiRe If you keep waling southwest past Fenway Park, you get to the area I was at, and Brookline is north of that across the T tracks
gnome_friend: @Ritaspirithntr these are just North American birds I think
Loonatic93: @DeM0nFiRe Something to keep in mind. Wild Turkeys can semi-fly. They have an above average intelligence (for birds). And there aren't any predators to worry about. Dogs and cats are just too small to take on a turkey, and anything bigger are driven off. Well, except for the coyote-wolf hybrids.
Ritaspirithntr: surely this game would be better with penguins!!
eatkins95: This feels like crossing the chillpoint.
Ignatiuspants: are there penguins in the game?
gnome_friend: @Ignatiuspants once they add southern hemisphere, hopefully
Ignatiuspants: ooh...!

gnome_friend: @ContingentCat oh, and plus the bushtit
PharaohBender27 sees what @ContingentCat did there
DeM0nFiRe: Loonatic93 Ah interesting. I've never seen turkeys fly, just seen them usually as a family walking around slowly

MennoKnight42: i was wondering about that
MennoKnight42: you could have done both!
lirazel64: I can only draw m-birds.
Dog_of_Myth: Storm Crow is too strong for this meta

RaklarLS: also don't forget two any resource count as one of another, if you need
DeM0nFiRe: That makes me curious what the highest altitude birds normally fly at is
emonotony: A place to eat freeze-dried mice does sound like a vomit comet.
gnome_friend: @DeM0nFiRe Some crane and goose species migrate over the Himalayas
Twilight_Spark: 2020, "Surely they've put birds in a vomit comet", what a concept.
Armyguy0: You just need to go slower
Dog_of_Myth: @gnome_friend Beat me to it
Dr_fragenstien: I'm an intense G
ContingentCat: Franklin's Gull was bothering me wondering which Franklin they were named after and it was the one I was thinking of, the explorer John Franklin who kept trying to find the Northwest Passage, apparently they found the first specimen of the bird on one of his expeditions
LordZarano: The video of birds in 0g is pretty interesting
DeM0nFiRe: Google says teh highest altitude bird is Ruppell's Vulture at 11,300 meters
DeM0nFiRe: Which is super far below space, interesting

Izandai: Oh I would love a mythological expansion to this game so much.
thrythlind: there's an LG variant of yuan-ti in Eberron that are feathered snake people
gnome_friend: Quetzalcoatl/Kukulcan
Dog_of_Myth: Serpent bird gods sure.
TehAmelie: so what fresh madness is this game? God plays dice with birbs?
Lightningbro: Well, tips of your tongue, Quetzalcoatl have forked tongues.
Izandai: Quetzalcoatl, the sphinx, the griffon, the gryphon... Quite a few options.
TehAmelie: and possibly badgers?
Izandai: Although I guess it's questionable that all those lay eggs.
e_bloc: all I want out of life is for Quetzalcoatl to be an onomonpedic bird
thrythlind: Kukulcan is Maya, I think (maybe Olmec)...and isn't actually connected to Quetzalcoatl
gnome_friend: ^
gnome_friend: @thrythlind well, they're based on the same feathered serpent god idea
ContingentCat: huh
Earthenone: full nest with egg sounds delicious
LariatWest: Birds that have a bowl nest with an egg on it
thrythlind: not really, they have similar iconography....but apparently they developed from different roots
RaklarLS: birds with bowl nests, with egg in it
until_may: nom
Izandai: Fun fact: Quetzalcoatl falls into that frustrating space of being so incredibly popular and well-known in his time that we know almost nothing about him now.
ContingentCat: what other kinds of nests are there, aren't they all bowls
Izandai: Because people rarely wrote anything down about him because anything they would write is something that everyone would just know anyway.
gnome_friend: I thought they both came from a previous Toltec god
RaklarLS: bowl nests, with an egg bedding, rice, and mushrooms.
asthanius: Do not father the cherry
JoelJohnsonCranidos: wifiS wifiS wifiS wifiS

Earthenone: its the birds wheat now
LariatWest: You don't. It's just points
azureHaights: Nu-thatch? I'm more of a plan of industrial thatch myself
Izandai: That's the bird's wheat.
thrythlind: not sure, I'm aware that there's a couple of cultures that were already lost when the Aztecs were in early development...not sure whether that's Toltecs or Olmecs
Seagulyus: the problem is "do we show the specifics" or "make it so you can see everything at once on scree"
Haroldholmes25: He can switch to other players boards, which can be confusing if you don't catch the switch

azureHaights: *fan
Seagulyus: Haroldholmes25 wait each player DOES have their own board?
Armyguy0: That owl looks done
gnome_friend: @Seagulyus in the board game there are separate boards for each player
Seagulyus: thats confusing then
LariatWest: Unfortunately no. The type of food cached is for theme/flavor. Mechanically it's just a point per thing on the bird
TehAmelie: i'm sure i'm the last one to notice but i do love the art style of the game
Seagulyus: gnome_friend yeah sorry that is confusing sorry
Clypheous: Wingspan is a computer game too?

ContingentCat: no, it sounds gross
Izandai: I've only been able to play one game but it's so good.
chaostreader: You can tell which board Ian is viewing at the top. There is an eye symbol that appears below the board he is viewing.
gnome_friend: @asthanius I think the Olmec were slightly older and farther north than most Maya groups, and the Toltec were contemporaneous with a lot of Maya groups and earlier in the same area as the Mexica/Aztec Triple allianceAlliance in aro

TehAmelie: mmm Sandman. the "hope" line gets so delicious after Overture
gnome_friend: @PharaohBender27 Not that I'm aware, it just seems like a fun format of joke question
Izandai: @PharaohBender27 I wouldn't be so sure. I think some people just committed to the joke way harder than you were expecting.
