TXC2: Hello RandomTrivia

DefEdge: You got a good grip, so that's better than me really.

SnowBuddy18: r00d
JadedCynic: good recovery from being rammed ian!
DefEdge: AI generally doesn't care...
JadedCynic: seems like AI will aim for that line and disregard the presence of the player
DefEdge: Right, railway track syndrome
JadedCynic: there ya go!
double_stuffed_orio: railway track syndrome?
DefEdge: The AI will stay on their line no matter what and tend to knock you away.
double_stuffed_orio: ah
SnowBuddy18: and yet they recognize each other
DefEdge: Many names, but generally it's like Mario Kart, where the AI will stick to their line no matter what.
TXC2: to be fair, it's Facile to program the AI to see each other, seeing the Player is whole other kettle of fish.
Gen2Gengar: Why isq there a compressed air sound every time Ian changes gear
DefEdge: AI tends to completely ignore the player or be really aggressively avoidance, causes problems at times.
DefEdge: Turbo
Izandai: @beckett_brass So you take a kettle
Izandai: And you fill it with fish
SnackPak_: sergeJustRight
double_stuffed_orio: clean lap PogChamp
beckett_brass: @Izandai Why though? That's not how you cook fish.
RandomTrivia: Ian confirmed godliness-adjacent :D
TXC2: beckett_brass I will agree it is an odd idiom
Izandai: @beckett_brass Maybe that's not how *you* cook fish.
beckett_brass: @Izandai Alright, fair point.
Arclight_Dynamo: Nice.
frnknstn: The English have been eating boiled fish for centuries
Arclight_Dynamo: Real answer: When you have salt fish, you boil them to get the salt out.
johnalogue: boiled fish sounds...not great
RandomTrivia: Google-Fu tells me that there use to be these things called fish kettles, long saucepans specifically designed for poaching fish in.
Clockwork_Penguin: The English have done a lot of things to food. it doesn't make any of them right :P
Arclight_Dynamo: Boiled salt herring is delicious.
RandomTrivia: And this is where most of the RandomTrivia comes from
Izandai: Personally I prefer a nice kettle of halberds.
TXC2: johnalogue anything boiled is not great, but it's the best we had for thousands of years so :p
frnknstn: Yeah, a "kettle" used to be just a type of pot or saucepan
PharaohBender27: Ahoy-hoy! PrideWave How goes the driving?
DefEdge: Doing awesome! Now, only if you want though, you can remove the cornering lines, but that's up to you. I leave them on because I end up running lots of tracks.
TXC2: hello PharaohBender27 welcome
RandomTrivia: Hello there PharaohBender27! Driving goes about as well as you can see and would expect
beckett_brass: @PharaohBender27 Hello. Driving has been...ok, I guess?
DefEdge: But mastering a track takes HOURS.
DefEdge: I can tell you totally have a thing for racing games. That's cool to know.
TXC2: DefEdge by "mastering" we mean "good enough"
NathanJay_GA: cleanest lap yet
RandomTrivia: Yeah! Gaining time!
PharaohBender27: katesHype
RandomTrivia: benginHype
DefEdge: Damn, that Mustang was doing Mustang things.
Arclight_Dynamo: Mothers!
DrakoniteStreams: with racing games, it amazes me how well I recognize these places I've never been
RandomTrivia: He's actively driving! Hmmm.... somehow that doesn't work as well as actively gaming...
RandomTrivia: Well held
beckett_brass: @RandomTrivia Perhaps. Maybe we need to add banana peels!
TXC2: I see we're in 2nd gear A LOT this track
RandomTrivia: @beckett_brass By that logic, Ian is owed about 35 blue shells already
DefEdge: Now that your downforce is fixed, be aware the car will act differently, also cold tires.
RandomTrivia: lrrEFF that cone in particular
DrakoniteStreams: that's a low key insane difficult corner
Gen2Gengar: Sometimes Ian sounds like he's from a DJO parody
Gen2Gengar: Sorry
RandomTrivia: *bonk*
PharaohBender27: DJO?
FurthestChunk: You'd think that they'd stick the tires in front of like, a space heater
Gen2Gengar: I am
Arclight_Dynamo: Djo-Djo's Bizarre Adventure.
TXC2: pretty sure sounding like he's from a parody Anime is Ian's goal in life Kappa
DefEdge: There are different rules
SnackPak_: tires need to rest up before the big race
Izandai: Auto racing is a very weird sport.
DefEdge: Very expensive too
TXC2: DefEdge what isn't in auto racing? :p
NathanJay_GA: where are these rules adjudicated, the circuit court?
Izandai: boo
DefEdge: Err... maybe go-karts
Zaghrog: isn't most auto sports also kind of bad for the environment?
Arclight_Dynamo: I kind of want, like, a "Formula Unlimited" race format. There are so many rules about what can be in a car and how fast they can go. I want to see what allowing *everything* gets you. What's the real bleeding edge of automotive technology?
TehAmelie: there's always wreck racing, or whatever it's called
NathanJay_GA: Racing is ryhtm game
NathanJay_GA: *is a
DefEdge: Demolition Derby
DefEdge: STILL super expensive
TXC2: Zaghrog only as far as cars in general aren't good for it
Arclight_Dynamo: @TehAmelie There's a great NFB short film about that called "Hell Runs on Gasoline." Highly recommended. On YT, I think.
RealGamerCow: Ian, you seem like you would be interested in Time-Speed-Distance rallies. Mini Coopers are big in that community.
RandomTrivia: @Arclight_Dynamo I would 100% want to see that. I also realise that it would involve a LOT of injured drivers
johnalogue: @defedge I think they meant Lemons
Zaghrog: TXC2 I would imagine more fossil fuels
DefEdge: Oooh, well there is that too
Arclight_Dynamo: @RandomTrivia That's the problem. It'd be hella dangerous. I like the idea *in theory*.
DrakoniteStreams: demo derby here often forbids you from spending much money
SeiichiSin: Also turning a little to sharp can toss you into a ditch.
Izandai: Auto racing rules are a weird combination of keeping things from being too dangerous for the drivers and trying to make driver skill the most important factor.
TXC2: 21 is that you!
DefEdge: Now is this a practice session or qualifying? I think it's practice because of the hour length.
CaptainSpam: How's race weekend going?
Izandai: Turns out that second goal requires A LOT of regulations because there's a lot of ways to make your car just flat faster than everyone else's if you've got the money for it.
RandomTrivia: Overtake hype? OVERTAKE HYPE benginHype
TXC2: Arclight_Dynamo look up group B rally from the 1980's, it was pretty much unlimited rules rally driving
Arclight_Dynamo: Nice,.
beckett_brass: @CaptainSpam Fairly well. WElcome to driving, with difficulties.
Arclight_Dynamo: @TXC2 ...I may do that. Yikes.
DefEdge: Then Ian shoves him over lol
johnalogue: grassroots racing is more interesting than billion dollar F1 and such...
margieargie: Nice!
Zaghrog: Wow!
RandomTrivia: I guess this is Qualifying, so the overtake doesn't strictly matter as such, but ah well
RandomTrivia: Too bad this one is invalid
RandomTrivia: LUL
RealGamerCow: nice last corner
TXC2: well at least we know we can do a lap like that
mexfire: hi
RealGamerCow: That time was like 4th place time
TXC2: hello mexfire welcome
beckett_brass: @mexfire Hello. WElcome to driving.
TehAmelie: i'm sad we still haven't invented monster truck wrestling
DefEdge: See, he's doing better than me because of several things. One, he's ojn a wheel, I use the pad on the One, and 2 he's in cockpit view, I'm far chase cam myself.

DrakoniteStreams: @TehAmelie thanks, now I'm sad too
RandomTrivia: Oh yeah, THAT shove was fine, but drive to fast in the wrong place and you get penalized...
RealGamerCow: dinger
Arclight_Dynamo: Hm, thinking on it more, I guess what I'd like is for them to *change the course* to make it safe to drive bleeding-edge cars rather than limiting the cars so they are safe on existing tracks.
Arclight_Dynamo: So you get *safe* unlimited.
SnowBuddy18: @TehAmelie are you sure?
TehAmelie: i have an idea for a compromise though. a TV channel that shows monster truck races and wrestling games on a split screen
DefEdge: Even pushing for safe unlimited, someone's going to try to push to win.
TXC2: I mean there was A monster truck wrestle match on WCW, was shite :p
Arclight_Dynamo: True, I suppose, DefEdge
DefEdge: Making it more dangerous. Although Formula E is pretty safe.
DrakoniteStreams: @Arclight_Dynamo that is kind of what NASCAR is, and the result is still pushing cars far enough that need to start limiting them
Zaghrog: these last few laps have been quite good, if not for the invalidations
TXC2: what I'd want is an unlimited rules, but super low budget rules set racing
DefEdge: If you've heard about it, it's why there is always seeming to be penalties, they find ways to cheat as much as they can without getting caught.
RealGamerCow: You were putting up top 10 times there
Arclight_Dynamo: @DrakoniteStreams Good point. I guess what you get if you keep changing courses is a Nuremberg Ring.
RandomTrivia: 60 MPH, you were doing 100 KPH
DefEdge: You'd have to check the rules for this Discipline Ian
DefEdge: Take it EASY, cold tires!
RandomTrivia: *GT-86 will remember this*
DrakoniteStreams: what racing wheel setup are you using?
RealGamerCow: GT-86chan

JadedCynic: 'take that pole' is not 'hit Polish people'
accountmadeforants: Hello yes, I'm Twitch Chat, your new race engineer. Go left.
ZeroPolarity: So kidnapping Polish people then?
MattH1992: Ok, Ian, what we need is for you to go all out, but not go all out, go as fast and clean as you can.
margieargie: @accountmadeforants This isn't NASCAR :p
Zaghrog: tires seem to be warming up a little
beckett_brass: @JadedCynic Of course not. "Take" would imply kidnap--gosh dang it, @ZeroPolarity beat me to it.
TXC2: does this car have a 4th gear? :p
DefEdge: Do your controls feel comfortable? You might want to adjust too, unless you did that already.
RandomTrivia: @TXC2 I think it used to, now it's somewhere on the third corner
DefEdge: FFB is rough on some games.
TXC2: ah there's 4th gear
TehAmelie: the R gear is for Racing, right?
TXC2: TehAmelie it's for really really fast Kappa
Arclight_Dynamo: So... Roadquest 2: Ian Drives the Cannonball Run? Kappa
accountmadeforants: margieargie Yeah, I got out of NASCAR once I found out there's no backseating allowed, on account of the cars not having backseats.
RandomTrivia: "Consider reducing Force Feedback gain" - the tagline to LRRMans
TXC2: Arclight_Dynamo yes, but only if we can get Burt Renolds as the co-pilot Kappa
Arclight_Dynamo: Heck, even an Up-Island Cannonball could be fun.
TehAmelie: ah yes. remember to shift into R when you want to go really really fast
SeiichiSin: What is the Cannonball Run?
Arclight_Dynamo: @TXC2 :D
RealGamerCow: The cross-US record has been SMASHED since Covid started
JadedCynic: Ian flips a card "Start new show. Tell Graham." LUL
ZeroPolarity: @TXC2 Zombie Burt?
dormouss: Beej as Dom Delouise?
RockPusher: A Mini Series or a mini-series?
DefEdge: Yeah, put it in R going forward, you'll get passed by your own transmission.
Arclight_Dynamo: "The Cannonball Run is an unsanctioned speed record, typically accepted to run from New York City's Red Ball Garage to the Portofino Hotel in Los Angeles, a distance of about 2,800 mi (4,500 km).[1] As of August 2020, the record is 25 hours 39 minutes, with a top speed of 175 mph and an average speed of 110 mph, driven by Arne Toman, Doug Tabbutt & Dunadel Daryoush."
TehAmelie: BoJack Horseman must be getting some interesting cannonball runs with the bridge to Hawaii
beckett_brass: Can it involve literal cannons or literal cannonballs?
RandomTrivia: @JadedCynic That got me so good LUL
SeiichiSin: Yay for you getting my name right! Or at the least it sounded like you said it right.
rocketjohn: There are a couple of films about it
SeiichiSin: Also cool. That would be interesting.
rocketjohn: Also good evening everyone
TXC2: no the race was from before the movie
DrakoniteStreams: it's a cross country drive where they totally follow all posted speed limits and still manage to complete it in less time than mathematically possible
DefEdge: Interestingly, the 2020 Cannonball Run set new time records!
beckett_brass: @rocketjohn Hello. Welcome to driving.
DefEdge: Due to nobody on the roads.
62MGcobra: CARS!!!
Boon_33: Cannonball run is an open road sprint from coast to coast, normally done without police permission.
62MGcobra: oh racing line this time
abyssaldm: vroom vroom
rocketjohn: cheers, beckett_brass
DefEdge: I suggested it.
Arclight_Dynamo: @DefEdge Empty roads due to the pandemic, I assume.
DefEdge: Right
TehAmelie: Death Race 2000 is the superior cross-continental racing movie in my opinion
ZeroPolarity: Oh dang, Ian's on the pole
Izandai: I think one of the fundamental reasons auto racing is so weird is that driving like a racer essentially means driving like a fucking maniac.
RandomTrivia: Don't say that out loud!
DefEdge: You've got the pole right now
margieargie: You've got the best lap right now!
x0den: i didn't know it was an actual thing. i always assumed it was just a jojo's thing
Boon_33: much more achievable when a fast car could beat a helicopter. and cameras were less used by LEO's
JadedCynic: O_o Whaaa
Bitter0ne: he's rally driver
DefEdge: Ehh... the game will try to improve.
TXC2: black is white, up is down, cats living with dogs, it's all gone mad!
JadedCynic: wait, is today Reverse Day?
DefEdge: The AI, depnding on your setting, could actually tank pretty bad on the real race. They don't wreck, but they don't run as fast.
Boon_33: All the good racers try to drive well enough to race another day.
Bitter0ne: sand, gravel, tarmac it's all the same
margieargie: As your race engineer is fond of saying at LRRmans, "Let's try and get some good consistent lap times here"
TehAmelie: speaking of driving, everyone says F1 cars have so much downward force they can drive upside down, so why don't they build tracks for that?
DrakoniteStreams: @TehAmelie OSHA ? :P
RockPusher: I'd love for Matt and Graham to do a FRwL special on the 1st Cannonball Run movie since it features Roger Moore playing a character who is impersonating Roger Moore as if Moore *is* Bond
DefEdge: I know you wanted a pure experience, but do you feel the cornering line was a good decision to turn on?
TXC2: TehAmelie 'cause no one has actually proven it's true
CaptainSpam: @TehAmelie Because they want to keep them as F1, not F-Zero. Kappa
TehAmelie: aww
RandomTrivia: @TehAmelie Several reasons. Because no-one is brave/stupid enough to try it, because structurally that's incredibly difficult to build given transition to/from ceiling, and because human biology exists.
margieargie: Yeah, race control, that lap wasn't going anywhere good anyway
Izandai: I assume this chat has a high density of people who could go for a new F-Zero game?
TehAmelie: i could
ZeroPolarity: I'm for it
RealGamerCow: holy crap, I go to get a drink and I miss Ian securiong the pole.
DefEdge: I feel it teaches you the basics of the track faster, because you aren't trying to reinvent the wheel, so to speak.
RandomTrivia: @Izandai This is probably the highest density of people who could anywhere
RealGamerCow: well, early still, but nice
SkylerRingtail: Or a river
RandomTrivia: Don't worry about it Ian, different topic
Stoffern: @TehAmelie if you get in a high-speed accident youre gonna have a bad time if you're also suspened on a ceiling at the time
TehAmelie: peeing in a bottle whilst driving upside down WOULD be challenging
62MGcobra: you know what they say "smooth is fast"
DefEdge: Go to Big Bill Hell's
RealGamerCow: 62MGcobra was just about to say that.
DrakoniteStreams: nice corkscrew!
SnowBuddy18: I dislike the mirror going blurry around corners
SeiichiSin: Time for me to go get ready for work. Good luck Ian, try to keep all four wheels on the ground. Unless they build a ramp into the track, in which case fly baby fly.
accountmadeforants: TehAmelie Apparently it would also require some modifications to the engines. Something about the oil from the pistons dripping up.
TXC2: DefEdge home of challenge pissing
DefEdge: The corkscrew is the hardest part of Laguna Seca, but also the most fun.
margieargie: Yeah, the depth of field in this is... a lot
RandomTrivia: Take care, SeiichiSin!
Boon_33: peeing upsidown separates the racers from the drivers.
TehAmelie: stupid physics
DefEdge: If you can piss straight up and no get wet, you get no down payments!
DefEdge: not*
TXC2: also doesn't when the turns go both ways :p
62MGcobra: what bothered me last week was how much Ian was whipping the wheel around so much.
TehAmelie: now i miss F-Zero X with the literal corkscrew turns
RealGamerCow: It's all about straightening the corners
RandomTrivia: Turns out, cars have more complex factors involved than humans running.
RandomTrivia: Who knew lrrBEEJ
DrakoniteStreams: that's some nice wreckless driving there Mr Ian
DefEdge: The Kerbs tend to be very slippery
Boon_33: Imagine what racing would be like if you could just ram like that IRL.
DefEdge: Then it would be Forza Motorsport online
abyssaldm: One day, Ian. One day

abyssaldm: Gas, Gas, Gass
Izandai: A five-body pileup is a lot more funny than a five-car pileup.
Saunabath: A good advice for racing I heard recently is don't try to catch up loss time. If you try to speed up after a mistake they just start piling up.
kenohki2: I would love to do a track day at Suzuka, it is just down the road a bit, or so, from me

accountmadeforants: I do remember some early Forza tournament where a bunch of real-racecar-drivers joined and watched, and them just being bewildered at the absurd shortcuts players were taking. "Yeah, skating across the grass there slows you down a bit, but it's a net benefit"
Territan: I drive passive-aggressively.
Izandai: I'm certainly offended. Kappa
TehAmelie: !advice
LRRbot: Pay attention to your doom.
margieargie: Nice of the officials to just... let you do that
TehAmelie: err
Izandai: Get wrecked, nerd!
TXC2: Offencelessly, because it's an offence Kappa
SnowBuddy18: but the other driver was in the BMW Ian
JadedCynic: you were worried about the race officials, but it was ME, Dio, all along to ram you off the road!
Territan: No wonder he didn't signal!
Rogue_07: Hoo, Ian, you went from worst to first from last week to this week, nice!
DrakoniteStreams: nice last corner that time
CaptainSpam: Still have that pole position. Nice.
Boon_33: Race official is prolly wearing a monocle and holding a bag with $$$ on it by the end of this track day.
DefEdge: The AI hasn't managed to improve just yet.
RandomTrivia: I like to imagine that no-one else can get a good lap in because of all the chaos going on around Ian
DefEdge: That's true too
Izandai: What exactly is pole position?
accountmadeforants: Assuming it has paddles for switching gears, you could remap those to turn signals and just switch to an automatic KappaHD
DefEdge: First off the start
Boon_33: 1st place
Izandai: Other than a racing game from the 90s that inexplicably got turned into a cartoon?
Invitare: it's where the pole is
RandomTrivia: @Izandai Usually at the top, unless half-mast for respect Kappa
JadedCynic: Joseph Gordon LRRvitt, Agent of Chaos
Izandai: @RandomTrivia lol
GredGredmansson: !sir
LRRbot: Sir? Sir! You and the horse are now bound/friends for life.
CaptainSpam: Everything got turned into a cartoon in the 90s. Everything.
DrakoniteStreams: @Izandai you had fastest qualifying time so you start in the front
Izandai: I see, I see.
TXC2: CaptainSpam RAMBO got turned into a cartoon :p
Boon_33: If you are in 1st any mistake you make can slow down everyone behind you, big advamtage.
GredGredmansson: @CaptainSpam Please, LRR wasn- *remembers Gelatin Crapshot*
DefEdge: We also don't know what difficulty he's set, I'm getting it's average.
RandomTrivia: IAN
DefEdge: guessing*
RandomTrivia: NO
TXC2: yeap adding that to advice
Izandai: @TXC2 tqsLol
margieargie: Please maintain a 2 meter distance from the apex
GredGredmansson: !findquote apex
LRRbot: Could not find any matching quotes.
RandomTrivia: When did this become Magic Boulder talk? :D
Territan: Do Not Taunt Hearty Fun Apex.
CaptainSpam: Do not taunt the apex.
JadedCynic: @GredGredmansson also the mobile airline game videos (can't remember the name - SkyPals?)
Izandai: !findquote moist
LRRbot: Quote #3706: "I kept my moist nugget!" —Graham [2016-12-07]
DefEdge: Do not taunt Happy Fun Apex.
JadedCynic: @Territan <3
Territan: I try, I really do...
GredGredmansson: speaking of crapshots and the 90s
ZeroPolarity: Can you lick the apex to find out where it sits on the lickability scale?
GredGredmansson: I wouldn't mind it being 1992 again, could be interesting now that I'm old enough to properly experience it
JadedCynic: @DefEdge <3 <3 I thought I was the only one to remember that SNL 'commercial' - even Kevin Nealon's forgotten Happy Fun Ball, and he was IN it
Territan: Look at my heart, my heart is amazing / Give it a lick...
DefEdge: Maybe if you want to find out what concrete tastes like as opposed to the asphalt.
DrakoniteStreams: beautiful corkscrew that time!
DefEdge: Oh yeah, I got all sorts of pop culture knowledge that seems useless
TheMerricat: Evening chat! Evening Ian!
TXC2: "it looks nice outside, OH GOD!" is a mood really
RandomTrivia: ^
TXC2: hello TheMerricat welcome
DefEdge: Ok, to tell if it's clean for anyone that doesn't know, on the left where it says potential, if that number is white, he's clean
Boon_33: lrrAWESOME
accountmadeforants: See, what you wanna do is reach a speed where it seems as though the stripes on the side are standing still, that's how you know you've got the perfect line...
RandomTrivia: Nice!
Territan: I find myself ...not wanting to fire up Gran Turismo and checking my times in comparison.
dormouss: Is the sun on this map slowing changing?
TXC2: PSA: do not look at the Sun
RandomTrivia: Welp
GredGredmansson: reminder, don't text and drive
TehAmelie: et tu
Serpens77: was that "watching the chat, being bad" or "watching the chat being bad"? Kappa
VorlonScout: @DefEdge What's the color bar under the rearview? ...that just went away as he went off track.
margieargie: Ian, if you can see this, don't
DrakoniteStreams: ok, you got the corkscrew down. now if you can just manage that straight....
Boon_33: A secound of inattention can cost you a car or more.
RandomTrivia: @Serpens77 A little of column A, a little of column B
accountmadeforants: Given all the other dumb stuff they seem to put in there? Probably
DefEdge: I think it is looking at his time compared to his best
Gen2Gengar: It has Cuphead
DefEdge: green means he's ahead, red is behind
Territan: "Hey, Siri: Tell Twitch that your dad smells like a dumpster."
TheMerricat: Good lord, a DB via Telsa someday when?
RandomTrivia: @Gen2Gengar Oh, is it a Cuphead-holder? :p
Saunabath: That sounds like a horrible idea, and something Elon Musk would do.
VorlonScout: @DefEdge That's what I thought, but it flashes white and green even as the number under it stays positive/red
JadedCynic: @DrakoniteStreams yeah, it's the straight AFTER the corkscrew; settling out after is the trick now
DefEdge: Or maybe, green is accelerate, red is braking
TehAmelie: how much time does it take us to drive three car lengths? that's as much time as Ian can afford to be distracted, i believe
RealGamerCow: VorlonScout it is an indication of how the current lap is compared to the last lap. If it is to the right, it is faster than last lap, to the left he is slower. And if the number is red, he's getting slower, and if it's green, he's getting faster.
GredGredmansson: how did you teleport back onto the road though
GredGredmansson: that was fast
DefEdge: Reset button
DrakoniteStreams: @JadedCynic he's taking the corner after corkscrew too fast, and then looks at chat instead of the road, heh
JadedCynic: that last def
accountmadeforants: Especially considering the game occasionally seems to bokeh out your proper rear-view
DefEdge: He's trying to be open, a very noble thing to do, but reading a racing is hard.
DefEdge: and*
Rogue_07: This stream is designed to show you the peril of looking at your phone while driving
rocketjohn: is the game simulating blurring vision under braking?
DefEdge: It's bluring on speed
TheMerricat: LRR Chat is almost the only chat I'd say this for but Ian needs to have a TTS for things like this. :D
4 raiders from TeamNorseThunder have joined!
DefEdge: Only helmet cam!
TXC2: hello Raiders
TheMerricat: RAID!
JadedCynic: hola raiders! o/
RealGamerCow: Honestly I'd be fine with a permanent slot for a driving show on LRR
GredGredmansson: benginRaid
TeamNorseThunder: Thanks
RandomTrivia: Welcome raiding friends! lrrHEART
TeamNorseThunder: and hey everyone
PharaohBender27: Ahoy-hoy, raiders!
GredGredmansson: what were you guys playing?
TXC2: hello TeamNorseThunder welcome
DrakoniteStreams: I def want a good VR racing game... which is someone ironic to say since I worked on a VR racing game.
Jeezy56: what's the car today?
TehAmelie: i can never remember, is it "Project" Cars or Project "Cars"?
MooCowofDom: Has Ian ever tried using a TrackIR?
TXC2: Jeezy56 same as last week
GredGredmansson: @TehAmelie judging by the game title, it's Project CARS
DefEdge: Damn, that's your last improvement chance.
Territan: For no good reason right now, I'm flashing back to Ridge Racer 4 on the PS1. It had its own controller with a little steering wheel that you could steer with both thumbs,.
TXC2: it's project CARS, as in throw them Kappa
RandomTrivia: Verb or noun.... Hmmm....
rocketjohn: It's Project Cars, as well
Mangledpixel: Projectile Cars
DefEdge: You are still pole, you got it
Zaghrog: well, position already secured
SquareDotCube: I prefer Project The Cars
TheMerricat: Oh, yeah we really need to get Ian a headtracking rig for next LRRMans... :)
CaptainSpam: It still looks like he's got pole, so he's golden there.
accountmadeforants: Astral Car Projection
DefEdge: Well, PCars set out to make the most accurate racing sim.
TehAmelie: torque force projection
ContingentCat: the car are the message
electroswagnetism: see the game projects cars on the screen
ritchards: Do you think this is Driver San Francisco?
RandomTrivia: Somehow THAT was fine?!
RandomTrivia: Awwww
DrakoniteStreams: "Our new project is to make a racing game, and we're bad at naming things"
Boon_33: lrrSACK RALLY mode!
abyssaldm: Ah yes, LRRmans
DefEdge: Mustang doing Mustang things!
CaptainSpam: Yeah, but the lap's still invalided. Darn!
RandomTrivia: Mustang gonna Mustang...
TheMerricat: pit him :P
Territan: Naw, this works—you'd have a very different idea of this game if they called it Project FISH.
TXC2: gonna have a donnybrook?
margieargie: Now the game truly begins
electroswagnetism: what car are we
DefEdge: GT 86
accountmadeforants: I simply Must clang you
RandomTrivia: Oof
TXC2: "oh the Mustang can Marge, the Mustang can"
PharaohBender27: Welp
RandomTrivia: It's American, it's not made for corners
DefEdge: Eh, they'll buff it out when he comes in
ZeroPolarity: Those stangs be stanging respectfully speaking
62MGcobra: lrrIAN jlrrPunch
RandomTrivia: Pole!
Jeezy56: P 1
GredGredmansson: after THAT performance?
margieargie: Hey, not bad when this is your second career race
RandomTrivia: I think we overestimated the competition...
accountmadeforants: Fuck, that team name "GetSpeed Performance"
DefEdge: Now see, he's got warm tires now!
Territan: We can make worse team names than that.
Territan: "Team Fastfast Fastfastfast!"
TXC2: team Fasty McFastFace
RandomTrivia: "A fast fast, and I mean FAST FAST fast fast" LUL
GredGredmansson: Thick McRunFast!
TXC2: RandomTrivia :D
RandomTrivia: Welp, "fast" has ceased to be a word to my eyes...
Arium26: Huh, a night race at Laguna. Cool!
RandomTrivia jumps to the left
TXC2: "the house limit is three do overs."

VorlonScout: I've seen *real* race team names that bad. Seems authentic to me. :)
accountmadeforants: Mulligan, put one car on the bottom of your deck.
NightWingMistHawk: So how do you "win" these races? Do you just need to get the fastest time out of everyone?
DefEdge: 12 minutes to be first
RandomTrivia: @NightWingMistHawk These aren't races, these are qualifying sessions. Lap times determine starting order in the actual race.
TheMerricat: It's a Career game so you can win the race by having the best time, but to win the season you need to have gotten just enough 'points' for placing in each race.
RandomTrivia: Unless I've completely misinterpreted the setup
TXC2: RandomTrivia this is the race now
DefEdge: It said session 3 of 5
RandomTrivia: Oh, ok then.
TXC2: no quarter, but what about nickels? Kappa
accountmadeforants: The best defence is good going fast
electroswagnetism: defence strategy: go fast??????
RandomTrivia: (I don't really know anything about racing outside of a bit of F1 trivia)
TheMerricat: Haven't a cent to spare
Territan: "Get thee behind me, butt-munch!"
RealGamerCow: Ian's being real squirrelly on some of those exits
TheMerricat: Everything I've learned about racing is from LRRMans streams :D
ehsteveG: NotLikeThis
DiscordianTokkan: That same danged corner!
TheMerricat: what's today's POG? PogChamp
TheMerricat: ah, I thought that was yesterdays?
TXC2: TheMerricat maybe the 24 hours isn't up yet?
DefEdge: Looks like average AI, they are scared of the corners
GredGredmansson: @TheMerricat are you still seeing Woolie
TXC2: lrrHAM ?
ContingentCat: lrrHAM
rendelnep: lrrHAM
Ace__of__Hearts: try throwing a red shell
RandomTrivia: lrrHAM
GredGredmansson: I see a different one from yesterday
accountmadeforants: lrrHAM_SG
VorlonScout: My cat's name is Ham. He's definitely not fast.
GredGredmansson: PogChamp
TheMerricat: I have no clue who twitch people are @GredGredmansson it looks like john travolta from pulp fiction in white framed sunglasses
DrakoniteStreams: @RealGamerCow Leguna has several corners you have to go slower for longer than feels right, which makes it quite tough
GredGredmansson: the one I just posted PogChamp

GredGredmansson: is todays
GredGredmansson: doesn't have shades
TheMerricat: weird, I see yours is different.
GredGredmansson: i was on a different stream where someone said that happened
RockPusher: Ian attempting to evade the ban ham
DefEdge: Well, if you can post up the fastest lap of the race out of everyone, you get extra series points.
GredGredmansson: that they still had the old one for some reason
RealGamerCow: DrakoniteStreams definitely. That long corner after the corkscrew always gets me in games.
TheMerricat: PogChamp
TXC2: TheMerricat that maybe a cache issue then
GredGredmansson: I see the new one from you
GredGredmansson: maybe you don't though
TheMerricat: so I see JT when I do it but someone else when you do it. weird, I was thinking it was a cache issue but....
DefEdge: Damn, I still haven't eaten lunch, but Ian's got me paying attention to this!
RandomTrivia: Smooth
NightWingMistHawk: Nicely done
TheMerricat: ah refreshing 'fixed it'. I must not have closed this tab since yesterday
margieargie: Mmmm, some nice racing there
Jeezy56: and not clown fundamentals
TheMerricat: Just woke up @DefEdge and was going to make taco meat so I could have tacos for 'breakfast' but decided to wait till Ian's commercial break to start.
electroswagnetism: just pour a cup of water, put it on the desk next to you, and try not to spill any
Gen2Gengar: Do professional racecar drivers use simulation as part of their training?
DefEdge: I got leftover chicken and noodles from last night
TXC2: Gen2Gengar yeap
DefEdge: Just got to warm them up
accountmadeforants: They helped you out there :p
TheMerricat: @Gen2Gengar so even did it as 'for real' racing this year instead of real life racing. though it didn't turn out quite that well since some of them BM'ed their way through.
Orgmastron: Ooooh we're racing on Laguna Seca. This is a bushole track.
DefEdge: I like to think I'm ok at racing, but that's Forza...
DefEdge: This is a different animal
Stoffern: Maybe you can pick up your nerve again on the next lap
TheMerricat: 22 laps Ian, you've got plenty of time to make up any 'little' mistakes, just concentrate on keeping it clean and simple.
Jeezy56: 2 to go!
DefEdge: Nah, 2 minutes left, timed race. 22 people on track
TheMerricat: oh 22 is the number of racers, I'm dense. :P
RandomTrivia: Oof
dormouss: Aw, beans.
DrakoniteStreams: oof lrrAWW
margieargie: Well, that was a good -most- of that race!
Wolfstrike_NL: So close to a finish in the top10
rocketjohn: Ah well, it's a long season
Stoffern: Is Ian's nemesis his own backwheels?
VorlonScout: katesBeans
DefEdge: Well... I mean I know you don't want to restart, but this is stressful
RealGamerCow: still better than last race, it's an improvement!
accountmadeforants: At the very least you've utterly demoralised the drivers still behind you.
Gen2Gengar: That feels like getting blueshelled to 5th place right before the finish line of the 3rd lap
margieargie: Hey, you might get another position or two!
TXC2: casual lets gain 15 places :P
ritchards: Cori it up!
TXC2: ritchards so find the sub ocean? :p
PharaohBender27: ^
PharaohBender27: So long, sucker!
VorlonScout: Eight wheels corner better than four!
DefEdge: Yep, PCars weakness for difficulty is the AI is weak in the corners.
TXC2: !break
LRRbot: Remember chat, break time for the streamer, means break time for YOU, so get up, stretch, walk about a bit, and maybe get a drink or go to the toilet. Don't forget to wash your hands!
TXC2: Right chat I'm off
TXC2: Goodnight everybody, and thanks for streaming Ian
TheMerricat: So chat, a couple of years back there was an article in Ars Technical I think where folk were able to create a cap that you could wear that used magnets and electrical simulation to mess with your inner ear and control your sense of balance, wouldn't it be wild for someone to commercialize that and use it to create a feedback device for games like this where could simulate the centrifical g force from taking turns?
rocketjohn: sleep well TXC2, good night
TheMerricat: night @TXC2 !!
RandomTrivia: Goodnight TXC2!
PharaohBender27: Good night, @TXC2 !
rocketjohn: TheMerricat that sounds vomitising.
PharaohBender27: ^
manwiththegoldencard converted from a Prime sub to a Tier 1 sub!
rocketjohn: kate_saying_vomit.gif
TehAmelie: only for people who don't get motion sick, sure
TehAmelie raises hand
SnowBuddy18: that would be interesting, but probably vomit inducing
SquareDotCube: So... Has Ian messed with the tension setting his steering wheel yet?
Boon_33: Anyone trying to capitalize on that tech would have so much liability for people falling over that they would be hailed as horsemen of the apocalypses
TheMerricat: @TehAmelie the thing about motion sickness is your eyes are saying you are moving and your body is saying "nah brah, we are sitting still". This should actually reduce that.
emonotony: Apocalypses, plural?
SnowBuddy18: apocalypi
emonotony: TheMerricat I get motion sickness where my body says I'm moving, and my eyes say I'm still.
emonotony: (Solution is to close your eyes.)
Boon_33: what you thought 1 apocolype would be enough?
emonotony: Well technically it just means "unveiling" so there could be, say, seven apocalypses sure
GredGredmansson: @emonotony is that why I can't read in the car?
GredGredmansson: but I've done VR once and have also suffered from disorientation afterwards
SnowBuddy18: is an apocalypse just an unboxing video?
emonotony: GredGredmansson Sure is!
emonotony: SnowBuddy18 ... technically?
emonotony: I dunno the famous one does sound a bit excessive as far as the CG goes
margieargie: Regularly yes
emonotony: It helps navigating via mirrors.
accountmadeforants: Completely unrelated: I'm holding my Xbox controller after a solid few months of my only controller experiences being AC on the Switch and a Genesis-style gamepad for SFV, and it feels utterly alien.
Duven60: strangely often
DefEdge: 15
DefEdge: oh
RandomTrivia: Huh.
DefEdge: i saw ian at 15...
Snowcookies: Yay finishing
RealGamerCow: right..right.
DrakoniteStreams: 30s is insane
ypsilonkappa: hello Ian!
DefEdge: IVAN
DefEdge: damn, can't read
rocketjohn: Ian, ian, ian. It's only 'We' if the race is won. Otherwise it's just you ;-)
TehAmelie: oh no, the car consumed Ian's hands
ContingentCat: you can use the royal we if you want
rocketjohn: are there points for fastest lap?
azureHaights: @rocketjohn "Otherwise it's just" and my mind went to something like "sparkling Horner"
accountmadeforants: No, live by the sword die by the sword. "We" win, or "we" lose. Twitch chat is most responsible for that penalty by volume.
emonotony: azureHaights Yeah but where does the Ianness come from?
RandomTrivia: A whole point? Huzzah!
emonotony: Through a skybridge I assume
SnowBuddy18: NVRR
rocketjohn: azureHaights Horner is naturally efferfescent in my experience
RealGamerCow: who else is on our team?
DrakoniteStreams: you got some a point
TehAmelie: chat is "like" a part of the racing team
TehAmelie: similar to a map reader, but worse
rocketjohn: You have mail. Sponsors?
DefEdge: Oh, the AI is fast here, few corners for them to be scared off
DefEdge: of*
emonotony: Chat's the map explainer
margieargie: Ah, upstate New York, good place to get some steamed hams!
SnowBuddy18: ooh, Watkins Glen, hitting all of the good tracks
ArdCollider: I went to go play Pokemon Go in Long Beach once not realizing that the street circuit was in use that day
Snowcookies: wipers!
Nuurgle: I used to live like 15 minutes from this track
DefEdge: The rain tires tend to heat up faster.
VorlonScout: I missed the start due to chores - what controller is being used?
Snowcookies: good for bumping cars
DefEdge: He's got a wheel, no idea which one
SnowBuddy18: I'm only like 4 hours away
DefEdge: Neat! I was looking into the Logitech series with the H shifter myself at one time
emonotony: I'm 42 minutes away by frictionless tunnel
DrakoniteStreams: did you mod the pedals for top mounting?
theblakdeth: does the track develop in the wet in PC2?
Gen2Gengar: For wheels, it's the Steelcase Gesture lrrBEEJ
Territan: Phrasing!
Jeezy56: I wonder if the setup reverts to default or if it's what you were running last
DefEdge: Yeah, PCars 2 does have track drying and wet developing
DefEdge: If it's a hard enough rain, you get puddles
DefEdge: Even Forza drops it a tad, because here you can actually have rain where you generally wouldn't at all in Forza
DefEdge: All tracks can have rain
DefEdge: And snow too I think
emonotony: What about sleet?
emonotony: A hailstorm?
JadedCynic: Snow on Laguna - wow
DefEdge: Well, oddly enough, it could snow at Laguna being in a desert. Deserts get really hot at the daytime, really cold at night. But it rarely rains.
Snowcookies: oof
VorlonScout: Hello, Armco.
margieargie: Engine stop, ACA out of detent...
emonotony: Snow melting and realistic driving conditions for that is something I
emonotony: I've yet to see
DefEdge: Takes a LOT of time and money to develop. Forza did dry tracks for years because of the tire physics
Snowcookies: Imagine black ice on a racing track
DefEdge: 6 was the first to do rain and they messed it up a bit, There's a danged ocean on Sebring
Gen2Gengar: I'd assume the race track would be closed
emonotony: Imagine a downburst
TehAmelie: on the other hand, imagine if the track was heated to make the tires the perfect temperature
ypsilonkappa: I'm rusty on north american tracks, is this the glen? short perhaps?
DefEdge: In 7 they toned down the puddles a LOT
RatekStormcrow: We did it perfect once so we never have to worry about it again, right ?
DefEdge: Yep, Watkins Glen
ypsilonkappa: thanks!
Jeezy56: ypsilonkappa yeah the short version
AHayes31: @ypsilonkappa Yeah its Watkins Glen, The Cup layout
Snowcookies: RatekStormcrow: retire champion of that turn
emonotony: TehAmelie Heated racing track sounds like a Decadent Man bit

Snowcookies: Welsome to Ian racing on a rainy day
ypsilonkappa: thanks everyone! I'm more used to eu tracks, and the ones in gran turismo, lol
theneatestburrito: lrrHEART lrrHEART lrrHEART
theblakdeth: didnt realize these were AI
AshBurnem: lrrHEART
emonotony: TehAmelie Well if the track was made of solid gold you could get very consistent driving conditions
Saulens181: Ian, quick Yakuza question - which has the better management minigames, 0 or Kiwami 2?
DefEdge: The thing that makes the AI strong or weak in PCars is how fast they take corners.
TehAmelie: ooh
Mangledpixel: ah yes, Granular Turducken
DefEdge: They get a straight, they go flat out
DrakoniteStreams: the earlier GT games were really good. the later ones seems like they lost the plot
Jeezy56: I played GT 3 and 4 to death, really good
TheMerricat: GT games have plot? or is that the joke? I thought they were just pure racing....
DefEdge: The Glen here is lacking corners, and rain is even worse, they don't acknowledge the rain much, if at all. In fact, they had to patch the game because they drove like there wasn't ANY rain, and you had to deal with rain.
emonotony: "plot" is used as "guiding principle" here
ypsilonkappa: sport is fine for multiplayer. the rest has mainly single player "campaign" and issues... ai is trash on all of them

Raiz0k: I think that was just the "someone lost the plot" expression , i.e. "someone lost a strong sense of what they were doing".
Territan: Suddenly wondering: Has Beej ever played this? This seems like it'd be his bag.
willowbriar: Is this the game that Ian did LRRmans in ?
DrakoniteStreams: @TheMerricat sorry, "lost the plot" is slang for someone that kinda loses it and doesn't know what is going on anymore. i.e. polyphony digital went weird with GT and didn't understand how to make a game people actually wanted to play anymore
Saulens181: i think so?
DefEdge: But yes Ian, you are doing better than me, because of cockpit and wheel! You're doing awesome!
Jeezy56: not the most recent LRRMans, but yes
DefEdge: This game is HARD
emonotony: Raiz0k Technically, "where they're going", because you "plot" a marked route... pretty sure
Saulens181: ah, yeah, the latest was Asseto Corza?
TheMerricat: Thanks @DrakoniteStreams I'm afraid the only racing games I play are the ones that let you take out the opposition with weapons so these realistic ones are a whole new territory for me :P
Territan: Aw, and here I thought he was going to turn this into a drift race.
emonotony: Racing is very easy or my name isn't Teuvo.
PMAvers: If he wanted a easy game for babies, he'd call James up and play some Minecraft.
ypsilonkappa: Assetto Corsa... my compatriots... not a lot of game devs here in italy
DefEdge: See, I could play Asseto Corsa but I have a controller, heard horror stories about it.
RealGamerCow: How is this game at modeling drafting?
Jeezy56: and yet I feel like you've been more consistent on this wet track than the last ones
DefEdge: It's pretty good actually.

ypsilonkappa: it needs the time to figure out the format, makes sense
Raiz0k: @emonotony : I have no idea of what the etymology is, so you may be right. But it's used in non-navigational contexts mostly I believe. And TIL that it's chiefly a British expression, explains why some native speaker viewers weren't familiar with it.
RealGamerCow: that's why this chicane is in place, so you don't die on this upcoming big turn
Gen2Gengar: The non-MK racing game I've played the most is a in browser Flash game that looked *exactly* like Gran Turismo 2
rocketjohn: hey!
Jeezy56: wow rude
Territan: And Nurburgring.
ypsilonkappa: @jeezy56 10/10 would laugh again
Boon_33: what track is this?
ContingentCat: lrrWOW
emonotony: Raiz0k I'm not 100% confident on the etymology here either, that's why the "pretty sure"
DefEdge: But yeah, Ian, again, doing great! I am a controller boi with far chase cam
Snowcookies: "Not all tracks are bad, just the ones in England" - Ian Horner
rocketjohn: Stares in snetterton.
margieargie: @Gen2Gengar ...I thought that was "Mortal Kombat" at first, and was -very- confused :p
Jeezy56: Brands Hatch tho
willowbriar: As a person who doesn't follow driving as a sport, what type of race is this, is it endurance?
DefEdge: Sorta
DefEdge: He's doing a practice session, and it's timed
DrakoniteStreams: @willowbriar currently doing practice laps
DefEdge: The real race is timed at 12 minutes
emonotony: Distant friends, but friends
emonotony: It's social distancing times afterall
DefEdge: The bus stop is tough
ypsilonkappa: @defedge controller aswell here, but i need my cockpit view to be on my a game. wheel is a nice add for the future. but i need the money for other shit... XD
Boon_33: That Chicane is a beast, weird that it is makes the track safer as it reminds you how close to losing it you are.
DefEdge: I can DO cockpit, but I'm much slower
willowbriar: Is all the power going only to the front tires?
Jeezy56: rears
Territan: Learning the track on a half-broken car may be just the edge you need.
ypsilonkappa: that's the opposite for me XD
DefEdge: I don't really have the space to use a wheel, and it's a learning experience
emonotony: Territan Eh he should practice blindfolded instead
Duven60: “how to limp home” training seems like it would be useful
DefEdge: Wow, you also got pit failures on too
Raiz0k: @emonotony : yeah, I wasn't able to find any definite etymology, but it's more likely it refers to the "plot" of some medium (novel, movie). But that doesn't mean your explanation is not plausible.
Gadora: Just think how well you'll do when you take the training weights off the gas and brake pedals!
TehAmelie: if you can dodge a broken car, you can dodge a mint condition one. . .no wait
Mangledpixel: could move the PIF bug to the left a bit, so it's not over the speedo
emonotony: Raiz0k Mostly going "it's probably the navigation term" because you're going to find losing track of a play you've rehearsed rather hard, unless you're improvising. Losing your plotted route on a map in the pre-smartphone era, however?
RandomTrivia: lrrHERE
SnowBuddy18: that car was in you
Raiz0k: Enough failed dodges and all cars are the same (in their state of brokenness).
willowbriar: Oh so that 48 was damage to the front wheels got it
DefEdge: Nah, the front end.
Raiz0k: @emonotony : yeah, but, counterpoint: so is theatre ;).
TheMerricat: what's the box behind you?
DefEdge: Map I think
emonotony: Raiz0k ... writers would be associated with theatre so both guesses kinda work.
DefEdge: No wait
TehAmelie: why don't real cars have modular dashboards?
Raiz0k: yup.
emonotony: TehAmelie They do, just use a hot air gun and glue.
TehAmelie: eeh, too much work
VorlonScout: Might want to shift relative times left of the sub bar
willowbriar: How much of these read out would a drive need to deal with, I mean I know some people are now using smart glasses etc
Raiz0k: And epoxy, if you want to be nasty.
VorlonScout: Looks good!
emonotony: Raiz0k bathroom silicone, sawdust and spray paint. If you're going to get nasty, get nasty.
RealGamerCow: Ian, have you thought about getting a chat-reading co-pilot for this stream?
Jeezy56: nice save
emonotony: RealGamerCow "go left", all the time? Requires the right track I guess.
rocketjohn: A race engineer, essentially
ypsilonkappa: i mean we could be chat pace notes readers... do you trust us?
quillilian: "Go left, go fast" Helpful chat voice
margieargie: !advice
LRRbot: Channel your inner buttsoft.
ypsilonkappa: LUL
TheMerricat: TTS?
TehAmelie: you know you're going too fast when your head gets up your own butt
TehAmelie: actually wasn't that the danger with DBZ's Kaioken technique?
DefEdge: See what I mean though? The BMW was very fast there, yet earlier he blasted around him in the corners.
PharaohBender27: Ah, poor Yorri
Magicpokey: Greetings, Ian! You are looking Dapper today!
Raiz0k: @emonotony : now you got me wondering about how prevalent in car modding is the relatively recent improvised filler material sensation - dry noodles.
Territan: And now I'm wondering: Are there any good rally driving games? Spaces so open and big that you need a navigator?
willowbriar: Is it possible to make Sebine in the game and do a virtual Road Quest Woodcock race
emonotony: Raiz0k It's not, we've got sawdust and polyvinyl glue
Raiz0k: Whew.
DefEdge: Depends on how tough you want. Dirt is good for somewhat casual, Dirt Rally is harder
Magicpokey: How are you doing today, good sir?
SnowBuddy18: @Raiz0k don't forget duct tape
Raiz0k: I never do!
emonotony: Raiz0k I have access to four garages, but I'm not allowed to drive
DefEdge: Also, you could try Dakar Rally, but those are hardcore
Raiz0k: And yeah, getting a race with Saabine would be great. IIRC there are some race categories where Saabs are the standard cars, right?
emonotony: And metalworking gear enough I don't need stupid filler tricks
TehAmelie: i always thought Speed Racer's Casa Cristo would be well suited for a videogame. well, all the tracks in the movie
emonotony: Tho polyvinyl + sawdust also works for cosplay
Raiz0k: Huh, you're right.
DefEdge: He's going Ham!
DefEdge: You can't trust the AI, they tend to ignore the rain.
emonotony: You can't trust the AI, they will try to kill you, sooner or later.
ypsilonkappa: if the rona permits, I'm planning to go to le mans this year, and catch maybe some llrmans there too
DefEdge: Kerbs are the worst in the rain
TheMerricat: Imagine being at LeMans and being glued to your phone watching LRRMans :D
TehAmelie: rain is only for PCs eh
DefEdge: Generally slippery concrete
ypsilonkappa: i can multitask
DefEdge: Yep, the game even had to be patched because they were running dry times in the rain.
Jeezy56: I think kerbs are usually painted with gritted paint so they're not too slippery
Jeezy56: but still not great in the wet
DefEdge: Ian, do you feel that the corner lines are helping you or is it too much of a crutch?
TehAmelie: when i hear kerbs i only picture the creatures in Kerbal Space Program
DefEdge: Yeah, some call them Rumble Strips
Raiz0k: Heh, so I wasn't the only one.
TehAmelie: much as they'd enjoy being driven over
Raiz0k: Or blown up, or RUDed...
PharaohBender27: Welp
DefEdge: Slippery Kerb...
willowbriar: what happened there, did the tire stick?
ypsilonkappa: the problem with calling them rumble strips, is that not every kerb has the rumble Pak installed
rocketjohn: You'll have to borrow James_LRR's bell from his punch a chunk
Raiz0k: "Backend Adventures" sounds like a programming horror story podcast.
CAKHost: You can't handle my backend!
ghyllnox: Uruuuu strips
rocketjohn: He has a soft bell.
ContingentCat: it's an in game bell
Jeezy56: a Minecraft bell, it says "Back to the pit!"
RockPusher: jlrrPit
rocketjohn: which I feel like is a phrase i should take again
LordZarano: jlrrPit
TehAmelie: why does kerb and curb have to be two different words, English? this is like offal and awful all over
rocketjohn: as a brit
willowbriar: Would moving the weight to the center of the car counter the back end issue?
fastlane250: TIL both 'curb' and 'kerb' are correct spellings of the same thing
ypsilonkappa: by my assumption, a kerb is a n64 controller...
DefEdge: InB4 qualifying is dry
rocketjohn: he overloaded the sample with one from darkest dungeon that says "BACK TO THE PIT"
DefEdge: RX-7 tends to be famous for 50%
Boon_33: you could throw in a couple of thumbs with that bell
DrakoniteStreams: another benefit of mid-engine cars is there is no room for passengers ;)
DefEdge: Mazda does good at 50% F/R
SnowBuddy18: @DrakoniteStreams only room for passenger
DefEdge: You also have to keep in mind, Tires have a limit to how much traction it can provide. When it's hitting 100% of it's use, and exceeds it, that's when you lose traction.
Boon_33: and traction falls off a cliff once you get that first tiny bit of slip.
DefEdge: By hitting the brakes a bit, you have weight distribution being shifted to the front, forcing the car to turn a bit better.
Boon_33: by the time you realize you've started to slide you're well past the recovery threshold.
DefEdge: You want the tires to be right on the edge of control.
Jeezy56: and then that rubber line gets wet and it's ruined :D
willowbriar: Case of prevention instead of reaction
ypsilonkappa: according to the Toyota presser, weight balance is 53:47... pretty good for a FR car
TehAmelie: ten years from now they'll have reinvented Spin Tires terrain deformation physics for race tracks
DefEdge: Also, doing time trials on an empty track is very different compared to a track with other cars, your line change.
TheElrad: I think I have an emote for when Ian feels confident sergeHubris sergeHubris
ehsteveG: I swear I've seen a gif of an identical near-miss LUL
Boon_33: driving on ice is good practice for racing at relatively high speed.
DefEdge: The weight balance can change when you use different materials too, like hoods are made of steel, when you use Carbon Fiber it's lighter.
JadedCynic: wow
Sarah_Serinde: lrrWOW ysbrydPunjail
DefEdge: Which is why fakers paint their hoods black, they really want to show off a lighter hood.
TheElrad: that was an egregious pun
ypsilonkappa: @defedge that was the stock wb. it can only improve
DefEdge: Right
DefEdge: These are race cars, lighter materials and all.
TheElrad: have you tried what happens if you drive on slicks during the rain?
DefEdge: No no no no, no slicks in rain.
TheElrad: aquaplaning?
Serpens77: that sounds like a Bad Idea(tm)
Boon_33: hydroplane for hope!
DefEdge: Yep, it's why rain tires are grooved, it pushes the water away
RandomTrivia: Yeah, they do that! Good demonstration!
RockPusher: A Flat Plane of WAAAAHHHHH!!!!!
TheElrad: Ian channeling his inner Waluigi there
Opie74: lrrmons but not neat
ypsilonkappa: well, roll cage adds weight back in... also gt40 regulations aren't so wild with what you can do...
LRRTwitter: @loadingreadyrun> It’s not very often you get stream highlights spanning the course of two years, or in this case two entire decades. What a time to be alive. Enjoy! | ||
DefEdge: The difference between PCars and other racing games where you can mod your car is that PCars use all the same cars with no hope to upgrade or downgrade.
DefEdge: BUT you can tune every aspect
DrakoniteStreams: the tread on normal tires is for dealing with rain/water/snow, and actually reduces traction in dry conditions. "slicks" are tires with no treads, and thus have much higher traction when dry, but cannot move water out of the way so lose all traction and become very "slick" in any amount of rain
DefEdge: Right, but you don't actually buy the upgrades.
DefEdge: Like Fora, you can buy a race transmission to tune it, ot get a better set of brakes
DefEdge: Forza*
RandomTrivia: I need to sleep so I'm functional for DnD in the morning, have a good one everyone! lrrHEART
ypsilonkappa: lol i printed a 50 page "tuning bible" in my gt40 years. i don't remember anything now XD
DefEdge: Cars are like if you bought them at the dealership, then you add parts.
ypsilonkappa: *GT4
DefEdge: These cars are mostly race spec with some road models, but they are fully tunable
Opie74: what track is this?
DefEdge: Me though? I couldn't tuna fish
Opie74: ah Yori
DefEdge: Head back to the pit with the teleport, you lost your front end
Jeezy56: Opie74 Watkins Glen (short version)
Opie74: cool thank you Jeezy
DefEdge: Ah, I saw the front end on the track
ehsteveG: with 13 mins to go is it *realllllly* worth it to fix th car now? Kappa
DrakoniteStreams: it's not damage, it's speed holes
DefEdge: Weight reduction bro!
madski: Is this training or qualification?
ypsilonkappa: well it's time to say goodbye, i have work tomorrow... and it's 1 am here. have fun everyone!
ContingentCat: oh right "the race's engineer" I heard the racist engineer I didn't think there was that much character built into them
SandwichKed: grass bad, pavement good
CranstonSnord: racist, or race-ist?
RatekStormcrow: Is a sex thing..
ContingentCat: ah ok then
badpandabear: He actually wants DVDs of the 1980s cartoon
JadedCynic: No Ian - he keeps telling us to 'take the pole' - I don't know which Polish person he wants us to kidnap...
SandwichKed: Hey, just six days to the first 24 hour race of the year.
ehsteveG: Pole-Position is a Namco classic arcade game, usually included with the collections otherwise not too noteworthy
Opie74: deep cut
TheMandrew: can we just buy a bottle of Chopin vodka?
TheElrad: actually, this race is just a cover for Ian's real job as a pole delivery driver
DefEdge: Well, good luck. I have to pick up someone from work and get dinner. Have fun!
Jeezy56: SandwichKed hell yeah, hopefully they'll get more than 7 hours in this year! :D
TheMandrew: they're both pretty good
SandwichKed: Pole Position was a big deal back in the day, with the sorta-3d graphics and the sit-in cabinet
DefEdge: Oh yeah, I love watching Checkpoint!
Stoffern: chopin game
DefEdge: Thanks for the entertainment!
ContingentCat: what? I thought being made from potatoes was a defining requirement of vodka, what else are they made from?
SandwichKed: Yeah, desert tracks are not built for flood control.
migelino164: Ian, this series has made me want to start playing more "serious/simulation" style racing games, but I don't have a wheel setup. How necessary is it and what's a good budget option?
myytgryndyr: some vodkas are made from grain
myytgryndyr: which they were all made of before potatoes were introduced to europe
DefEdge: Wheels have a high learning curve.
SandwichKed: It's fun to race with a normal gamepad controller. People laugh at you, but it works well enough.
heronblademaster: myytgryndyr = meat grinder? :D
ContingentCat: ah, cool. I don't really drink so there's a gap in my knowledge
myytgryndyr: heronblademaster yup
PiPPUMAX: Your good vibes are really ruining my immersion! :D
margieargie: Would you have preferred they were corporeal when you intersected with them?
fastlane250: no unauthorized ingress into the vehicle please
Stoffern: well now youve named him
RockPusher: *Casper the race engineer walks away dejectedly*
TehAmelie: the gasoline may enter through the car food hole but that's it
ContingentCat: ah that's why they don't mind stepping out to tow your car, they're ghosts
SandwichKed: I had lots of fun with GT 1-4, and the Forza games. ...Forza Horizon is a little too open-world for me.
Xavorin: "I will not stand for incorporeal race staff" is an interesting line to join in to hear.
CAKHost: Same @Xavorin
SandwichKed: going to have to think about that one
Xavorin: Also, "Joseph Gorden LRRvitt" is just the brand of pun I've needed today. It's been a day.
TehAmelie: Cinnamon Roll Cage is the name of my racing game project
margieargie: Sounds spicy
CaptainSpam: Best lap!
korvys: Just got here. I'm glad to see Ian branching out into... boat racing?
SnowBuddy18: maybe the moistness will end for qualifying and the race
margieargie: Not last!
TheElrad: Dear Ian, get good, sincerely the race track
SandwichKed: do you have the right tires on?
rocketjohn: and you got some heat into the the front left
TheElrad: so you have water-skis on, right?
TehAmelie: my friend, i tell you this with all the wisdom of the universe and all my heart: take it sleazy in the corners
Xavorin: Am I the only one who wishes I could get this kind of rain rl? I would love a rainy Saturday evening here in Vegas.
SandwichKed: and the outboard motor
rocketjohn: Xavorin I live in england, so i can't relate i'm afraid.
rocketjohn: this type of weather is frequent
CaptainSpam: Is that a full tank of gas for qualifying?
SnowBuddy18: if it rained like that here it would all flash freeze and that would be.... uhh, bad
breadpit64: at this point i'm just happy about any minute of sunlight, it's rain at night for me atm
Xavorin: Well send some this way, would ya? Quit hogging it all. barrScrem
XprotoformX: are you wearing a life preserver? seems this much water, it might be recommended
rocketjohn: I mean, y'all live in a desert...
rocketjohn: have you tried not doing that? :-P
rocketjohn: oh, well held, Ian
TehAmelie: if you drive fast enough in the rain, you'll always gather enough water to drown
Xavorin: We set a new record for dry days in Vegas last year. 240 consecutive days of no measurable rainfall.
SnowBuddy18: jeez
PharaohBender27: @Xavorin katesCry
breadpit64: i mean the windows are up, so he's playing "drown while driving" on hard mode rn
margieargie: If you want to drown while driving just go to Monaco and lose it into the harbor
markaci: Zoom zoom!
breadpit64: margieargie aah, the speedrun
XprotoformX: i'm sure this has been asked before, so apologies for probably making you repeat, but what wheel are you using?

XprotoformX: i've heard good things about the Thrustmasters
korvys: !thrustmaster
korvys: Aw, they turned that off
CaptainSpam: !wheel
CaptainSpam: Maybe it's mod-only?
rocketjohn: Oh, twitch has stopped showing me new chat things.
rocketjohn: thank you twitch
Nuurgle: I didn't know it was possible to turn off the Thrustmaster
breadpit64: damnit, he lost track of.. well... the track
SnowBuddy18: remember to consult your wheel before banging it either, and please clean it
korvys: They tend to clean up commands when they're not in use - probably removed after LRRMans

rocketjohn: "It might be me, but I think it's getting wetter"
Nuurgle: director can't see you in the rain
breadpit64: can't hear the rain over his relaxing lofi beats to direct races to
fastlane250: your crew just distracted him for a little bit
Stoffern: I hear he's doing a great job
TheElrad: did you turn off DQs?
SandwichKed: is Lemans going to have interesting classes this year, or do we still have a year before the new regs come in?
CaptainSpam: That's the commissioner, not the engineer.
margieargie: At this point the director is probably just thinking "fine, we'll let LRRvitt do whatever he wants"
SnowBuddy18: @rocketjohn "I love it this wet"
SnowBuddy18: @rocketjohn depending on the type of racing "let's use the studded rubber today"
breadpit64: i mean cars going by do sound similar, so who's gonna tall what's a car or a significantly fast cat?

TehAmelie: there's bones for an amazing parody song here if you consider a character who thinks that having a bad day on the race track is a tragedy on the level of being trapped in generational poverty
CaptainSpam: Mmm, a nice egg melt.
Stoffern: Why is the pitcrew advertising eggmelt to you?
margieargie: John Egmelt
silenceaux: Impossibleg
ContingentCat: Not for a while no you shouldn't
breadpit64: can you mod in the sanic soundtrack as a motor noise tho?
rocketjohn: I went there once. Didn't care for it. Or at least the city of NY.
floki4242: why
PMAvers: Tonight?
XprotoformX: Simple 7 clean, that’s the way it should be
CaptainSpam: Is this all because the night belongs to lovers?
fastlane250: burn brighter than a scion. on fire.

rocketjohn: thanks for being here and sharing your insights DefEdge
DefEdge: Np, he has the idea down, but PCars does take some learning compared to more arcade style
DefEdge: It was kinda jumping into the deep end

DefEdge: Did he get rain in the real Watkins Glen race?
rocketjohn: yup, worse if anything
DefEdge: Yeah, I think it's predetermined in the career mode
